Ozzy's Apizza is a New Haven-style pizzeria that opened in Glendale, California in 2021. It was founded by friends and Connecticut natives Chris Wallace and Craig Taylor. After growing up in East Haven, Wallace relocated to the Los Angeles area for a change of pace to live with friends. Over the years there, he held jobs in security management and sales, worked for the fast-casual chain MOD Pizza and pursued a stand-up comedy career in Los Angeles. Taylor became friends with Wallace in college. He visited Wallace often before deciding to relocate to L.A. himself. When COVID hit, Wallace began experimenting with New Haven-style pies in his home kitchen. He and Taylor began to do a series of pizza pop-ups. Wallace named his pizzeria "Ozzy's" after his pet chihuahua. Before long, the business took off. A second location opened at East Rock Market in New Haven (CT) in August 2024. A new flagship location opened in North Hollywood in October 2024, the Glendale location relocated in October 2025, and a delivery kitchen opened in Beverly Hills in January 2026. My son and I recently had lunch at Ozzy's New Haven outpost at East Rock Market. I had heard a lot of great things about them since they opened. This location is run by co-owner Craig Taylor while Wallace runs things on the West Coast. After looking over the menu, my son and I decided to order and share "The Ozzarita" (fresh mozzarella made locally from Liuzzi, fresh basil, and housemade red sauce) and "The Mikey Rabbit" (housemade garlic ricotta cream sauce, freshly ground Italian sausage, baby spinach, pecorino, and mozzarella). Holy cow! These pies were excellent! Crispy crust with the perfect amount of New Haven char, excellent sauces, and very fresh tasting toppings! I washed everything down with some delicious Foxon Park Birch Beer. My son and I also had a nice time chatting with head chef and pizzaiolo Louis Matteo, who was very friendly. It was really cool watching him make the pies and then slide them in the rotating oven. I give Ozzy's my seal of approval! I'll definitely be back!

I've been a regular at the original in North Hollywood, so I was eager to check out the expansion in New Haven. When you come here for pizza, most people fall into camps based on a pilgrimage to the "Big 3" spots. Our family belongs to neither. We are an Ozzy's Apizza family. As a former Nutmegger and current Angeleno back in Connecticut for a visit, I was excited to see if this version stayed true to its origins and could hold its own in the New Haven scene. I'm happy to say it absolutely does. We started with the Philly cheese egg rolls, which were fantastic, the shell was perfectly crunchy and the inside was a warm, savory mix of meat and gooey cheese. I highly recommend those. Next, I ordered my old favorite, The White Rabbit. It has that perfect New Haven char with incredible dough flavor from the right amount of fermentation and hydration. The cheese they use adds a salty, almost umami depth that is hard to beat. Lastly, we tried their newest pie, the Hot Damn! It's a buffalo chicken-inspired pizza with that same great crust and a nice kick from the spicy sauce, and the chicken was perfectly cooked. Proud to say I've known owner Chris Wallace for a few years now and the energy he brings to all parts of his business is inspiring. He has welcomed me with open arms literally at all 4 of his locations he has had over the years. Mad kudos to this guy. Finally it was a pleasure to meet head Ozzy's chef Lou Matteo who is really firing on all cylinders bringing different flavors and takes to New Haven pizza. So excited for what he brings next. Perhaps something LA inspired like "Not Your Mother's CPK" Lastly my favorite thing is the Foxon Park soda. So good to wash this pizza down with! Anyway the East Rock Market is a super cool spot that feels like a mini food hall. I really recommend this place to all the apizza faithful out there. Come check it out.

Went to ozzy's for pizza when we were at the brewery right next door. They have one size of pizza in addition to numerous difference toppings choice and other things. For 7 people we opted to get 3 pizzas and one breadsticks. We got one of the clam pizzas, one of the veggie pizzas, and the meat pizza. It was nice that they have buzzers that have range to the brewery and they let me know it would take about 25 minutes. The cafe area around it is nice though, spacious and airy, and there are several places to eat in that area. Pizza itself was good! My favorite was the clam! Good amount of salt, generous amounts of toppings, and well cooked. We were left with a bit less than a half a pizza at the end of it. Great place if you're in the area!

