Mary is the absolute worse! She cancelled on my friend multiple times and even lied and told her that she was injured and no longer did hair.... WOW. When I asked her if she and I were still on for my appointment, she just didn't bother to message back. Super disappointed. Now I'm stuck with Groupon bucks that can only be used on certain things. I've reported it to Groupon and they weren't very happy with having to do multiple refunds due to her lack of decency. Way to screw people over. OMG what a beautiful salon, open to air, next to train station, big comfy salon chairs. Ask for Mary. She does a great job, is quick and knows her stuff. She gives you what you ask for. I have been to other salons where a half inch turns out to an inch and a half. Mary gives helpful suggestions as well but isn't pushy about buying products or services you don't need or want. I will definitely be back and see her. You can listen to the train whistles while you relax and take in the fresh air. It is like having your hair done in a natural setting. Charlotte has been cutting and coloring my hair for over 12 years. She is an expert with both styling and high quality, non-toxic color applications. I've changed from a short, pixie style to a longer chin length that I absolutely love. She helped me make the transition seamless. She does a two step process on the color to first darken the roots and then she adds highlights. The results are perfect for a youthful, sunlit appearance. (I've personally noticed that since Covid, there is a bit of a lag to connect with new operators.) This is an individual operator, whose price point gives a good quality product--in my opinion. It's not a fancy salon but homey with tasty teas to sip on. I had long, dark brown, healthy virgin hair. I asked Charlotte from salon amour for a balayage. What I got was gray hair, so much breakage and the worst customer service experience I have ever had. She made me cry. The experience began after bickering with her husband in front of me and calling him an idiot. After that she began taking it out on my hair. The bleach was left on far too long and now my hair is platinum blonde AKA white, as well as dark brown and such a chunky mismatch of color. She took me to the sink where she sprayed me with freezing water, followed by scalding water after I asked that she turn up the heat. I've never had a stylist pour water in my ears so much, but Charlotte did. When I asked her for cotton balls to keep my ears dry inside she began berating me that she can't do everything all at once. A week later my ears are still sore from all the water and product in them. Then I noticed the back of my sweater also got bleached. She didn't care. When she blew out my hair, I saw that it was straight up gray. Some pieces white, the rest my natural color. It looked like a bad Snapchat filter. I told her this is not what I asked for. She said I was lying and wrong and that I had asked for gray hair. She tried to make me feel bad and threatened to charge me $350 despite our agreed upon price of $160. She told me I don't know the value of a dollar. (I work minimum wage and getting my hair done is a huge treat I haven't been able to do for myself in years, so yes I do! How dare she say that.) I was hesitant to let her do any more but I couldn't leave with gray hair. I went back to the bowl and she toned it, but it's still so gray and gross. When she blow dried my hair, white pieces of hair that were so bleach-damaged began flying off my head. When it came time for payment she got all fake-nice in a way that would make anyone's stomach turn, but I have never been treated so poorly. This is the owner of the salon. I would encourage you to take your business elsewhere. Literally anywhere else. You've been warned. Meanwhile I am trying to soak my hair in oils and trim off the breakage in an effort to save my hair. The worst experience, all around, I have ever had. Zero stars. read more

At this location and Salon Helene in Carlsbad. I asked for a Shag style haircut frame around my face. I also asked if she had experience with this cut. She was very confident. I was surprised when she was done. I stated that I liked it to be framed around my face. I combed it myself and explained how I like it to fall. As she was cutting she stated that she used alot of styling product in my hair. I than noticed that she switched to her thinning shears which, I don't like used on my baby fine texture hair. I again asked to comb it myself and it's not laying right. I saw Mary was getting frustrated and she said something like she would cut it differently but it's what I wanted ?? She was very hesitant to do anything else. Now very nervous I figured that after I wash & blow dry it myself it would be ok. Wrong! I called and texted Mary leaving her many messages. I asked her to see if a stylist in her salon could fix my hair ASAP for I was leaving the following day for a family reunion & my son's graduation. I did not receive a return call or text from Mary. Very