Not bad. Not great. I think you know what to expect with a touristy place like this, but they're still fun to try. Service was friendly and attentive. The cornbread others refer to came with entrees and not up front. Not sure if that's typical. Didn't really matter because it was dry and mealy, and nobody really ate it anyway. Clams with sourdough for dipping in the broth were good enough, although the sourdough was more the soft, flimsy grocery store variety. Wife had the salmon bake, which she reported to be pretty dry. It looked like it. Side dish appeared to be canned corn that they tried to fancy up a bit. If you don't want the fries and other nondescript side dish, getting the halibut appetizer is a good option. Looked like a lot, and was reportedly good. Kitschy atmosphere to remind you of the gold mining and trapping days, etc. Overall ok. read more

This is what you expect from an Alaskan small town restaurant and then some. Crab cakes brimming with fresh crab, not sure what else but fresh Alaskan crab was in there! Dinner was the platter made from fresh caught Alaskan salmon, (ask them for very little seasoning they overdue it and the fish is so amazing it's a waste to do anything to it) some big chunks of again super fresh halibut lightly breaded and fried, and some of the best large fried shrimp we have had. Odd as I'm not sure it was local but it was fresh. My wife had a special,scallops with lobsterbutter and mini shrimp with brocollini and mashed potatoes. The scallops were great, the butter sauce rich and tasty, but the mini shrimp were a nice addition. The beers were great and the service was friendly and very accommodating. When I mentioned the salmon was over seasoned they plain grilled another one, (bigger piece even) and it was extraordinary. Skip the places in town and make sure to give this a try. We are from los Angeles so we know a little about seafood and this is a simple, rustic and wonderful place. Just remember Alaska is expensive so rustic doesn't mean cheap. One of the best places to eat in Seward! Their baked salmon is delish! Cooked to perfection. They offer some complimentary corn bread with some honey butter. And some complimentary dill if you order their sandwiches or burgers. I visited this place twice whilst staying in Seward and I am sure to be back if I visit Seward again. The service is pretty prompt and our attendants were very attentive and nice. The best dish I liked at this place was the Steamer clam appetizers which comes with some butter toasted sourdough bread. So good....we had our wedding reception here. I'm a born and bred Alaskan and this has the BEST salmon I've had. It's some sort of teriaki glaze on blackened salmon that I didn't think I'd like, but I LOVED it! My husband and I decided to have our wedding reception here and it was a great decision. All of our guests were blown away by the Captain's Platter, but there's more! The halibut quesadilla is fantastic and so is the salmon burger! We had a burger and the salmon sandwich, both of which were HUGE and really tasty. Good selection of beers, too. The Salmon Bake was a great casual resturaunt. The crab cakes were pretty good, and the portions were just right. The meal came with corn (which seemed like the frozen corn meadly), but it was still good. The prices are decent, and the service was wonderful. The corn bread was amazing. Stopped here after hiking 10 miles around Exit Glacier and up to the Harding Icefields. I was definitely ready for some good food and good beer. Luckily the salmon bake offered up both! Local beers served in adorable mason jars and lots of great food options. I chose the Alaskan king crab legs and the seafood chowder and my boyfriend got the special which was red snapper served in a pesto sauce. The snapper came with two tasty sides: corn and rice. The crab legs were cooked to perfection and the red snapper was flaky and delicious. Definitely worth a visit if you're near Seward! read more

