First haircut with Meg was 5 star!! Due to pandemic delays, I hadn't had a cut in almost 9 months. I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror earlier this week and gasped, laughed, and resolved to take action because Scraggly Rapunzel doesn't become me. After looking around at Yelp reviews, I decided to go with Karen Marie based on proximity, and I took an appointment with Meg because I liked her picture. I figured anything was better than current state, which says a lot because I have persnickety hair. Luckily, it was a risky move that panned out for me. Meg sat me down and we had discussion about my hair for a few minutes: she never made fun of the disheveled shape it was in, and she listened to past woes, knowingly. I am a regular customer in this salon, the Karen Marie Salon, and every time I come in, they always do their absolute best to make my hair seem as stunning as it possibly can. The staff is quite pleasant and professional. They always make sure that I am comfortable and let me know in advance what they are going to do with my hair. The last time I came here for some blue highlights, the finished result looked just like the reference photo I'd been using, and it took hours, but it was worth it. I was so thrilled when I went home and immediately snapped a picture of it to share with my friends. And they are also completely taken aback by the outcomes. Hats off to Karen, Trisha Starr and Kara at Karen Marie Salon. By far the best salon experience I've ever had...and so accommodating to both myself and my wedding party for the day of. I met Trisha at Indie Wed, and after meeting with several other salons for price quotes for my wedding, found that KM Salon had the most reasonable prices. I quickly put a hold on my date, knowing they'd fill up fast. Immediately I started coordinating with Kara, the receptionist, who was just plain out amazing. Organized, quick to respond to changes (and there were a bunch!) and just always polite and genuinely nice. We created a timeline for the day of and pricing for each person, which made my life a heck of a lot easier. Trisha Starr is exactly what her name says. A STARR! =) I first let her cut and color my hair...based on a photo I pulled from a magazine. Loved it! She also did my hair and make up for my engagement shoot...people thought I looked like a model. My look was flawless in the photos. For my practice sitting, I was able to show her a few photos and she completely replicated the look...for both hair and make up. Her inventiveness (like using a filler to make my hair look fuller) was very much appreciated. Trisha not only nailed my look, but she also did the hair of two of my bridesmaids...who looked amazing the day of the wedding. And Karen, the owner was lovely. They were nice enough to open for us on a Sunday, even though it's not their typical business hours. And the day of the wedding, they kindly provided us breakfast, mimosas and lots of coffee to kick the day off...which on crazy wedding day was much appreciated. The salon is beautifully designed, the customer is greeted by a lovely receptionist who always asks you what you would like to beverage on and most Important, the salon employs talented stylists. Myself, I see Mallory Rose. She has worked wonders with my color and is helping me work into a cut and style that I can actually do once I leave the salon. Here are experience I had with them: Hair color: My natural hair color is black but I used to have highlights and wanted to dye my hair back to black. I came here to just dye it pitch black. After they finished it, I could clearly see my highlights still. But the hair stylist told me "it's all black and I like it!". Well I literally had to tell them it's not. Sure they were kind enough to do it again to make sure it got all black (I'll credit them for that). But it was definitely not black on the first try and it was very shady that she said it was. Haircut: So I came back here for haircut. Just to trim. I told the stylist I wanna have layers so I get some movement on my hair style. No. She basically chopped my hair off straight. No layers. Plus the length of my hair was very uneven. My left side is longer than my right. The stylist also was very busy taking to the stylist next to her while she was doing my hair. Well I tolerated once. Maybe she just didnt want to do my hair so she quoted me some nutso price so i wouldnt book the appointment or maybe thats how much she actually charges...either way the price is just wrong. I am licensed, I could do my own hair essentially but because its gotten so long I am unable to do it myself anymore. I know how much hair color costs, how long it takes to lighten, and how long it takes to remove color and it does not cost $700. Does she think this is New York City? No, this is Crook County obviously. Run away, far far away. Try your luck somewhere else in the city where they arent trying to scam you to make an extra buck and youll be much better off. read more