unprofessional! I requested a refund after having much difficulty finding a stylist available to recut my hair. After weeks of zero follow up from Mary I decided to write this review. Unfortunately, I had one of the worst experiences w my hair in all my years of coloring. It was bad enough (see pics) that I ended up asking if she would reimburse me (and of course keep the tip for her time) but she refused and said she'd fix it. I don't want it fixed by her. I'm terrified how it would come out or if my hair would end up falling out. My hair was broken off (pic) from my jawline, now into minI bangs. This is my appearance. This means something to me. This isn't okay. Truly, she (Charlotte) couldn't be nicer, but her skills w blondes is questionable. I dislike leaving negative reviews, but when she won't honor someone's money back after doing a shotty job on their hair, I find it rather disturbing and I feel people should know what they're getting into. I spent 170.00 and now I have to get a color correction by someone else who knows what they're doing and will probably cost me a good 200.00. Again, her not reimbursing me is mind blowing - at least offer partial refund for a cruddy job! If she was offering to correct it, then she knew it was this bad. This review is for Charlotte St Amour who is now at at Studio 7 at Sola Salon in Encinitas since I do not find a specific Yelp page just for her new location in Encinitas. I purchased a Groupon for highlights and cut and spent several days leaving VM and text messages to make an appointment. When Charlotte finally got back to me, I made an appointment for a MONTH later. I texted her the day before to reconfirm, and only received a reply around 8 pm reconfirming my appointment at 10 am the following morning. On my way to the salon, (half an hour away), I receive a text saying Charlotte is running late and to come at 10:15. Okaaay - so I walk in to the building at 10:15 and the door is locked although I can see lights on and hear people talking. I knock on the door & no one answers. At 10:30 I text and ask what the ETA is. The door opens and Charlotte is mid-treatment doing someone else's full head of highlights and instructs me to wait outside until SHE is ready for me. So I have already wasted a half hour drive, waited another half hour, and now come to find out she has double booked and expects me to wait even longer. NO THANKS!! Obviously Charlotte does not care at ALL about trying to get new clients and thinks it's perfectly fine to waste YOUR time waiting hours for her. And the fact that she double books means she will not be giving you one-on-one attention which any paying client deserves when it comes to chemical treatments. She kept ditching me couple times pretending she's sick,another time she's vomiting and so on. Where do I start....? I had booked an appointment for full highlights (at groupon price) with Mary Brodie for a friday morning appointment. She called me the night before to confirm but then to ask to move the appointment to sunday because her tortoise was foaming at the mouth.... The moment I sat down sunday morning she asked if I wanted my hair blow dried..What?? Of course I do I'm paying for you to do my hair and I want to see what it looks like once its done................ From the beginning I told her that I liked my dark roots and I wanted it to just look natural. NATURAL! She began to quickly slap a few random foils on the underneath of my hair ....(since when is that full highlights...?) The whole time she was ranting on about how much of an asshole her boyfriend is and how he goes days without wanting to see her or talk to her. I can see why now. As she was about to wash my hair she said the color "honey" and I said "that sounds orange." She quickly got flustered and walked away overwhelmed to get a color chart saying "don't micromanage and let me do my job" Wow. Excuse me??? I am a customer and am paying to get what I had asked for, I have EVERY right to ask what a color means. She began to belittle me saying that I changed my mind... I never changed my mind because she had never told me which toner color she was going to use to begin with?????? She kept repeating that she has been doing hair for 16 years and she specializes in blondes. The line alone "don't micromanage me and let me do my job" - I should have walked out right there. As she began to dry it I noticed the big color differences throughout my hair. The sides were extremely light the top of my head was brassy. I pointed out the right side of my head above my ear how light it was and that there were harsh extremely noticeable lines that did not look natural whatsoever. Mary told me that I could come back in for a toner a "quick 10 min fix" I stopped her and said okay can we do it now so I didn't have to come back. She said that now she is short on time and I would have to come back. She also added that usually after about 2 days people change their minds and begin to like it after all. (usually as in this happens a lot..?) Mary kept