I have been seeing Izzy and Inna for my hair and brows for about a year and a half now and they are miracle workers! Izzy does a wonderful balayage and has helped me achieve my hair goals in a healthy way. Izzy has encouraged me to look at my hair as an investment, and my hair looks just as wonderful at home thanks to her product recommendations. She listens and is such a kind human. Inna has completely changed the shape of my brows and how I feel about them. I was self-conscious about my sparse brows, but inna's suggestion to tint has made all the difference! I'm surprised I have this place four stars originally. I've always felt slightly uncomfortable here but it's where my stylist moved a few years ago. It's alright. As I mentioned something has always felt off to me here, maybe a bit of a feeling that I'm not welcome, or that it's I don't know. Atrocious experience here. I came for an updo in the middle of the week. I mentioned I was getting married and playing around with updo ideas. In no way was this any type of wedding trial. The salon was sooo hot and I was sweating my entire appointment. The girl that did my hair literally burnt plastic in my hair and had to cut it out. Another employee near her laughed while I cried about it. Then I go to pay and they tried to charge me for a wedding trial. Obviously, I refused and only paid for a simple updo but the attitude of the employees and their skill level was a joke. Would never come here again. although the space is huge and clean, the "business practices" and customer and/or POTENTIAL customer care are non-existent. i called based on reviews to get a consultation regarding the color/cut of my waist-length hair. i spoke with the receptionist for at least 10 minutes and was very specific about what i was looking for and that she recommend the best stylist(s) for my hair type and service needs. she first mentioned 2 other names, but finally decided caitlin was the one for my services. i then waited 12 DAYS for the consultation appt, which was yesterday. caitlin was pleasant enough, but i would expect a professional stylist, who specializes in my type of hair, who i WAITED 12 DAYS to see, would be able to express their vision of what would be best for my face, hair type and could maintain at home. i spent almost 35 minutes consulting with caitlin, we FINALLY decided what i would do. she told me the service appointment would be 3 hours. when we walked to the front desk, caitlin spoke with the receptionist and when i spoke with that receptionist, the FIRST 3 hour availability for caitlin wasn't UNTIL FEB 2024. i then cancelled 1 service and was asking for a HAIRCUT/STYLE APPOINTMENT ONLY. the receptionist told me the FIRST haircut/style availability for caitlin is in JAN 2024. i'm moving back to the west coast in january, as i told caitlin during our appointment, so i couldn't take EITHER of those outrageous options. even if i WASN'T moving, i STILL wouldn't take either of those options. END RESULT: the receptionist who decided caitlin was the stylist, should have informed me, IRL, she's BOOKED OUT FOR THE NEXT 3+ MONTHS. the receptionist yesterday said this; "yes, that's why we book consultations, to see if YOU FIT in caitlin's schedule." it seems caitlin is the salon's SOLE FULL-TIME "curly hair specialist" and their part-timers are booked out further than she. SALON 1800 WASTED MY UNPAID TIME, I RECEIVED NO VISION FROM A PRO STYLIST, WHO WAS CALLED; "A SPECIALIST" AND I EVEN GAVE THE SAME RECEPTIONIST A QUARTER I FOUND IN THE PARKING METER BOX. I am the most picky when it comes to my hair. Due to past experiences I have had a hard time sticking with a hairstylist. But, Pedro was my hairstylist at this salon and asked me what it was I wanted. I explained and kind of just stopped talking, he made me feel comfortable to trust that he knew what he was doing. So, about three weeks later I came back to Pedro and dyed my hair. BIG moment!!!! I've dyed my hair once before and it was a disaster! But because the haircut went so well I was ok with trying it again. Becca is a miracle worker! I've been a client at the spa above Salon 1800 for about a year now so walked through the salon a million times. However, it wasn't until my go-to hair lady was on maternity leave that I decided to look into this salon. Naturally I did my due diligence between yelp reviews and instagram stalking, that I decided to book an appointment with Becca. I had text her before the appointment to make sure she was comfortable with reds because it's really hard to find someone who is good at doing red (think Debra Messing red), she assured me she could. Well a couple days later I decided I wanted to go rose gold, which I knew would be quite the undertaking, so I sent her an inspiration photo of what I was looking for and to see if we could. She wasn't only up for the challenge, but she freaking nailed it! I appreciate how detail oriented she was, it really means a lot to me as a client when the professional takes pride in their work. 10/10 highly recommend! read more

