My parents and Grandma have been eating here for years and somehow I'm just now getting here. I grew up coming to this building when it was Cici's Pizza. 3 star review is mostly due to the less than ideal service we received and the tattered decor. Food was good). I'd describe the interior as Sal's man cave. I don't know him but surely this mix of items are things he loves. I appreciate the honor and respect for our Service men & women. There is plenty of seating - tables, booths & at the bar. The booths are in need of repair (tattered). Tucked in the corner by one of the larger tables appears to be their open broom closet. There was one guy running the entire floor when we went. It was half full with a few larger parties. He looked like he could have used some help. He was moving fast but was also a brash a few times and not so welcoming which was not a good experience for a new customer. The complimentary bread was a little hard and not good. The salads were good. My parents love their lasagna & eggplant parmigiana. My husband and I really enjoyed our pizza. It's a little pricey but worth it. This place is not good. They have no Senior menu. I tried to order from the kids menu the answer was "No". I tried to order from the adult menu to split it with half to go and half to eat there. I asked for $1.00 off because I did not want the salad because it was not in my diet (diverticulitis) and certainly not very compatible to travel home with. The answer was "No". The owner is an Albanian- not Italian. I will never, never,ever enter their door again. If there were 0 stars, I would pick that. read more

This is a little hole in the wall place that's only open for four or five hours a day, but is definitely worth a trip. It has reasonable prices and huge portions. I got the wilted spinach salad, which was super tasty and had more bacon than I never seen on anything. And I got a pepperoni roll, which was also very large, and very tasty with a side of their marinara, which is a tiny bit spicy and I like it. There was only one girl running pretty much everything except for the cook, who was working out back so just be aware we take a little time for perfection to arrive. We went to Sals and had a large pepperoni pizza. It's been years since I've been here. I must say I have been missing out! I forgot how unique and delicious the pizza is. Comfortable atmosphere with lots of military/patriotic/Americana memorabilia. Extremely friendly staff. The food...amazing! You get bread for the table, which is a great way to get started before the entree rolls in. I had the chicken parmigiana with pink sauce (marinara/alfredo mix). Generally good pizza, that's all I get here. This night I ordered a Saljo's special half of it hold the pepperoni. Did I verify before I left? Of course not! Was the order correct? Hell no. I got half special and half PEPPERONI and the privilege of paying for a full special. Maybe I will learn, trust but verify. Look before leaving as compitentcy seems to be a White Buffalo these days. There were 2 good things about this place for me. One is that they sell pizza by the slice. Secondly, it's thin crust. That's all I have on a positive note. I ordered a slice topped with beef, mushroom and black olives. Apparently if you want pizza sauce you have to specifically say that. And I'm still questioning if it's actual cheese used on their pizza. It's probably one molecule away from being plastic. My slice was bland,floppy and disappointing. This is going to be a petty review. 2 stars. Here is a list of my petty issues: -their free pre-meal bread is terrible. Dry. Crumbly. Not even warm. Strangely textured. -they dont list all their toppings on their menu for the "build ur own pizza". Red bell peppers are available but for some reason not listed. -they have the option to put broccoli on pizza (cool but weird) but put it on in giant chunks that fall off and make it difficult to eat on a pizza. One would assume they would cut it into small pieces to be a normal topping size. -lots of weird USA military memorabilia/decor gives off yuck nationalist vibes. Contributes to a strange atmosphere. -baked ziti is bland underneath the melted cheese layer -pizza's are okay at best read more

A good friend of mine, a second generation Italian American who grew up in New York City, told me one day "I just had the best Stromboli of my life." When Italian New Yorker buddy says that, it's time to try some Stromboli. And man, was he right! Saljo worked in the kitchen of Tony's Pizza on Arkansas and Davis in Arlington until Tony sold the restaurant to him. Saljo moved to a more spacious location on Park Row and has carried on the tradition of great food and homey service in the larger space with better parking ever since. Advertised as "New York Style", Saljo's feels like a local place. I wouldn't call it Divey. It has a lived-in feel, with vinyl booths and tables, and memorabilia and framed pictures that might be hung in some family member's house. I've seen the same servers here for over a decade and the clientele seem to all be on first name basis with each other. The complimentary bread is a little hard for my preference, but I can't not order the Stromboli. It's a deluxe pizza inside a garlic butter covered, oven-baked pastry. The marinara is especially balanced and savory. A curiously small amount comes with the dish in a little cup, so I always ask for two. I'm a fairly big eater and the Stromboli is enough for me. As for other menu items, I've tried Baked Ziti, Shrimp Linguine, Fettuccine Alfredo, the basics. All were delicious. Everyone should come here! read more

