I have been very empathetic and understanding of any snafus in dining in these COVID times. Restaurants have been devastatingly impacted over the last year and a minor incorrect piece of an order is the least of anyone's worries. During a recent order at Sakura, I can honestly say I have never had such an atrocious experience with picking up take-out than I did on New Year's Eve at Sakura. We placed our order online NYE morning. The system provides a pick-up window for around 5:35pm. I arrived around 5:15 expecting it to be busy being a holiday. I arrived to find 10 people ahead of me. We socially distanced and waited outside the restaurant until someone left the vestibule that you picked up your order in. I tried calling the restaurant to cancel orders, but the line continuously rang. After an HOUR, I finally reached the vestibule. I provide my number and the woman leaves to go find and it 15 minutes later comes back and asks to help the next person in line. Myself and another customer stood waiting for another half hour without an answer to where our orders were that were supposed to be ready an hour and 15 minutes earlier. Inside, about 30 or so orders are sitting there getting cold and no one is announcing names. Staff was calling customers to say their orders were ready only for them to get to the front window and be told the orders were not ready...what?! The man who was making drinks at the bar came to help the woman who disappeared completely from the front desk. He proceeds to tell me the order wasn't ready yet. Frustrated as I was, I explained that the food should've been ready 2 hours ago and I would like to cancel. He said okay and that I should do it on the website. The website did not allow placed orders to be cancelled. I left a voicemail later that evening to ask for a refund. I received no call-back but spoke to someone on New Year's Day who processed the refund. Now, I get it. The past year has been a challenge for restaurants that have morphed to take-out only. Sakura has seamlessly handled this thus far. My only guess is that they felt they could handle orders and saw the plentiful business they would bring in. They could not have been handled this any more unprofessionally than they did. Not one staff member showed gratitude or empathy for the customers who waited in the cold for 1-2 hours for their order. We could not just leave, because those of us that pre-paid were fearful we wouldn't get a refund. I could look past the madness of the evening if at least one person apologized. There was no 'thank you so much for your business' or 'we apologize for the mix-ups.' I didn't even get an apology on the phone the day after. For that reason, I will NEVER step foot in that restaurant again, which is disappointing because of the quality of their food. read more

Very average. Not bad but nothing amazing. I've had sushi all over the world and usually find a place once a week and/or in every location I travel to. I would probably come here again for convenience but I would expect more from a sushi place in the North East with this pricing. They're priced as premium quality while the fish is definitely not premium. The sashima, nigiri, and rolls were all mid quality. Also delivery is very unorganized. I have been here several times. I think the food is great. The presentation and flavors are always wonderful. The ingredients are fresh and delicious. But last night was an experience that I am going to share. We sat down and after a few minutes, a member of the staff asked us if we wouldn't mind changing our table. The reason was that they had a big party that they needed to sit together. No problem whatsoever. We ordered two mocktails. The waitress kind of gave us the eyeroll. She seemed disappointed that they weren't alcoholic drinks. Sakura has great mocktails. Delicious and refreshing. We ordered appetizers first. The waitress did not understand that we wanted to wait before putting in our order for the entrees. She kept insisting that she could control the order. It took her a few minutes before she realized we weren't ready. One hot and sour soup. One gyoza soup. The waitress brought the wrong soup. We ordered sushi. We later out in an order of chicken egg foo Yung. The waitress came over to see how we were doing. But she would turn away before we could answer. The egg foo young came out without the gravy/sauce. This place was an Italian joint a few months ago, a new owner and an amazing make-over later, this restaurant is now gorgeous. Smiling owners at the door, polite, quick and knowledgeable staff at our beck and call. We're sushi fans so we sat at the sushi bar but you have choice to sit at the hibachi grills, the bar or a table. The menu is very interesting, some basic Chinese food fares, Hibachi specialties and Japanese fare, a full bar of mid shelf alcohol and a good wine list. We got 2 drinks, me a martini and Chris a kirin beer We started with a Screaming Maki ($11,95) and a sashimi deluxe (15 pieces for $23,95) The roll was made quickly and expertly, the young chef knows what he's doing. Fresh roe and interesting combination. The sashimi plate was gorgeous with edible orchids and fresh fish ( tuna, salmon, white tuna, yellowfin and bass) which were all excellent, my only complaint was the yellowfin was still slightly frozen. This plate comes with a miso soup and house salad (thousand island dressing~disappointing) The chef then suggested a few things for us to try, the salmon roe and clam, we also tried the pickled mackerel (shimesaba) which was ~delicious~ For dessert we tried the fried cheese cake ($5,95) which we got for free~ty! PROs: Friendly, knowledgeable staff, fresh fish CONs: Lack of top shelf booze, no cold sake It's a new restaurant syndrome, the dressing and small booze choice will probably be fixed soon, the owner assured us they would get taller chairs for the sushi bar too. We'll go back, we got away paying $92 with a generous tip, for South Attleboro, it's a breeze of fresh air. read more

