This place gets a 10/10 in my book our new favorite restaurant. The food is exceptional. Restaurant staff always kind. The restaurant itself is cute & quaint. Will be returning (probably a little too often).

Obsessed!!! Came here with my family and we all ordered different dishes. We all loved what we each ordered. Loved it so much, I ended up catering from them for an event I had. The customer service is top notch. The location is cute and clean. Parking is tricky but that's just LA.

One of my favorite vegan Thai spots. The food is delicious! My go to is the pineapple fried rice with chicken and the empanadas with mixed veggies. Everything is so delicious here. The vibes are cute. Love the art work on the wall and customer service is great! Worked with the owner to get a catering order and it was an easeful experience.

Sail into Salaya, an incredible Asian-fusion Thai plant-based kitchen restaurant in L.A.'s Thai Town neighborhood in East Hollywood. This EaHo gem is located in a small plaza lot off Hollywood Blvd between Kingsley Drive & Winona Blvd. The have parking in their lot as well as local neighborhood street parking. Salaya does loads of take out for their savory favorite, like the Thai Jerk Wings (out of this world amazing). You can't go wrong with many of their classic noodle dishes: Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Pad Kee Mao, Crispy Chicken Noodles and Spicy Garlic Noodles to name a few. I dined in during the week for dinner and had great service. It wasn't too busy at all, and I got asked to pick wherever I wanted to sit. Placing any order for thing TJWings to start w/ a cool beverage versus hot . You have your choice of Thai Iced Tea or Thai Iced Coffee, Fresh Young Coconut, Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Ginger Brew, Lemonade, Still Water, Sparkling Water, Bottled Water and various Hot Teas. The menu is stacked with: Burgers/Sandwiches, Curries, Desserts, Drinks (only non alcohol), Entrees/Plates, Ramen, Rice Dishes/Plates, Salads, Signature Dishes, Soups, Sushi/Sashimi/Rolls and Small Bites/Starters. So it's easy to eat with your eyes especially for the items pictured on their extensive menu while you get swept away in a little slice of modern warm cool earthy planty chic meets World Market. Great decor, music and ambiance. Gender-neutral restrooms. ADA-compliant. Very much open to all. I've had takeout in the past, Pineapple fried Rice is a 10/10. Could not recommend more. Definitely a place for all regardless of foodie lifestyle preferences. Great food is great food. Love support amazing fully vegan restaurants in LA. Salaya is the way!

    Pad Woon Sen

I've passed by Salaya several times, but it's always been closed when I happen to be in the area. I finally made the trip out during the day, around 3:3-0 on a Saturday and the place was totally empty. A few people came in while I was there, but pretty quiet. I ordered the pad woon sen ($17.99) because it had mushrooms and was a new dish for me. It had fresh veggies and vegan chicken (which I think is seitan), but the dish was just meh to me. Nothing bad, just not particularly flavorful or exciting. It was whatever. I found myself wishing I had ordered one of my go-to Thai dishes or just gone to Hollywood Thai down the street. I hadn't seen anyone mention the pad woon sen in other reviews so I figured I would add my experience in case you're considering trying it. I would skip this and order something else. That said, I will come back at some point in the future to try a different dish because they are fully vegan restaurant and I want to support that. I'm giving 3 stars because I don't think I could rate any higher unless I tried a dish I really loved.

Went on a week night, service was super quick and we were almost the only people in the place, but lots of to go orders were going out. Cute spot with a huge variety on their menu. The orange chicken was perfectly crispy and citrusy. The corn cakes were good but not my favorite item. My husband got the fried rice which he really enjoyed. Solid vegan spot if you're in the area.

    Duck Noodles - spicy
    Alvin L.

Had Duck Noodles - Spicy Food and service was fantastic. It's a Thai owned business, so I would recommend staying in the category as they have an expansive menus that includes Sushi and Chinese food. Duck noodles were flavorable with pretty much the same style broth as you would non-vegan duck noodles. I would recommend to ask the vegan duck to be fried crispy. The crunchy textures you get from Chinese broccoli and a little bit from the fried garlic, but if the duck was crispy, it would've make the dish exceptional.

