The pizza is mediocre. It's greasy, floppy, and has no backbone. The ice cream is a nice treat though; they have a large variety of flavors. Plenty of seating and they have a bar area. Horrible experience!!!! When I checked in for a big party I spoke to the hostess and on the iPad it said 15-25 minutes which she confirmed was correct. I came in 25 minutes later and asked how much longer and she said another 30-45 minutes on top of my wait time. She proceeds to tell me there was nothing she could do about it instead of apologizing. Don't come here. We came here because we were coming from out of town for an event and were looking at places to eat the order was supposed to be ready at 7:20 for to go I asked 3 different employees to check on it to which they all told me it wasn't ready. I didn't get the food until 7:50 30 minutes after it was supposed to be ready and over an hour after I put in the order the employees at the to go were all standing around and not checking. Finally when I asked the 4th time they checked and I got the food and it was cold as if it had been sitting there waiting around for 10-15 minutes at least no one checking no one asking no nothing. This is an OK spot to grab a pizza or a dessert. There are many pizza choices, but I thought lectin flavor and pizza was undercooked. I had placed this as a to go order so it's not at the restaurant to have them cook it more. Portion sizes are decent, a good place to take the family and share a meal. read more

Service terrible. 30 minute wait for a table, then waited 15 mins at the table for a server. Spinach/Artichoke dip was like 95% cheese, and lukewarm. We ended up peeling the top layer of cheese off like a lid and scraping the remains with our rock hard crostini. Marinara was overly sweet and the meatball sub/chicken parm was Sysco quality. I had limited myself to pizza here before today, which was good. After today IF I return it will be for pizza. My service was good from Ben. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana and in anticipation of good food ordered the dinner portion. The slices of eggplant were at least 1/2 inch thick. They had been obviously precooked with most overcooked around the edges adding to the bitter taste, and what ultimately took me out - the TOUGHEST eggplant I have ever encountered. It was impossible to cut with fork, and nearly too tough for the butter knife provided. I even dismantled it and tried to remove the skin, but alas, not much better. Uniquely it was served over a generous portion of Spaghetti with what I can only assume was supposed to be Alfredo sauce. The pasta was also tough and there was so little sauce it did nothing to moisturize the overly dry pasta. This was without a doubt one of the worst dining experiences I have had in a long long time. Hands down my favorite family friendly restaurant in Jackson! The pasta, paninis, and pizzas cannot be beat. I love to go here with my family or with my adult friends. This is my go to pizza spot for food, customer service and atmosphere. The location is great too and it makes it easy for any amount of time you have to wait to be seated. I love every single thing about the Sal & Mookie's location in the Eastover District. The bar is nice, the outdoor seating by the fountain is very nice. The ice cream parlor has something for everybody. I decided to take my girlfriend on her first trip to Sal & Mookies as she is from another state. She loved it also. We got the large order of Chipotle BBQ wings and a large Zydeco pizza. Both are beyond delicious. The wings didn't even have a bbq taste, they were great and weren't too spicy, perfect to be honest. The Zydeco pizza was super tasty with the crawfish, Cajun seasonings and crawfish. The ice cream was a game changer also, I got cake batter with strawberry toppings. This place had been recommended by family. Don't get me wrong, the ice cream was good, perhaps at some point I'll brave it again to try the pizza, but the rude and complete lack of service overshadowed all the rest of the experience. My best friend, her kids, my cousins, aunt and I went on the evening of Wednesday, January 4 because it was my last night in town visiting. We only wanted ice cream and, so far as I can tell online and in the menu, no where are we only allowed seating if getting pizza. But when we asked about seating for ice cream were told a different story by each of the three young women behind the ice cream counter. We could only get patio seating if getting ice cream. We needed to be placed on the seating list (yes of course, please do that, then they didn't). They'd get us a table when they could. After getting ice cream and patiently waiting, and then asking about the table (my aunt is 90 after all and outside was cold) and getting snapped at, we finally just went and sat at an empty table by the bar since it was evident they were refusing to seat us for no reason other than we weren't ordering pizza. Pizza here is excellent but can get super pricey if you get one of the specialty ones and start adding all the sides (like goat cheese, for example). Mmm! There's a bar to the left which is the chill zone without kids. There's a large dining room and outdoor seating to the right. The icecream bar is to the right too! I don't like it's placement because you have to go far inside the restaurant even if you just want to grab a cone to go. The staff here is kind, and the place is good for many events...
