Wet Bandana with pork and brisket. Wet describes it. The sauce is very sweet BBQ on garlic toast (perfectly grilled toast/btw). Next time I will go with the 2 meat platter, so I can taste the meat.. For chain bbq, Bandanas is one of the better places. Typical fare, but better than average quality. Plenty of smoke flavor in the meats, and multiple sauce choices, so good for most bbq fans (would say all, but no vinegar base sauce). read more

Right next to the hotel we stayed at. My kids demolished the Mac and cheese. They have about a million styles of sauces to choose from. Eating here made me realize how bad California BBQ is. This place has put so many california "premium" bbq spots to shame. It was actually quite unbelievable how good the BBQ was compared to California. I ordered the 3 combo plate (burnt ends, Brisket, pork ribs). They all were juicy, tender, and well seasoned. But the must try is the pork ribs. They are award winning for a reason. This place has 5 different bbq sauces at each table. Yes 5 distinct sauces) My favorite is the KC sauce. but to each their own. The sides i got were baked potato and mac and cheese. They are decent. Our server (guy with tied long hair) was amazing Very hospitable. The hostess was ok, she was not very enthusiastic however. Food came out on time also. The ambience of this place is what you expect a normal bbq spot in Missouri would be like. So I've heard about Bandana's from a couple people as far as barbecue in the Saint Joseph area. Got off work and walked over since they're in the same parking lot as the Drury inn and I believe owned by the same company or something like that. Either way you get 10% off if you say you're staying at the hotel. I got in before the dinner rush so service was pretty quick and my waitress was very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant itself is very clean and the food was Not bad. I've heard you really need to be in Kansas City to get the cream of the crop barbecue, but I thought this was good as is. read more

Service was really bad. We didn't get seated and were told it would be 30 minutes so we sat at the bar that was dirty. When one of the employees was asked to clean she complained. I feel like I just ate a bottle of sugar with chips. The tortilla chips were plain/bland chips. It looks better than it tasted. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich (adult) with a side of corn for $12. I also ordered a pulled pork sandwich (child) with a side of corn for $5. We I received the order, the child's sandwich actually had more meat than the adult sandwich. The only difference was that the child's sandwich was served with a sliced of toasted bread that was as big or bigger than the bun that came with the adult sandwich - other than that, they were identical! I pointed it out to the server and she acted like "that's just the way it is". This, combined with the fact that the food was unremarkable at best, led me to leave this review. We felt the need to sample barbecue ribs while traveling across the state on I-29. We stumbled across this BBQ gem and were totally satisfied. The meet was smoked to perfection. One of my favorite things about this restaurant was the six different sauces to try on your meat. All meats are served topless. My favorite is the Kansas City sauce. Located directly off of the interstate, this was super convenient. There's also plenty of room for parking - in fact, we were towing a trailer on this trip and found their lot easy to navigate and park in. Heading back to Omaha after a KC Chiefs football game. Went to Gates in KC but they were swamped so we headed to St. Joe to try Bandanas right off of the highway. The inside of Bandana's needs some updating. Ordered the two meat platters with brisket and sausage but they have already sold out of sausage at 5:28 pm. So ended up with the Brisket and shredded pork. The food came out relatively fast. The bread, coleslaw and the brisket was pretty good. The shredded pork was mushy and the fries were room temperature and felt like the sat under a heat lamp. I was disappointed with the spicy BBQ sauce. There was virtually not spicy heat to it, just really sweet. Overall, in my opinion it was just ok. I would rate it between two and three stars. Not fair to give it a two so will give it a three. Definitely not as good as Gates or many other KC locations. read more

Oh my Bar-B-Q! We were on a road trip across country and this was a great start right off the Interstate. When you are in Missouri you have to try smoked meats and ribs and that's what we did. This is a quaint and fun feeling place with ideas of what a cowboy should do with a bandana (see my photo). The menu has many smoked options from chicken, turkey, pork, and beef. I think our family tried all of them, and they were amazing. The smoky taste was so mouthwatering and juicy. It's exactly what I was hoping for tonight. You wouldn't know it just by looking at it (how good are restaurants next to hotels anyway?) but Bandana's has the best BBQ my family and I have had in a long time, if not ever. When traveling to KC I keep my eyes open for BBQ. We made it as far as St. Joe before spotting a BBQ joint called "Bandanas" where we stopped for a quick lunch. Located just off Interstate 29 at exit 47 this was a handy location and it showed based on the Saturday lunch crowd that included families, ladies meeting for appetizers, truck drivers and interstate travelers. We were greeted with ample parking and a friendly hostess who navigated us to an open booth. A rustic vibe with wash bucket lamp shades and bandana curtains appeared to be a nod to the city's status as a historic Pony Express stop. Menu options were printed on paper--possibly a carryover from COVID recommendations. I selected the 3 oz. pork budget buster with barbecue beans and fried okra while my lunch date ordered turkey with potato salad and his own side of beans. With a soda our $6.99 meals came in under $10 each. Six different varieties of BBQ sauce were available at the table. Both of our meats were juicy and good without sauce but I put a dab of each on my plate and liked the house sauce and sweet St. Louis sauces best. My husband opted for the KC variety. Our sides were good, nothing out of the ordinary, but the pork and turkey were the stars of the show. Juicy, flavorful and spot on seasoning. Our waitress, Turner, was efficient, checked on us frequently and offered to substitute our soda cups with "to go" cups as we finished up our meals. Restrooms were in need of attention, but I credit that to the busy lunch crowd. The bar has been set for our barbecue dining on this KC trip. Stay tuned! read more
