Awesome! New place in auburn with an intimate setting and fresh made-to-order rolls. I don't like sushi but to support my husband I try it. He loved it at Sakura Sushi. He got 3 rolls, including the special. I got a special roll with ingredients I like (tempura shrimp, cream cheese, green onion). And it was yummy. They don't skimp in ingredients here like other places do. Highly recommended. read more

Went here for the first time and it was amazing!! The service was awesome and the food was DELICIOUS!! All of the sushi we got was amazing and the orange at the end of of the meal was perfect instead of getting a peace of candy. Definitely a new favorite sushi spot in Auburn!! read more

I've been eating sashimi & sushi since 1973, when as a student in Boston, I stumbled in to Tatsukichi (now closed) and began a wonderful education. Having dined at fine sushi bars in Boston, New York & San Francisco, when I moved to Placer County 5 years ago, the quality I'm accustomed to was only previously found in Nevada City, at Sushi in the Raw. That is, until I strolled in to Sakura one August evening in 2019. Hank is a talented sushi chef and very warm person. Dish after dish blew me away, Toro, Sweet Shrimp, Giant Clam, Scallop, etc. I was so shocked by this amazing experience, that I returned the next night with my wife and returned weekly since. The rolls are also absolutely delicious. After searching for a quality sushi bar from Roseville to Grass Valley, I've discovered a true gem right here in Auburn. Thank you Hank for creating this refuge for those of us that know the difference. read more

My wife and I tried this one night even though it was a little out of the way. Came back for the second time tonight, and it's great! The chef prepares sushi the way it should be...not smothered in sauces, but just the right amount. Small and quaint. The fish is fresh and delicious. Give it a try! read more

My girlfriend and I went to Sakura sushi, hoping for a cheaper and good alternative to the two overpriced places in town. So disappointing. They blasted the oddest and most off putting foreign music, not being racist I love music of all backgrounds and cultures, but it was like yodeling and skatting and idk what else. There was no one else there at all besides what seemed to be the owner/sushi chef and our waitress. Service was pretty good (language barrier difficulties are to be expected at any sushi place but to have to explain an avocado allergy 4+ times is kind of ridiculous). We were also informed that dipping sauce was extra charge, which I've never heard of in a sushi restaurant. But then one of our rolls (the sweetheart roll) came out and the salmon inside tasted EXTREMELY fishy and had a mushy slimey texture that instantly gave me an ick face. On top of that, the roll had RAISINS?!? on it which were not listed anywhere on the menu or special board and I am allergic to, which I didn't think I would need to mention as it's not listed and WHO THE HELL PUTS RAISINS ON SUSHi. Our other two rolls were passable, nothing to write home about. But when we sent back the roll with what was obviously bad fish inside, the waitress proceeded to ARGUE with us about the quality of the fish. Even going as far as to bring us back some small pieces of "complementary" salmon sushi and insisting we try them to "taste the fish" which looked like the remnants of old fish, of which we of course refused. This was all made worse when it took the two other people in the entire restaurant 15+ minutes to run our card when we were trying to get the hell out of there, they made us go up to the counter to put in our PIN number which Ive never had to do at a sit down sushi restaurant. Don't go here, I have no idea where all these good reviews are coming from. Maybe we caught them on a really awful day? read more

They have only been open for a few weeks and we have already been there 3 times. The owner is fantastic and the service is great! My family highly recommends this place. The atmosphere is great as well. The Arizona roll is my all time favorite but there are many delicious choices. Thank God for a yummy sushi place that isn't too expensive in Auburn. read more

Wouldn't even honestly want to credit this restaurant with one star, very disappointing experience. Our first clue should have been that it was completely empty at 6pm on a Friday night. However we sat down and tried to order, but they were out of chicken teriyaki or any other meat option. We ended up getting the shrimp tempura dinner and were very confused by the three small pieces of melon that came with the dish...very unappetizing side that I have never before seen with a bento box. Also came with a minuscule salad and sorely undercooked rice...all together not worth the $16 for the meal. We also ordered a sushi roll that the menu stated came with crab on top and was served to us with mango on top and the serving size also definitely not worth the $12. This place is incredibly overrated and we regretted not going to another restaurant for our night out. You pay way too much for a disappointing meal and urge anyone to try other sushi places in town to save you the bill and unsatisfying food of Sushi Sakura. read more

One of the worst places I've ever been. The sushi was rancid and disgusting. The chicken was dry and unseasoned. The waitress was hovering and overbearing and they didn't even have a beverage foundation machine. They had me pour my own beverage when I was paying 2.99$ for it. I went in last night for dinner and sat at the bar. I read many reviews before going in and was concerned about the negative ones. I noticed they were mostly from out of towners and I know on Yelp they tend to be the most negative, so I asked a couple friends if they'd tried it out. They said positive things, so I went in for dinner. It was absolutely delicious. I had the Toro, the Auburn Roll, and they were so good that I ordered a special Sunset roll. The fish was great, the sauces just right -- not too much, not too little. The people next to me described it just as I was thinking-- delicious, clean and light. The seaweed salad was everything one could hope for. The beer was cold and the place was clean enough. It has a homey, family run feel. The hostess might forget a menu here or there, but the service was prompt and courteous. My old go-to place in town is closing, so this is my new favorite. I'm sure I'll go there again and again, and get take out too. The sushi chef is a quiet and courteous man who is very friendly and recognizes his regulars. I'm holding back one star just for a little bit of clutter in the front of the house and they could use a couple wines, especially a sauvignon blanc to go with the fish, but if you guys read this, don't get a crappy house wine, get something a notch up instead of something cheap. Ask your guests what wines they would like to see. I totally recommend this place to nice customers. read more

The service was fine and the employees were nice but the food was not great. Spicy California roll and vegetable tempura were OK but the chicken teriyaki and strawberry mochi were inedible. The chicken looked barely cooked but was still somehow dry and grainy. I'm not entirely convinced it was actually real chicken. My kid refused to eat it and it took all my willpower not to spit it out when I tried a bite. The outside of the mochi was so dry it broke open and had an odd taste; even my kids wouldn't eat the dessert. Would have loved to find a good sushi place close by but definitely won't be back. read more

Friendly, neighborhood Sushi restaurant. We stopped in for a quick dinner, ordering off the specials board. The staff was welcoming and attentive. The Sweet Heart roll was light, bright, fresh and delicious. The Nigiri we ordered was exceptional. Delicate fish with an interesting complex sauce. All of our orders came out quickly and beautifully presented. I wish we'd had more time, as everything we tried was remarkable. Pricing was fair. We will definitely be returning customers. read more
