The food was really good and the aesthetic is adorable. My only issue was that they have a really weird seating policy. It was myself and five other friends with a reservation. They were all there on time, but I had a family emergency that caused me to be an hour later. They refused to serve my friends until I got there despite them already being ready. it was just me missing. They said it was "policy" but I wasn't even going to get an entree. What does the "O" in Sally O's stand for? I'm guessing "OhMylanta!" I was blown away by the experience of dining for an evening meal last night. There is an intoxicating sense of ease that has taken over the corner of Gough and S Conkling and for a couple hours you'll feel as though you've been whisked away on vacation. It's an especially nice escape considering most of us aren't traveling much right now. The staff is so genuinely welcoming and warm, the ambiance mimics this with cushy teal velvet chairs and decorated dividers (almost like private beach cabanas). The tasty and refreshing cocktails cemented the theme for me. My favorite? The Caramel Dee: bourbon, lemon, black walnut bitters and caramel syrup. So good I had two! The selection ensures there will be a good choice no matter your preferences. Our group also tried the frozen strawberry margarita, the sleepy bee, meister & commander and startropics - all delightful! The food is rich but delicious. We made the mistake of overordering so we didnt have room for dessert but we enjoyed the crab dip, the burger, the truffle fries and the crabonara (and we loved having leftovers for lunch today!) Sally O's screams T R E N D Y! Everything in the restaurant is highly instagrammable. The cocktails were playful spins on classics and packed a punch. I went a little while ago and shared pork rinds and a tofu dish for appetizers. They were not as memorable as the entrees--the carnitas tacos were really flavorful albeit a lil greasy! Sally O's is fantastic!!!! I went during happy hour last Thursday and looooooved the meal overall. We started with the single person charcuterie and cheese plates and the carnitas queso tacos! They were sooo good. I actually ended up getting two entrées, the Steak Frites and the Shrimp & Grits. 10/10 recommend the steak frites! It was one of the best I've had in a while. On the contrary, I would not suggest the shrimp & grits... as a southern gal, this was a very one note version of the dish. The shrimp were small and put into a thick and grainy version of an Étouffée style sauce. And cold crab meat was tossed on top. It's okay to not be a classic version of shrimp & grits but the flavors felt muddy and it was not tasty. Food was lovely, service was great! The carnitas tacos were the standout winner. Filled with the juiciest carnitas, stuffed with cheese and pressed like a quesadilla. Definitely oily, definitely delicious. And I didn't even mention the sauces yet! Their queso and hot sauce paired deliciously well. As if it wasn't already good enough, it's listed as an appetizer, but for just $12, you've got yourself a full fledged meal. Sally O's, if you're out there, if you're listening, please never remove this from your menu!!! We also ordered the burrata app, which we also enjoyed. I love burrata anything, so I was even happier to find that their take on it was unique and worked well. The sweet potato butter was a smooth purée, the onion jam wasn't too sweet or overpowering, and the candied pecans added beautiful texture. This was all served with their house made focaccia, which was the only part of our meal we weren't thrilled about - it seemed unnecessarily buttered/oiled up and needed to be toasted longer for that nice crispy texture to pair with the soft burrata, purée and jam. We still fully intend to order it again, regardless! The Highlandtown smash burger was big in size and flavor. As was the Sally Mac. Everything here is worth your money and more! I got Sally Os takeout with a couple friends last week. I wasn't there to pick it up but it stayed pretty warm during the 15 min drive. My friends had been there before and with all the 5 star ratings, I was pretty disappointed with the result. I ordered the chicken sandwich w/ fries ($16-which is overpriced IMO). The chicken had a lot of fat on it and some of the pieces were pretty suspect and by that I mean it was borderline pink. I didn't eat half of it. I also wasn't a fan of the sauce but that's my preference.The fries were delicious though so I pretty much filled up on those. My friends enjoyed their meals so 3 stars for that. read more

I had such a lovely meal at Sally O's's last night. I ate outside, both because I am still being quite cautious about Covid and because I had a small puppy with me. Temperatures were in the low 50s and it was feeling kind of cold, so I was a little worried about what kind of outdoor seating set up I would be walking into. I was so impressed! Sally O's has set up a wonderful outdoor heating system involving a heating ventilation system on one side and propane fueled heaters on the other side. Tables were divided by tall woven wood screens and the ambience was spectacular. It felt like you were dining in your own private room. From what I could see if the interior, it looked adorably decorated inside. I had the duck breast and my dining companion had the cavatelli. We shared the burrata appetizer and I had a slice of funfetti birthday cake for dessert. My deck was spectacular, the flavors were beautiful, the duck was perfectly cooked, and the spring vegetables were bright and crisp. My friend said she enjoyed her dish as well. The burrata was paired with a delightful combination of spring flavors. I didn't enjoy the birthday cake; it was dry and not especially flavorful. Service was also excellent. We made a reservation for outdoor seating and received a very close to our reservation time. Our waiter was perfectly attentive without being overbearing. Wait staff all wore facemasks correctly. Love the vibe of Sally O's so much-have gotten takeout a few times during the pandemic but was looking forward to finally eating in and taking in the space. It's sooo beautiful! If you'd never been to laughing pint, you probably can't appreciate all the special touches, but I'm amazed. The food, as was the case with takeout, was also delicious. The only bummer was our service was SUPER slow, I mean super, super slow. Despite multiple times trying to make eye contact with servers at various points throughout our meal and especially once we were waiting for the check to be picked up (15+minutes), we waited to no avail. That was kind of a bummer, especially towards the end of our meal when we'd been there 2.5 hours, and it wasn't very busy, but it's possible (although it didn't seem that way) that they were short staffed. It won't stop me from going back as it's so darned cute, the staff was lovely and service was fine, aside from the slowness. Definitely share the poutine and thank me later!! read more

