I stopped at Sakura Sushi House in Willows after a job interview. They are as surprised as you should be that I'd want to leave the coast, but I do. Then to try Sushi 90 minutes from Sacramento and 3.5 hrs from the coast. Adventure awaits. This is an absolute gem for anyone seeking a high quality dining experience. From the start, the visit is effortless thanks to the spectacular parking, which is a refreshing change of pace. Upon walking in, the amazing atmosphere immediately grabs your attention, featuring vibrant Japanese murals and a modern, polished look. The entire establishment is very clean, and the service is truly top rated, striking the perfect balance between professional and genuinely welcoming. The food is where this spot really shines, as everything served is very fresh and beautifully presented. The house salad is a crisp, refreshing way to begin, followed by hand rolls that showcase the kitchen's expertise. The Spider Hand Roll features perfectly prepared soft shell crab with excellent texture, while the Escolar Hand Roll is incredibly buttery and rich. I was staying in a motel nearby and didn't want to go out, so I did a DoorDash. The food came quick. I ordered a cup of the miso soup, and the mango lovers roll. in addition to the mango, it had shrimp, cream cheese, avocado, and sauce. The miso soup was very good, a little bit rich, but a bit salty for my taste. I know that is inherent to miso, but the miso I have had in the past have not been as salty. They must use a different type of miso, as there are many. The presentation on the roll lacked a little bit, but overall, it was good. I liked the shrimp, and all of the ingredients played well with each other. The mango gave it a little bit of a pop of sweetness. I'm not sure what the sauces were, but they were also very savory and went along well with the rest of the roll. The price is a bit on the higher end, but was reasonable for what I got. Chanced upon this place with my friend recently. We ended up getting a couple of bentos. Service was excellent. The wait staff kept checking in on us to make sure everything was taken care of. The food is pretty basic Japanese fare without too many surprises. The batter for our tempura was a bit heavier than we are used to but everything was fresh and pretty good. Teriyaki chicken looked pale but has a good char flavor and they were tender. The other stand out item was their pickled ginger. I think they must make them in house. Very fresh with good ginger spice. Flavor of the pickle juice was spot on. I'll come back to eat here just for this. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE AND SO SHOULD YOU! We have a sushi place in Willows and they hook it up for you! The fish is fresh with a vibrant color and great taste. It tastes even better knowing that you are supporting a local business and family. They are so friendly when you go in and they want to make sure you have a great experience with them. I always get the three item bento and they include the soup in the to-go which is amazing, their miso soup is so good! We always get a roll or two and some nigiri which is our favorite. They have specials sometimes too. We have stopped eating rice so we haven't been back in a little bit but I hope to go this weekend as I just seen them post that they have a rice-less roll. Perfect! Add some sashimi and miso soup and I will be a happy camper :) read more

Sakura Sushi House is one of those local spots that I'm genuinely glad we have in Willows. You wouldn't necessarily expect a small town to have a sushi place that can become one of your regular go-to options, but Sakura has managed to do exactly that. The sushi is always fresh, the rolls are put together well, and there's enough variety on the menu that I somehow convince myself I'm going to try something completely different every time, only to end up ordering at least one of my favorites again. The portions are good, everything comes out looking like somebody actually cared when they made it, and I've never left feeling like I didn't get my money's worth. The service has always been friendly and welcoming too, which makes a big difference in a smaller local restaurant. It's comfortable, casual, and doesn't try to turn eating sushi into some overly serious experience. You can come in, order way too many rolls because apparently everyone suddenly forgets how much food sushi actually is, and just enjoy yourself. I don't eat here constantly, but Sakura is definitely one of those places I'm happy to recommend when someone asks where to eat around Willows. Having good sushi this close to home beats driving all the way to Chico every time the craving hits. Five stars from me, and yes, I'll probably still order too much next time. read more

This is the cutest family-owned Japanese restaurant, right off the freeway! We found it by chance when driving from the Bay Area to Grant's Pass. The young waitress, Erin, was friendly and helpful. She regularly checked back to see if we needed anything like a refill on green tea. The miso soup was more flavorful and richer than any we'd had. The lunch combos were perfect! My husband got the 3-item and I got the 2-item, both generous, delicious, and visually attractive in their bento boxes. The sashimi and sushi fish was fresh and tasty. Visited July 5th..see my receipt. What a find in Willows! The reviews are spot on - great sushi! It is located off of highway 5 and behind Black Bear diner. Easy on and off the highway. I was traveling on my birthday and I wanted sushi! The roll I got had fresh tuna and avocado and it was a big portion! I am extremely picky about raw tuna and this was fresh! Great presentation! Of course I also had to get my edamame fix which were perfect ( some places put too much salt on theirs). These were just the way I like them! There is plenty of parking. The drive thru is not open yet. You can dine in and enjoy the nice air conditioning or also do take out. Bathrooms were sparkling clean as well as the restaurant itself. Owner (juan i think) and his staff are super friendly and pleasant! I also got a complementary green tea ice cream for my birthday! Lovely food and i will definitely be back! read more

o ordered the chicken Udon Soup. it was very expensive $19.49. I love Won Tin soup but neither Chinese restaurants deliver so I thought this soup would be okay. the broth tasted different but it was okay but there was hardly any noidles in it or chicken. there was two very small pieces of chicken and about four noodles. there was one piece of carrot but plentbof onion. it was basically an onion soup with broth. I paid almost $20 for broth. there was about 1/4 of noodles and chicken. total rip off. once again almost $20 for nothing but broth. if you look closely at the photo you can see at the bottom of the captainer the little bit off noodles and chicken that was in the captained. such a rip off. not worth the money at all. This is by far the best Susi I've ever had. They have options I've never seen elsewhere and I can't begin to say how tasty the food is. To top it off, the owner Kim I meet was so very kind, and her staff was just as nice. I sure wish this place was located near I live. Ambiance was ok but the food.it was all very very high quality and fresh. If this place was near us it would be our go to sushi. The food here is delicious and the service is awesome! I believe her name is Kim, but she checks in periodically how the food is/if you need refills, very interactive. This visit we got to try some of the chefs spicy sauces. I want to say we tried 6 different spice levels and they were all so good in their own way. Not just in the spice level but the flavor profile was slightly different for each one as well. I purchased two, level 5 and level 6 ( I don't know if that's what they call it. But those were the spiciest and the last ones brought out to taste test.) Such a cool and tasty experience to be a part of. We also bought a cute shirt from there. I loved everything at this restaurant! From the wide selection of food to drinks and even amazing friendly service. The setting was cozy and warming, and super comfortable. The staff was attentive and held awesome conversation. I tried the vegetable tempura and spicy garlic edamame for an appetizer! Loved it. However the edamame is SUPER spicy so if you can't handle hit maybe don't get it spicy. My main entree was the pick two Bento plate. What was cool about the choice is you pick certain sushi choices to be a pick. Perfect of you don't want a big roll. I picked the beef teriyaki and tonkatsu. I absolutely loved the house dressing that is put on the salad, which had a sweet but ginger flavor to it. I did suggest to possible add panko to the top of the salad. Lastly. I'm a mochi fan so I was excited to see it as dessert because it's perfect for ending a huge meal. I stuck to traditional strawberry and chocolate. Oh. And they have plum wine! And a variety of other wines and sake available!!! The best part was the friendly staff. They were absolutely adorable and made sure each guest had full attentive service and delicious food.
