After seeing many reviews of this restaurant and it's Fried Chicken dish, I had to go see for myself what the fuss was about. As a self proclaimed Fried Chicken connoisseur, I have to check all claims. First...let's talk about City of Baltimore and dining. Parking can be an issue. But not here! Can't tell you how pleasantly surprised I was to see that they have their own parking lot with plenty of spaces. I went on a Friday night, after 8pm, and was expecting a wait. Nope - came in, was greeted & seated immediately. I'm loving this place already. After being seated, I was greater by my Server, Bella. For me, the Server can make, or break a dinning experience. Well...Bella was awesome. Since I was dining there for the 1st time, I had questions. Plenty of them. She didn't get impatient, and engaged with me, making me feel welcome and that I wasn't a bother. Bella is super dope. Now let's get to the food - I came for the Fried Chicken and it was good. Fried to crispy delicious status. Now, let me be clear - it's a Cornish Hen. However, it was still very well prepared. Fries are served with it and they were done well too. It's accompanied with Pickled Radish. I've never had this & didn't know what it was (thanks Bella for the pickled radish help!) and it was really good. I do not venture out & try new foods but this was something I'm glad I tried. I tried dessert to top off a good evening, going with their Banana Bread Pudding. I'd like for them to take another look into this dessert...I think it could be Better. I recently visited Motte Restaurant & Bar, and it was such a great introduction to Korean-American fusion cuisine. The restaurant has a modern, inviting atmosphere that works well for a date night, dinner with friends, or even celebrating a special occasion. We started with the Honey Garlic Wings, which were perfectly crispy and coated in a flavorful sweet and savory glaze. The Crispy Fried Shrimp Balls were another standout--crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and paired with a spicy mayo that complemented them really well. One of the biggest surprises of the night was the Hot 'N' Sweet Shrimp Pizza. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the combination of breaded shrimp, sweet chili, mozzarella, and scallions worked surprisingly well together. For our entrées, we ordered the Bulgogi, which was tender, well-seasoned, and served with rice, pickled radish, and white kimchi. We also tried the Motte Fried Chicken, a whole fried Cornish hen served with fries and pickled radish. The chicken was incredibly crispy while staying juicy inside, making it one of my favorite dishes of the meal. To finish, we shared the crème brûlée. It had a perfectly crisp caramelized sugar topping with a smooth, creamy custard underneath--the perfect way to end dinner. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Motte. The food was flavorful, portions were generous, and the menu offered a fun mix of familiar comfort foods with Korean-inspired flavors. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. read more

Was disappointed because I was trying out due to the charm city cocktail club so I went all the way across town for this place and I would just say the whole experience was about a three. Was first standing there for a few minutes waiting to be seated. Then I'm seated outside and probably wait almost 10 minutes for a server to the point where I'm wondering if they know I'm eating outside. After I order the brussels sprouts come out decently fast. They were warm, not as if they just came from being cooked. And I finished my appetizer and was waiting for my drink still. It was probably over 15 minutes waiting for my drink where I had to get up to see what was going on. I love Moscow mules, and I love brussels sprouts and neither of them warranted going back. read more

I came here on a Friday night and it was packed. My friend and I sat the bar and our waiter was Angel among 2 other guys as well. They were very nice and hospitable. I started off with a Red sangria even though it wasn't on the current menu, they still had it available. It was tasty and I actually ordered 2. I then ordered the crispy shrimp balls and the Brussel sprouts. My friend ordered the vegetable pot stickers. Those shrimp balls were so good, I do wish it came with more sauce instead of just a dollop under the shrimp balls. I would absolutely order them again but ask for more dipping sauce on the side. The vegetables pot stickers were also very good. Very crispy and flavorful and the dipping sauce was good as well. Unfortunately, I didn't really like the Brussel sprouts. I like Brussel sprouts but these had an aftertaste that I didn't really like, so I did not finish them and would not order them again. It took a while for my pepperoni pizza to come out. It took about 30mins after I ordered it but the bar staff apologized and let me know that the pizza oven was a little backed up. They said a lot of people were ordering pizzas that night. But when I received it, I was pleased. It was very good and they did not skimp on the pepperonis which I appreciated. This place was so cute and I loved the atmosphere. We stopped in on a Thursday evening and there was plenty of seating available. They seem to have a lot of space they can