I was a number away from dialing Art + when my manager strides in for work looking très chic and lacquer polished. Upon inquiry she produced a referral card for 20% off and I made my appointment. I had grown out my hair after having a buzz cut a while back, it was looking like a choppy mess. I heard about Trisha Star through a friend and researched her site and this salon, I loved that they had before & after photos, and the site was super informative in general. I made the trip and was greeted by a friendly staff, enjoyed a tasty cup of coffee while I waited for her to finish her other client. Trisha listened to what I wanted and really worked with me to get the right cut. She had suggestions and made a few alterations to the cut until I wore the biggest smile! I love this salon! The receptionist Kara is very cheerful, genuine and welcoming. She just seems like she is really on her game and is happy to help you. I feel like that's kind of a rarity lately in the neighborhood. Karen did my highlights/lowlights. She really puts a lot of care and thought into each client. I have rarely done salon visits, but this awesome place has changed my mind! I had my first visit here with Laura several months ago, when I got a super cute layered cut from her. Then last week I finally decided to donate my (mid-back length) hair and go super short (and green!) for the first time. Laura was the only one who came to mind, so I booked with her and she did an amazing job again! It was a majorly drastic change for me and I was pretty nervous, but Laura is not only super skilled but also super nice. I kept going back and forth on what I wanted, and she was very patient and helped me decide. She even tested out several colors for me before going through with dying the pixie cut. I ended up going with a subtle green over my natural brown, and I'm planning on making it more intense next time. The receptionist is great, too. Both of them made sure I was super comfy the whole time and that I left happy. The cut is amazing, I look like a new person and it's been a major confidence booster :) I've gotten tons of compliments and I've given out her card left and right. If you want a great cut and a great atmosphere, definitely give her a call! I wish zero stars was an option. I have never been treated so poorly in my life, as I was at Karen Marie Salon...not only once, but TWICE! The short version is this: After spending approximately $150 in makeup at the salon previously and recommending a friend who is now a frequent customer, I had a color appointment with Karen the week BEFORE MY WEDDING (booked 2 months in advance), and when she saw my hair, she refused to do it. She claimed it would take longer than the time she booked for me, despite having had a consultation 2 months before. This shouldn't have been a surprise. I did however have a great cut by Tricia Starr that day so...... Not learning my lesson I made a cut and condition appointment with Tricia Starr the day I returned from my honeymoon. We had discussed bangs during my last cut and she convinced me she was the one to cut them for me. My appointment was for 7pm. At 6pm, the receptionist called me and said that everyone had been running late all day and Tricia was behind 30 min. She asked me to come in at 7:30p. It was rather inconvenient for me, but I said ok. I really, really, really wanted bangs. At 7pm it started pouring with rain. I admit....I was 15 minutes late due to weather related traffic. However, thinking that Tricia was running behind, and remembering what a disaster my last appointment was, I didn't think it was too big a deal as I thought they would try to impress. They asked ME to come in late after all. BIG mistake. HUGE. I got there and Karen, Tricia, and the receptionist were waiting by the front door, like a gang. They pounced on me the minute I got there (soaking wet after waiting outside for a cab) like mean girls in high school. They informed me that they would not be able to cut my hair, as I was late. I reminded them that they changed the appointment a scant 90 minutes prior, but that didn't matter. They close at 8pm, and nothing is changing that. Not even their own ineptitude. Tricia had plans that she couldn't break, and Karen just shrugged her shoulders as if to say "oh well." I really do try to see the positive.....really. I went back after she refused to do my hair 1 week before my wedding for crying out loud. That day, when she said she wouldn't do it, I didn't cry....I didn't yell. Now, I'm yelling. I told Karen all of this to her face, and in an e-mail. I can't stress enough how disappointed I am with this salon. Best hair cut I've gotten in well over 10 years, if not, ever! I went to Trisha and was told she was a rockstar with long hair. I'm pretty low mantainance nowadays and didn't know what kind of style I wanted. I'm not one of those chicks that brings in a Jennifer Aniston picture and says, "make me look like her" :::puke:::: So I sat down and basically told her what my "styling" habits were and told her what I wanted to achieve with my ultra-straight, asian hair. She was able to manipulate my hair through precision/razor cutting my hair. I don't think she even pulled out a pair of scissors during the whole process. And voila! I had the best hair cut ever! Went here last week to fix a haircut my friend butchered. The environment has a cool lofty spa feel and is eco-friendy! The staff was very approachable and friendly and the stylist who fixed my hair, Trisha Star, did an amazing job on reviving my hair and giving me a whole new look (thanks Trisha!). I'm not one to write Yelp reviews, but after my experience at Karen Marie Salon, I couldn't not rave about my experience. I went in for a color correction with Karen. My hair was initially dyed pink (at home) and I wanted to go to a coppery red. Karen was very honest and transparent about the time and cost this would take. After three hours in her chair, the end result looked exactly like the reference photo I'd used. I went home happy but after a few days I realized it wasn't 100% what I wanted. I called the salon to tell them and , without hesitation they got me in same day to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. Karen was extremely attentive and understanding. She wanted to give me exactly what I wanted, which is exactly what she did. I left the salon earlier tonight, with exactly the tone, shade, and color I wanted.