The pizza was incredible. The people were nice and friendly. The store is so clean and a ton of natural sunlight. Perfect location to get away for a day or two.

Located in the East Rock Food Hall and it's an order and sit wherever is available. Pizzas were large and we had plenty of leftovers. As you can see our crusts was were very charred but other than the pizza good. The dining areas were not cleaned and thankful I brought wipes to wipe off the tables.

Ozzy's Apizza is a fantastic new addition to East rock market. Their flagship restaurant is in California and I know it caused even me an initial concern that somebody would be claiming apizza. We tried three different pies; The Mikey rabbit. Buffalo chicken, and pepperoni. The Mikey rabbit and the white rabbit are their fundraising pies currently to support the LA wildfire relief. All the pies were amazing. They focus on quality like creating their own cheese and making their own buffalo sauce and ricotta cream sauce. Lou has been making pizzas in New Haven for many years and it definitely transferred to a great pie at Ozzy's!

This may be one of the weirder reasons ever for ordering a pizza. I was on my way from Hartford County to an event in East Haven, and I needed to break a $50. LOL. That's not exactly the whole story. I like to try all the New Haven Ahbeetz spots and Ozzy's, located in East Rock Market, is probably the newest in the game. There's seating if you want to stay in the Market, You can also take your pizza next door to East Rock Beer. Or you can just take it out. I ordered a Zack Attack. Extra Sausage (ground Spicy Italian). Classic pizza Mozzarella. Red sauce. I had two slices as soon as the pizza cooled a bit. The crust was very thin, but held up pretty well on the crust fold flop test. There was some char in the crispy outer crust ring. The rest of the crust was relatively char-free, and a mix of crispy with a good slight chewiness. The cheese was melted well and married with the red sauce. The sauce got a bit lost among the other ingredients, but when I was able to isolate it, I could tell it was well executed. The crumbled sausage was tasty. The pizza was very good on Night 1. And I have to make a weird claim. At least this Ozzy's pizza, yielded some of the best leftover cold slices I can remember eating this year. The crust held up really well to refrigeration. The flavors stayed and relaxed. This makes Ozzy's a great grab and stash pizza in the colder months as you're doing things around New Haven. 4.5 Stars

Ozzy's was great! The service was incredibly friendly, the pizza was delicious (as was the Caesar salad), and it's located in a complex with a few other shops and a beer garden. We were able to take our food to the beer garden to eat, but you're also able to eat at the restaurant. Very cute and clean. We'll definitely come back if we're in the area!

Plenty of street parking and a dedicated parking lot. I was promptly greeted at the door by a hostess who cashed me out and brought our food out (Medium tomato pie with mozzarella, small sausage, pepperoni, and mushroom and a slice of flourless chocolate cake: $50+). All-in-all, the takeout process was great. A bit pricy in my opinion, but somewhat expected given the area and hype around this place. Onto the food... I had the original tomato with mozzarella. My wife had the same but with mushrooms, sausage, and pepperoni. In my opinion, the medium is more like a typical large and a small was more like a typically medium. So, you do get your money's worth in quality and portion size. Definitely Neapolitan-style pizza done well. Light airy crust with a nice balanced sauce with a fresh taste. The cheese-sauce-crust ratio is just right. In conclusion, being the "pizza capital of the US" brings with it some VERY lofty expectations, in my opinion. However, I can honestly say I've had equally good Neapolitan-style pizza in southwest PA (and some equally overall good pizza in Pittsburgh, PA, Wildwood, NJ, Savannah, GA and Nashville, TN). Again, this is a solid pizza worth having but if this is an example of what earned New Haven, CT the "pizza capital" moniker, then whoever dubbed New Haven, CT with that moniker needs to travel more of the US.