host parties. The service was great from walking in to leaving, food came out in good timing. We tried a couple dishes and ill just rate each: The Soy egg- 5/10 seasoned but tasted watered down not as rich in flavor Pork dumplings- 10/10. Had japchae filling for that classic Korean Wings- the sever recommended the Soy ginger and it was 10/10. Loved the flavor and crispy wings Bulgogi- 8/10 Rich in flavor, had a lot of big pieces of veggies and verrrry thin meat though. Came with white kimchi and radishes which were tasty. Motte fried chicken- ahhh 5/10 I expected a lot more but maybe the description is just really accurate. Nothing and just nothing on the Cornish hen. You do really get a whole one and it is fried crispy. I needed a sauce with it, something. It also didnt speak to much Korean flavor. After visiting an event next door a few selected to dine here. On this Wednesday evening it was not crowded and dining in was a breeze. When I arrived a couple people had ordered appetizers fried pork dumplings and brussel sprouts. Both were great. The meals ordered were as such bibimbop, motte fried chicken (cornish hen), spicy chicken tteokbokki and bulgogi. The fried chicken was said to be very crispy and tasty, the bibibop and bulgogi both came with korean sides (kimchi and picked radishes and white rice)all satisfying and met the satisfying taste and hunger. After eating we all had left overs as it was more then a serving in all meals. However, a couple meals continued to be eaten and didnt make it out the door. This place has an eclectic korean fused decor and menu. Seating on 2 levels. Not a large restaurant but seating is plentiful depending on the day and time. Motte has been on the list for a hot minute, and it did not disappoint. Motte is such a wonderful addition to the Highlandtown community. It's in the same parking lot with Monument City Brewing and Urban Axes. I love how Motte pairs Korean and American cuisines with a casual no frills vibe. The building that houses Motte was originally a fireplace mantel factory. You will definitely feel at home here for sure. Stopped in after an Elite Event at Monument City, and was quickly seated. We came on a Saturday afternoon, party of 8 since my sister and her family were in town. Very beautiful exterior and more eclectic on the inside. We took a few stairs down to the bottom floor. Our waiter was super friendly. We ordered the Motte pizza, soy garlic wings, fried Cornish hen, brussel sprouts, crispy fried shrimp balls, fried squid, Mayak egg, galbi and a couple of kids cheeseburgers. All-in-all the food was good. The Cornish hen lacked substantial meat. The fried squid was fried in potato starch which was good for my gluten sensitive wife, but had a different texture most are used to. It kind of taste like squid wrapped in a shrimp chip. Definitely interesting. There weren't many shrimp balls for $15. Definitely excessive mayo in the brussel sprouts, but I guess it's better to have more since it was just sitting at the bottom. The Motte Pizza, although more like a flatbread, was probably my personal favorite. Overall, I think the food was pretty good, but also on the more expensive side. Korean food is typically more expensive but I don't mind paying the premium if the food is superb. It was still a good experience. read more

My partner and I enjoyed a date night at Motte! I live right around the corner from this space, which is the BEST part. Secondly is the parking lot which is clutch! If you live in the city you know what a flex it is to have a FREE parking lot for your business. When we walked in we were greeted and seated right away. We had reservations, but the restaurant was quite empty when we arrived. We did notice, about 15-minutes into our meal, that the place started getting packed! It's a vibe! Our server was courteous and gave us some helpful hints on what to order. In the end, I ordered the bibimbap and Yoo Rin Gi. My partner ordered the Motte wings, Brussel sprouts, and margherita pizza. The Brussel sprouts were BANGING as were the wings! The wings remind me of the Bon chon wings. They've got that crunch! The bibimbap was VERY satisfying. They bring some condiments, along with a house made gochujang, to use as you wish. It was so filling, but in a good way. Everything was so fresh! I can't believe I ate the whole bowl! Well, I can believe it, but it seemed like a lot. The Yoo Rin Gi is these chicken strips over lettuce. It was topped with some sort of sweet sauce. The combination of the chicken, sauce, and crunch of the lettuce was perfect. As I said, I had already eaten the whole bowl of bibimbap, but couldn't resist the chicken. Greedy, I know! I HAVE to mention the non-alcoholic IPA. Good Times! It was one of the best I've tasted. We're at the end of our Dry January and I could drink these everyday. If I didn't know it was a non-alcoholic beer, I probably wouldn't know any better. Well, until I realized I wasn't getting the buzz. These NA options have really made my Dry January easy. We both had Creme Brule for dessert. It was good, but my partner is creme bule connoisseur and felt it could have been smoother. It was a bit thicker than we're used to. TLDR: Great space, easy parking, and excellent cocktails. The pizzas were the surprise stars. Korean