I dined at Sakura with my family at on April 19th right before 3pm. We had some fried rice and a variety of different kinds of sushi, all very good. The reason why I deduct one star is because our waitress this day made us quite uncomfortable. We perceived that she was giving us bad looks and talking to us in a rude tone. For example, when she asked what we wanted for drinks I asked my parents what they wanted but in Spanish, as I usually translate for them when we go out to eat. When we were talking in Spanish the waitress says "huh???" in a very rude tone. I told her to give us just a minute while I got their drink orders. She later brought our drinks. My dad and I got tea but he wanted sugar and there was none at the table. I asked my mom to flag down the waitress and she just looked at my mom with a bothered and confused look. So I decided to try to flag her over by politely waving and she continued to give me the weirdest look. The waitress finally came over and I asked her for sugar and again the same tone as last time she exclaimed "sugar??!!". I understand that in certain cultures it's not custom to add sugar to tea and I'm not sure if that's what the issue was, but regardless, I was confused and upset as to why we were getting this tone. Overall, the lunch was pretty uncomfortable because of the way we were being treated and I just couldn't wait to leave. I wasn't going to leave this review but I changed my mind after my mom, who was there that day, admitted to me that she felt uncomfortable by the waitresses facial expression and tone. Even though my mom didn't understand what the waitress was saying as my mom is not English speaking, she could still sense the hostility. Ordered food to go - my review is solely based on the lunch maki combos. For me, it's the best value for what I like. Maki was good. Miso soup was good and piping hot, which isn't the case at most restaurants. Only downside was that they don't open until noon on a weekend which is strange since most people like to eat lunch at 12pm. read more

Wow, how disappointing. We were really looking forward to a new Asian restaurant -- and it's beautiful inside -- but the service and the food cancel out the decor. The service was dreadful -- we had to ask the other waiters for basics like a knife (for the oversized greasy vegetarian spring roll which had only cabbage in it) and we had a surly, aggressive waitress who was ready for a fight, even though she repeatedly told us it was her first night. We told her that we weren't happy with the food and she just argued with us -- and then told us that she'd spoken to the manager but the manager never acknowledged us or offered adjustments to the bill. He never came over or spoke to us....definitely a missed opportunity to make a good first impression. My Non-Hunan Chicken had the exact same sauce, color and consistency as my friend's Happy Family dish (which should be a light white sauce) -- it was like a red buffalo sauce -- spicy but strangely devoid of flavor. My other friend's lo mein was almost all noodles and had only onions as vegetables -- just awful. And expensive. Save your money. Sad.... read more

Sakura is aaiiighht. Their service is slow but that just allows for more time to talk with whomever you're dining with. The menu is expansive, and there are cooked and non-fish options available if that's your kind of thing. I usually stick to the sweet potato and egg sushi, along with a meal. It's your standard Chinese/Japanese restaurant + sushi. Parking can be a little difficult, but it is an enjoyable meal. Check out the Japanese sodas! read more