repeating "its your hair and your happiness but its my reputation so if I say I will fix it - I will fix it or give you a complete refund." The next morning I texted her asking asking when would be a good day and time to come in for the toner. She read it but no response. Later that night I called - no answer, no text. The following day I called 2-3 times and also called the salon and left 2 messages. At this point, forget the toner, I am not allowing this girl to work on my hair ever again. I want a refund. After her ignoring my calls for 2 days, I had to physically show up in the salon to confront her and ask for my money back. She told me that it was her dogs birthday and that's why she did not respond to me after two days. She refused to give me my money back and told me that she "never said a refund" her reason for not giving me a refund was that she spend 3 hours of her time on it. I myself spent the same amount of time out of my day wasted and then had to pay someone else to fix what she had done. I found an AMAZING hair stylist that was able to fix Mary's mess! Her name is Meghan at Entourage Salon. She is honest, reasonable, and went over everything that she was going to do to fix it, and I could not be happier with the outcome of Meghan's work. She is extremely professional and listened to exactly what I wanted and gave me the natural look I was asking for. Mary is a compulsive liar, extremely unprofessional, and is awful at listening to what her customers want. This is the reputation Mary is asking for with handling customers like she did with me. I also purchased a Groupon with Mary, didn't have trouble booking appt, but maybe I didn't mention it was a groupon and that was why. Got there and the salon is nice, good location and ambiance. Bought full highlights and cut. When she finished my hair I had complete lines throughout my head. I pointed it out to her and she claimed that it was because my hair was wet. She told me if I had any issues that she would fix them when I returned from my vacation (which I was leaving for the next night!) Well when I got home the lines were still there and it was so obvious. There was no way I could let it be. So I texted her asking if she can fix sooner; NO RESPONSE! She knew she wasn't going to bother with me again! If you want to offer groupons for new clients, then we should not get punished for using them. I had to pay someone today to fix my hair; another almost $100. I would not suggest going to this salon when they have stylists whose work reflects this. I have never had such bad highlights. Also to not have common courtesy for a response is so rude. I should have waited to tip her until she fixed the mistake, but I didn't feel that was right on my part. She definitely did not do the right thing and doesn't do a good job. If I could give zero stars I would. I purchased a Groupon for full highlights etc. with Mary. The morning of my appointment she texted me to say she needed to reschedule as her Tortoise had a seizure. I willing rescheduled and showed up for my appointment a few days later only to be met by a very frazzled Mary. She told me my appt was for partial highlights. I explained it was for full highlights plus root touch-up as had been previously scheduled. She seemed very annoyed, implied it was my mistake (I specifically explained what I needed when I made the appointment) and then told me she had another appointment in 30 minutes and was very busy. After explaining the color root touch-up and highlights I wanted (the same way I've had it done for ten years) SHE TOLD ME what color she was going to do. When I politely told her I thought the root color was too dark (why would I want to color my roots the same ashy color they already were, instead of matching the rest of my blonde hair) she insisted she had 16 years of experience and said "we aren't a good match so get a refund from Groupon". She was absolutely right about that. Failing to schedule enough time between appointments, not respecting your clients wishes, treating them rudely in front of others and being a complete flake makes you not a "Good Match" for anyone. Charlotte is a great hairdresser! I go there every three month to do straight my hair that is very curly, full and coarse. I like the root very straight ! It is a lot of work, but worth every minute. She is very patient and the result is amazing. The product that she uses is very good, with vitamins and minerals, what makes my hair very healthy ,no harsh chemical involved ,just time and care. I got the same comments as the other bad revue... Don't micromanage me, let me do my job, I have been doing hair for..... I came in for full highlight,I told her that I like it really really blond. She said no problem, she has done hair for very long and knows how to do it. I also said that I wanted lots of highlights, and again she said the same line,I know what I'm doing. She was done very quick with adding foils, and I sat just long enough to drink my cup of tea when she said time to rinse. I