The Diavolina was good, but I think some more spicy salami or maybe an additional spicy component would have been a good addition to the pizza. It needed just a little bit more on the flavor side. But still everything here is high quality and I would recommend! Service was excellent. We were immediately seated and had the option to sit inside or outside. I first sat inside, then we moved to a larger table outside. What I really appreciated as a new mom, was their openness and flexibility for coming in with a stroller. I was nervous to be a burden to the restaurant, but they were super accommodating. Thank you On room for improvement, I think on a hot day, having the inside space being much much cooler, than the outdoor seating (especially for newborns/really young kids/elderly) would be beneficial. Yesterday it was cool inside to start (and remember I chose to move outside), but they started to leave the front door open to allow for easy movement of staff and guests between inside and outside, which made the indoor space get warmer over time. And I totally get that for the ease of movement for staff/guests, but maybe consider keeping it super cool on the inside, so that kiddos/elderly have a cool space on a really hot day to not overheat. The vibe here is great. Chill, warm and light! Come with family and/or friends and enjoy!

We arrived on a Monday around peak dinner time, but there was essentially no wait (apparently uncommon according to my friend -- just a delightful consequence of dining at a college town during the summer). We split a medium pizza (1/2 elote mexican street corn and 1/2 bbq brisket), proving to be more than enough for two plus a more than ample amount of leftovers. Recently, I've gravitated toward thinner pizzas, a far cry from the typical Detroit (foccacia-esque) style pizzas I used to prefer, and BAR's pizza is akin to a flatbread yet very thin, another fallen angel to the GLP's. The undercarriage boasts a brilliant crust, almost cracker-like. However, it should be noted that the pizza is indulgent all the same. The elote pizza is quite possibly the most memorable, unique pizza I've ever had; it arrives almost crimson-red with a generous layer of corn and takis atop. It's still incredibly well balanced despite the hodgepodge of varied toppings. It's hard to pick a favorite between this and the bbq brisket though; while one is incredibly unique the other is simply sumptuous, nothing pedestrian about either of the two. The service is also impeccable, almost rivaling that of southern hospitality. I always thought Californians were friendly but something is in the air every time I visit New Haven. Incredible!

BAR is an interesting restaurant: open air, picnic tables, open space, paper plates, no utensils unless you ask for them, etc. We were greeted right away by a less than friendly waiter who seemed peeved we didn't have a drink to order right away. Strike one. After a few minutes, everyone put their drink order in and I asked if the bartender could make me a mojito since it wasn't on the menu. The waiter said yes, so I waited. Then came the mojito. It was the worst "mojito" I've tasted in my life. I'm not one to send a drink back because of an "I don't taste any alcohol" excuse, but this was BAD. It tasted like margarita mix with lime and mint sprigs thrown in. It was absolutely terrible. When I double checked with the waiter if the drink was an original mojito he simply said yes, not "is something wrong with the drink?" or "would you like to send it back?" The drink was so bad I told him I couldn't drink it. He was peeved again. Strike two. I asked for a soft drink instead and the soda was flat (strike 3), but at this point I just needed something to drink... because who wants to have water with their pizza? Then came the time to make a dinner choice. My mission was to try the mashed potato pizza. It was hands down AMAZING!! Mashed potatoes and bacon on a pizza. Yes, please!! This was the only saving grace from my experience. I would return to BAR again if only for that pizza! Two of my friends had the clam pizza and the pepperoni/mushroom. Both enjoyed their own! Warming: New Haven pizza is thin crust. I got two meals out of a small, so if you visit with a group, consider ordering a few small pizzas so you can taste a few. I would've given BAR 4 or 5 stars, but the unpleasant waiter, the "mojito," and the flat sofa made for a trifecta, so I'm giving my visit 3 stars. If I find myself in New Haven again, I'll be back! Hopefully my next update will be 5 stars!

