We visited Qin West Noodle during a weekend trip to Chinatown. The store is quite small, but since we saw some empty tables, we decided to give it a try. We ordered the Guilin Soup ($14.95), which was excellent--the beef shank was tender and flavorful, and the rice noodles were tasty with all the accompanying ingredients. Highly recommended! The Zhenjiang Noodle ($13.35) was also good. The noodles were well-cooked, but I found the chopped pork sauce a bit too salty for my taste. The Chinese Mo ($7.75) was good, the Cold Dish Cucumber ($5.50) was refreshing, and the Cold Dish Pork Ear ($7.95) was also quite good. The service was fast and friendly! I'll definitely visit again to try more dishes next time I'm in LA's Chinatown.

Came in recovering from a cold on a rainy day and had my soul healed. I got the classic Beef Noodle Soup with the recommended flat noodles and it transported me straight to heaven. The broth is rich and beef has the perfect chew while not being too salty. The service was a bit confusing, as I stood at the door to be seated like I saw them do for other customers but was ignored. Eventually I sat myself (restaurant was mostly empty) and flagged down the waitress. I asked for the check a couple times and ended up just going up to the register to pay. Staff seems to leave customers alone most the time, so be prepared to speak up quite a bit. The restaurant itself is pretty bare bones but clean, and there's lot of different lots to park in.

Stopped by for the lunch special. The Zhajiang Noodles came in a very large portion. The Thai Tea was small.

Located in the middle of China Town. Service was quick and unexpected, only one employee know a little English. The food was excellent, come in large portion and super meaty and tasty. Especially their number 1 must try. The wontons were big and juicy. Great value overall.

Solid, affordable, convenient lunch place. This place is located inside the plaza near Howlin Rays and the other food places. If you go before 2pm they have a $12.99 lunch special that comes with a standard type of noodle soup, Thai tea, and their signature cold cucumber. Great value and portions are decent! I ordered a Beef Slice noodle soup and it tasted very authentic. Broth was hot and flavorful. Meat slices were generous for the price. Their cold dish cucumber was delicious, great sauce. And the cold pork ear portions were plenty, with great chili sauce. Overall: 7.2/10 would come again. Pro tip if you download the InKind app and pay with it you get good deals at this place.

Loved the boiled fish fillet -- big portion and super flavorful! The environment is clean, not very noisy

Dry Mix Rice Noodle at Qin West.

Qin West is like having a great street noodle stand but with a fixed location, more choices on menu, and their own seating not shared with others. Food came out very quickly, portions are large, taste was amazing. Had the Dry Mix Rice Noodle which was packed with flavor. A Szechuan style spicy sauce, slices of beef shank, pickled veggies, and roasted peanuts. Had enough left over for a midnight snack later on, and it was even better having soaked in the the sauce for a few hours. Noodles soup dishes are some of my favorites, and I will definitely be back here for more soon.

Quaint little mom-and-pop vibe shop here in this famous Chinatown plaza. It looks very modern/hip but it's not intimidating as it appears. The menu is huge and extensive with both more authentic/robust dishes or "safer" American-Chinese dishes (e.g. orange or sesame chicken, fried rice) so whoever you're with, you'll probably find a dish that speaks to your taste buds or cravings. There's lots of both dry and soup noodle options here as well which always makes it hard to decide on. I got the dry mix noodle which had lots of great complex flavors--sour, spicy, etc. I really wanted to like it but for some reason the flavors did not quite meld together for me as much as I wanted. The food did taste quality, but this dish in particular was on bland side when things came together as a dish. That being said, it looks like there's a ton of great options on the menu, so I'd definitely be back to try the rest of it. Keep in mind there is a small fee for credit cards so bring cash if you want to avoid that! The service is quick and friendly. Prices are pretty reasonable for this area.

Going here for Liang Pi was kind of a birthday tradition for me; one of my favorite dishes in the city. Disappointed to discover today that they've closed this location and moved to South Figueroa at Adams.

    Flavorless and too salty?

We ordered liang pi, siao zi noodles + cold chicken. Noodle dishes were literally tasteless and the cold chicken was way too salty. To be honest I dont ever write reviews but their food pissed me off enough to get on here. We made our own sauce for flavor. I cant speak on other dishes and maybe it was just a bad day for them because I do see some positive reviews but this was my personal experience.

What a good stop for spicy-sour noodles! It's open sitting inside a dining hall store. Order at the counter and no tips needed. Staff are friendly and help-yourself to their water station. They add peppercorn to their base, and brings a great flavor to the noodles / appetizers. I highly recommend their rice noodle and the pig ear for apps. The noodle portions are good-lunch size with plentiful of beef slices and sides like tofu sheet, cilantro, peanuts, pickled beans, etc. Their pig ear are chewy and jelly, dipped in their flavorful peppercorns spicy sauce.

*DOORDASH* seemingly v authentic but not rightly so ;( double fried pork 回锅肉: decent but not as good as expected. Rice noodle soup 桂林米粉: omg was so bland and not even as good as the packaged ones from Weee. A decent amount of beef tho Cucumber salad 拍黄瓜: bland also, lack of vinegar and garlic. Also way too watery. Packaged well tho! Also, pls get forks for utensils take out.

