Here's the thing: I am picky about sushi because I live in LA. I'm sure for St. George, this place is the best. I do have to say that the fish here for the sashimi was really fresh. Here are my gripes: the fish was cut way too thick for sashimi. The fish was fresh but it was weird biting into a piece of fish that was just too thick around. It made it way less enjoyable to eat. Especiaily the tuna. It was like biting into a piece of jerky. When I asked for a bowl of rice, they served Chinese long grain rice, not Japanese short grain rice. It was fine. Edible. But not ideal. The sushi rolls were good. I was so craving Asian food on my long road trip but I don't know if I'd come back here again. I'd probably just wait it out until I got back to LA. read more

Tried to eat here on a Friday night and it was packed (on our way to Brian head)....tried again on Saturday night....called to make a reservation and they said they don't take reservations Friday or Saturday....I would think it would be the opposite, you'd want to take reservations on your busiest nights. We opted for table service since it would be faster....why on earth was there a wait for a room that had 6 empty tables. If you know your busy on those nights then staff it. Ordered hibachi items, and ordered a side of fried rice. They never gave the original order of rice and the fried rice had absolutely no flavor. The food came out very cold. I had scallops and it made my stomach hurt so unbelievably bad. Waitress was not friendly. I don't know why this place had so many stars, obviously it's the only place around here to eat? read more

Never disappointed with this sushi and hibachi house!!! I've been here with my girlfriend four or five times now. Each time it reminds of why we love this place. Great food, great service and great atmosphere. We always get the Kani salad and cheese rolls along with some sushi rolls that are to die for. Place is clean, staff is super nice, sushi is delicious. Get the the geisha roll. Portions are decent. The hibachi shrimp was a little over cooked, I don't really care for the big calamari pieces(I like the small crunchy pieces), but the filet mignon was so tender and delicious. My 5 year old son loved the complimentary soup, geisha sushi roll, and shrimp tempura. He especially loved how the chef put on his little show and how he launched shrimp across the table and into his mouth. Lol read more

Best sushi in st George area... hands down. It may just be a 4 star in a bigger metro area, but for SG its top notch. Big rolls, fresh fish, awesome recipes. Family friendly. High end rolls priced at about 12-13 bucks which is a great deal. The riverside roll was awesome but they should've left more jalapeño seeds to give some kick. The hibachi side was packed. Glad I was able to get in and try their dinner service. As I was hoping, it is considerably better than the lunch, the review of which last time still applies. They do a great job with dinner and while they are far from competition from the hitters of Salt Lake, I'd put the odds-on for this place to be at least in the running for best restaurant in St. George, if not the best outright. Green tea is excellent. Appetizers badly need some work. I have yet to have any of those I'd want again and their tempura batter, while tasting in the ballpark, is executed poorly. As to the sushi, their smoked salmon is very nice, one of their specialty rolls, with a powdered(!) spice on it also very good and the other one I had (should probably have found my receipt with the names on them) was ok, but not worth ordering again. Their dessert tasted a lot like it was canned apples and canned blueberry compote, but was mostly acceptable, deep-fried, as it was, in the fluted skins they use for other items. Wouldn't get that again. Overall, this place is constantly busy and it's easy to see why. They are definitely heads and shoulders above nearly every other place I've been down there and as far as high end, this is probably it for the area. All in all, they deserve the push and bump in rating, having richly earned it. read more

Very enjoyable Japanese restaurant providing excellent service and food. Sakura has very fresh fish for sushi and sashimi. The sushi chefs slice very large pieces , and the presentation was beautiful. Our Sashimi arrived in a very attractive glass boat. The prices are very reasonable, the restaurant was very busy, and we never waited for anything. If visiting St. George, don't assume you can't satisfy your sushi craving while in Southern Utah. Duck curry: curry flavor good but duck doesn't taste fresh and is a little overcooked. Yaki soba with beef average, can't really mess noodles and beef up. Chicken udon good, but again it's something hard to mess. Caterpillar roll very flavorful, but not much eel in/on it. Red dragon roll with tuna and salmon was tasteless and did not taste fresh at all. Cucumber salad ok. Overall: food average; not worth coming back for. read more