I go here many times. The sushi is good, I recommend the caterpillar roll and spider shrimp. The appetizer sampler, chicken wings, beef teriyaki especially are also delicious. BUT to be honest, the food isn't all that. It is bland and overpriced to me. The atmosphere is good though & there is a bigger dining area for hibachi. This place definitely grew on me. I came here a few times but the more I came the more I notice how much I love their sushi and service. The sushi is pretty good, probably the best in Attleboro. The presentation is pretty too so it makes it even more delicious. I've eaten lots of chinese takeout and deliveries around Attleboro but not once have I ever actually step foot in the restaurant itself until I decided to dine here. Beautiful decor and lighting. Finally ordered sushi from them. It was great and the service was good. The hand rolls were very filling and the tuna melted in your mouth. I will be returning for future lunches. Tried this place for the first time the other night and we were not disappointed. Although the exterior approach is a little rough, I assure you, this place is a diamond. Inside you will find a clean, welcoming atmosphere, well appointed with friendly staff. We ordered wanton soup and hot and sour soups for our apps and both were delicious. Then red dragon and screaming maki rolls as a main dish. Both tasted fresh and delicious. We will definitely be giving this diamond in the rough another try. read more

Went into the bar last Thursday night. Bartender was very slow, not much personality. Had to ask for another drink, ask multiple times for water. Just very slow service. Go for the mai tais and the lunch sushi special. You cannot beat 3 rolls and salad for under $14. The mai tais are just strong strong strong as they should be. Visited for lunch last month. We couldn't understand the cook that grilled our hibachi but nonetheless he was some fun. Squeeze a shot of saki in my sisters mouth. Food was pretty good. Won't be ordering from here again....... As my husband put it "we just got robbed without a gun". I called in an order for the sampler which is their version of the pu pu platter & an order of chow mein. $30.00!!! WOW 2 , 4 inch pieces of teriyaki.. Really that's it, just 2 & yes they were really that small. Just so you know I'm not exaggerating I took a pic of them. Very dry spare ribs. For the most part it would seem like the pork & the chicken wings were reheated from leftovers. Basically my husband looked at the food & threw out the menu. We have eaten here before and will return. We picked up our sushi and sashimi this last Friday night. The order took a lot longer (about 40 min) than usual but we are in a pandemic where so few establishments are staying open beyond 8PM and Sakura was exceptionally busy Friday night. This is not my absolute fave sushi within a 40 mile radius but it's good and it's local. I have not been disappointed coming to this business and I always finish my food and say "that was good"--so that's a win for me. The customer service is also efficient and kind. We had the smoked salmon sashimi (or I thought that was what I was ordering)--it was delicious and melted in our mouths--though we were sad we didn't make sure it would come placed on top of rice (which it doesn't). I think that is my fault by not checking. The other roll we ordered was the crispy tuna maki, and it was pretty good. I felt like the food was worth the wait. My first time visit was prompted by my complete lack of desire to fight holiday and rush hour traffic to make it to Providence and guaranteed good sushi. This place is recently opened -- and literally five minutes from my house -- but I hadn't explored before tonight ... so glad I did! I didn't experience the hibachi, so I can't speak to that, other than there were some rowdy locals enjoying it. I sat in the dining area and had great service. Granted, it wasn't a crowded restaurant on a Tues night, but the service was friendly, prompt and exact. I ordered some steamed shumai to start and that was delivered swiftly and arrived warm. It was good. Not stellar, but good. However, I was happily surprised by how really good the sushi was. The presentation was lovely, the sushi fresh, and the taste was very satisfying. As a bonus, the pickled ginger was delish! This is a small, but picky thing with me -- I can't stand when places serve dyed pickled ginger -- ti's not meant to be pink! I bought two groupons for here seeing as my first two experiences here were good. I enjoyed the hibachi and other plates I've tried so I thought I should try the sushi. BIG mistake. After spending $60 on top of my $30 groupon I couldn't have been more let down. First off it took forrrrrever for us to get our appetizers, ok maybe not forever but a half hour. Ten minutes later my buddy got her sushi rolls (looking amazing!) My boyfriend and I received our rolls 30 minutes later I kid you not. So my friend is sitting there picking at her food not wanting to finish before we even receive our dinner. I could get over how long it took (even though it was a Tuesday night and there were maybe five other tables seated)...But when we got our rolls three out of the five were wrong. One was supposed to be tempura style but was just sea weed wrapped with nothing resembling tempura at all. The others were missing the eel and roe. If you're going to take an hour get it right! Not only was it wrong it looked like crap. The waiter did apologize a few times about the wait and stated it was his first night, was is the sushi makers first night too? I called and spoke the manager "Sing" the next day and he said he next time I come in to ask for him and he would "make up some rolls for us". I'm not sure what that entails but unfortunately I have the second groupon to use so I'm sure I'll find out. read more

