I finally get to review this place after having come here since it opened. It took me THIS long. I have been telling everyone I know about this little-known all-you-can-eat sushi (plus select Chinese food) for as long as I can remember. No embellishment: I have just about given up on finding really good-quality sushi in this state, let alone an all-you-can-eat spot. But I was impressed. Check out my pics, and you can clearly see how fresh the sushi is when they're presented. The food speaks for itself. I did not expect this place to last this long, given the price and the quality of the food, but here we are--which brings me to the point that you really must order only what you can consume if you go for the all-you-can-eat. You'll be charged if you overorder, because it's a shame to waste quality food. The restaurant is family-friendly and BYOB. The à la carte menu also contains some savory items. I have seen some guests opting for à la carte Chinese rather than sushi. Some of my favorite non-sushi items in the AYCE menu are the wonton soup (delicious and garlicky) and steamed siomai. I have shied away from the shrimp tempura, though, as I can taste the oil in the batter, even though I have been assured that the kitchen uses only fresh oil for their fried items. You can never go wrong with AYCE sushi, especially when Cayenne is one of a kind here in Rhode Island (at least from what I've discovered so far)! First, price. For $30 per person, you get endless options including soups, appetizers, salads, nigiri, sashimi, rolls, hand rolls and special rolls. I always make the pan-fried pork dumplings, sashimi (tuna and salmon), spicy salmon hand roll and special rainbow roll my go-tos. As tempting as it is to check everything off the sheet, do pace yourself because they charge for leftovers. However, you can do as many rounds as you want as long as your plates are clean before the next one. I love the variety, though quality can be hit or miss on certain days. That said, across the many times I've visited, it's been fairly consistent. If you're looking for a "max your fill" spot rather than traditional, higher-quality sushi, I have a feeling you'll love Cayenne. We've always had great service with a friendly waitress who's welcoming right at the door. She consistently checks in to make sure we're enjoying our time there and I love how warm her personality is. Though the kitchen can be on the slower side at times, it's always worth the wait to see everything we ordered compiled on a massive plate. Overall, I really enjoy coming to Cayenne! They may not be for everyone, but I love the AYCE concept that lets you splurge on sushi without the high ticket prices. All you can eat $30 per person. I love the sashimi, always fresh and delicious. The sushi is always good too and it is very filling when it is all you can eat. I always start with the hot and sour soup, very flavorful and full of mushrooms. Everything is good now matter what it is and Joyce is always attentive, making sure your water glass is filled and ready to take your next order. Just stopped in while driving by and tried the Vietnamese summer rolls with mango sauce and the sushi pizza. Both were excellent. I was actually craving some nime chow so the summer rolls were a very tasty alternative. The mango sauce paired perfect. And the sushi pizza.. on a scallion pancake with seaweed salad hit the spot. And I don't even like seaweed salad by itself. Portions were great too. Staff was also very friendly. Gonna have to come back for the all you can eat sushi. The tuna is a bit mushy, and even the sashimi tuna isn't a piece of fish, it's the mushy version. For the price, this is worth the "all you can eat" sushi place! Service is always great, and they answer all questions you might have on your orders. Food arrives after some wait but keep in mind this sushi isn't pre-made. I stopped at Cayenne Sushi in Rhode Island on New Years Day. I happened to be getting gas and saw it near by. I was surprised to see that it was an all you eat sushi restaurant. The service was very quick. The restaurant was jumping with customers. I placed my order and the food came out quickly. So I was super happy that it didn't take long. The food was delicious and they had a wide variety of choices on the all you can eat menu. The proportions were a good size, much better than I've seen at other places in New England. The other places in New England, their proportions were smaller than usual. So I was definitely pleased with Cayenne Sushi!! The bathrooms were very clean. The interior is the normal layout with bench seats along the wall with tables. The service was very on point and they continued to check the table often to ensure there are no needs of their patrons. TLDR: A very fulfilling and diverse All-You-Can-Eat sushi dinner for $35 w/ tip. Relatively long wait before sushi gets on the table, but the quality is great. Service can be hit or miss depending on time and table size. Came with a handful of friends on a weekday night, so there wasn't a big crowd, but still several tables. Cayenne gave a slightly shady first impression, but it wasn't that bad once we sat down and started getting food. The AYCE comes in rounds - you check what you want for each round, and they will get it to the table, giving you and the restaurant a chance to pace yourself. However, each leftover piece is charged $1: sashimi, sushi, nigiri, or whatnot. The owners keep a close eye on that, so definitely avoid overordering off the bat. The wait between appetizers and the sushi can be overbearing (~45 min), but it makes sense: There are only a handful of sushi chefs, and they present everything you order per round at the same time on a single plate, regardless of how much or how little you order for yourself. I personally liked the nigiri/sashimi here better than the sushi rolls. I enjoyed their scallion pancakes as well. The apps were trash. Oil leaking out of crab Rangoon's. Gyoza was not fried it was pan steamed and didn't seem like that's even an applicable cooking process seeing as its pork. Left the texture gummy like uncooked dough. Got my sushi wrong on my plate and they swapped it with my friend's instead. The rolls were good tho and the quality was good too. I'd give it another try. For $27 each person, it was All You Can Eat, and while better quality fish would be nice, it was really just for volume. At some point, the fish tasted very bland and was just mushy with no distinct flavor. The location was very small not a giant restaurant by any means, basically just a room with a hallway, more of a Pizza/Coffee shop layout. When it comes to service let me tell you I waited just about 2 hours before even getting my food & I was so frustrated I wanted to leave. I went out for a smoke & they noticed me leaving so then they finally brought our food, my sushi roll was burnt & they gave my girlfriend the wrong roll. Cayenne sushi is an awesome spot for all you can eat sushi! It's located in a strip mall off of a main road in Johnston in what used to be a D'Angelos. The interior is nothing to write home about but you don't come to an AYCE spot for the ambiance. The price is right here and the sushi is even better than expected. It always tastes fresh and the specialty rolls are bomb. Favorites include tuna extreme, special rainbow, Johnston roll, elegant roll, and TNT roll. The restaurant can get a bit busy on weekends so I recommend if you are with a bigger group to try and place your order in one complete round rather than doing multiple small rounds otherwise you may be waiting a while for your food to come out. The waitress is a total sweetheart here and knows the regulars. She works so hard and we always are happy to see her. I've taken off one star due to the sometimes slow service when busy and the sushi chef. He has always been pleasant to our groups but on a few occasions we have witnessed the behavior mentioned in other reviews such as coming out to speak with groups about how much they ordered or cutting them off from ordering. I also could be doing it wrong because at other places I have gone to, we ordered for the table to eat, but they gave us multiple slips so i think we each would have ordered our own. So I have been coming here for a really long time and the food was always great. I have introduced many people to this gem. We are always polite and tip $10 a person on a 27 dollar bill. RUDEST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD. I visited this restaurant with my friends for a meal. While we were waiting for a table, a sushi chef came out and told us that we should go to another restaurant instead of dining at theirs. Later, we found out that this person was actually the manager of the restaurant. My friends and I were pretty shocked by the situation, so we asked for an explanation. The manager mentioned that they had prepared sushi for us with great care and effort, only to find out that we were planning to leave a negative review behind their back. We were so confused as we had never left any review about this restaurant before. After checking the reviews online, I realized that this restaurant just denied the entry of Asians for ridiculous excuses.