The centerpiece of the room is the wood-fired oven, running hot and glowing with that perfect orange flame. The aroma of burning wood hits you right away and sets the tone. From that moment on, the culinary experience is in motion. We ordered The Mootz and Breaking My Meatballs. Both pies are built on a very thin, tender crust with beautiful leoparding. The dough is flavorful and clearly well-fermented. Sauce is applied with restraint, just enough to support the dough and cheese without overpowering them, and it delivers a clean, bright tomato flavor. Breaking My Meatballs was the standout. Homemade meatballs, herbed ricotta, cherry peppers, mozzarella, and that same balanced sauce. The cherry peppers bring a sharp vinegar tang that cuts perfectly through the richness of the ricotta and meatballs. Every bite hits a different note, and it all works together. Kwok has more than 20 years experience in the hospitality industry. Some of the other restaurants he has opened include Sweet Basil in Fairfield, Pink Sumo Sushi & Sake Cafe in Westport, and Eat Noodle in Bridgeport. Kwok and Nguyen's latest venture opened at the Connecticut Post Mall in a restaurant space that was previously home to Cast Iron Chef Kitchen & Bar, which specialized in tavern-style pizzas cooked in a cast-iron skillet. 8 Thousand Pizza offers this same style of pizza, but what sets them apart from the previous pizzeria is that they also offer self-pouring technology, which became legalized in Connecticut in 2021. The food menu features two dozen tavern-style pizzas as well as burgers, wings, fries, salads and soups. Through the use of a supplied electronic bracelet, customers can self-pour their own beverage from a selection of 28 craft beer taps and 6 wine taps. There's a two-pint or 32-ounce limit for the self-pours. I recently visited 8 Thousand Pizza for dinner. I had previously visited the space when it was Cast Iron Chef Kitchen & Bar and was sad to hear that they moved. However, this new business concept of a tavern-style pizzeria with self-pouring taps sounded very interesting to me. This was actually my first visit to a self-pouring taproom, as these types of establishments only just began opening in the state in the last few years. After looking over the menu, I decided to order the "Grandma's Tomato Pizza" (fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, roasted garlic, tomatoes and EVOO) and the "Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza" (tomato sauce, pepperoni, hot honey sauce and mozzarella cheese). The latter happens to be 8 Thousand's signature pizza. Both pizzas had crust so thin that it's almost cracker like; they didn't flop at all. They were super crispy with excellent sauce and toppings. I honestly can't decide which one I liked better; they were both very good. During my visit, I enjoyed some self-pours of Grey Sail Brewing's "Captain's Daughter" (Double New England IPA) and New Park Brewing's "Cloudscape" (American IPA). Delicious pizza with craft beer is always an excellent pairing! I had a really nice experience at 8 Thousand Pizza and I hope to return with my family.

Paying by the ounce. Service was nice and attentive. But you have to go up to the counter to order. Many of the betas were out or empty. I did like that. They had a wide selection of glasses available for the different styles of beer.

We've gotten everything from specials to a plain here and it all slaps. Joe is also a super friendly guy. Located in Old Heidelberg as a plus (only on weekends, check their IG for latest schedule), with some good cocktails and a solid dingy vintage basement bar vibe.

Now let me tell you...THE SAUCE. I dream about it. It's enough where one night my husband and I craved pizza and I said we had to drive to New Haven to see Joe and crush a pepperoni pizza. If they have the tomato pie? GET IT. The rare Kale white pie? A vegetarian's dream. Keep an eye on the Instagram for which pizzas are coming out and how many. I came in a different night after going out in New Haven with a group and we snagged the last pizza at about 9:30pm, only 2 hours after they began service. Joe is also just fantastic. He's friendly, a caring dad (the pizza is named after his three sons, and why you see three basils on each pizza), and he does this after he perfected the recipe during Covid and is now sharing it with the world. Crisp pepperonis (how I like them), addicting sauce, unique flavor combos, go see Joe. He knows what he's doing. Maybe a good thing I have to drive 45 min for this pizza because I'd otherwise be here every weekend. Definitely a pizza worth checking out!
