I was very pleased with my first visit so I decided to come again. Ironically we were seated at the same table as last time, so we felt very at home. We stuck to just sushi (cooked), starting with the golden island maki which had shrimp tempura and cucumber inside, while topped with spicy crab, mango slices, and mango sauce. I was expecting this roll to be sweet because of all the mango components and it was indeed on the sweeter end. I found that it was mostly sweet, so it sort of took away from the other flavors. However, it was still good and everything tasted fresh. The second roll was the dynamite maki which had snow crab, mango, and avocado inside, but topped with torched salmon and scallop, eel sauce, mayo and sweet chili sauce. Since it had a chili pepper next to the name on the menu and because of the name, I was expecting an explosion of spicy, but it was not spicy at all. I found that there was too much stuff on top, so I ended up eating the top part first, then the actual roll. Overall though, between customer service and quality, I was still happy. read more

Clean facility ( we were there first people in for lunch and the floors were still wet from a cleaning. More modern than Shogun. Same tropical options for hibachi and sushi. Ok I love Sakura and I tell anyone that I'm not ordering Asian or hibachi unless it's Sakura because it's top notch. We go all the time. Always good service and kind people and very fast delivery. But this time, I noticed 20% was just added to my tab and didn't even say it was for tip. There were only 2 of us. I'm a great tipper so I was going to do 20% total anyways but I had already given cash to the chef. I intended to give cash then to the waitress. But when I asked what the 20% was, she said that they always share with the chef but anything I give the chef is just for him. Ok, I understand but that is nowhere on the menu and additionally I come here all the time and I've never had someone say something to me about tip. So I insisted she remove it. Going forward I will tip only on the final bill. They're basically requiring you to tip 20% now. So just be aware. So this is an Asian restaurant with an option for hibachi experiences. You get a bowl of miso soup, veggies with interesting sauce that I can't pinpoint but throughly enjoyed, and during the hibachi chef entertainment, you get fried rice or noodles, you selected meat, and sautéed veggies. Every cook has their own style, but almost all try to do a performance of waving their utensils, onion volcano, catch the veggie slice with your mouth, and a spray shot of sake! Kids get water to join in. This place has Mic Mou, a Mickey Mouse head with a drum and servers singing happy birthday to one lucky person and a free dish of 3 scoops of ice cream. I ordered a drink of an alcoholic Thai tea, and it was delicious! Overall this place is a family friend habachi experience of cooking shows in front of you. This does get to be a loud experience for those with small kids or with sensory needs individuals. Earbuds were very helpful. Service is always good and prompt. Stopped here late on a Tuesday night. Pleased to find some sushi specials! There were a few dollars or so off several rolls, so I opted for one of these discounted ones. They were good! Not the best sushi I've had but I'd be back. I do remember their sweet potato maki being delicious back in the day. Service was really quick, but we were probably one of three tables in the restaurant. It's a big place and there's plenty of variety in seating; my friend and I were in a nice little alcove area. Went in for my husbands birthday with a party of 9. The chef gave us a great time and the food was amazing. I tipped the chef out for his great service. We all enjoyed our meals.....until the check came. We paid our tab and I left the waitress way more than the service she provided, given that I had already tipped the chef for the service he provided. The waitress came right back with the check presenter and pointed to the tip line and told me "you didn't tip this much" pointing to the 20% suggestion. I explained to her that I tipped the chef and I have now tipped $70 on $300...which I over 20%. She corrected me and told me that because they have to split with the chef and he doesn't have to split with them, they need more money. Another person came out from somewhere and tried to explain it to me like I didnt understand. Then she pulls her phone out to show another person in my party a whole paragraph written in Asian about how tipping works. When we got to the door, the owner came out trying to smooth the situation out and told me that "I was confused" on how they work their tips out. I'm in the industry and never been treated like this or have ever thought about treating a customer this way. While the food was amazing, and the chef was amazing, it isn't the customers job to way over tip because of your tip out system. With that being said, this has happened to a few people I know, once I started asking around. Chasing people out the door for money isn't a good look, especially given there are quite a few hibachi places in the area. Sorry Sakura, we won't be back. read more

