We had eggplant rollini and Salernos salad for appetizer and it was delicious. I had the veal parm and it also was delicious. Let's start with the bill. They add 3.5% credit card fee automatically to every item you order. Check it out when you get the bill and compare it to the prices on the menu. This is done before they even know whether you are paying with a credit card or cash. This 3.5% upcharge is also taxed because its on the bill. Most people at our table paid cash and we got screwed. Never went to a restaurant that charged this way. Normally they give you the bill and those that pay cash, pay cash, and those that use a charge card are charged the 3.5% upcharge for using a credit card. Argued with the manager and she really didn't care, basically saying too bad. Will never go to that restaurant again. The food isn't that great either. read more

Worst dining experience ever! Not worthy of 1. Saturday night reservation for family dinner. Had to wait a few minutes to place drinks and appetizer order. Three of four drinks arrived, then crickets for 40 minutes. My wife went to front to see what was going on, still no one showed. Finally hailed another waitress, who got the last drink and told us she was going to get the manager. Who didn't come out. Our original waitress finally returned, bluntly asked for our dinner order. We were done by then, asked for drink bill, waitress stormed off. We went to hostess, complained, asked for check. Still no manager, so we walked out. Please contact me at the reservation phone so I can pay for two sodas and a well drink. No tip, and will be the last time you will se us! You have so many other wonderful dining options in the Fox Valley. Don't waste your time or money here. Looking at other recent posts, sounds like serious ownership, management issues. This was a nice little surprise for my wife and I...it took us back to many places from our youth. A nice family Italian restaurant...we loved the old world decor and the service was fantastic. The only negative was that we wanted to sit outside but couldn't because of some renovations done to the concrete deck. The food...my wife had the Shrimp Diavolo and it was delicious not to spicy at all. I ordered a thin crust pizza...now I like a thin crust but this was a thicker thin and wasn't my favorite but the pizza was cooked well and the pepperoni and sausage tasted really good. Had a great dinner with my kids tonight. I was craving pizza and had never taken the kids there. Truth be told, I hadn't been in a few years. It was raining outside, and was glad they had a covered drive to drop people off. Service was great. Our waitress was very attentive. Drinks were always refilled, and she interacted well with my kids. The pizza was terrific. It came out piping hot. The crust had a good crack on the bottom with some chew in the middle. There is a steep 3.5% fee automatically added to your bill which is annoying and ultimately guests deduct it from a server's tip. In addition, the suggested tip starts at around 20%/22%/25% AFTER TAX. Considering this is predominantly a pizza place the suggested tip and fee do not equate to the value you would get at a high end establishment. Pizza prices are high - we ordered a medium with a few toppings at it was nearly $50! 8 finger cavatelli was mediocre and definitely not made there. Service is hit or miss meaning often times you are having to ask and/or wait for basics like water. The patio is nice but could use larger umbrellas to cover you from the sun. I cant comment on the quality of the food or even the service at Salernos. because I was told by the owner that my service dog was not welcome in his establishment. I have a disability and my service dog, Roland, has received almost two years of training specific to my needs. . Roland is not a pet, a therapy dog or an emotional support animal. He is a highly trained certified service dog. Roland has been to dozens of restaurants, flown on airplanes and has stayed in many hotels without incident, My wife and I were flabbergasted when e were told by the owner that unless I was blind-and Roland was a seeing eye dog he had the right to refuse to provide service to us. When my wife I attempted to explain that he was mistaken and according to the ADA Act he could not refuse to serve us because of my disability or my service dog, the owner became argumentative and belligerent. We left the restaurant and immediately called the St. Charles police. An officer arrived soon after and tried to educate the owner on some basic ADA Law. The officer told my wife and that the owner was not receptive to what he had to say either, I can handle someone making a bad decision out of ignorance. However, when you add rudeness and a total disregard to the principles of the ADA Act, I feel compelled to spread the word about how poorly we were treated by the owner of Salernos. My buddy Luke has been coming here since the 4th grade and absolutely loves Salerno's, their Pizza and Food! This was my first time here. Luke and I met for lunch. I liked Salerno's as soon as I walked through the door! Who doesn't like the smell of Garlic, Pizza and other Italian dishes being cooked?! The other thing was the vibe, very warm and welcoming and the VIEW of the Fox River is excellent. We ate in their bar, which is the 70's style sunken bar, it just kept getting better. The service was spot on and super friendly. Then the Pizza's came out. We had one with just cheese. I like to try that first so I can really focus on the cheese, pizza sauce and crust. Their pizza's are cooked the way I like them, closer to the well done side. Cheese is browned perfectly, the pizza sauce worked so well with the cheese and the CRUST on the bottom for a thicker pizza was crisp! Then you get to the back crust, super thick and flavorful! I was hooked. Then we had a Pizza with their Fennel Italian Sausage, Green Peppers, Onions and Mushrooms. It was lights out! I cannot wait to go back! Get Some! read more