My colorist, Becca, is incredible. She totally captured the color I wanted perfectly. It was my first time ever coloring my hair (virgin) so needless to say I was nervous and wanted to make sure it was gonna be perfect. I started off seeing Lonnie as a model to practice techniques. One of the greatest decision I have made here besides seeing Fabiola for my eyebrows! Lonnie is extremely informative about all the great products that Salon 1800 offers, and helped me find great combinations of different products to help maintain healthy hair. He has a great technique for Balayage, my hair not only looked great but the placing of color still looks great months later! I can also be a big baby when it comes to getting my haircut..I mean who isn't?! Lonnie not only shows me exactly how much he's cutting off but my hair has quickly grown back and always looks great! I'm a pretty picky person when it comes to my hair. Yesterday was my first time visiting Salon 1800 and had met with Lonnie for a deep condition, toner + haircut, and can say with full confidence that this man is a hair styling *genius*. I always have a vision for my hair before going in to a salon, including pictures and a description of what I want, but what I loved is that Lonnie gave his perspective and gently nudged some good ideas to help get us what I wanted. My haircut/hair now has never looked better. The blowout, cut and toner was exactly what I envisioned, my hair is smoother and healthier than ever, which is incredible because usually it takes 2-3 times with a salon stylist to really get what I want. Have never been here and will NEVER go. I don't normally leave reviews but I am so displeased with the customer service and cancelation policy. My puppy got spay and my sister had to urgently go into the hospital for a shift, so I had to stay home and monitor my dog. I called, fully aware there was probably a cancellation fee (even though NO ONE told me about it when I scheduled) but didn't realize how ridiculous it was. $20..$50...fine...but I have to pay $100 dollars for a service I never received and we weren't even sure that I was going to get highlights. It was going to be my first time there and it was to be a cut and highlight consult. I get that stylists make their money this way and I took away time, but that rate is sickening..especially for a first time customer and unfortunate cancellation. The receptionist was emotionless and didn't even see if it could be waived or reduced. So sickening and rude...I'll never come here. And if you do, DO NOT cancel your apt within 48 hours or you will have to pay half of the registered service. Unbelievable...it should be 10% at most. I have hip length, high-porosity, curly hair. If you have shorter, straight hair that you wash daily maybe these milquetoast stylists are what you expect. But I have gotten free blow outs from beauty students that were better than this. My mother wanted to give me a blow out as a gift for my birthday and my aunt who lives in Chicago and uses this place a bunch made the reservation. (I'm from NYC but we were in town for thanksgiving) And I'm angry at myself for not throwing a complete fit and stomping out of this place. 1) "I'm going to only use a little conditioner so the blowout lasts longer" I countered saying I already go 4 days between washes and could he please use a lot conditioner most of the way up. He ignored me. 2) Detangling: for curly hair you ALWAYS detangle when soaking wet with conditioner and a wide tooth comb or fingers. Not this dude. He got me into the chair and squeezed moisture out THEN grabbed a paddle brush (god help me). He ripped through my hair. Even damp I heard the sound of my tresses being shredded. 3) He put in one minuscule pump of product. One. I have so much hair. That did nothing. When I got home I put several ounces of hair oil in and it was still dry. I had to oil about every 12 hours for the several days I kept my hair straight. I should have just rewashed it with a deep condition) 4) He dried it on hot and without a brush. Just had me scrunch down on the chair. (Defusing it was not an option - I checked, curling is extra and it's done after the blow out with a wand.) and the manner in which he dried it meant it had NO volume. Dry but somehow heavy. 5) As an afterthought - no conversation whatsoever. Just the sound of my hair screaming. They rushed us so hard for their next appointment. Uh, we were there on time. Nobody came and got us after we checked in for 12 minutes. How dare they take their lateness out on my hair. He did mention that for hair my length it should have been a longer session but they saw my hair when I walked in - could have said something. Or better yet when my aunt called for the appointment they should have asked about length if that is a factor in timing. (I would have gladly had my hair washed, product-ed, scrunched, and then sat under a dryer to make it curl up if time were brought to my attention) But blaming this on lateness is being too kind. This stylist was incompetent and negligent. He should consider himself lucky my mother had pre-tipped and I felt pressure to be nice to my family else I would have caused a damn scene. It's been months since my November appointment and I am still seething angry when I think of the damage inflicted on my hair here. read more

