Was blown away by the food here, I haven't had Japanese food this good in a while. Their lucky roll on St. Patrick's day impressed both my date and I, and the Negamaki was fantastic. Some of the best Japanese food locally, and the place was very well decorated with a darker look to it. Will definitely come back!

Have been a frequenter of Yama...bums me out to give them 3 stars(pun intended). I mean it's a bummer. Legit. The last several times I've eaten here I have not had a pleasant after experience. Mcgurgle and the follow-up clean out. I'm trying to spare you the graphic details! The food tastes so good, but beyond that it's a bit of a nightmare. For now I'm putting this place on hiatus. If I revisit, there will be a follow up review. I'm going to get to the...bottom...of this. Badummtssssss

We arrived around 7:30 without a reservation and I was nervous there wouldn't be an opening- thankfully no wait though! The restaurant itself is decorated nicely, spacious, and has a great bar where you can watch the chefs cook. I always like being able to see the chefs work their magic and this was no different. There are numerous options on the menu and they have a large sushi list as well. Our waitress was prompt and friendly. I ended up ordering the hibachi scallop while my significant other had a sushi roll. The food came out quickly and prepared nicely. I always like their hibachi as it comes with a lot of different food items. The salad was okay, a little wilted but their dressing is always wonderful. The meal itself was good- a generous portion of scallops, lots of zucchini which are my favorite, and the fried rice was good as well. A little clumpy when I'm used to kernels but not bad at all. If you're looking for a good hibachi dinner I highly recommend trying this place! It's not perfect but definitely has its qualities.

We were greeted and sat at a table. Right next to a 4 top that had all of the previous parties dirty unbiased dishes on it. Which remained there throughout our entire meal. Gross. Our server was nice but stops at our table were rare, surprising since it was so slow. Got the spicy edemame app - very tasty! We had not been given silverware or napkins, so as a finger food this was not ideal. Ordered Ramen and Sushi. Was not given/offered chopsticks, so had to ask. Had to ask again about utensils and napkins. Was not given soy sauce. I ended up getting up to walk over to the sushi counter to ask a cook for it. So instead of providing shallow trays and a pourable sushi bottle, which should be automatic in any sushi restaurant, I was wan handed a 5-6 inch tall narrow bowl with Soy sauce on the bottom - almost impossible to use for dipping sushi into. Wife had a Japanese import beer which was fine. I had the house version of a scorpion bowl which I found unpleasant. All in all, food was average, service poor. I worry at sushi places that if they don't have the front of house operating smoothly, what is happening with food prep and the kitchen. I hope this was just a one off situation, and I'll certainly try the place again.

We ordered sushi along with a few appetizers, and everything came out beautifully plated -- definitely a place that puts effort into presentation. The sushi itself was very good. I wouldn't say it was the absolute best I've ever had, but it's right up there with some of the better spots around. The building itself is actually really nice -- modern, clean, and well put together. My only real gripe is the atmosphere felt a little too dark because of all the bamboo shades covering the windows. I get the vibe they're going for, but honestly, North Smithfield isn't exactly Times Square... I'd rather be able to see outside than stare at covered windows. Lightening it up a bit would really improve the dining experience. Drinks were just okay -- a bit of a letdown that they don't carry Coke products, but not a dealbreaker. Overall, a great lunch spot with quality sushi, nice presentation, and a cool space -- just a couple small tweaks away from being even better. I'd definitely come back.

We were sat incredibly quickly and provided menus. As many reviews have stated, the menu items are quite expansive. You will see Chinese and Japanese food items. We ordered tea and pork gyoza for starters. We also ordered ramen. I did the spicy miso and she requested beef noodles. The server was friendly but definitely took a bit long to bring the food or check in on us. At one point we got our entree before the appetizer. She forgot to put it in. It wasn't horrible but the service could use some improvement to better tend to the customers. Wasn't anything huge to ruin the night but as a visitor from out of town, it was quite noticeable. I'd return to try their sushi or lunch specials.