dishes felt toned down for Western palates and lacked some depth and punch. For the price, we hoped for bolder flavors and more refined execution. A good experience, just not quite what we were hoping for. Motte Restaurant & Bar in Baltimore was a place we really wanted to love. My wife and I are both of Korean descent, and when we saw a modern Korean fusion concept open in the city, it instantly went on our must visit list. We made reservations a few weeks in advance for a birthday lunch for a group of 15, and to their credit, Motte was able to accommodate us without issue. Located in the same business park as Monument Brewing, the shared private parking lot is a huge plus, especially for guests coming in from outside the city. Upon arrival, we waited about 10 minutes for our table to be fully set up, which is completely reasonable for a party of that size. The layout of the restaurant is well suited for both small and large groups. They pushed several tables together so we could all sit as one long party, which made for a great communal dining experience. About 70 percent of our group was Korean, so we were very familiar with the Korean side of the menu and excited to see Motte's modern takes on classics. We ended up ordering nearly the entire menu, multiple times over, to feed everyone. From a Korean perspective, the food felt like Korean inspired dishes tailored heavily toward a Western palate. You get hints of bold Korean flavors, but softened and presented in very familiar forms. We knew going in that this was fusion, but we were hoping for a bit more risk taking and depth in the flavor profiles. Ironically, the standout items of the meal were the pizzas. The bulgogi pizza and the sweet shrimp pizza were both crowd favorites and genuinely excellent. They were the most memorable bites of the afternoon. Some of the Korean dishes, however, fell short of expectations. The whole Korean fried chicken could benefit from better seasoning and being pre cut into chunks, which is how it is typically served in Seoul and makes for a much better group dining experience. The spicy chicken tteokbokki was skimpy on rice cakes and lacked the punch we were hoping for. We also found it odd that only young white kimchi was offered instead of a traditional aged kimchi. The galbi sliders were another miss, as the galbi patty was dry. The cocktail program was a bright spot. Our group worked through much of the menu, and the S'mores Old Fashioned was the runaway favorite. There was also a banana infused whiskey old fashioned on special that was very enjoyable. By the end of the meal, our bill was north of $1,200, so this is by no means an inexpensive restaurant. It is more of a special occasion spot. At that price point, we were hoping for Korean dishes that felt a bit more refined and bold, especially considering how many excellent Korean restaurants exist in the Baltimore area. Motte has a great space, strong service, and a solid bar program. With a little more fine tuning on the Korean dishes and perhaps more generous portions, this could be a standout. Right now, it feels like a place with a lot of potential that has not quite found its full voice yet. read more

This spot is a great spot to stop into on a whim. It's super close to my house so I find myself here every so often for apps and drinks. They have a really good espresso martini and the Brussel sprouts are a favorite. The vibe here is dark and moody and a bit industrial so it's good for a casual date night. Delicious Korean and American cuisine! Recently visited with a few fellow Yelp Elites, Motte had been on my "to try list" ever since I saw their viral whole Korean fried chicken. While here I noshed on the following: Pork fried dumplings: light and savory. The pork and dumpling was nicely seasoned. Motte fried chicken: juicy and crispy. It came with pickled radishes and a nice salt mixture so that you can salt to taste. I appreciated that as I am currently on a renal diet. Brussel Sprouts: the Parmesan, roasted garlic and mayo made the fried Brussels sing! Bibimbop- all the elements perfectly complimented each other. The steak was tender and juicy with the mushrooms, carrots and egg. It also came with a few small banchans, such as white kimchi and pickled radishes. My table mates got Bulgogi and Tang Soo Yook. I liked the texture that was added by the cellophane noodles. Delicious. Motte Wings I mixed the sauces the honey garlic phenomenal. The spicy gochujang was a powerhouse of flavor. Hits you up front with the salt then slow release to the heat. Subtle and powerful and the same time. Perfectly crispy skin on the wings and fried to a perfect crisp, while moist on the inside. The thick ranch dipping sauce, didn't over power the sauces and complimented the wing well. Shrimp sliders My least favorite. The shrimp was undercooked a bit, I prefer shrimp less translucent. Shoe string teriyaki fries were crispy and flavorful. Motte Galbi For the price, I felt like there should've been more short rib. Tender even though it was cooked well-done. I prefer a more medium cook. Good flavor nonetheless. All in all, it feeds my soul status conferred. Service Ray at the bar was a....wait for it...Ray of sunshine! Full of faerie magic and jams! My friend celebrated her birthday with a few