asked her if she was sure... because I do not want yellow highlights. She did not like me asking that. She told me that I made her really uncomfortable by telling her how to do her job. She game me a quick cut and told me how if I tell her to cut an inch I'll get an inch cut off. I could already see that my wet hair was darker than usual, she added a toner (I'm thinking that's what made me so dark and ashy because I never use toners)without asking if I wanted one. After drying my hair and she turned me around so I could see myself, she asked how I liked my blond hair. I told her that I was now darker then when I came in... she said that was not possible because she had stripped my hair with bleach..., I knew that there was no use to argue with her, I paid and was getting ready to leave, and she mumbles something like; Well I hope you like your hair, and Don't ever tell your next hair dresser how to do her job. The salon is a beautiful place. And it appeared that the stylist there provided great service. Unfortunately Mary who goes by Hair By Mary on Groupon has been a big disappointment. I went to her for the first time in December and expressed my desire to allow my blonde hair to start growing in the gray and to get a pick me up in color and it appeared everything went fine. I went back to her in January and she totally ruin my hair. I spent quite a long time getting my hair did the perfect color of blind and it is now orange and Ash and some ugly color of brown all throughout the back. It looks dirty underneath the blonde and it never did before. I called her a couple days after I had received so many other comments regarding my hair and not a positive way and she never return my phone call or text. Interestingly enough she returned my communication immediately when I was booking an appointment for her. I was not angry or blaming her I just wanted to know if she could fix it or if she had any thoughts about it and she absolutely after several text never returned any of them and I'm left with a mess that I've got to pay to get cleaned up. I have used stylists all over north county, including a very high-end (a.k.a. expensive) salon in Rancho Santa Fe. I've never really been happy with my hair, until I found Charlotte! I feel so lucky to have found her. She came as a referral from my best friend. There are many reasons I love Charlotte: she LISTENS to you! She even enters the exact formula and weave style she used during your last visit into her laptop, and takes the time to review it before she starts. She asks you if you liked it at the time, and if you like it today. I've never had a stylist take the time to do this. She uses high quality, non-toxic, vegan products. And she always asks her product reps if the products are good for the environment and never tested on animals. The result is a beautiful, natural color. She's a professional: she has been a salon owner for over 20 years. Her newest salon is light, bright, beautiful, peaceful, and private (not shared by a ton of other stylists with blaring rap music.) I love Charlotte, she has been cutting and coloring my hair since I moved to Carlsbad 5 years ago. Every cut and color has been amazing!! She takes the time to listen to what I want, and if I don't know what I want, she still dazzles me and helps me look and feel amazing about my hair. I have been going to Salon Amour for two years now as I followed Mary here from her previous studio. I asked Mary for a change and perhaps a red tone to my blond hair. She advised that we take it in steps since red is definitely a decision, and a statement. What she used was a soft caramel color at my roots along with highlights. I like it. So glad she advised to go I stages because the color I have now is perfect for me. The caramel has a bit of red but not a lot. Just right. I bought a groupon for Hair by Mary. I made an appointment with Mary on Sunday. I asked for an appointment for Wednesday and she said she wasn't available that day, so we scheduled it for Thursday at 5:30pm. I had someone to pick up my daughter just so I could make it to this appointment and when I called her about 10 minutes before the appointment to confirm the address, she called back 20 minutes later and said it's next Thursday. She never told me it was next week when I made the appointment, she said I will see you Thursday. As I was already in the vicinity and took time as a single mother to have something special done for myself which isn't frequent at all, she treated me as disposable and my time invaluable. I looked through these other reviews for this salon and Charlotte has great reviews but every one of Mary's is horrible. I should have read this before buying the Groupon, but Groupon had all these rave reviews about her. Now I'm trying to get my money back from Groupon as I told Mary she is very unprofessional and to "forget her" and I will get my money back then she texted me and accused me of cussing at her and stating she was cancelling my appointment for next week. read more