5 stars across the board for service, ambiance, flavor, and pricing…read more My friend and I were in the mood for sushi and were headed to Attleboro so decided to stop by here after running an errand. It was around 8 pm so we were hoping it wasn't too packed and luckily it was about 50% full. They are located in a plaza with lots of popular businesses so parking can be scarce at times, but we had no issues this time. We were seated at a table with half comfy bench and half rigid chair so my friend and I decided to turn the table the long way and both sit on the comfy bench side. One of the hosts saw us close like sardines, came over and happily moved over a second table for us which was super kind of her. We ordered a sweet potato roll ($9), shrimp tempura roll ($12), and shrimp pad thai ($19). The sweet potato roll was the best one we've ever had as the sweet potato was not only really sweet, but it was very crispy and almost had caramelized edges. The shrimp tempura roll was also delicious. The slices were thin but wide as it had two pieces of shrimp tempura. I asked for spicy mayo on top instead of eel sauce. The pad thai was my least favorite since it didn't have many veggies, but also because it was a little too sweet, though the little lime wedge helped a bit. It did come with a good amount of shrimp, maybe 8 of them. For the prices, the serving sizes were good. Our server was attentive and very nice. They have a couple TVs along the wall and they have an open sushi bar where you can watch them making the rolls. The place is also clean.

It is small on the inside, but there are plenty of tables and there's a sushi station, where you can watch them make the rolls right in front of you. We got seated next to a wall, so it felt semiprivate. My friend did warn me the food takes a while to come out, so I placed my full order all at once. For sushi, my friend and I ordered the Tempura (8 pieces), Yam Roll (8 pieces), and Umeshiso (6 pieces). We also shared the Shrimp Yakisoba. The sushi came out after about 25 minutes and the noodles about 15 minutes after. The sushi pieces were a lot smaller than what I am used to, but I really appreciated that the ratios were still right and I didn't have to break a jaw to get it into my mouth. The shrimp tempura was the one I was most familiar with and it was very tasty. The yam roll was delicious and almost tasted like a French fry. The Umeshiso was unique. It was very salty and limey with a subtle mint flavor and a sweet after taste from the plum paste. The shrimp yakisoba was incredible. It was very flavorful; the noodles were perfectly cooked, there were lots of fresh vegetables, and about 4 big and juicy shrimp. I enjoyed my time here. Although service is slow, the staff was very attentive, and it felt nice to slow things down.

With a 4.6 rating, we were genuinely excited to try it. Walking in, first impressions were great. The inside of the restaurant was super cute, the artwork was beautifully done, and the initial greeting was welcoming. Unfortunately, things started going downhill pretty quickly after that. We had a few questions about the menu, but the hostess seemed confused and didn't really understand what we were asking, so we ultimately just gave up and ordered what sounded good. Food-wise, it was very mixed. The sushi roll was phenomenal...genuinely the best part of the experience, and my son absolutely loved his. The shrimp udon was okay, but the portion was noticeably smaller than what most sushi places serve. The salmon poke bowl was very basic and honestly underwhelming. I also asked for spicy mayo, which was never brought out. The biggest disappointment was the service. Paying $4 for a canned soda with no refills already felt excessive, but when my son accidentally spilled it, we cleaned it up immediately ourselves. No one offered extra napkins, replaced the plate, or even asked if we wanted another drink. It just felt inattentive from start to finish. To make matters worse, one staff member was sitting at the bar listening to something loudly on a laptop, which completely took away from the atmosphere and felt unprofessional. As someone who used to waitress, I understand the service industry and I'm usually a generous tipper. But I also believe tips reflect service, and unfortunately this experience missed the mark. After picking up our receipt, the hostess was visibly unhappy with the tip amount and had no issue making that clear which only reinforced the poor experience. I very rarely leave one-star reviews, but for a place with a 4.6 star reputation and "top-rated" marketing, this was incredibly disappointing. Cute atmosphere and one great sushi roll aside, the service and overall experience were just not what we expected.
