Restoration Salon is basically a group of stylists renting space from the owner. Each stylist schedules their own appointments, though there is a central phone number, you can't book through it. I had a cut and partial highlight with "Lisa B." who is new to the city and was quite pleased. She had a get to know you special package which was awesome. She did great with the color and cut. The salon doesn't feel very cohesive though. Certainly not a place I would have a day at the spa or expect multiple services. I felt like I was in someone's house, not a business. read more

Friendly staff but worst haircut / highlights of my life. I was with a master stylist and asked for white highlights (they turned out uneven in color and the front one didn't process long enough and is gold), and my haircut ... Omg where do I start?! I have super straight, thin hair and typically just cut straight along the bottom. The ends of my hair felt really damaged when I left (after clearly requesting not to blow dry or use a round brush on my hair) and she insisted it'd be fine. The next day I washed my hair and looked at it in the mirror. The ends were so insanely uneven that I could've done a better job myself! The ends were literally butchered and then full of split ends the next day. I ended up getting the ends trimmed off at Hair Cuttery and couldn't be happier. read more

The short story: service is nice enough but it better be for the prices! But the quality of the service was unfortunately not nearly worth the price. I won't be going back. Longer Story: Got a gel manicure and a pedicure. It took about 2.25 hours which is too long for my liking. ***Also they have a very, very limited selection of colors*** - especially gel. Essie regular colors and then some other brand for the gel. I don't like any brands besides Essie and OPI so I was not happy with this. About the manicure: the girl left a significant lapse between my cuticle and the polish, which for gel is annoying since you want it to last a long time. It looked like they had grown out for a week right when I left. About the pedicure: it was done fine and I was pleased enough, however an hour after I got home I put on my shoes (I had worn sandals there so they had ample time to dry), and when I took them off after a quick trip to the store, my whole left big toe nail was ruined! Nic is amazing! I can always trust him 100% with my hair knowing he will go above and beyond to give me that perfect hair style I want! Honestly Chicago is such a huge city but I wouldn't want anyone else to do my hair but nic! Hes super sweet very charming and we always have great conversation. He uses Kevin Murphy products that make my hair feel so good. The salon is so modern and inviting. The receptionist is super sweet and very attentive asking if I need anything ! Michael Stechly is a massage therapist at Salon 9nb. I have been getting massages for about 8 years through my chiropractor, but since my insurance has changed, I have needed to look elsewhere for back pain relief. Michael's massage was the BEST I have received in years! I can't emphasize this enough. His price was reasonable, and beyond worth it. He took time to understand my back problems, and we discussed how he might help. Afterwards, he gave me some exercises and stretches to help me sustain relief. Wow. I popped in randomly for a manicure. Everyone was as nice as could be. The nail portion of the salon is still pretty new so there aren't loads of colors to choose from but there were plenty for me. Uka was one of the best manicurists that I've had. My nails look fantastic. This salon isn't particularly close to where I live or on my way anywhere, but I'll be back for sure. I'm a huge fan of Salon 9nb! I regularly stop in for cuts and color but I recently received a gel mani from Uka. I was heading to Europe for business for 2 weeks and was hesitant to get one - if it started chipping while I was over there, I wouldn't be able to do much about it. That gel manicure lasted me four - yes, FOUR - weeks without a single chip. I finally had to get a new one but only because my nails had grown out so much. Ask for MIYA if you come to this salon. She has been my stylist for the last 3 years and I adore her. I originally was her client at a different salon but came with her to this salon. Before her I could never find a good stylist. Since I've been seeing her my hair has never looked better. Also, I had never been able to grow my hair out prior to seeing her because I have fine, thin hair and stylists would often give me weird layers. With Miya, she knows what looks best with my hair type and my hair is now the longest it's been in awhile. Miya is also fabulous with color. In addition she gives me keratin treatments which make my hair shiny, anti-frizzy, and strong -- the treatments lasts for a few months. I highly recommend Miya to all my friends. read more

It was my first Brazilian so I was definitely nervous going into it but she made me feel comfortable right from the start! She is very warm and easy to talk to which I always appreciate. I've been coming to this salon the majority of 2015. I'm not usually a 'salon' kind of guy, but this place has a welcome, neutral atmosphere. I wouldn't have ever probably walked in the door if my guy Stosh hadn't started here. I've been going to him for three years, maybe more, and followed him around through a few transitions. This place is a little more pricey than Hair Cuttery, but the difference in quality is worth it. Glad Stosh has found somewhere that's more on par with his talent. I'll keep going to Stosh until I leave Chicago or lose my hair. Whichever comes first. read more