I tried to make a reservation via Open Table (linked on Sally O's website) and ran into a snag. This prompted me to send the restaurant a message to try to rectify the problem. In fact, my message was a bit snarky and possibly not deserving of a response, but the restaurant's owner responded with lightening speed and, rather than returning my snark, he wrote a kind message and explained why I hit a bump when trying to reserve. In these trying times, this is the kind of businessperson we should do our best to support. Not to overlook the fact that the restaurant's reviewers here on Yelp are virtually unanimous in their praise for the quality of the food. read more

This place is amazing!!! COVID procedures are tight. You're only dining outdoor, with cover and heaters. Well distanced table too. On to the main story...the food!! It is unfair how good this food is. I've now dined twice and both times was blown away. We had the best burrata, the amazing crab-anara and the best rabbit of my life ( and I was born in Germany they know rabbit). This is hands down the most playful,fun, best food in this city. Tonight was our second time coming to Sally O's, and as was expected, it was wonderful. The menu is so much more than deliciously done- each item is innovative and exciting. These are flavor combinations I've never had before, and they are impeccable. The service and atmosphere is equally amazing, all while maintaining the safest environment possible in the midst of a pandemic. I went here with my boyfriend and a friend last week and we had an awesome time! Our server was very attentive and gave great suggestions on both food as well as drinks. We had the pork cracklins, the poutine, my boyfriend and I shared the crispy skin rockfish and our friend got the chicken sandwich. We enjoyed coming here! Sally O's has such a cute vibe even with outdoor seating on the sidewalk! The staff was all very friendly and on top of things, which is no small feat during the first few weeks of a restaurant. I had the daisy cutter to drink which was refreshing and a different flavor. I ordered the crab carbonara which was AMAZING. It was a good sized entree with lots of crab and bacon and was a well done carbonara. Overall a great experience, looking forward to trying more on the menu as it all looked good and trying cocktails when they get their liquor license soon. This was my first visit. We made reservations in advance. They had tables seated outside along the restaurant. There was a heating unit near our table which was great. Overall I was very impressed with the service and the taste and quality of the food. The staff was courtesy. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the food menu and he was also very knowledgeable about the wines. I ordered the impossible burger and it was delicious. I also ordered a glass of Riesling and that was also very tasty. The friend who accompanied me ordered the beets appetizer, the seafood risotto, some type of white wine, and a churros made dessert that included ice cream. Sally O's is a wonderful addition to Highlandtown and promising towards making the area more welcoming to visitors. Our party of 3 dined outside and there were heaters to keep us warm. The interior is well appointed and overall a pleasant atmosphere for a night out. We ordered the honey nut squash filled with impossible chorizo, which deceptively tasted just like meat. The squash was a little tough but tasty. For mains we ordered the burger and crab carbonara, the latter being very unique and not for the faint of heart- hearty and plenty of crab! The burger was also perfectly cooked and juicy. We finished our evening with a deep fried cornbread topped with dulce de leche cream and ice cream! The texture was delightful and made me nostalgic for the state fair. Overall, Sally O's did not disappoint and would love to try more of their creative menu options. read more

I was excited to try this place, made a reservation and didn't realize I made two. Showed up and was lectured by the hostess about how I should never have done that and if it ever happens again they won't accommodate like way over the top felt like a lecture from a military boot camp. So that was awkward from the start and then the food was overpriced. This place is in highland town serving D.C. prices? (12$ getaway car cocktail was average).. My chicken sandwich was really good, my friend said the french onion dish was something to forget. Only complaint is that when another guest ordered an Irish coffee, it was served lukewarm and with no whipped cream. When asked for a coffee too off to warm it up, the response was that they don't offer drip coffee so we could have another shot of espresso. Came here for the first time for dinner at a friends recommendation. I ordered the lunchbox beets and carnitas tacos. Everything was very well done- the beets came with a chèvre whip that I could eat with everything, and the carnitas was delicious (and a large portion!). The only issue was our food took veryyy long to come out- apparently the kitchen was backed up, so we waited about an hour for food and service was a bit slow (we waited another 30 minutes to get out check). We came here on a whim for happy hour and weren't disappointed. The staff were a blast - great conversation and great recommendations. We love trying unique wines and they have a great list - we had one from Old Westminster which is a vineyard in Maryland.