The host (owner) Adam explained the self service setup of the patio an we took his advice & ate inside. But, if your looking for Classic Italian with oversized comfortable booths, strong cocktails and impeccable service; Keep Driving! A dining experience should never feel like a compromise. It's been awhile since my last visit to Salerno's and nothings changed; just a place for those easily satisfied with a bowl of Pasta Mediocrity. I'll point my finger directly at the red sauce that literally drowns your entrée in quantity...not quality. What are you supposed to do with a full plate of bland red sauce? Absolutely AWFUL. We did delivery. We ordered a Ribeye sandwich, Chicken Florentine, Stuffed Artichoke and a hamburger with only ketchup. The owner took the order over the phone. He said they couldn't cook the ribeye rare, but would cook it as close as possible. Okay, sounds good. Food arrives. Ribeye came more than well done and the Chicken Florentine/mashed potatoes were soaked in watered down butter. The breading on the chicken was falling off the chicken since it was soaked. Spinach was the only edible thing on it. The stuffed artichoke was dry and there was no meat/heart. Salerno's has been our favorite restaurant for many years. My grandpa was the first sergeant for St. Charles Police Department and Salerno's was his first and last most favorite restaurant. My grandfather passed and my entire family had our dinner there after his funeral. It was amazing. The owner, employees and all the sort treated my grandpa (when he was living) and our family, as well as others, so kindly. My family has been going to this restaurant for over 35 years. I never thought I would be posting such an awful review after all those great memories. But, after speaking to the owner and son of the man that treated my grandfather with such respect, I felt the need to speak. I called Salerno's to tell them how awful the food was and to come to some sort of solution. The owner picked up and he was beyond rude to me. He said he would credit us for the ribeye sandwich and the artichoke, but not the Chicken Florentine. I asked why and he said because he saw them cook it, that's how they cook it and it's been cooked like that for years. I simply said it was soaked and not edible. He said he didn't care about my opinion and the customer wasn't always right. I went silent in shock because of his tone and attitude towards me. I began to ask him how he could treat a customer as such and he said, "how about I don't credit you for any of it and you never be a customer of mine again?!" That brought me to tears. My mom...my grandfather's daughter heard all of this and was in tears herself. I could barely speak until the owner said, "here's what I just did for you...I just completely voided your invoice of 67.98, so you don't have to worry about a thing!" Before I could say a word, he slammed his end of the phone down and hung up on me. We have never ever been treated so unkind and disrespected by a restaurant owner, especially from the restaurant my family has always loved and admired. read more

She forgot our bread refill. Ordered drinks which took her 30 min to bring to table. I asked for a loaded baked potato and told " Not tonight" that was her response. How hard is it to add shredded cheese, sour cream and green onions to a baked potato? Food was just ok. Soup was cold. I have been going to Salerno's since the original Berwyn location starting in about 1968. They made their name with their thick crust pizza and it remains near the top of the heap in Chicagoland. We then started going to Salerno's on the Fox in the 1970s when they first opened and have continued ever since. Outside of the pizza, the menu is pretty traditional southern Italian red sauce. They do all their pastas very well, and their sauces are excellent. They make a killer garlic salad dressing, which I love, and my wife loves their minestrone soup. We always go to Salerno's late afternoon (5-ish) on Sundays, and the service is always attentive. I can't comment on service on Friday or Saturday evenings. But everyone has to face facts with the post-Covid shutdown world - restaurants are struggling across the board with getting people who want to work as servers. It's just a fact of life that we as patrons need to accept. As to value, Salerno's pricing is in line with most Italian restaurants in Chicagoland. Another fact of life with today's out-of-control inflation is that ingredient prices are at historic highs. Well prepared food at small, local ownership restaurants is going to be a lot more expensive than you could get as recent as two years ago. So it just is what it is. If you want inexpensive red sauce Italian, your option is Olive Garden. read more

Salernos is my number one place to order pizza from in STC. Thin or thick crust (traditional) you cannot go wrong! My go-to is a pizza topped with Italian Beef & hot giardiniera and the cheese sticks as a starter. Their meatball or Italian beef sandwich with fries is also tasty. If you're a pasta person their cheese ravioli's are one of my favs. Important side note: They have AMAZING ranch. read more

Our party of four went to Salerno's to celebrate my wife's Birthday 11/6/21. We left being very disappointed. First, after having made reservations well in advance we were seated by the bar. Second, the bill was $160 for our party of four and the food was tasteless and very disappointing. We are lifelong residents of the Fox Valley area and have been familiar with Salerno's since the 70s, but no thanks, they let us down. I've heard that Salerno's had good pizza. I guess everyone's opinion is going to vary wildly but my problem with the pizza is that it was literally hard to eat. The traditional thin crust is hard to cut and it's also hard to eat with your hands. I struggled eating 3 pieces when I can normally eat at least twice that amount. Lol Def not a pizza I would Personally eat again. We had the Salerno's salad Which was excellent. Service for drinks, pizza and salad took TWO Hours. :/ read more