I'm going to be honest I was underwhelmed my first time trying. Nobody greeted me I ordered the liangpi noodles it was my first time. I never had it before- I thought it was good but expensive for a veggie meal. For $17 it was a bit disappointing because for mostly white noodles and vinegar. Nobody ever offered me if I wanted to order a drink with my meal, nor was a given a free cup of water. All these little things matter to me. I read some previous comments so I recognize my experience is not just me... it makes me sad to eat somewhere the server doesn't look happy that I'm supporting their business. In this economy why not smile and retain customers?

It was a but busy when we got there but luckily we got seared pretty shortly after arrival. We originally wanted to sit at the bar, but opted for a table for less wait time. When first looking at the menu we were shocked by the prices. I knew immediately i wanted to get the hui tou potstikers with pork and noodles. We ended up adding on the hongkong style wontons too. To my suprise the wontons arrived in a delicious and warm broth, keeping them perfectly moist and plump. The broth was so delicious even on a hot day, tasting faintly of sesame and scallion. Despite both dishes being pork they were so different and equally amazing in flavor. The pan fried potstikers which were CRISPED TO PERFECTION especially reminded me of black bean shortribs that you get from dimsum, fatty but hearty and had me wanting more and more each bite. The minced pork noodles were to no suprise, so good. Noodles tasted fresh, the sauce was umami with mushrooms and pork. While im not the biggest fan of mushrooms, i still ate it up. I feel it would be so good with some picked cabbage too to complement the saltiness. Most notable thing... THAT CHILI OIL. We probably used almost half the jar left at the table. It wasnt spicy at all, but it had this flavor that i genuinely have never tasted before. The texture of the chilli and sesame and the nutty flavor had me in awe. Enough to take two jars home... i would do it again. Servers were so quick, made sure everything we needed was at the table. Regardless of the crowd we were met with promptness and generosity. This that wonton place your girl tells you not to worry about forreal. Will be coming back despite the long drive from home.

That was my first mistake -- they don't even serve mu shu pork. That one's on me for not checking the menu first. I ended up getting my kung pao chicken and settled for the Mongolian beef, and veggie egg rolls. The Mongolian beef I could definitely pass on. The kung pao chicken was good at first, but somehow lost its flavor as the meal went on. The egg rolls were just okay. Nice and crispy on the outside, but too mushy on the inside for my liking. I was also pretty surprised (and a lot sad) that they didn't have hot mustard. The tea was really good though! Service was fine. The server was attentive, just clearly busy keeping up with all the takeout orders coming through. Ambience is definitely on the lower side here, so don't come expecting a nicer Chinese restaurant. It leans more Santa Ana burger joint vibes. That said, everything felt clean and they were pumping out a ton of takeout orders while we were there, so clearly they're doing something right. Overall, it just didn't hit for me, and I don't see myself coming back.

I love the drapes over the big picture windows which keep you connected to a social, public place without making you gaze out on an unattractive street. The cocktails are inspired. A few looked like something from a sci fi movie but tasted like they were made by a pro at the top of their game. The pre fix is all that is offered but they offer some add ons. My wife and I got the tofu and rice which was the perfect amount of food and allowed us to get two desserts. We had asked the waiter about two add ons but he steered us away, saying it was too much food. Although he did suggest we add the duck fat rice (which is it's own add on) to the tofu. We really appreciated his guidance there. We left full but not uncomfortable. After eating roughly a hundred Michelin stars around the world, my usual take on LA fine dining has…read morebeen: the plating is often very competent, but the soul is frequently out of office. Then I went back to Firstborn twice within three months. This newly listed 2025 tasting menu spot actually made me feel a little hopeful about LA fine dining again. The shiso with razor clam and beef cheek cochon, and the black cod with green Sichuan pepper mala noodles, are both full-on collisions between deep animal savoriness and sharp, vivid spice. Then dishes like roasted artichoke and morel stuffed with green peas bring the seasonality into clear focus. The menu is not huge, but every dish has a defined structure and a bold sense of movement. On paper, it reads a little mysterious and intimidating; once you eat it, everything suddenly makes perfect sense, and honestly, it gets addictive. The ingredient selection and handling are also seriously thoughtful. Take the aged duck main course. I am very much a "if there is duck on the fine dining menu, I'm ordering it" person, and I've had plenty of beautifully rich, tender duck breasts. But Firstborn's version, beyond being tender and luscious, had that Cantonese sense of "gan xiang" -- the sweet, savory aroma you get from naturally air-dried, aged meats. For a second, I had this flashback to going with my family as a kid to Xing Fu Lou in Wenquan for Lutian cured meats during winter solstice. Absurdly good. Calling it the Duck King of the West Coast does not feel excessive. On my second visit, the truffle and wild mushroom "gnudi" was also excellent. The moment it hit the table, that intense truffle aroma made me think of the deep, earthy punch of French Périgord black truffle. But then I thought, wait, where are they getting Périgord in June? Turns out they were using Australian winter truffle, perfectly in season. That sourcing logic is smart. It is not expensive for the sake of being expensive; it actually understands the flavor window. The fire-grilled lamb saddle on the second visit was just as strong. It preserved the soft, tender texture of the cut without losing that sweet, milky lamb flavor. Grilled over open flame to a rosy medium rare, the flavor, doneness, and ingredient choice all landed. To me, a great restaurant comes down to three things: concept, ingredients, and seasoning. Some fine dining places love making everything complicated, stacking seven or eight ingredients together, serving a dozen-plus courses, and by the end you feel exhausted and sleepy. Firstborn is the opposite. It is unconventional, but from amuse-bouche to dessert, every dish explains its own logic clearly. Final feeling after the meal: addictive, interesting, and absolutely worth coming back for.