We were staying at the Inn at Entrada in Saint George, Utah due to my wife's job for medical software sales. The location on the golf course with amazing sunsets will be highlighted in another review shortly. I was tasked with finding us a great restaurant for dinner after her long work day of meetings at the Dixie Regional Medical Center. Perusing Yelp, Sakura was the highest rated place for sushi and restaurant's overall so it was easy to talk my health conscientus partner into sushi for dinner. Also, she could have teppanyaki if she felt like changing her mind. We feasted, in fact, I ordered too much sushi and had to cancel the crunchy eel roll at the last minute. The meal began with miso and a house salad with their house made ginger dressing. We enjoyed the meal immensely. Great experience dining here! We recently stopped going to Tepanyaki and Benihana (Japanese steakhouses in SLC) due to unclean conditions and bad service. We were pleasantly surprised at Sakura. The wait staff was great and we could tell they really cared and loved working together to serve us! The food was delicious and the kitchen paid special attention to keep all of our food gluten free. First off the food here is amazing, so that's the two stars. The front staff could use some help though. A couple of weeks ago I called in the afternoon and made a reservation for 4 of us at 600. We knew we had kids to pick up at 730 so this would give us plenty of time. We go in right before 6 and one of the girls says it'll just be a minute, that they were cleaning off the table. 10 minutes goes by and we find out, "our table" isn't ready because there were still guests there. Annoyed, we called a neighbor to pick up the kids, since this is the only time the four of us get to see each other. Finally 25 minutes later they were really cleaning the table and we were seated almost a 1/2 after our reservation. I understand a couple of minutes, but we made the reservation for a reason. I know calling Sakura "the best sushi in Utah" probably doesn't inspire a lot of confidence, but it's also the best Sushi this side of the Bay area. It's by far the nicest restaurant in St. George, and the owners REALLY care about making it the best experience possible. This is our go to restaurant here in st George. The service is always great and the sushi is always fresh and delicious. We like the sashimi dinner. They give large portions of sashimi with the order and they serve it in a decorative fashion. My favorite sushi roll is the Tokyo roll. It's no longer on the menu, but we've been regulars for years and they still make it for us. I LOVE the onion soup too. We often will order the shrimp and mushrooms as an appetizer or the scallops and mushrooms, both are yummy. Our favorite waitress is "Sure" she is the best! We love it when we get her. When we bring the kids we often sit in the hibachi area. We love that they cook the food right in front of you and the chefs always make it fun for the kids with tricks and using the fire. This was great! Even though we had to wait about 45 minutes which is expected during peak dinner hours, they apologized for the wait and everyone was still nice and smiling. Best. Sushi. Ever! Seriously, I have eaten a lot of sushi in my life, granted I've never been to Asia but that's beside my point. This is the best sushi I have ever eaten. I went in with my daughter and we sat at the sushi bar and got three rolls to share and we were in complete food-coma heaven. After the first piece we both looked at each other wide eyed. Anyway, right now we have a Japanese exchange student staying with us and we took her with us to try this place and she said there miso soup was really tasty. She doesn't love American style sushi, but the rice and noodles were good enough for her. We also had mochi balls (it is a dessert like an ice cream ball that is wrapped or dipped in a gummy bear type texture). I eat here every time I come to St George. Being the creature of habit that I am, I always go at the same time--lunch--and I always get the same thing--hibachi steak with fried rice and the Vegas roll. Lunch is a great time to go because the food is almost half the dinner prices and the portions seem the same to me. Your hibachi chefs are usually better at dinner (in my experience) but otherwise lunch is the time to go. I can't vouch for many other things on the menu, but the hibachi steak and fried rice (make sure to ask for garlic on it) are the best! We came in at 9:00 PM on a Friday for sushi and were seated right away. The restaurant is very clean. There are two big TVs in the sushi dining area showing sports. We got 4 rolls for the two of us. The less expensive ones were the spider roll and the shrimp tempura roll. We thought they'd be the same size as the others just not as amazing but they are mostly less money because they are smaller. Kinda a bummer because they were small. Then we got a Vegas roll and the Yum Yum roll. Both were good with the Yum Yum being the best. The check was $40. It was good but not amazing. Probably would return but only to try different bigger rolls. read more
