So, after I reviewed this place, I visited yelp to review something else and saw the owner's comments which you can see on my review. I understand how a spa works and that therapists step out to let the wraps process etc. I like how the owner seems to think she is informing me of the process. I was commenting upon the aesthetician leaving every few minutes not once but atleast thrice. Also, she was in the middle of application when she left so while the uppity salon folks may think that us customers don't know what the hell we're talking about, I'd say accept the fact that the service was mediocre, apologize and move on. I went to this salon to purchase a wig similar to my hair color. Rella said that she could find a match but when it arrived it was not similar to my color at all. The wig is way too dark and not at all my color. It is very dark in the salon so I did not realize that there was a problem until I had left. When I called I was told I could not return the wig because I had left the store. It is very dark in the Salon so I understand why matching the color would be a problem, but I would not recommend this place at all. read more

If this could be zero stars or negative stars it should be. Hm where to start. Basically I got a groupon as a gift and then was harassed by the massage therapist and screamed at saying I can't get the deep tissue I paid for and that I owe her 20 more dollars. She then proceeded to continue to yell at me when I told her I didn't understand because I paid for a 60 minute deep tissue. She said I can't get that and that it was my fault because I bought a groupon. I paid $60 for a massage. I told her thank you and that I was just going to leave. She blocked the door with her body and started shouting and I began to shake and cry and ask her to please let me out. I walked to the front and was given my money back and told she'd get a talking to and that they understand her and this is normal behavior. The owner was ok. She tried but didn't seem to be surprised or really care too much. I am in shock and I want to sue them. I read reviews about how horrible this salon is but decided to try and I beg you if you're in the same boat DO NOT EVER GO TO THIS SALON. This was the worst experience I have ever had. I am in such shock, I am still shaking. I have never been treated so horribly or ever thought I would fear for my safety in a salon. I'm disgusted. YOUR MONEY WOULD BE BETTER SPENT LITERALLY PISSING IT AWAY. Do not go here. You will be harassed if you use a groupon or a coupon or even a gift card. Horrible experience!! I had a Groupon for a massage, do not use a Groupon here, they do not understand they should treat you as if you are paying full price and they may gain a customer. I should have read the reviews on Groupon before buying as many had the same experience. They harass you to find out what you spent on the Groupon, then harass you to pay for a "better" massage- I said no three times- this continued fifteen minutes into the massage. The room was bright and not relaxing, sheets and blanket mismatched, I worried if even clean. There was a door open to another room( a storage room?) the whole time. Therapist had mask around her chin when I got there- I had doubts she kept on during the massage. She coughed several times too!! I felt like she was leaning on me when she walked around the table, She slopped dripping wet towels on my hands- it was all just odd and not professional at all. Weird loud bird noises that I think were supposed to be relaxing. I left more stressed than when I went in. This is not the place you want to get a massage!! read more

As a breast cancer patient going thru chemo I could not have been more thrilled to find this place thru my hair salon, Ginger Root in St Charles. I was looking for wig tape for my 5 subpar wigs I purchased thru other suppliers. Well when I walked in greeted by the most friendly owner and staff I decided to try on some of the wigs. Fell in love with one immediately. They styled it on the spot and I walked out with it and feeling like a million bucks! There is NO comparison to ANY ok the wigs I purchased previously and at 1/4 of the price. The staff could not have been more compassionate and kind to me. I urge anyone going through the difficult journey of cancer and chemo to head over to Salon 21...simply the best! read more

I am surprised people have been so though on this place! I have been coming in for the past 5 years! My hair was always done by Lisa, who is an amazing hair stylist and whether I wanted to get highlights, low-lights, color or a cut I knew I could trust her! I come in for haircuts but I almost never want to have a big cut... And she understands that. I never left unhappy with her! She is there in the evenings and weekends. As far as salon goes, I never had any issues! Everyone is polite and welcoming! Never had to wait either. I like it. Most places are more expensive, so the price is plus too! read more

I'm writing a good review based on a past experience. I went to this salon for a massage last year.. My therapist was Judy. (still have the business card) I think she was only a part time therapist and had limited hours. She was struggling with her health and apparently had to leave. Despite her difficulties she was a fantastic therapist. I have yet to find a therapist anywhere that made me feel so good. She was knowledgeable, friendly, calm, and professional. I have periodically checked back and she has yet to return to the salon. Too bad, I would travel just about anywhere to get a massage so good. Have not had any other services here, so I cannot confirm other services. Yay for massage. Everyone should get them. read more