Firstly, I don't have any personal grudges with anyone at this salon ( they all were courteous) and I refrain writing negative reviews, but the experience I had needs to be shared. I got a haircut and hair color done here. I usually go to high-end salons, but, this time, somehow, got tempted to save some $ ( used Groupon) and landed up with the worst haircut of my life. No texture whatsoever, it all looks like plain straight snips. And the hair color is no better than the coloring done at home. Those gray fly- aways right on my forehead and by ears tease me every single time I see mirror. I saw reviews about this hairstylist and made sure that I get service from her. But it turned out that all she did was gave me lecture about my hair's health and brag about their services. She cut my hair without washing them (had I known, I would have cleaned before going there) ,and prepared the color without even taking my approval ( forget the discussion) for the color. I would not mind all this , if the result was good. I am going spend some more and get some finishing to my hair cut and buy some root touch ups and it sucks as it has not even been a week :(( This salon is a mediocre salon in a very nice location and some awesome pictures over the net. read more

I purchase a Lifebooker Loot and made an appointment with JEANNA, that morning I called her to confirm, she didn't anserwed and I left a message, I was so happy because it was my weeding anniversary and I was going out with my husband to celebrate. I got to the Salon on time, she was not there yet, the girl at the front desk called her and also left a message. I waited and waited........ she never showed up!! One of the stylist explained that they couln"t help me because the Loot was her own advertising, that she rents the chair and it was not their fault, that she is very irresponsible and have done this to clients before. After the waist of time I had to get it done somewhere else. I went here and saw Lisa B and she did a fabulous job! I am VERY picky about the color and size of my highlights and she created a beautiful color that looks very natural. Not only was this the most rude place I've been too, but they gave me a haircut that was uneven for $65. I could go to Aveda Institute and get a $15 haircut that is better. I could cut my own hair without a mirror better than they did. The stylist was rude, poked and prodded my head, and did not care what I wanted out of the haircut. Thanks toolshed! I started going to Restoration Salon when I lived in Lakeview. Even though I have since moved to the Ukranian Village/West Town area, I go back to Restoration and my stylist, Lisa, for my cut and color every couple of months. Lisa is phenomenal!! She is the reason I go to the salon! I typically walk in with a vague idea of what I want and Lisa takes it away from there. Not only am I ALWAYS thrilled when I walk out of there, but I spend the hour and a half laughing. I purchased a no chip manicure from Living Social and all in all the experience was pleasant, which is the only reason I'm leaving two stars instead of one. In less than a week, three separate nails have chipped or peeled off. I have been getting no-chips for years and previously worked for a salon and that is just not the standard I hold for the lasting power of my manicures. I bought a lifebooker deal for 3 blow outs and had to call all of their 3 locations to find out HOW to get the booking in place for an appointment in 3 days for a wedding, as each location said the deal is not valid on their location. Then I was told Jeanna - the woman supposed to be doing these blowouts should be contacted directly as she's an independent contractor at Restoration Salon and all profits will go to her so she needs to be contacted directly. I was first given a wrong number, then I called back the salon and got her working number. Once I had the right number that lady would not pick up her call for 2 days straight! I called her at multiple times for two days but no response, no calls returned. Her voice mailbox was full and I could not leave a message. I was so frustrated and disappointed! Finally I decided to call lifebooker and after being put on hold a million times and disconnect another gazilion times they told me they have processed my refund but I haven't received any email yet. This happened about 3 hrs. ago. I'll check to see if I receive a refund in next week or so as they claimed. Piece of s*&#%! read more

I got a hair cut here a few weeks ago, and the stylist curled my hair at the end and it looked great. After I got home and washed my hair, I realized that he layered my hair so inconsistently that it looks like there is a huge chunk missing. I'd give Charles May 10 stars if I could. This says it all: I fly to Chicago a few times a year to see Charles May at Restoration. Actually, "Restoration" is irrelevant; Charles is the draw. He's been styling my hair for about 18 years.When I moved to San Francisco 8 years ago, I flew Charles out to style the hair for the wedding party. People still talk about how terrific we all looked, and that includes the guys. I have never had a bad cut in 18 years. His color sense is terrific and he always repairs whatever damage the sun and mediocre salons out here do to my hair. He always does the right thing, so I trust him 100%. When I got divorced back in '01, Charles gave me a fabulous cut & color to update my look, saying, "We have to get your head back in the dating scene." Well, it worked, right? Charles is a pro, he's confident but not arrogant. He listens to what you want, but will explain "why not" if you're asking for something that may not work with your particular hair and face, etc. And he's always learning, going to styling seminars and staying current with new techniques and styles. Charles May is a Master and it's worth coming back to sweet home Chicago for his styling and color. Simply the Best. read more

Irene is amazing - there really is no other word to describe her (well besides hysterical - she makes a few hours in the chair too much fun). When I first moved to Chicago in 2006 I had the hardest time finding a really great hair stylist...then I found Irene. Through moves to Miami, Colorado and Michigan, I have continued to go to her the entire time - YES she is that amazing. The best part is she can do any length, texture, color etc. I receive compliments on my color pretty much every single day and her blow outs are to die for (i can rock that baby for dayyys). I have referred countless friends there and they are now all believers as well. She is about to do my wedding party in October and thank goodness because there is no one I trust with my hair more!! read more

I get a GREAT haircut , it's reasonably priced- and I always get lots of compliments on my hair after an appointment. The salon is clean and the staff are friendly and not pretentious.