This place is a great go-to casual restaurant if you're into Thai food. The interior is sleek and modern without the feel of it being pretentious. The servers are fantastic. Ours was friendly and attentive, constantly checking up on us and making us feel welcomed. It's pretty clear that they focus on maintaining a good image. We enjoyed the food here. We got the following: Thai iced tea ($4.99) - It tastes like your typical thai tea that you get at restaurants. Can't go wrong with it! However, it's very sweet so I would be wary about ordering this if this isn't your thing. Green curry fried rice ($16.99) - Was really good. It's fried rice where you can taste a hint of green curry spices. Barbeque chicken wings ($12.99) - This seems like the same typical plant-based chicken wings served at most vegan Thai restaurants in LA. You know, the soy protein ones with the silly bamboo stick going through it. However, I appreciated these ones more because they were nicely carmelized on the outside, creating a nice crisp texture. It comes with carrots, celery sticks, and ranch.

    Dumplings in green curry

This restaurant is in small shopping strip with limited parking. Ambiance is very casual. Service was great from start to end. Food we started with appetizer spicy green curry samosa, there was no squash as specified, tasted like regular samosa with a hint of green curry taste. Tom yum Gyoza miso soup was good. Gyozo did not add value. Kow soi yellow curry was creamy and rich Spicy cashew nuts were good too. Dumplings in green curry was subtle and tasted good. We asked all of the dishes to be made spicy, only spice came through in Tom Yum miso soup. Soup was served in wrong order after several dishes were served.

    Empanadas!

A thoroughly impressive vegan menu that prominently features Thai food, as well as some American food like burgers and sandwiches and some Japanese food like ramen and sushi. Most meals come with a protein in the form of plant-based beef or chicken substitute, or tofu, and even vegan shrimp! There's tables and booths in a pretty spacious interior with a high ceiling. Makes for a very bright and welcoming space. Service is quick and I was offered guidance when I asked which eggplant dish is "better" - and that's admittedly some subjective language to impose on waitstaff. They did not lead me astray with steering me to the Eggplant Pad Phrink (battered eggplant in spicy red curry sauce, bell peppers, young pepper corn and basil) over the Spicy Eggplant (stir-fried eggplant in sauce with peppers). The Eggplant Pad Phrink really was perfectly dense and delicious. Everything was so fresh-tasting and hot and good! They even asked what spice level I wanted, and appropriately toned it down for me. My friend and I had empanadas and corn cakes as appetizers. Those are both MUST HAVES, and I can see myself ordering them again. I also sampled the Salaya Pumpkin with a beef protein during this visit and it was on point. I had visited here once before and had the poke bowl with a vegan tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and saffron roe- and that dish was fantastic, too. Parking is around if you search for it, as this is in Thai town in Hollywood... there is a very small parking lot, and you will likely rely on metered street parking. Let's call this 4.5 stars. Strongly considering 5 stars, I'll need to visit a third time to reconsider. I hope Salaya never goes away, ever.

Salaya has a wide range of vegan Thai offerings on its menu, bursting with different veggies, mock meats, and tofu. They are a great choice for both a casual dine-in experience and take-out or delivery. The employees are friendly and will make you feel at home. I eat here frequently and I have enjoyed most of the dishes I've tried, with a couple of rare exceptions. Overall, their ingredients are fresh and flavorful. My parents are picky eaters and even they love eating here so that's how you know it has to be good!

    Best dishes to try?

All of them! But do try the Thai Jerk Wings, their Pad See Ew, Pineapple Fried Rice, Pad Thai, Spring Rolls and Orange Chicken.

Can the dishes cook without garlic and onion?

They might be able to accommodate with some notice.

Who owns Salaya Thai? is it a Thai-owned restaurant? I'm just asking for an article I'm writing and I can't find the answer online. :) Thank you!

