Appetizer of tempura combo. Minuscule portion. 1 shrimp, 1 broccoli, 1 carrot slice, 1 potato slice, and 1 taro root slice. For 6.99! Tasted great, but way too small of a portion. Arizona and forever roll. Forever roll was about 3 inches in diameter, very difficult to fit in your mouth in 1 bite. Good quality ingredients, but both were covered in sriracha. Would've liked to see more tobiko or spicy mayo as topping rather than sriracha. Spicy tuna roll was rolled very loosely, and the tuna was very mushy-looked like it had been put in a blender on puree first. Chef sent out a complimentary roll-tasted very fishy, and I dont know what it was, but I'm guessing the stuff that was about to go bad and be thrown out. 2 people with no drinks was more than $40, and not the highest quality. I will probably give them another chance, as the choices for sushi in Auburn are limited, but hopefully they read this post and heed advice. read more

The rolls are just lighter and brighter with better quality fish. Very limited seating but they do takeout. Service was amazing, and sushi was fresh and delicious. Hank, the owner, was kind and welcoming. We tried some California rolls, a Rainbow Roll, and their Sakura Roll, and they were all very tasty. We arrived early on a June Saturday night, on our way to another event. When we got to the restaurant there was only one other table, so we felt pretty confident that we would be served quickly. NOT the case. We got our drinks as the restaurant filled up. Just about every table was served before us, including take-out orders. When our order FINALLY arrived (very sporadically) we were told that one of the items we ordered didn't actually exist? (We ordered from the menu . . . nothing fancy!) and the slop that were served actually cost $5 more than what was listed on the menu? What? What happened here???!!!! Part of our order was forgotten, and we had to question where it was. It came out quite a bit later. Our waitress was of no help whatsoever and did not seem to actually know what the restaurant served. Besides the "disaster roll" the rest of the sushi was just okay. This was not our experience in past visits . . . not the usual server maybe that made a difference? Whatever, hope things turn around if we ever go back. read more

This was our 2nd time eating here and it was awesome. The food was fresh and tasty. I had the Shrimp Lover's roll and my daughter had the Caterpillar. The caterpillar was shaped to resemble a caterpillar, so cute! Even though we had got there after closing time she seated us with a smile. This place is a little gem. Tucked away perfectly. It has a great ambiance and is very cleanly. We were greeted and our order was taken right away. Everything from our appetizer to the sushi was outstanding and the service was excellent too. We got the jalapeño bomb appetizer, Arizona roll, bom roll, and the Oregon roll which they substituted crab for spicy tuna. All were plated well and tasted even better. Do NOT eat at Sakura Sushi. Cockroaches!!! My boyfriend and I had read such amazing reviews on here and were so excited to try a few rolls. During our meal last night, I noticed what looked like a cockroach on the ground near my feet. I was hoping it was something else- telling myself maybe it was just a beetle. Then as we were about to pay, my boyfriend noticed a cockroach walking along the top of the booth RIGHT behind my head! The waitress didn't even seem surprised or phased at all. She asked if I was scared of bugs when I moved away from my it. My (brave) boyfriend trapped the roach under an empty glass, and the waitress grabbed the cockroach before I could take a picture as I had my phone out. Then she proceeded to tell us "sorry about that. Have a good night!" I will be contacting the department of health on Tuesday and would never eat at Sakura again. read more

This very small sushi restaurant has the best sushi in Auburn. It is always fresh and the salmon melts in your mouth. They have also always been willing to make a special roll for us (spicy shrimp & crab hand roll no rice). Prices are also very reasonable. We do mostly take out because it is a very small location but we are hoping locals will "discover" this gem and that they will be able to take on a larger location. This place is between my work and home. I've been a few times and really enjoyed it. I stick to the Caterpillar roll and Maguro. It's small and hasn't been open very long. The owner is making sushi. I went in one slow night and he was by himself so it took a little extra time but he gave me some little treats to keep me occupied. Nice guy, I hope he does well. read more

Meh. A couple of thing we had were good, everything else was just sub par. I wanted to give this place 2 stars, but it did have some redeeming qualities, barely bumping it up to 3. The service was great and quick... the food is another story. I enjoyed the seaweed salad. It came with daikon, radish, and carrots, which was a nice change from the usual. The JK roll wrapped in cucumber was pretty yummy too. The Hamachi Collars served a huge portion but way over cooked and too dry. The Seared Albacore was overly fishy and bland at the same time. The Monster roll was decent, nothing special though. Unfortunately, the bad outweighed the good in this case and will prevent us from giving it a second chance. read more

I ordered a bento box lunch special with chicken terriyaki, gyoza, and spicy tuna roll to sample a variety of what they had during my first visit. The soup, salad, and rice were all fine, but nothing was special about them. The gyoza were burnt black on one side while being raw and dripping in oil on another side, and the filling was extremely bland. The chicken was way overcooked and was bland as well. The highlight of the meal flavor wise was the roll, but even that was falling apart on the plate before I touched it. On top of this they billed me for items I did not order which I found odd considering I was there by myself for lunch and the restaurant was nearly empty. read more

Just went to this place for the first time last week with some friends. I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. While i got the Bento box which was the salmon sashimi, it was excellent as were the veg tempura. The tempura was battered lightly and very tasty. The Bento box is a good deal, however, I plan to try one of the sushi or sashimi offerings next time. The restaurant is clean and the owner is very nice and so are the servers.