Just returned from Salon 21. After years of straight hair, I now have soft curls and love it. Rella evaluated my hair and gave me the perfect body wave. A friend had recommended this salon, so I drove from the city and it was well worth it. Everyone there was friendly. It only took 1 1/2 hrs from start to finish and, voila, I have a new look. I would NOT recommend visiting this salon. I have never written a negative review, and feel bad about doing so, but my experience with this salon was awful and I feel I need to make sure no one else experiences the same. I purchased a Groupon for partial highlights, cut, and style. Upon calling to make the reservation, they asked how much I paid for the Groupon, which I thought was strange. I reiterated what the Groupon stated, as well as the value listed ($120). She told me that if I had long hair, there might be an additional cost, which I understood. (My hair was about halfway down my back, but I wanted to get it cut to shoulder length.) There was actually nothing wrong with the salon experience; nothing special or extraordinary, just a normal service. The stylist actually cut my hair first so she wouldn't need to use as much product for the highlights (which becomes important later). I decided to just go one shade lighter than my natural color and just to lighten the ends so that I don't need to upkeep the color growing out. The worst part of my experience came when I was paying. The stylist again asked me how much I paid for the Groupon, I told her $60, but also restated what the Groupon was worth, and showed it to her. She did some weird thing where she added up the total of my services, and then subtracted $60 saying that's what I paid to Groupon, so I still owed $60 (and that wasn't including tip!). Of course, we all know that doesn't make any sense. Groupon is not a prepayment, it's a coupon, allowing you to save money! I purchased a voucher for highlights, cut, and style, so to say I need to pay $60 on top of that is absurd. I tried to explain that this wasn't correct, but she then told me that because of my long hair I needed to pay the extra amount (strange, because she cut my hair first). Unfortunately, it was Good Friday and I was running super late to service, so I just couldn't stand there and argue. It was seriously the strangest experience ever and I drove home completely perplexed - I've never had to negotiate and explain how a Groupon works, at a salon, or any other business for that matter. Of course, I called the next day to explain that I think I was mischarged. The manager was understanding and agreed, I shouldn't have been charged as much as I was. She thought I was double-charged (which is correct). She asked me to call back after speaking with the stylist. We played phone tag for a couple of weeks, and then when I spoke to the manager again, she had changed her tune. She would not acknowledge that I had been overcharged, explaining that because I have long hair, I needed to pay the extra $60. It was absolutely ridiculous - she wouldn't listen to what I was trying to say. Clearly, this business is only out for the money, and not about keeping customers. I was absolutely appalled by the experience and would strongly recommend not visiting this establishment unless you are prepared to pay a lot more, without any justification. I've only gotten my hair cut here once, it turned out good not great, it could of turned out better for $45. The lady was very nice and polite and for the most part listened to everything I asked for. The only reason I rated this salon a 3 instead of a 4 is because I have come here a few times to get my eyebrows waxed and the lady does a good job and it's not too pricey, however she just always seems to have a stick up her a##... and doesn't seem very friendly. read more

Salon 21 has the most unprofessional, rude, and poorly trained individuals I have ever had the displeasure to meet. This included the owner. I called the salon on a Friday afternoon to ask about wig accessories. The receptionist stated that the salon had wig adhesive and tape tabs available therefore, I said I would be there to purchase the items i needed. When I arrived there was not a client in the salon and I stopped at the door to look at the wigs. Then I went to the reception area to ask about the supplies I had called about and she handed me a baggie with some tape tabs. I asked about adhesive and she said the adhesive was on the tape...I said I meant liquid adhesive for lace front wigs. Along come the "owner" who looked annoyed and said as we both looked on the floor in a box with the wig supplies in it...and she said "these are not ready because I have to talk to them to see if they are for lace wigs or what". I said, but your receptionist stated on the phone that you had what I needed and I drove over 10 miles to purchase what I need. The owner stated with a smug grin on her face (I guess she thought this was humorous), "I am not ready". The front door was open, the receptionist answered the phone, and the salon is listed under local wig supplies. What more does a client need to do to get service at this salon? Also, the rude and uninformed owner was insulted because I knew that her wigs had competition with Internet prices and her markup was outrageous for synthetic wigs. Being a business management major I would expect the owner to be knowledgeable about the competition's a good sign, and grateful for a client who wears wigs and knows what she is looking for. The salon and wig business is about repeat clients and building a relationship of trust, so customer service is what sets a salon apart from the others. I will never visit this salon again nor will I send any of my family or friends to such a poorly run establishment. As a consumer, I do not care for business owners who assume that we are stupid and will pay just about anything for what we want or need. They are intimidated by clients who know the value of salon services, wigs, and wig accessories. Sorry, salon 21 owner but you are not ready to be an business owner. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone! They don't accept the spa finder gift cards. I called to make an appointment and they told me they take them when in fact they do not! I was over charged by $45 and they don't tell you what your paying for! I thought I was charged for gratuity, but she said no.The room where you get your eyebrows done was so cluttered it looked like a small cluttered office. I was the only customer in there and now I know why! I had my hair colored there too and the girl I think forgot about me. all the employees were in the back eating at the same time. I got hair extensions here and they look horrible. I'm actually about to get them taken out. I asked them before I even paid for them if there was any chance they would look good with how short my hair was and they told me my hair would look significantly better and that I would be "amazed". I got the hair extensions a few days after my consultation and I left the salon without my hair even being styled or blended. The ends were so heavy that I had to have my friend who is a stylist texturize and blend them more. Even after that though, they didn't look right. It looks like I just have 2 big chucks of hair in the front of my head. Biggest waste of my money ever. This place is probably okay for cut and color, but I wouldn't recommend ever getting extensions here. I'm incredibly disappointed. read more

