A vibey and modern atmosphere to enjoy with friends or even go on a date. You order at the front register, take a number and sit indoor or outdoor on their back patio area. Was such excited to try their Taiwanese food and overall it was really good. There was mix of well priced items and others that felt expensive. We got their wontons, dan dan noodles, beef noodle soup, popcorn chicken and fruit shaved ice. Their beef noodle soup was a bit bland and okay. I liked their popcorn chicken a lot because of the seasoning and saltiness of it. We finished it off with their fruit shaved ice and it so was sooo good. It was really sugary but that pudding mixed in with the fruit and boba like flavor just hit the spot. It gave me brown sugar boba which basically means it was a brown sugar syrup haha. You have to try it out but parking is a bit tough.

We came for a quick bites and it serves exactly what we wanted. We ordered some veggies, popcorn chicken, noodles and a mapo tofu to share. The portion was quite big and we took the left over home. We also ordered a couple teas and mochi. I love the mapo tofu and popcorn chicken and the mochi the most! The chicken was delicious and meaty and the mapo tofu has a nice kick. The mochi with half sesame and half peanut butter powder was so Q aka chewy and delicious. The staff here at are nice and helpful. There are street parking and parking lot around the area.

I'm a hugeeee fan of Pine & Crane! This is probably one of the best and most authentic Taiwanese places on the West side. I'm absolutely obsessed with the popcorn chicken and the minced pork on rice. The shrimp wonton soup was pretty good too, but the other two were standout dishes for me. I also highly recommend trying the boba or desserts. They're delicious too! There's only street parking, and make sure you order in the front first!

Came here today and enjoyed it. We ordered the mapo tofu, Chinese broccoli, popcorn chicken, and dan dan noodles. The food was good overall, although I've had better Taiwanese food elsewhere. The modern design, trees, lighting fixtures, and casual environment made it a great place to sit and enjoy a meal. The cashier and our server were both very friendly and welcoming. I'd come back for the ambiance and service alone if I'm in the area.

HOW DOES IT WORK? They offer menu at the front when you walk n into the restaurant. You would order and pay first, and then they'll give you a number stand. It is self-seating so you'll place the number on your table. They offer some utensils at the tables but it is also self service so you can get your own bowl, plates, utensils and water. FOOD I came with a large group so we ordered a good number of dishes. All the dishes were delicious, flavorful and above and beyond for what I find it to be more a fusion-Asian restaurant. I particularly liked their brown sugar milk team as it comes with boba and grass jelly. And their mochi was SO delicious. This would be a place my parents would enjoy a lot. PARKING It's in downtown LA so parking can be tough. There are plenty of paid parking structures nearby. WOULD I COME BACK? YES!

Came here twice for lunch because it was at a convenient location for me, and both times was good but not amazing enough that I'd make a trip out for it if I were further away. Below are the dishes I tried, ordered from best to worst. Wok tossed basil eggplant ($16) : 5/5 my favorite dish. The eggplant was very soft and thickly cut so it was juicy and the basil flavor was strong. Taiwanese popcorn chicken ($13.50) : 5/5 very good spice with the chicken crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside, served with lots of basil Dan Dan noodles ($12.50) : 4/5 flavor was good but noodles a bit over cooked Pork belly clam shell bun ($7) : 4/5 tasted pretty authentic but wish the meat was a bit bigger since I felt like I had more bun left over Cucumber cold appetizer ($5.50) : 3/5 flavor was just ok Cold soy milk ($4.25) : 3/5 standard tasting soy milk so nothing special. I didn't like how they put in a bunch of ice though and as I was drinking it, they started melting on the hot day and at the end was very watered down Shrimp wontons ($11) : 2/5 I didn't enjoy the wontons nor the sauce. Lacked some spice and wontons had too much green onions and flavor was lacking otherwise Brown rice ($2.50) : 1/5 do not order brown rice! Mine was crunchy and dry as if it were half cooked.

You can never go wrong with Pine & Crane!!!! I loove it here and will always return! The area it's in is also nice and walkable! The only thing I don't completely love is the three cup chicken, otherwise everything is amazing

Don't think about it--just go to this place. The food is incredible. When you walk in, you order at the front and can either take it to go or grab a seat inside. The process is super easy, and they have food runners bringing everything out while you wait. Our food came out pretty quickly, and you could tell it was freshly made. Our favorites were the beef roll, fried chicken, and pork buns. If I had to pick just one, the beef roll is IT. The rice wrapper has the perfect crunch, and the cucumber salad that comes with it was SO good. I'm not even a big cucumber fan, but this changed my mind. The only thing that didn't fully hit for me was the beef broth--it was okay, just didn't have the same depth of flavor as the other dishes. We were literally talking about how good this place was all night. If I'm ever back in DTLA, I'd come here again without hesitation.