The worst customer service. Period. Melissa (short haired manager- who gives the worst blowout), at the front desk is one of the rudest ppl I have ever met. They charge a fortune & do not tell you on Saturday that the pile of products ur buying are 20% off on Sunday. They assume you know. And happily rip you off. They also want a down payment for future services. Impossible to get anyone on the phone. Ur neck hurts during a wash. The entire experience there is so un-accommodating. Go anywhere else. Update to my Previous Review - Got the price matched by Gaby so I ended up paying what was agreed by Grace. Grace said come in and we'll take care of u. So I naively believed that. However, I show up today to the appointment and Ava takes my daughter (the person who's hair is being colored). Ava is super nice and my daughter shows her multiple photos of what she wants and my daughter makes sure to show a photo of what she doesn't want just to be clear. Ava okays everything and starts the process. When we dry my daughter's hair in the end, of course it turns out Ava wasn't listening/didn't care about my daughters comments or requests. My daughter just wanted her hair to look like in the photo. However, this wasn't the case as the end product was very streaky. So another hair colorist (Valerie) took my daughter. To say Valerie was rude is an understatement. Valerie kept on making snide remarks to me and my daughter, questioning where we live, if we can afford the appointment, etc. She 'fixed' it a bit, but we just wanted to leave ASAP at that point, since we were already in the salon for 5 hours and Valerie said condensingly to us that we won't touch my daughters hair anymore and to contact the manager. Overall, my daughter and I are very dissatisfied with the appointment. Ava and the receptionist lady misread the contract to my poor daughter, who signed it. And definitely stay away from Valerie, she is a witch. If we know what was going to happen as the appointment only ruined my daughter's hair, we wouldn't have ever went. read more

Best salon for Brazilian waxes! As someone who gets this service regularly, the hard wax is something I've only seen at Salon 1800. I find it to be less painful and a lot faster than applying wax strips to each area. How it works: Wax is applied in several small areas at once. Once hardened, they can be ripped up one-at-a-time. The hard wax method is a lot faster than strips. I'm usually in and out within 15 minutes. The service is great and everyone is super friendly. They provide nail and hair services as well. I've tried two stylists here. One admittedly was newish, but managed to cut a piece of my hair to about 3" in length at the crown while the rest of it was about armpit length. I assure you that was not the style I requested... On my next visit, I asked for a more tenured stylist and my appointment was set with Valerie. My first cut with her wasn't what I asked for, but admittedly it was a little better. She managed to hide the 3" sprout that her colleague had bestowed on me, and shaped the rest in nice layers. I saw her twice after that. The next time for maintenance, and the cut was just... ehh. But we all have off days, right? I'm half decent with a hairbrush, so I made it work, but I was ready for a change when I went in the last time. So I brought pictures, I was descriptive, I tried all the things. And I walked out of there looking like Justin Bieber's less cool Mexican aunt. It was not cute. Just in case I had any doubts, within 2-3 weeks it grew out looking like a cheap wig. There was an offer to go back for an adjustment, but honestly I just don't ever want to set foot in that place again. The front desk staff and aestheticians upstairs are awesome though. Called to schedule a blowout for an event and received the wrong calendar invite date. No biggie, right? We're human- it happens. I call and have them adjust it and send a new invite after having confirmed with them that there was still availability. My blowout was absolutely awful (everyone else's hair looked amazing around me, though!) and looked as if a toddler did it (my partner laughed when I got home, and I had to wash it out before the event!). I was visibly upset, so the stylist suggested teasing it a bit, but it still looked awful. I'm still obviously upset (and incredibly embarrassed) as I go to pay, and the cashier did the "oh my goshhhh... it looks sooooo good..." (say it in the Mean Girls' movie voice--who does that?). I was also charged $51 instead of $50 (surely they can't be this bad at details). I later called the salon about a refund, to which I was told that they'll only offer me a free credit of some kind. Why would I want to go back? TLDR: make sure you pick your stylist carefully, and triple check everything done by the staff at the front. Edit: I called the location twice when I got