She asked for my name & phone number & told me that my order would take about 20 minutes. Imagine my embarrassment when I showed up to Sakura in Providence (where I live) to find out that I had placed my order at the wrong restaurant. Disaster! Went for hibachi and when the guy was done cooking our food I tipped him $20 cash and so did the other couple at our table. Waitress that served our drinks, salad and soup was miserable and sat at a table next to us playing on her phone. When I got our bill for $156 which was drinks and 3 hibachi meals I wrote cash to tip the girl who got our drinks, I gave her $10 cash because she was not very welcoming and I already tipped the guy cooking for us. We left and were talking to our friends at the bar and when we walked out the door a lady who did not wait on us chased us out the door asking why we only tipped $10? I said I tipped the guy who cooked for us and $10 to the miserable waitress. She said well you could of tipped on the bill they split the tips, I said well he has $20 she had $10. The lady walked back inside. I called the restaurant to speak to a manager who basically said I'll talk to the woman who approached you, I said maybe you should let people know ahead of time or on your menu about tipping for hibachi basically he could of cared less and hung up on me . Shoyu ramen was delicious, perfectly packed to go with the broth in a separate container (wrapped so it doesn't spill), and the broth was steaming hot so my meal was ready out of the bag and quickly heated up the ingredients in the bowl. The restaurant is spacious, clean, and modern. it's also divided into 2 sections for regular dining and for hibachi dining. The hibachi section has multiple grills and each grill station can host small or large parties. the grill masters were skilled and very entertaining. the waitress were also very friendly and attentive. Our waitress Ashley was such a pleasure, so knowledgeable and took her time to tell us about the menu and made sure that my rolls were cooked since I'm pregnant. We placed our drink order and app order and within 10 mins we had both! She was smiley and happy to help. When we got our food the presentation was absolutely beautiful! HOLY FRESH!! This was by far one of the best sushi restaurants my bf and I have gone to from one coast to the other! I have been very empathetic and understanding of any snafus in dining in these COVID times. Restaurants have been devastatingly impacted over the last year and a minor incorrect piece of an order is the least of anyone's worries. During a recent order at Sakura, I can honestly say I have never had such an atrocious experience with picking up take-out than I did on New Year's Eve at Sakura. We placed our order online NYE morning. The system provides a pick-up window for around 5:35pm. I arrived around 5:15 expecting it to be busy being a holiday. I arrived to find 10 people ahead of me. We socially distanced and waited outside the restaurant until someone left the vestibule that you picked up your order in. I tried calling the restaurant to cancel orders, but the line continuously rang. After an HOUR, I finally reached the vestibule. I provide my number and the woman leaves to go find and it 15 minutes later comes back and asks to help the next person in line. Myself and another customer stood waiting for another half hour without an answer to where our orders were that were supposed to be ready an hour and 15 minutes earlier. Inside, about 30 or so orders are sitting there getting cold and no one is announcing names. Staff was calling customers to say their orders were ready only for them to get to the front window and be told the orders were not ready...what?! The man who was making drinks at the bar came to help the woman who disappeared completely from the front desk. He proceeds to tell me the order wasn't ready yet. Frustrated as I was, I explained that the food should've been ready 2 hours ago and I would like to cancel. He said okay and that I should do it on the website. The website did not allow placed orders to be cancelled. I left a voicemail later that evening to ask for a refund. I received no call-back but spoke to someone on New Year's Day who processed the refund. Now, I get it. The past year has been a challenge for restaurants that have morphed to take-out only. Sakura has seamlessly handled this thus far. My only guess is that they felt they could handle orders and saw the plentiful business they would bring in. They could not have been handled this any more unprofessionally than they did. Not one staff member showed gratitude or empathy for the customers who waited in the cold for 1-2 hours for their order. We could not just leave, because those of us that pre-paid were fearful we wouldn't get a refund. I could look past the madness of the evening if at least one person apologized. There was no 'thank you so much for your business' or 'we apologize for the mix-ups.' I didn't even get an apology on the phone the day after. For that reason, I will NEVER step foot in that restaurant again, which is disappointing because of the quality of their food. read more