The food at Pine & Crane is just a joy at eat. The standout for me was the mushroom mochi appetizer. Perfectly seasoned, deeply savory, and full of those chewy, bouncy textures that make every bite interesting. It's one of those dishes where you keep going back in for one more bite and suddenly it's gone. That's kind of the magic of Taiwanese food in general. It's an adventure. So many layers of flavor, so many textures playing off each other, nothing ever feels flat or boring. We also got the shaved ice loaded with jellies, boba, and mochi, which was just straight-up delightful. Colorful, playful, and a perfect way to end the meal. And the service matched the vibe. Lots of smiles, laughter, and that easy, upbeat energy that makes you want to linger a little longer. If you're someone like me who eats for texture as much as flavor, this place absolutely delivers.

Flavorful! My friends and I came for dinner and I couldn't wait to try it's my girlfriend had this spot pinned for years! Needless to say, the reputation is valid. We got in line at the front which took about 10 minutes on a Saturday night to place our dinner order and we were helped to a table shortly after. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive with placing our items and clearing out dishes after we gobbled through. My favorite items include their fried pork buns, Dan Dan noodles, and my paper crane cocktail! The noodles were scrumptious, they came with finely chopped fresh veggie and no flaws. The peanut sauce was to perfection in my opinion. The crispy fried buns also were amazing, and were surprisingly strong flavored pork, and of course had great textured exterior. Our cocktails were all delicious and made it hard not to order multiple rounds. Fairly boozy and well crafted. I'd love coming back for dinner to try more items but if for sure run it back on ordering the Dan Dan noodles and crispy fried pork buns.

The decor is minimalist but cool. It's in the South Park area of DTLA and it had a great vibe. You line up and order at the counter. They have a great selection of gluten free items. The only item we got with gluten was the three cup chicken which my son really liked. The popcorn chicken had a great five spice flavor with crispy basil leaves. The mapo tofu had enoki mushrooms and was a subtle spice. The gai lan was in an oyster sauce which was fresh tasting. I love the stems and my son loved the leaves. We were both happy. The hot & sour soup was really good too. I would have loved a few more GF options but hey, beggars and all that.

Will they make dishes without cilantro?

    Yes you can modify

Will you be open on January 1st, 2025 for lunch?

They will be closed. I just asked as I was passing by.

Is this place still dog friendly? Does their outdoor patio open during winter time? Thank you!

When I went someone brought a baby goat :)

Hi. I am wondering. They open the shop at 8am for breakfast and then from 11am is starting the lunch menu to 10pm? Is that right?

    Correct

Do they serve the full menu in the morning or only the breakfast one?

They serve only the breakfast menu until 11:00am and then switch to the lunch menu.

Are there free parking at the restaurant/building?

Yes absolutely, there's a public parking structure right behind the restaurant! They even have charging stations for EVs 👍👍

We reserved a table for a party of 6 on a quiet Tuesday afternoon for a quick birthday lunch. Our server was kind and attentive and the food came fairly quickly. Citron Roll: 5/5 Stuffed with spicy tuna and topped with seared albacore, lemon, and serrano peppers, the acidity of the lemon brought a refreshing twist to the roll by cutting through the richness of the fish. As a result, the spicy tuna inside did not feel too heavy and it made the dish taste very vibrant and fresh. Pacific Roll: 5/5 Topped with sliced jalapeno and Yellowtail, the Pacific roll has a unique filling of Yellowtail, cucumber, and cilantro. The jalapeno brings a delicate heat to the dish while the cucumber adds a crunchy texture to the filling. The star of the show is the cilantro, which elevates the roll by adding a fresh and citrusy punch and complements very well with the fattiness of the Yellowtail. Bento Box A: 5/5 Part of their lunch special menu, we had chosen the 4 pc sushi, chicken gyoza and vegetable curry for the bento box. It came with a side of miso soup as well as some sunomono and salad mix for $22.00. This is a perfect lunch option as the portion sizes are great for the price and you get to try a variety of different foods. The nigiri was fresh and you can taste the quality of the fish from its tenderness. As for the other items, the gyoza was super crispy and the vegetable curry was so flavorful with a slight aromatic kick of spice. In addition to the reasonable prices, the incredible service and excellent sushi quality makes Kombu stand out from other sushi spots in the Arts District. The ambiance of the restaurant was also very cozy which makes the space a perfect date night spot. I will 100% be stopping by again to try more of their specialty rolls and highly recommend checking out this hidden gem!

A Long-Awaited Visit to Izakaya Go, Now in LA…read more After years of making the trip to Izakaya Go's original Las Vegas location, I finally got to experience the new LA outpost -- and it did not disappoint. Go-san had mentioned the LA expansion to me a while back, so this visit felt like it had been a long time coming. From the moment I walked in, the place delivered exactly what I'd hoped for. The ambience captures that same warm, lively izakaya energy I fell in love with in Vegas -- the kind of space that makes you want to settle in for a few hours with good food and good company. Service was attentive and gracious, just as I remembered. The food, of course, was the highlight. While the LA menu has some differences from the original -- a few new dishes here, a couple of swaps there -- the quality and care behind every plate stayed consistent. Nothing felt like a watered-down version of the original; if anything, it felt like its own confident expression of the Izakaya Go experience. Overall, this visit reaffirmed why I keep coming back.