friends at Motte. I was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant had a private parking lot! That's a huge plus for me because 89% of the restaurants in the city is street parking. I must mention that this restaurant (from what I saw) is NOT wheelchair accessible. They may have a different entrance in the back or something, but as soon as you enter, you go down a stairway. I suggest calling to verify if they have accommodations beforehand. The atmosphere is *perfect* for a date night. The lights are low and candles gently add a nice little glow to each table. The structure of the restaurant is warehouse-like, with exposed brick & piping and high ceilings. We were a fairly large party (about 15), and the waitstaff were very accommodating! Everyone ordered something different, so I didn't get pictures of every single thing that was consumed. The food is kind of Italian/Korean/American fusion. Some of us had pizza, and some of us had dumplings. They also had burgers and wings on the menu. The birthday girl had the hot 'n' sweet shrimp pizza. She said it was tasty and it looked really good! A couple of the ladies had the crispy fried shrimp balls. I can't vouch for how they tasted, but they looked a bit modest for the $15 price tag. You get three balls of minced shrimp covered with what looked like shredded egg roll wrappers & deep fried. Someone ordered the Brussel sprouts, but had to send them back because she requested them without the bacon. I ordered the fried pork dumplings from the special menu of the evening. Instagram made me come. I'm glad we did. Ambiance was the first thing I noticed when I entered this brick and mortar building. It doesn't look like much from the outside. In fact, you might not know you've made it to your destination if you don't pay close attention to your Waze directions. The chicken wasn't seasoned at all. I was surprised about that. Even though it was a Cornish hen, it was big enough for 2 people. I ordered at the host stand and took a seat in their lounge as I waited for my order to come out. The inside was nice, dimly lit with exposed brick walls and a cozy interior. Service while I ordered at the host stand was friendly and accommodating. I ordered the chicken sandwich and took it to-go. I didn't touch the food for an hour after I received it, so maybe that added to my dissatisfaction, but the food was disappointing. They advertise the sandwich as fried chicken, but what I received was a very thin, definitely grilled piece of chicken. The fries were okay, but nothing to write home about. It was also pretty cold, but again, that's probably my fault for waiting so long to eat it. Overall, I would definitely check this place out again, but I would want to eat in the restaurant and would order something more Korean-based, like bibimbap. read more

I just wanna start off by saying that this probably isn't a fair representation of what the food tasted like just because I ordered it for pick up because I was next-door at the monument brewing company and they allow you to get food so since Motte was next-door, I l just ran over and picked it up. For my order I got the crispy fried shrimp balls from the starter menu and the tteok galbi sliders from the sandwich section. The shrimp balls surprisingly even after being a little bit cold, were still pretty tasty. I mean they were shrimp balls and I'm sure they taste a lot better when they're fresh. I know it's an appetizer but they're tiny. For as small as they are I'm not really sure it's worth the $15 price point but again they're good. The tteok Galbi sliders..... I was a bit confused because it was just two sliders alongside a massive mountain a french fries. I feel like in the restaurant world when you order sliders, three sliders is pretty much the standard. No? That's what I'm used to, because even when the sliders are on the smaller side atleast there's three. So yea, I was a little bit thrown off by that especially given the fact that it's their most expensive sandwich priced at $20. The flavors were OK. I think the pickled radish added a nice crunch and pop of flavor. I'm not sure what flavor the "tteok" was supposed to be representing. Because I was tasting sweet/chili rice cake when eating it. The flavor could've been a lot bolder in my opinion. I've eaten room temperature burgers before that still had tons of flavor. I see the vision but definitely not worth $20 for two sliders and a mountain of french fries. I could've honestly just gone with 3 sliders and no fries at all. Motte offers an elevated take on a variety of Korean dishes. Since we got to go here with a large group of people, we did get an opportunity to try most of their menu items. I would say my personal favorite was the tangsuyuk, which is fried pieces of pork in a sweet-and-sour sauce and their pizzas. We got to order two types of their pizzas, the motte pizza and the sweet and hot shrimp. The texture of the pizza crust was also something I really liked as I personally love chewy textures, but if you're someone who likes a more crispy texture, I would ask them to cook it a little bit longer. Some dishes that we ordered that were not my personal favorites were the whole chicken as this is typically served unseasoned and comes with a side of salt for your own