Burgers were cooked perfectly and the fries were nice and hot. Only complaint about the food is their choice of 'plates'. Everything is served on these tiny aluminum trays. Not only does it give you a cafeteria vibe, but they simply aren't practical. I took the lettuce off my burger and the only place I could put it was on the table. Draft beers were very good. Fresh and cold. Can tell they keep their beer lines clean. Server was quirky but friendly and efficient. From what I could tell, the whole staff seemed to be really hustling on a very crowded night. Only issue of the night was the check. Our food and drink total was $117 (pre-tax). However, the bill had it as $125 - without explanation. We of course called it out and after some discernment in the kitchen the server comes back to tell us that the $8 difference was for the mushrooms and onions we added to our burgers. Umm, ok. But why no line item showing that? He couldn't really answer that. Am I the first one that this ever happened to or just the first one to call it out? Boy was I wrong. Even with only 6 people in the store my Bacon and Tomato toast and coffee took 25 minutes. When I got my iced vanilla latte it was so bitter I had to take it to the stand to tinker it to my liking. My toast on the other hand was a complete letdown. The bread was soggy, bacon cold, and arugula wilted. While I do have to give the barrel props on its ambiance, music, and location (as it is in the heart of my childhood hometown) I do recommend scanning over ingredients to make sure they are at the peak freshness, stocking the fridge with more grab and goes (maybe some pasta salad, wraps, or even sandwiches). I look forward to reviewing the barrel again and hope I can see improvements!