Being originally from the Boston area I am picky when it comes to Chinese food. For some reason RI has awful Chinese food with the exception of Shanghai on Thayer Street. This restaurant is just minutes from RI but is edible. There was a 5 minute wait when we arrived so the kids helped themselves to the giant bowl of candy at the front next to the big golden fist pump kitty statue. We were seated within the 5 minutes and our server came right over. We ordered the basic pupu platter, chicken lo-mein, and pork fried rice. The service fast, the food came out hot and the restaurant was clean. The rice was good but my only complaint was that the pork a bit fatty. The drinks looked good but we were with kids so I didn't try. I'll have to go back sans kids for cocktails. read more

Went here tonight with my friend and their baby. Two other tables were seated and ALL had winter coats on. It was absolutely freezing in there, felt like we were eating outside. When asked about the heat, the server stated "that it's been broke since last year" like it was no big deal. I've been here two times with my boyfriend and his friend and his girlfriend, both times we did hibachi. The decor is very nice, modern asian fusion. We had the same waiter both times and he had a very bad memory and/or poor hearing skills. The hibachi chef even laughed at how poor his service was and gave us an appetizer on the house. The hibachi was okay, I got the garden delight with vegetables and tofu, it was alright, the flavoring was not the best. I had to add lots of hot sauce and soy sauce to make it taste better, the vegetables tasted way too sweet. The chef was very interactive, it depends on the person if you like that kind of thing. If I was to go there again, I would like to try something else besides the hibachi. I don't usually get hibachi so I cannot compare this place to much. Overall it was fun, the food was okay, and the waitstaff was slow and not exactly on the ball. A few of our plates were also oily and stuck with food remains. I suggest they wash their dishes a little more thoroughly. It was gross, but i got over it with a clean plate. read more

Love this place, food is always amazing, most of the time we do the hibachi ($$$$) not cheap but so yummy, I have to say- I go to hibachi a lot- not even interested in their little tricks because they are ALWAYS the same. Change it up please! Drinks are made very well, the jolly rancher martini is super strong, while the Mai tai is made perfectly. When we sit in the usual dining area the food never disappoints. Portions are pretty decent for the money and food is delicious. Try their egg rolls! I've heard that some people have gotten served underage here... I think they are cracking down on it though. This is my go-to Japanese spot. Not only because it is nearest to my house (and has a semi-secret parking lot), but because it comes closest to capturing the fantasy of going to Japan for a little while for a meal. The tiny quarters and decor really make you able to imagine you're in a little shop in Japan. They also have a number of traditional dishes that are hard to find on the menus of other places like their sukiyaki, and a number of very reasonably priced appetizers. I've tried to give Sakura multiple chances because the food has been good, however each time we order there is an issue. The first time we used the online ordering, went at the pick up time and nobody was there, myself and another customer waited ten minutes to be acknowledged, when I said I ordered online she went to look and no one had even checked online orders so they had not even began making our order that should have been done ten minutes prior. Food was good however, so we gave another try, this time we ordered hibachi and sushi, they did not include any of the hibachi sauces, nor chopsticks or soy for the sushi, when I called they offered to deliver it, I gave them the address and they never showed up, or called us, when I called back no answer.. won't try again, there are plenty of other good sushi/hibachi spots around with MUCH better service. read more