tasting and the tteokbokki. For me, the rice cakes were a little overcooked, making it a little mushy, and I didn't think it was really that much more elevated than the original aside from the added pieces of chicken. The white kimchi is also something I would not recommend as it was super bitter. Drink wise, the bitter fall drink which had a great balance of banana and cognac was delicious! My least favorite was their take on Mai Tai. We ordered several rounds but the flavor of mine versus my friends was very different as it was too strong on the lime flavor. I do also think that the price point for each of these items were a bit high, except maybe the pizzas which I thought were the best deal for your money. If you're looking for a more traditional take on these dishes I think there are plenty of other places that can do a really great job and I just don't think that besides from the fancy interior and drinks the food itself doesn't offer that elevated price point. Where I think this restaurant earned it stars was for their excellent service from the looks of it. It did not look like they were fully staffed as there was one waitress serving two large parties of 10+ people. She did an amazing job keeping up with both tables and checking on us periodically because she was managing two tables. Incredible Experience! The service was outstanding--our waiter Jo was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable, guiding us through the menu and helping us make excellent choices with both food and drinks. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with a perfect blend of rustic industrial style and cozy vibes. The food was absolutely delicious--we really enjoyed the Korean-American fusion dishes, each one packed with flavor. Highly recommend the shrimp sliders with teriyaki fries and the Motte fried Cornish hen. And whatever you do, don't skip the banana milk ice cream by Taharka it's the perfect sweet finish. What a cool new spot! I had no idea there was a restaurant space tucked in the same building as Monument City Brewing and Urban Axes. The inside is absolutely beautiful with historic brick walls, the original textile oven, and plenty of bar and dining room seating. The menu is Korean food with a modern American flare. They have a pizza oven in the back that they're putting to good use for dishes like bulgogi pizza. The pizza seemed to be surprisingly popular as many tables around us ordered it. Although I didn't eat much myself, my boyfriend enjoyed his bulgogi and I enjoyed the vegan kimchi washed down with a cocktail and a couple glasses of cava. I got the mule cocktail which is available for a better price during happy hour. I will definitely return to try more of the menu. The ambiance has a rustic, industrial, and cozy feel with exposed brick, wood beams, that also makes for a comfortable feel. The food is a good blend of Korean and American cuisine which can be hit or miss. The apps were on point. I'd recommend the fried squid and dumplings. My friends tried various dishes that all looked equally delicious. Service was very attentive and made sure to keep up with the busy crowd. Decided to try Motte with my dinner group friends. The overall experience was amazing in. Our server was very attentive, positive energy, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was good although there's a lot of open space and exposed brick so sound travels. There was a group of 6-8 sitting near us and their conversation and laughter echoed throughout the area. We started with the Brussels sprout appetizer which was definitely the highlight of the meal. Nice, big sprouts, fried. So delicious. Our entrees were good but not spectacular. We all agreed this would be a great spot for happy hour drinks and shared appetizers. Motte is a fun Korean fusion restaurant with a great atmosphere that makes good use of the building/location. I would love to dine outside here some time. My first note is that the cocktails are a bit on the pricier side, but I did think the "Dreams of Spring" was delicious and I would consider trying another the next time I go. The menu was packed full of a variety of Korean and American dishes, some being a mix of both. I do not eat gluten, however, so this was a bit hard for me. I got the motte salad and a side of regular fries and a side of white kimchi. For $2, I expected a bit more kimchi. But it was delicious, as was the fries and salad. I saw another review mentioning the salad as not being that great - but I disagree. I thought the house dressing was yummy and overall was suitable for me to eat with a couple sides in place of a meal. (That said, I would love to see if the restaurant considers making a main dish that is gluten free or makes gluten-free substitutions - I think it would make a lot of people very happy!) My friends were pleased with the teriyaki fries/soft tofu starters and the main dishes they got. It was a little odd to us that that Yoo Rin Gi didn't come with rice, as it could have benefited from it. Another odd note was that they didn't have dessert - or if they did, our waiter didn't offer it to us. I see some options on the online menu, but we didn't get the option there. All that said, we left the meal with satisfied bellies and everyone said they'd come back. read more
