Counter service was friendly, and the food came out quickly. There are a few booths for dine-in, or you can take your order to go. The space is dark but open-air, letting in a nice ocean breeze. They also serve Tillamook ice cream, which is a nice touch. I ordered the chicken tender kids meal and the shrimp and potato-on-a-stick combo. Unfortunately, the food was far too greasy to enjoy. First off, their staff is incredibly friendly and kind! You felt welcomed as soon as you came in, with friendly small talk and a smile. We honestly walked in looking for ice cream, when the smells hit us we decided to sit down for lunch. They only had a couple booths, but they were clean and there was not a lot of people inside. As a person who doesn't like fish, I was so so happy that there was no fishy smells despite having it on their menu. We sat down, filled our drink cups at the self serve fountain, and used their incredibly clean restroom. We quickly got our food and we're in awe of the size of the chicken tenders! We honestly could have shared a meal. They were hot and fresh, with just the right amount of breading and great fries. I don't know what some folks expect, but I am a very picky eater and Sticks impressed me tonight. My wife swlwcted the shrimp basket and I had the salmon po'boy. The shrimp was jumbo sized and tasty, with a nice creole and tartar sauce. The salmon was deep fried, yet very tasty, and the portion was almost too large. The amount of fries were a bit overboard. But, unlike some, I am absolutely impressed that they use paper based takeout containers instead of Styrofoam or crackle plastic ones. Paper is a renewable resource, ya know. The Ling & chips were so good we went back 3 more times (closed 2X) during our week on the coast. During the winter they are only open Thursday-Sunday 12-7. The beer batter is light and the flavor of the fish is fresh and delicious. The fries are good too. Bring your appetite, the servings are enough to share. We split one for lunch and we each had 3 pieces of fish and plenty of fries that we didn't finish them all. There's only a few booths, so limited seating but worth it. read more

My wife and I are frequent visitors to the central coast and we're always seeking out the best places for fish and chips. We're in Depoe Bay for the holidays so we gave The Sticks a try. Everything here is self-serve, yet still the surly gal behind the counter solicits tips before even preparing the food. And if you dare offer any suggestions like maybe don't overcook the fish, you get a face full of foul mouthed insults. This person seriously has no business working anywhere near the general public. Everything is served in disposable takeout boxes - even if you are dining in the restaurant. Wow! It's like they actually go out of their way to increase their carbon footprint, while reducing their indoor dining experience to plastic forks and knives, paper and plastic cups and single-use 'dinner plates'. This alone is reason enough to steer clear of them but it gets worse - much worse. Fish and chips were ready in about 15 minutes. Fish is cut into smaller bits than most places (a 5 piece here would be a 3 piece anywhere else) accompanied by a generous portion of fries. But the good news stops there. The fish was tough and chewy with a fishy aftertaste; the beer batter was greasy and soggy. I'm talking zero crunch - even before adding the malt vinegar. I suspect both the fish and the oil were well beyond their expiration dates. The fries were barely warm, limp and soggy. The restaurant overall was dirty, with a greasy film covering everything, from the table to the floor to the bathrooms. 2-3 bites was enough for us. Both orders went straight into the dumpster and we left hungry, in search of a decent restaurant. Needless to say, we will never return and I strongly advise others to seek their fish and chips elsewhere. read more

