Friendly service and decent salads. Not a sweet greens or anything but salads are solid. I added bacon to my chicken Caesar and enjoyed it. But what really has me here making this review is the staff- shoutout to the employees working, you guys handled yourselves SO well today. You see, there was an incredibly rude customer behind me who wouldn't get off his phone to order( and had it so loud I could hear both ends of the conversation) and started treating the employee who was helping him badly because of his lack of attention. She was so patient with him, even when he was being such an entitled jerk to her. Another employee had to step in and his patience with explaining the menu to this customer was above reproach. the salad was good and the greens were fresh and perky which i always appreciate. the turkey sandwich was meh...something i could have made for myself at home. one slice of deli meat, two small slices of bacon, very little avo...expected an uber sandwich for the price. the plug in air freshener was killing us. like sniffing dryer sheets. why a plug in air freshener? the place was clean and the staff accommodating. bathroom needs a better sanitation system. when you wash your hands you have to walk across the bathroom to get to the roll of paper towels sitting on a table. no toilet paper in the dispenser so you have to reach behind you because it's sitting on top of the tank. not sure any of that is to code. it was an ok experience. won't go back though, mostly because of the air freshener plug in and the expensive uninspired sandwich. giving it 4 stars but really want to give it 3, but this is a small business that is no doubt struggling. they should take a lesson from the reviews though. a lot of complaints about the disappointing sandwiches. read more

Been going here 1-2 times a month for several years through at least two owners. The menu has stayed mostly the same. The salads are pretty good with plentiful and fresh ingredients. Like most restaurants, prices have gone up. Recent experiences have been disappointing. They do not post their hours, but when asked, one of the salad makers said they are open until 6 pm, except when they decide to close early unannounced. Today I visited the store again and discovered they now have electronic ordering kiosks, like McDonalds. The system arbitrarily added tax. I asked the salad maker why there was tax on carry out, which is not required. She did not know. When looking carefully at the receipt later, I noticed the tax was actually labeled "sales tax and fees," and I calculated it was 14% of the bill, which is 50% higher than sales tax in Brentwood, even if it was charged on carry-out food. Looks to me like an unexplained surprise 14% extra profit. read more

Today was my very first time at the Salad Makers! I went there after my trip to Ross which is across the street (pretty much driving). They were out of the açai bowls, I heard they were very good so I'll have to check back when I return! I wanted something other than salad, because I realized I did not have breakfast. There were plenty of options that were non-salad options such as gyros, sandwiches, pasta, and even pizza! I went with the gyro! This was lunchtime around 11 AM and I didn't wait at all! There were people there, but I took a while selecting so I kept letting people go ahead of me they would order, they would get their salad, and then it would be my turn again! The sauce that they put on the Gyro is so delicious! The pita bread they used was nice and warm! Then I decided I wanted to try their beef gyro. I think I liked the chicken more but I might go back-and-forth between the two in future orderings! (And of course I will get the açaí bowl when they have it) Their store was very clean, bright, and airy! Their workers were nice: two young boys. And as I mentioned there were other guests in the store and everyone seemed pleased. (Overheard one talking to her friend about coming every Monday) I love their store front and the sign! My wife and I have eaten there many times in the recent month and were pleased to see they state they are open until 8pm on weekdays. We went there last night, arriving at 7:20pm and were told the "lobby" was closed for dining in. We made special trip to eat there and were also told they only had take out which we did not want to do, so we left, never to return. Good tasty food, but this this take out only after 7:20, is terrible customer service, when the post sign says they are "open" until 8:00pm. We will not eat there again. read more

So sad to write this review because I usually LOVE salad makers. I live out of the area so whenever I'm in Brentwood I try to stop by. The last 2 times I visited it was close to closing time, about 5:30pm and the employees were very short and dismissive. I understand your almost off work, but some customer service would be nice, not like I walked in at 5:58 demanding to be served. The servers had me stand there for a while as they swept, stocked the salad bar, chatted, made a salad for themselves (I know this because one employee asked the other "are you making yourself a salad?"). Tonight I ordered my usual, full chicken apple crisp. When I got home (about 30 miles away) and opened the box I was very disappointed. The box was about half full and the salad had NO chicken on it. I was shocked since the word chicken is literally in the name. I also order exactly how it's on the menu so not like I asked for some crazy salad.
