    Fish and chips

Stopped at Sal De Mar while going antiquing up the Oregon Coast. Food was fresh and delicious! Service was prompt and friendly. We tried the special aguachile rojo, special Og bob sando, and fish and chips. All the sauces had great unique flavor. Would definitely come again

Absolutely delicious food. We live in Newport and this is our favorite lunch spot - the ceviche and fish stew are our favorites as locals.

So if you're already in the area, it would definitely be worth a stop by. We went early, around 5PM on a Friday and it was relatively busy, but as we were leaving it definitely exploded. The staff were super friendly and very attentive. Food is very reasonably priced. My wife and I both had the captains portion of fish and chips with a calamari appetizer. Honestly i think the calamari stood out more than the fish and chips. very light batter, not chewy at all and they pair it with both a ranch style sauce as well as a sweet citrus sauce which was unique. Fish and chips was good too, fish was nice the flaky, very moist, and the batter wasn't too thick either. It is a cornmeal batter compared to a beer batter, so i know some people have preferences one way or another.

We were here for our grand-daughter's wedding and were watching her dog. We called to make sure that they could accommodate a party of 4 with a dog, and we were told "Yes." We arrived for an early dinner around 4:00 PM. The restaurant was practically empty. When I said that we were a party of 4 with a dog and that I had called and was told it would be okay, I got a look of surprise form the hostess and she walked away. After a few minutes, she came back and told us to walk around the outside of the restaurant and come to the side, which we did. This was a semi-enclosed area. She at first wanted to seat us close to the trash bins that smelled like fish garbage, so we asked to be moved up closer to the front windows, which they did. She placed 4 menus on the table with 4 napkins, 4 knives, and 2 forks. We had to ask for 2 more forks and they brought 4 - duh! The server came over and brought 3 waters with ice and one with no ice - go figure! She asked if we were ready to order. We said "No," as we had just sat down. She took our drink orders which she managed to get wrong. We only ordered two drinks. A beer for my son-in- law and a Canadian Club Whiskey on the rocks - single serving, for my husband. She brought him the drink straight up - he had to ask for the ice to put in his drink. We then placed our dinner orders. They were out of oysters so that we could not order any of the dishes on the menu with oysters. We started with two cups and a bowl of Gino's Homemade Clam Chowder. We all enjoyed the soup very much. My husband and I decided to share the Pan Seared Rockfish and told the server that we would be sharing and requested another plate. The menu described it as pan seared rockfish topped with fresh fennel and honey mustard vinaigrette served with spinach creamy risotto and sauteed seasonal vegetables. They forgot to bring the extra plate, so we had to ask for it again. The other entrees were the Rockfish Fish 'n Chips and the Crew Share which was two pieces of halibut, two prawns, two scallops, and two small oysters with chips and Cole slaw. We had to ask for more water, which never came. They paid no attention to details. The food was enjoyable. The service was terrible. All in all, it was pricey in our book and just okay! There are far too many restaurants in Newport to choose from - go elsewhere!

Besides the view the food is exceptionally fresh and delicious, I ordered the New Seafood platter so I could try a lot of different items on the menu. The chilled Dungeness crab was very good and tasty. No need to add anything! The fresh shucked oysters were tasty and fresh and clean. The crab dip was exceptionally good with chucks of crab meat to eat with the fried won ton chips & crackers. The ceviche was okay and also the spicy shrimp salad. The clam chowder was very good and flavorful and it was okay on the thicker side, came out nice and hot not warm. My wife had the Halibut & garlic fries which the French fries were very tasty and crispy and the halibut was great with a lightly breaded batter. Service was great and waiter was friendly Restroom they have 1 on the 1st floor and another one on the 2nd floor to be shared by both men & women. Restroom was clean only thing with the amount of customers they can accommodate you most likely have to wait to use the restroom. Entrance is about 4 steps to enter with hand rail on one side, did not see a wheelchair accessible ramp. Pets are allowed. We saw couple of retrievers seating outside with their owners.

First, it was noticed that you are no longer able to make reservations unless it is a party of 7 or more. That was unusual and thought the cause sure to peak summer travel. Secondly, there was no bread service, initially mistaken as an oversight then realized it was no longer offered. Third, the appetizer always ordered the seafood fondue was cool. In the past, it was piping hot served in a chafing style manner. While the chafing was there, in no way was that to get it to a piping hot temperature as served previously. Lastly, the dessert, again a staple when at Georgie's the Marionberry cobbler changed from previous offerings. Overall, Georgie's has a special place, however, the changes concern the level of quality menu items. I hope this feedback helps as Georgie's has been a gem for years and one of a kind on the coast. it would be very disappointing to see a downward level of food quality and service. The views are amazing; however, it did not pair with quality food and great service it would be no different than any other locale with ocean views.