It looked super welcoming with an open door, nice decor and a friendly dude up front. We went with the shrimp po boy and the fish and chips. I wasn't expecting the portions to be that big but can't complain. The po boy was everything I hoped for and brought me back to my time in NOLA. Full of flavor and a nice crunch; the sauce in the side was absolutely amazing and had a great amount of heat. Fries crispy, warm and soft. The fish was breaded absolutely perfect and oh so flaky. While eating at The Sticks Restaurant, we did not have a good experience there. It started when we were asked to leave a gratuity when we ordered. I did not particularly appreciate going a compensation when we hadn't even been seated or given a "Glass" of water. Moments later, we were told by the cashier that if we wanted water, we could get it from the soda machine in the cardboard cups next to it. So, we served ourselves. We both ordered Chowder, one cup, and one bowl. As you can see in the attached photo, they came in cardboard cups. The larger one is their bowl. I asked the waitress, are you serious? That's not more than an ounce or two more than the cup! A little later, our meals were delivered in cardboard to-go containers. I commented on them; how did they know that we might need a container to go ahead of time? I knew then that this was not my expatriation of going to a restaurant and not a take-out place. We were never asked if we would like to dine in or get take-out. Eating in, I fully expected to have standard plates, silverware, etc. Unfortunately, the fish-n-chips were overcooked in well-used oil. As you can see in the photos, the Fish and the Frys were dark, not light, and fluffy, as expected. We attempted to eat the food, but both of us could not finish it as the flavor was not good either. The owner came out to see how everything was when she saw that we had stopped eating. She was also the cook, as it turned out. I, with respect, told her that we were not pleased with the food, the take-out containers and forks/knives, glasses of water, and the greatly under-sized bowl of Chowder. She was sorry to hear all this and offered me an ice cream cone to please me. She did later offer not to charge me for the meals, but I told her thanks, but I came in here intending to pay for my dinner, and I will. We explained that we had expected to be served with regular restaurant plating and silverware. At the Cash-register, we should have been informed that this would be served as a Take-Out! When we arrived in Depot Bay, we parked; we walked down the street to The Spick Restaurant, passing several other restaurants; a couple had signs that their food was Take-Out. I am leaving a slightly higher review than I should have because she did attempt to please me and make it right. As a fell business owner, I would like to see her maybe reevaluate how she is doing business without adequately informing their customers up front that there will be no service and it will be served as Take-Out. With a garbage can next to our table, we also bused our dirty containers as we left. read more

We are so excited we stopped here on the way to Otter Rock. A small little restaurant off the Oregon Coast Highway in Depoe Bay. We had the cod fish and chips, shrimp po boy, and a chip of the chowder. *This review is for the Shrimp Po Boy Probably the best shrimp po boy I've ever had. Perfectly fried crispy shrimp. Excellent bread with crisp crunchy exterior toast with a fluffy interior stuffed with a healthy amount of shrimp and a side of hot sauce to dip it all in. The fries were not overly battered. The food is so good that we came back the next day! Superb clam chowder with a delicious special ingredient. (Is it chorizo?) We ordered all the fish baskets, and the halibut and cod tied for first with the shrimp and salmon a close second and third. The tartar sauce was heavy on the dill (my favorite). The batter and crunch on the fish was sublime with the fish cooked to perfection. The chips were good too! The potato on a stick was a bit well done, but my husband loved it. And we can't possibly forget get to mention their fabulous, helpful, and friendly staff. This is must try when in Depoe Bay, OR. Like any fish and chips you purchase, it's all about freshness of the fish. Rule number one, rule number two, eat asap.. don't pick it up and take it on a 5 mile hike then take it home and expect to not taste like a wet sponge. I personally love their Cod fish over the other choices, to me it has much more flavor, especially at the Oregon coast. The chips or "freedom fries" are really good here, again don't leave them sitting too long before jammin them in your grill. The price is what the market can bear, it is what it is, but this can easily be shared. I do also want to mention the clam chowder, I think it has turmeric in it? but it was actually really good, different, but a pleasant surprise. All and all, yes I would return when in Depoe Bay. I would order the fish and chips for two and two clam chowders with bread and walk across the street and watch the whales.. awww perfect day awaits you. read more

Very clean restaurant. It was a cold, rainy Monday at 3pm and the place was pretty empty which was nice. Our food came out fast and hot! Everything was great, crispiest fries I think I've ever had. I've never been a fan of tartar sauce but theirs was really good! We all got plenty of fries but I only had like 6 small pieces of cod. Not the best deal for $14. My only real complaint was that my cod was really greasy. I didn't notice my friends meals being overly greasy, just the cod. Now, I have sort of a steel gut lol so I don't often get stomach aches from fried foods. But wow...later in the night I had some insane acid reflux and stomach pains. But this place was good enough that I would still go back, I just might skip the cod next time... EDIT: Well, after spending most of the night in the bathroom, I'm concerned that maybe they're using old oil or something? I don't think it was intense enough to have been food poisoning but something did not sit right with me. It's weird to me because I've never had this bad of a reaction to greasy food so it must have been VERY greasy is all I can think. Stopped by The Sticks while exploring Depoe Bay for the first time and wow just amazing! We stopped by for some fish and sticks with some friends which were incredible. We got an order of the Halibut and the Cod which were both great but the Halibut was outstanding! The service was pretty fast for a busy spot.