My friends & I had the pleasure of dining here after our deep sea excursion in Seward yesterday. Becky was our waitress & she treated us like family from the moment we were seated. We started with a round of their signature on tap root beer & a couple of baskets of cornbread & smooth honey butter. The king crab offerings is what brought us in the door. So it was unfortunate to hear they were sold out. We substitutes a healthy portion of snow crab in exchange & were not disappointed. The chicken pesto pasta & the teriyaki burgers were huge hits as well as the chowder soup. My favorite part had to be the free pickle barrel planted in the dining room for us to indulge during our wait. I wish this place was closer to home so I could be a regular. Locals love this place. They tell you that it is a must go, etc. We honestly weren't all that impressed. The food was OK, but we had better in Seward and spending $15 on a burger is always tough to swallow. I got the salmon burger and my boyfriend got the chicken sandwich. A little more on the expensive side but the food is good. We tried the salmon bake with butter garlic rice and corn , halibut fish and chips, and the sockeye salmon . Everything was well cooked . Well their ad is at least correct about lousey food. We ordered halibut and chip thinking that that would be simple and easy to go. Got home with 3 small pieces of fish that way over cooked, a small handful of fries and 5 shrimp. It was supposed to come with tarter sauce and cocktail sauce but we didn't get either of those. All this for ONLY 87.00 dollars. I've lived in Seward for 30 years and I get how It jacks up the prices and the quality of their food goes down in tourist season but this was down right embarrassing. Well worth the short drive from town. The seafood chowder was filled with an assortment of seafood. It was served with perfect cornbread and honey butter. My hubs had the salmon bake. The preparation was tasty. Savory with a hint of sweet. I had the grilled halibut. It was perfectly cooked. I also recommend the sautéed corn. I think they may put a little butter in it (hehe) yum! The blueberry cobbler was not really a cobbler IMO. The crust was more like granola. Tasty. But not cobbler. read more

We were in Seward for 3 days, ate here twice. Went here the first night, the food was so good we went back on our last night in Seward. Not sure what the Korean couple was referring to, but we're also asians and my wife and I did not feel like we were mistreated. I had their surf and turf, steak and king crab legs. My wife had the salmon bake sandwich. Both were really good especially after a couple of hours of kayaking. Note thou they are only open for dinner, I think 5pm-10pm. Not bad but not great. Piece of salmon and two sides for $26. That seemed to be the going rate for any entree. Their slogan is "cheap beer and lousy food." At $5 a small beer I'm not sure I would say cheap, but I guess it is irony. Food was fine but not great. Service was pleasant. came here after a strenuous day hiking and kayaking, because they were open. Jill, our server, was so incredibly happy that it made me happier. the food was good, just needed some nourishment/refuel so we just had some beer, chowder, and crab cakes. Most places in Alaska during the season are staffed by seasonal workers. This place had the feeling of a local hang out. The service was the best we had recieved in Alaska. Rays also had great service. The food was better than other places. The clams were excellent. Kid friendly. read more

My family and I ate here in September. The restaurant looks clean and charming. They are open between 5pm and 10ish. I had the halibut burger, which was great. My mom had the cheeseburger and she raved about it. My brother and sister had the clam chowder soup, which they really liked. Our service was pretty bad, but that may have been because we had 8 ppl in our party. So the foods great, but pricey. (A small simple Cesar salad for $6.00!! ). Also ask for their corn bread it is sooo good read more

The food was decent and the beer better. The service however was lacking. If you plan on visiting make sure to bring your patience with you.

Went to this restaurant on a personal recommendation and after researching on yelp. Unfortunately it did not live up to our expectations. We were seated and our drink orders were taken. We then waited 40 minutes before the waitress came back to take our order. She had waited on all the other tables in the room but did not look over at us once. Once the food came she put the food down and left without asking if we needed anything else and did not come back to check on us until the check was ready. The food was OK, nothing special at all. This place was probably the most homey restaurant my husband and I went to on our short trip to Anchorage and Seward. The décor and ambiance made the restaurant extremely comfortable, and it was a great break from the tourist restaurants on the harbor. We didn't have a reservation on a Saturday night around 8PM, but we got a spot in about 15 minutes. I ordered the fried prawn entrée with corn and garlic rice, and it was a great hearty meal. The rice was particularly great, but the prawns were a little too heavy for my taste. My husband ordered the seafood pasta, and it was loaded with fish and was wonderful. I wish I had gotten his because it was delicious. Options in Seward are limited, so I would definitely return for the seafood pasta if I ever find myself in Seward again! read more

Had the deep fried halibut appetizer. Portion was a little small, I think 5 small pieces but was lightly deep fried, moist inside and perfectly cooked. Had the salmon bake for dinner. For someone who doesn't like salmon that much, the taste was amazing. The thicker side of the salmon was a little raw for my liking, but the rest was perfect. The side of cornbread was cold. We had dinnner here in late August 2012. I got the Salmon sandwich and it was one of the best I had in Alaska. The pickles are help yourself and all you can eat too. The decor is rustic and cozy. If your on the way to Exit Glacier or in Seward I would recommend stopping here. Oh. And the cheesecakes and desserts are EXCELLENT too! read more
