The absolute worst service I have ever experienced anywhere! Our server never brought my beverage even though I asked twice, my husband had to go to the bar and order it there for me. I watched the family next to me get the wrong pizza then the server argued that's what they ordered when it was not, then she never brought the correct pizza, then she charged them for the wrong pizza that they did not eat! They had to ask for manager to have it removed from the bill, she would not do it! She never ever checked on us, she was very rude when she took our order, which was the only time we saw her. The whole atmosphere in the place has taken a turn for the worse. It's quite sad, we used to love Sal and Mookies! We ate at the one in Jackson, MS instead of the one in Biloxi where we usually go. While the pizza was still good, the service and atmosphere was disappointing. The staff didn't seem interested in being there and the whole feeling was just "blah" through the whole place. Now that I have been to all of the obvious places on my Jackson Top 10 burger list, I am now running around hitting the outliers that folks tell me about that are "really great" This week's stop was Sal and Mookies.....yep, the pizza joint in Fondren. The menu has 7 custom burgers on it. I has an inside tip that the Satriale's burger was seriously good. "75% ground chuck & 25% hot Italian sausage ( 1/2 lb total), flat-top grilled and topped with prosciutto, Provolone, and sautéed onions & peppers $9.95" Since it has the pork in it, they will only cook it "done" so don't ask. Other than the fact that it was a bit dry from the "done" temperature, it was a really good burger. The flavor of the patty with the sausage mix is really good. The bun was good. Not sweet, plenty moist. I liked the fact that I could substitute a Caesar for fries at no extra cost. I have been there quite a few times for Pizza and I always left feeling like I was a bit overcharged for what I got. I think the burger and salad are a great value. The pizza was great, but as a pizza lover it wasn't as great as I was told it was going to be. It was really greasy. I love chucks of meat as much as the next carnivore but these were almost too big. I'll stick to the Mighty Meaty from Mellow Mushroom, whole pieces of bacon have my heart. Also, the spinach and artichoke dip had huge chunks of artichoke in it which made it kind of unbearable. Yummy yummy and YUMMMY! Wow, they have some really good pizzas and ice cream. I haven't eaten carrot cake ice cream before in my life til I tried it here. It is wowing good and over the top. Co owner responded to a concern I had expressed in an earlier review. The fact that he responded was enough for me to delete the review. The food has always been good, but the pandemic has caused havoc for lots of restaurants in retaining experienced employees. I will continue eating at Sal and Mookies because it really is good food. Enjoyed a nice evening with friends tonight at Sal & Mookie's. After a 20 minute wait for a table, which is pretty normal on a Friday night, we were seated in the side room, in a corner table... honestly, not the best spot for dinner. However, the table wasn't the priority, as a nice dinner with great friends was more important. I ordered my usual Meat Packing District Stromboli, which is great, and always more than I should eat in one seating. The service was great, as usual. The shrimp seafood seaport is so freaking good..we did half seafood seaport and half johns bleeker..the johns bleeker was not my favorite..the tomatoes were too big and they put way too many caramelized onions on the pizza..I also ordered a pecan bar aka mode for dessert..it was so good it tasted like pecan pie and I had one scoop of ice cream in top!..my husband ordered a Reese's peanut butter milkshake..I didn't really care for it because I am a milkshake fanatic and this milkshake was basic..they put Reese's puffs cereal in the milkshake.. read more

If it's New York style pie you are seeking this is the joint. We came for lunch on a Tuesday and was happy to see there was a lunch special. A slice and a side for $5.50 is a good deal. We both had the "park avenue" slice with a side salad. The other option was a beer cheese soup(yes I said beer and cheese!) which looked delicious. Slices are thin and flavorful topped with pepperoni mozzarella and clumps of ricotta. The only disappointment was that the salad shared the same plate and arrived warm. Green goddess dressing was cool, tangy, and garlicky. Washing it all down was the ubiquitous southern sweet tea, which was perfect! I felt compelled to try the ice cream(just so I could report of course) and settled on the pecan bar sundae. I switched it up a bit and replaced the customary vanilla with praline ice cream. This pair was topped with hot fudge and mounded with fresh whipped cream. Ice cream was good, but the bar had an off flavor I could not place, and chalked it up to maybe day-old baked goods? My daughter and I were in town for a tennis tournament and went here after a long weekend of playing tennis in very high temperatures! The food was so TASTY! We had the fried ravioli, black and bleu burger, and the Rockaway beach Stromboli! Our server, Zale, was so attentive and so kind. They even made a special smore shake for my daughter! The cookie and the smore were still warm! Since it was originally on the menu as a sundae, but we wanted it to go, they made the shake especially for her. But what I want everyone to understand, sometimes restaurants have off days. The best part of this particular off day, the owner had staff reach out to me to make it right. Eat here! Eat here! My family and I are thoroughly pleased with the customer service and taste of food. The food is amazing! We loved the wings and the gorgonzola sauce used for them. Then the sweet tea. It is so hard to please me on sweet tea that I always tell people unsweetened so I can sweeten it up. Man am I glad that I didn't do it here. The tea was sweetened to perfection. Sal & Mookies is not what it was. Today we went, the bottom crust of our pizza was burnt, there was no sauce and very little cheese on our pizza. We are from New York. So we are very critical on pizza. But we have to give credit where credit is due. This is about as good as you will get in MS. Delicious! This is my favorite pizza I've had in Jackson. The crust is a perfect combo of thin and chewy with a good crispy crust that tastes buttery. We made our own pizza with pepperoni and ricotta. The 14" is a huge serving and I think could easily feed 4 with a side salad or something. Friendly service. Tons of seating for big groups.