The regular menu is quite expensive with the cheapest at $17 for appetizer and salad options and most expensive at a whooping $80. The lunch menu was more affordable but still on the pricey side $21-$32 with add on options. The waitress was taking our orders and what surprised me was with my co-worker ordered the pad see ew and the waitress asked her how spicy she wants it. I was aw shocked. I'm not a Thai food expert but I do know pad see ew is a noodles dish that's offers a sweet soy sauce flavor. Never served spicy. I didn't get to try the dish but when I asked my co worker how it taste she said it was spicy and not sweet at all. I'm not sure that was an authentic pad see ew. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the tumeric chicken, with steamed vegetables and paid extra $7 to substitute for a papaya salad. I asked for #2 spice level but it was not spicy at all. Other co workers said they asked for medium but it was way too spicy. So it looks like their spicy levels are inconsistent. I'm not sure how this restaurant can justify the prices with the quality they are serving. Probably won't be back. Service was mediocre. Didn't offer to refill our waters. I felt like I came to eat and my mom's house. They take Debit Card and Apple Pay WITH a pin only. I forgot my wallet and paid with Apple Pay. It did not have a place for tip which made me feel awful. At the end I apologized and she was like "it's ok, next time." And she was genuinely fine with it. She reassured me not to worry about it. So I'm determined to come back to tip her because if anybody deserved a tip it was her. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu- I like to order peanut sauce on the side and the woman found it interesting and struck a non judgmental conversion about it. I could really tell she was genuinely curious. This was my favorite dish. It was good. I also ordered spicy fried rice with tofu and spicy panang curry with vegetables. I chose 4 out of a 6 for spicy and it was not spicy at all for me. The rice was fine, nothing extraordinary and nothing bad. The panang curry was yummy. I don't know if it's regional but it was very light in taste and light in thickness. BUT I enjoyed it for what it was. Felt like I had gotten home made chicken soup or something like that comforting and not overly processed. Maybe it's because I ordered it with no protein and just vegetables. I ordered a lot of food so I explained to her that I was going to eat some and take the rest to go. When she brought the food she brought it nicely packed without a bag. She also brought me a real plate and utensils to eat here. She let me know that when I was ready she'd bring a bag which I thought was thoughtful. She also made sure to say "take your time, no need to rush. We close at 8" and it was 5pm. Again, it felt genuinely nurturing, she wanted to make sure I felt taken care of and welcomed. It meant a lot because I was frazzled from forgetting my wallet and from having a hard day at work. This was my first time here and it won't be my last. There is a small lot on site. This place is by far my favorite Thai restaurant and that's why it's so disheartening to write this…read morereview. I have written at least 2 glowing reviews of the restaurant in the past and wish this could be one of them, but it's not. Over the last 4-5 days I have tried no less than 2 dozen times to call the restaurant during proper business hours to order food for pick-up as I often do. The phone rang and rang to no avail. I live too far from the restaurant to just pop up and place an order so I rely on calling ahead. I have been a customer of this restaurant for at least the last 9 years and have almost never had the aforementioned experience. Though I do recall not being able to get a call through several times on one or two occasions in the relatively distant past. Today I was finally able to get a call through and began placing my order which includes shrimp. I ALWAYS request the tail (with shells) to be removed from the shrimp as I find it quite difficult to enjoy my meal if I'm constantly having to pick off shells with my hands. It's unsanitary and messy. Removing the tails from 15-20 shrimp prior to adding to an entree or soup should take no more than 60 seconds and that's if one is moving at a glacial pace. However, today I was told that the kitchen was too busy to honor my request. I assured the lady taking my order than I was a loyal customer and make this request will every order I place and it is always honored. She repeated her claim that the kitchen was too busy and refused to do it. I cancelled my order and ended the call. Now I usually order food from the restaurant 4-5 times a month and usually spend about $65 each time not including tip. That is approximately $325 per month of my hard earned money that I give to this restaurant in exchange for great food and service. I am appalled and quite upset that having been a loyal customer for almost a decade and spending as much money there as I do per month that they could at least honor my patronage by simply taking an additional 60 seconds in the kitchen to make my meal more enjoyable. Her refusal to do such a minuscule task has deeply soured my experience with Hoy-Ka not to mention the fact that I could not reach the restaurant for almost a week by phone for no apparent reason. I will not be going back to this restaurant until they rectify this situation.

My friends and I came here right after watching a show at the Pantages Theater. We were so…read morefortunate to walk into a good number of empty tables so we didn't have to wait. However, as we were wrapping our dinner, all the tables were filled and we felt a bit of a push to hurry up to pay and leave. The waiter didn't say anything to push us to leave, but when you see them giving you the bill before you could finish your food or ask for it, you feel a bit pressured to eat faster. The three of us opted for family style and ordered four entrees and a side of white rice to share. We ordered the stir fried crispy catfish, the sautéed morning glory, the shrimp salad, and the pad kee mao with chicken. The total came out to be about $33.28 per person including tax and 20% tip. The parking situation in that plaza was a nightmare. There were cars honking and almost hitting the cars in the front or in the back. I don't live anywhere near Hollywood, but if I do come to see a show at the Pantages Theater in the future, I'll make sure to swing by again.

They did have a shorter special menu for the festival time (likely to make it easier for the kitchen) and it made ordering super fast and easy. Service was polite and quick!
