First time for Hibachi. I had an absolute wonderful time! The chef was funny and a pleasure to watch. the food was amazing! I didn't try it but loved watching the super soaker do its thing! I will definitely go there again.

Was blown away by the food here, I haven't had Japanese food this good in a while. Their lucky roll on St. Patrick's day impressed both my date and I, and the Negamaki was fantastic. Some of the best Japanese food locally, and the place was very well decorated with a darker look to it. Will definitely come back!

Have been a frequenter of Yama...bums me out to give them 3 stars(pun intended). I mean it's a bummer. Legit. The last several times I've eaten here I have not had a pleasant after experience. Mcgurgle and the follow-up clean out. I'm trying to spare you the graphic details! The food tastes so good, but beyond that it's a bit of a nightmare. For now I'm putting this place on hiatus. If I revisit, there will be a follow up review. I'm going to get to the...bottom...of this. Badummtssssss

We arrived around 7:30 without a reservation and I was nervous there wouldn't be an opening- thankfully no wait though! The restaurant itself is decorated nicely, spacious, and has a great bar where you can watch the chefs cook. I always like being able to see the chefs work their magic and this was no different. There are numerous options on the menu and they have a large sushi list as well. Our waitress was prompt and friendly. I ended up ordering the hibachi scallop while my significant other had a sushi roll. The food came out quickly and prepared nicely. I always like their hibachi as it comes with a lot of different food items. The salad was okay, a little wilted but their dressing is always wonderful. The meal itself was good- a generous portion of scallops, lots of zucchini which are my favorite, and the fried rice was good as well. A little clumpy when I'm used to kernels but not bad at all. If you're looking for a good hibachi dinner I highly recommend trying this place! It's not perfect but definitely has its qualities.

The lunch special is a little pricier than other sushi restaurants in the area, but nothing crazy. I love their spicy Kani hand roll. Not many people know this but they have an AYCE option on Monday and Tuesday for $35. It's a really good deal and you can pretty much choose from whatever - sushi or not! The service has been good when I visited. I have noticed it is sometimes slow, so plan some time if you're going there. The drinks are pretty good as well. It is small inside, but overall a cute little place.

We ordered sushi along with a few appetizers, and everything came out beautifully plated -- definitely a place that puts effort into presentation. The sushi itself was very good. I wouldn't say it was the absolute best I've ever had, but it's right up there with some of the better spots around. The building itself is actually really nice -- modern, clean, and well put together. My only real gripe is the atmosphere felt a little too dark because of all the bamboo shades covering the windows. I get the vibe they're going for, but honestly, North Smithfield isn't exactly Times Square... I'd rather be able to see outside than stare at covered windows. Lightening it up a bit would really improve the dining experience. Drinks were just okay -- a bit of a letdown that they don't carry Coke products, but not a dealbreaker. Overall, a great lunch spot with quality sushi, nice presentation, and a cool space -- just a couple small tweaks away from being even better. I'd definitely come back.

We were sat incredibly quickly and provided menus. As many reviews have stated, the menu items are quite expansive. You will see Chinese and Japanese food items. We ordered tea and pork gyoza for starters. We also ordered ramen. I did the spicy miso and she requested beef noodles. The server was friendly but definitely took a bit long to bring the food or check in on us. At one point we got our entree before the appetizer. She forgot to put it in. It wasn't horrible but the service could use some improvement to better tend to the customers. Wasn't anything huge to ruin the night but as a visitor from out of town, it was quite noticeable. I'd return to try their sushi or lunch specials.

My friend who is Japanese recommended this place and identified it as having the most authentic…read morefood out of the ones she's tried in the state. It is small on the inside, but there are plenty of tables and there's a sushi station, where you can watch them make the rolls right in front of you. We got seated next to a wall, so it felt semiprivate. My friend did warn me the food takes a while to come out, so I placed my full order all at once. For sushi, my friend and I ordered the Tempura (8 pieces), Yam Roll (8 pieces), and Umeshiso (6 pieces). We also shared the Shrimp Yakisoba. The sushi came out after about 25 minutes and the noodles about 15 minutes after. The sushi pieces were a lot smaller than what I am used to, but I really appreciated that the ratios were still right and I didn't have to break a jaw to get it into my mouth. The shrimp tempura was the one I was most familiar with and it was very tasty. The yam roll was delicious and almost tasted like a French fry. The Umeshiso was unique. It was very salty and limey with a subtle mint flavor and a sweet after taste from the plum paste. The shrimp yakisoba was incredible. It was very flavorful; the noodles were perfectly cooked, there were lots of fresh vegetables, and about 4 big and juicy shrimp. I enjoyed my time here. Although service is slow, the staff was very attentive, and it felt nice to slow things down.

As one of the highest rated sushi bars in Providence I have to say I was very disappointed to say the least. The quality of the fish and rice was that of which you would find at most any sushi restaurant, overly saturated fish lacking in texture. Hard stiff sushi rice laking texture and flavor used for the nigiri (possibly due to the quality of fish on top). This was also a first time for me finding a bone in the sashimi or receiving Kani as part of a house sashimi. They also had Maine Uni available, the portion of Uni was the smallest I have ever received just 3-4 gonads atop very stale rice wrapped in a nori paper which all completely overtook the flavor of the Uni its self. As a whole I would judge Ran Zan as a baseline sushi restaurant by western standards for the quality of its ingredients and the quality put into the preparation and presentation of its dishes. 4.8/10 if you want sushi go to your local spot or look further for the real high quality sushi restaurants/bars Providence HAS to have better to offer.

With a 4.6 rating, we were genuinely excited to try it. Walking in, first impressions were great. The inside of the restaurant was super cute, the artwork was beautifully done, and the initial greeting was welcoming. Unfortunately, things started going downhill pretty quickly after that. We had a few questions about the menu, but the hostess seemed confused and didn't really understand what we were asking, so we ultimately just gave up and ordered what sounded good. Food-wise, it was very mixed. The sushi roll was phenomenal...genuinely the best part of the experience, and my son absolutely loved his. The shrimp udon was okay, but the portion was noticeably smaller than what most sushi places serve. The salmon poke bowl was very basic and honestly underwhelming. I also asked for spicy mayo, which was never brought out. The biggest disappointment was the service. Paying $4 for a canned soda with no refills already felt excessive, but when my son accidentally spilled it, we cleaned it up immediately ourselves. No one offered extra napkins, replaced the plate, or even asked if we wanted another drink. It just felt inattentive from start to finish. To make matters worse, one staff member was sitting at the bar listening to something loudly on a laptop, which completely took away from the atmosphere and felt unprofessional. As someone who used to waitress, I understand the service industry and I'm usually a generous tipper. But I also believe tips reflect service, and unfortunately this experience missed the mark. After picking up our receipt, the hostess was visibly unhappy with the tip amount and had no issue making that clear which only reinforced the poor experience. I very rarely leave one-star reviews, but for a place with a 4.6 star reputation and "top-rated" marketing, this was incredibly disappointing. Cute atmosphere and one great sushi roll aside, the service and overall experience were just not what we expected.