Terrible cut & experience! I went in for color touch up & trim. First, the stylist asked me if I was having a boy or a girl and I had to explain that I am not pregnant. She apologized and I was determined to forget about it and try enjoy getting my hair done. The color part had to be done twice which was fine but the roots didn't come out as pretty as before because she put both colors (I was doing a two-tone look with copper under dark violet brown) on the top so the top more reddish the rest of the top layer of my hair. The shampooing was rough and my scalp is still sore. But the real trouble came with the cut. I had come for a trim. I really liked the cut I had had & wanted to maintain it. It had been an angled cut longer in front and shorter in back. I asked for a trim of about half an inch. She took less off in the back and layered the front so I have awkward hair that looks like bangs that are in the process of growing out on one side. The front is at least four inches shorter than I would ever want. Afterwards, she complained that I was making her feel bad and argued that you can't have layers and an angled cut and that the back had looked bad before and was just completely inappropriate about it. She butchered my hair and it will take several months before I can get anything approaching what I wanted. I will be living in headbands. She gave 20 percent off and I was given a 25 percent discount card when I left but I will never be returning. Discounts won't get me my hair back or make up insulting my hairstyle tastes. When I got there, there were 2 ladies at the register who were too busy talking to each other to really greet me, they told me to have a seat in a manner that made it seem as if I was interrupting them, even though there were no other customers in the salon. The lady that cut my hair was really rude and didnt listen to me when I told her what I wanted for my (long, thick, curly) hair. It turned out TERRIBLE. I seriously can't go outside without straightening it because it looks so bad. For example, I specifically told her that I needed a lot of layers at the bottom so that the curls dont bunch up, but I ended up getting exactly what I didnt want. Also she cut some really short pieces that stick up in weird directions. I am certain that it is because the lady didnt even look at my hair beforehand or listen to what I wanted- she just wanted to get the job done and get some money, so she spent 15 minutes doing a generic haircut. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Especially if an angry looking old lady wants to cut your hair. With customer service and employees like this, it is obvious why the salon was empty. read more

I was disappointed with my pedicure. The polish chipped off on both big toes within a day of the pedicure. I inquired about choosing one of the pedicures from the menu when I made the appointment, the person that took my call said "you can just do an add on when you come in" I was never offered anything different when I came in. I was willing to pay more. My feet didn't really feel great when the pedicure was done it was ok, but just ok. For $40+ it should be better than ok. I've been searching for a regular salon to go to and I'm hard pressed to find anything that makes me want to keep coming back. I'm sorry this is one I won't be back to. read more

This salon is a best kept secret, get over there!!!! . As a former big C survivor who pushed through the the hair losing treatments while still working, I absolutely needed and wanted to look the best I could when facing the work world.....The wigs at this place are awesome.... the selection is amazing and they are certified to cut them to customize to your face, style, and personality. I have purchased 4 wigs here, over the course of my treatments and aftermath, each one equally 'tres chic' and so natural looking... You can actually walk in and out with a custom wig and cut that looks and feels better than your own hair and a tremendous boost to morale....I actually walked in out each time with an easily maintainable, gotta make that train, on the go, really great look! Of course in the long run, you want your own hair back, so when mine came in frizzy and scary, Rella worked her magic and actually straightened what I thought was a trashed and hopelessly frizzy fuzz-mat into silky straight and shiny beautiful hair. I felt like I got my identity back! The process was simpler than I thought, will last for 3 months, and I actually walked out with my own hair looking soft and silky like the wig selection there. Rella is a real pro, she does amazing cuts, and knows hair inside and out. Her salon service is excellent! read more
