The place to go for delicious salads and soups. Once one of many restaurants, somehow this is the only one that survives. Friendly service is a great plus. What a variety of freshly made salads and usually at least 6 or more soups to choose from. This casual spot fills up at lunchtime, many people catching a bite to eat from nearby St Charles. I've not been to a Salad Galley since the old Westgate days. I kind of knew the one on Navarre exists, but I always forget about it. I was out there the other day and made a mental note to remember it and alas, went for lunch today. I had the Betty's salad with a fried bologna sandwich combo. With a small fountain drink, it was $12 bucks and change. GREAT DEAL! The salad had fresh spinach, bacon, egg, lots of bean sprouts, onion, all the good things Betty's salad should have. The Betty's dressing was great too. The fried bologna... OK, not exactly gourmet, but definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. If this sandwich is on the menu, I have to try it! Their version of this is really great. Your choice of bread (sour dough, white, rye, wheat, etc). It comes with lots of bologna and cheese with your choice of toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, etc). Not as great as G & R Tavern in Waldo (seriously, fried bologna or sandwich spread lovers - you need to go), but a very generous, well-made sandwich. At one time there were salad galleys all over the Toledo area. This is the last one left and I don't know why. The soups and salads are top notch. You can get two giant salads for under ten bucks. I chose the tuna pasta salad and Betty's salad. Pro tip is to get one of the pasta salads as a choice because you will have to take some home. The pasta is great the second day. I also added a cup of soup. The service is always quick and friendly. Its cafeteria style, so you pick out what you want as you move down the line, the interior is a bit early 90's and could use a refresh, or they can just wait a few more years until it becomes vintage. I have eaten here in the past and the food was pretty good. This last time here though the fruit salad was almost all apple with very little other fruit. The broccoli salad was pretty good though. Had the soup and salad combo and there were tons of selections for both. I had the southwest chicken salad which was very fresh and the clam chowder. Soup didn't necessarily taste homemade but wasn't bad. Longest part was waiting to check out which did take quite a while. Underwhelmed. I was really excited to see this after a long drive because I did not want fast food. I convinced my colleagues to try it out and unfortunately it was kind of a bust. For a place named salad galley I thought they'd have some great well crafted lettuce based salads. It's actually a lot of pasta salads. And the lettuce salads are iceberg. All pre made. You walk up to the line and can see all the salads and they dish it out like at a cafeteria. They have soups and sandwiches as well. I got a chef salad with Dijon vinaigrette. It was literally just mustard. I ended up asking for balsamic instead which was pretty good. But the salad was worse than one from a fast food restaurant. Just boring. I also tried the chicken and dumpling soup and that was good. My coworkers got sandwiches which they weren't thrilled with. One had stale bread. The other- pulled pork- was bland and dry. read more

I go to Salad Galley for the healthy options and wide variety! When you first walk-in, you don't think the place is "made of much" ..simple dining area, single bathroom in the back corner(very clean), plasticware station at the end-next to the soda machine/cash register. I started going here again when Subway chains became so disappointing... Because the ordering style is very similar : First you'll see a display of their Leafy salads followed by their choices of Pasta salads. On down the line, there is an array of Hot and Cold Sandwiches that are made to order! Soups of the day, Cold Beverages and the BROWNIES! are to die for. (more delicacy than gas station brownie..) Just sayin' ;) I highly recommend travelling out here to try them, I always leave with left-overs! When I was addressing my concerns with him he announced to me that he was the owners grandson...(so I guess that makes it OK to be rude). I work with my dad and when we want to grab a quick lunch, we go to Salad Galley. They have almost a dozen salads to choose from. I like the strawberry spinach and Betty salads. The pasta salads are totally yummy, too, but too rich to get often. I like the chicken noodle soup (it's pretty standard) and cornbread, too. The combos are huge and cheap! I haven't tried any of the sandwiches because I am hooked on those salads! read more