I have never actually been here, but have had the pizza several times. I work in the area and it is a favorite lunchtime spot. The pizzas are fresh and delicious. For me, it is all about the crust. And they do it right. It is chewy with a slight crisp and holds up under the toppings. They don't skimp on the toppings and the sauce isn't sweet. I can't stand sugar in tomato sauces. It is tucked back in a shopping center on Park Row, but is definitely worth searching out. read more

We went to this restaurant because our usual go to pizza place is closed on Mondays. In a word Saljo's is underwhelming. Below average food. Service was okay. For the price they charge for a small two topping pizza they certainly should have been more generous with the toppings. The pizza lacked sauce, had to ask for a side of sauce to dip my pizza in. Too much cheese, far too much cheese. Another person in our party ordered the seafood alfredo. It was bland to the point of being tasteless. Ordered the cheese sticks and garlic knots as an appetizer. These were plain, run of the mill frozen food section from a grocery store type cheese sticks - bland. The garlic knots, though soaking in a bath of olive oil, were tough and doughy at the same time. Tough - could hardly take a bite without fear of losing a tooth. Doughy - once you were able to take a bite the bread just seemed undercooked. A bit on the pricey side when taking into consideration the quality of the food being dished out. Our party was in agreement that a second chance is not in cards, would not recommend when better options are available nearby. read more

Best pizza in the Arlington area. "NY style pizza" . Sauce isn't sweet, crust is perfect every time. Me and my fiance love toppings on our pizzas don't get me wrong, but we ALWAYS get a large cheese and it is so satisfying and you taste every flavor. The sauce, the cheese, all the seasonings (a hint of basil in every bite) everything is so fresh and will melt in your mouth. No need for toppings when it comes to Saljos. Loved it! The garlic knots were awesome (however, the other two people at my table didn't like them as much as I did). My bf had the chicken Marsala and said it was very flavorful and juicy and loved it. Mother in law had the lobster ravioli with pink sauce and also loved it. The salads were fresh! The eggplant parmigiana was good but could stand to be a little less soggy but like still real good. Table bread was soft and delicious. Don't go here. The restaurant is covered in memorabilia which is interesting but that's besides the point. The service and food was embarrassing. It's basically run by high school students while, who I presume is Mr. Saljo, talks behind the counter to his friends. The food was incredibly disappointing and flavorless. We debated just leaving when we sat down and I wish we had. We left still hungry and sad we'd spent our money there. It sounds like it used to be a good restaurant, shame it's turned what it is now. Saljo's occupies the space that Tony's used to apparently, but rumor has it Tony's is down the street so I thought that instead of hijacking Tony's listing Saljo's needs their own. We ordered a deep dish pizza, and were warned that it would take about 45 minutes to cook -- we didn't mind, just ordered one order of spaghetti to split while we waited. The spaghetti & meatballs were just ok, I wouldn't go out of my way to order it again. But, the pizza was well worth waiting for. First off, it was huge. It could have fed four of us alone I think. As it was having had spaghetti first we only got through half of it. Second, it was good. The crust was thick but not at all doughy or heavy. There was a ton of cheese on it, the sauce was flavorful and the toppings generous. It was probably just a tad too greasy but not enough to deter me from coming back. I liked the sliced italian sausage that they use. The service we had was very good. We found the restaurant through Groupon, and were not treated adversely for it at all. The waiter said "it was nice to meet you" before we left, which I thought was a nice homey touch. The restaurant is actually very large and I was concerned that they weren't very full -- people need to go eat there, to keep them busy! This is a restaurant I want to succeed! read more

I receive a gift card to this restaurant from a charity event that I had attended. Since I'm close to this area today why not redeem my gift card and order Togo. I stopped by and picked up my order and headed home. First dish was the meat lasagna, it was a pretty big portion so I had to split it in half. It was very flavorful, filled with cheese and meat sauce. The texture of the noodles was perfect, so too mushy not too firm. Second dish was the white wine sauce clam linguine. OMG!! It was topped with a lot of clams and the noodles tasted like it was made in house. The sauce went well with the pasta, but of course I added Tabasco for that spicy kick. The portion size was huge as well, enough to serve 2 person. Finally the last dish was the Stromboli. The portion wasn't that big but it was filled with veggies and pepperoni. It wasn't my favorite dish because I think it had too much stuffing in it. But some people would love that. read more

Well, that was all I needed to rate Saljo's a 1. I would rate it 0 if I could. The pizza was floppy, soggy and there was hardly any sauce on it. None of the pizza from the tip to the crust could hold itself up. It was like eating a wet noodle with cheese on it. It sagged even after folding it in half. The little sauce there was on it and the cheese were of very low quality in comparison to other choices. If you want real New York style pizza, go to Joe's on Matlock just south of I-20. read more