home, and two different stylists were trying to walk me through how to fix my hair without having to shower, but it couldn't be saved. Once upon a time, I'd receive a text message to remind me of my appointment. Today, I received a text to remind me to come 5 minutes early. I called the salon and on the third try, finally got a person bs a recording them a hang up. She told me my appointment is in 40 min. I was surprised and told gabby I need to reschedule as I am at work. I can even try for later in the day. She told me they sent me an email and text yesterday, which I did but get otherwise I would've made arrangements. She told me if I reschedule I will be charged 50% and if I reschedule to another date, I'd pay full price for the service.I explained I did not get the reminder and she said my reminder was in June. I did get that email. Silly me for forgetting but I normally get a reminder. While I told her I would dispute this charge as this this was not relayed to me before, she said they've had it for three years, which I've not known. And I would be ok for this charge now, and if rescheduled, applied to my services. It was a definite no, and oh yes, forgive them for the misinformation of the August 8 email she said, on how to reschedule. Before I got off the phone, my cc was already charged the 92.50. That discussion and that charge just caused me never to go there again, , and would certainly relay this message to anyone asking me about that place of business. I don't patronize liars, inadequacy and bad customer service. There are too many salons in the city with talented and courteous stylists, receptionists and business as a whole, to be supporting this righteousness. Yes and oh, by the way, let's not forget the same day cancellation they called me about right before COVID, which I understood, and was courteous due to the circumstances. I didn't ask for payment of my wasted time and inability to make other arrangements with other salons. As a response to the owner response. I think this might need additional review by you because there was no rectification offered by the receptionist, Gaby. My card was charged well before my appointment time.. I will relay my notes to my cc card but may not even take the time to waste on this nonsense. . There was no email within 48 hours. My last email was August 8. No calls. Why text me to remind me to arrive 5 minutes early on the DAY OF MY APPOINTMENT when there was no text of a reminder of my appointment, nor text to remind me except all avenues listed--email, phone call?? That text is what prompted me to call your salon. I think you're covering up what did not happen. Regardless, it cost me 92.50 to make a decision not to reschedule nor remove my view point as a consumer. I showed her a picture of the color I loved and she was able to perfectly translate it into a color that is gorgeous for me without damaging my hair! When I first moved to Chicago, I visited many salons and was never quite happy. I couldn't find someone consistent and reliable. That is until I met Emily! I've been going to Emily for two and a half years and I couldn't recommend her enough. I tell all of my friends to contact Salon 1800 to request her. She's extremely personable and lovely to talk to. Absolutely hilarious. Kind. Approachable. Generous. 2. She genuinely cares about your experience and invests in her clients. I have a tricky work schedule and she always finds time for me. She also always asks about how my life is going and remembers details from previous conversations even if it's been a few months. 3. Unsure of what you want with your hair? She's up to date with current trends and gives great recommendations. I sit down in the chair and simply say "I trust you. Do what you think is best" and I always leave feeling confident and satisfied with my look. She slays like none other. 4. LGBTQ+ friendly. I went into Salon 1800 hoping for a good experience. It was my first time ever getting a perm and a mutual friend suggested a stylist here. The whole experience felt rushed and a little unprofessional but the stylist was nice and I had never gotten a perm before so I wasn't sure how everything was supposed to go. While the stylist was putting the chemicals on my hair they had me hold a towel over my face and at first i had nothing wrapped around my head to protect the sides of my head until a little later. When I got home I felt the back of my head was burning and very itchy. I then realized I had a chemical burn and immense hair loss. Talking to a stylist friend she told me it was definitely a chemical burn and also that the perm wasn't done well either. I quickly reached out to the salon and finally got ahold of a manager and she said she would get back to me. I emailed her pictures almost a week ago now and have not heard back from anybody. THE BACK OF MY HEAD IS BURNED FROM CHEMICALS AND IM MISSING HAIR. This doesn't seem like something to be taken lightly. I will never be returning to this salon, the least they could've done is responded and helped me figure out what to done! read more
