I had an appt at 18|8 but was once again dissappointed to learn that my stylist wasn't working there anymore. I had to have someone else cut my hair. I was sat with a pretty stylist named Holly...who actually ended up doing a better job with my hair than the last three people I'd gone thru at 3 different 18|8 location! Needless to say, I took her card afterwards and called three weeks later for another haircut. I was told that she wasn't there anymore either!! I was so bummed. As I was sitting in my car, I remembered that Holly had written her personal number on the card she gave me so I found the card and called her. She had just moved to a salon I'd never been too called Salon Avella and could take me in the morning. Stoked, I scheduled the appt. Right off the bat, I noticed how positive the vibe was in this hip new salon. I recognized a few people who'd been working at 18|8 in the past and now they worked here. You could literally feel good energy flowing through the place. Everyone seemed much more relaxed, seemed to be having fun being at work and much happier to be working at Avella as opposed to 18|8. Everyone was friendly, the atmosphere was cozy and I immediately felt right at home. Holly styled me up, did a fantastic job with my not so easy style and treated me like an old friend. I was and am thoroghly pleased with this Salon and I'm thankful that I've found my next long term hair stylist. I appreciate it when someone is honest with you and tells you whether or not certain colors or styles will work for your hair and Tara definitely keeps it real. She does a great job and takes time with your hair. I love that she is very flexible with time considering that I have crazy work hours. Love her! read more

The only reason why I'm giving this place three stars is because the staff is completely nice and welcoming & I received a really good price on my hair, but I was not happy with how my hair came out. My stylist did not listen to what I wanted, I mean my hair is okay, but it's not what I wanted. It was like she rushed my hair...within my first wash I looked like an orange lion! Texted her and the only advice was to tone it with purple shampoo...really? Megan is the most amazing colorist I've ever seen. I've gone from virginal medium brown hair to blonde to red and back again and my hair always receives so many compliments! Tara did a great job giving me the exact style I had asked for. I simply showed her a picture on my blackberry of what I wanted and she went snipping away, she asked questions throughout to make sure she was giving me the right length, angle, texture etc. and the end result was fantastic. As a guy, I use to go to the cheapest place possible, but I found the experience tiring and unpredictable. Although the costs for my hair cuts are higher, I appreciate having regular appointments and not having to worry about a bad haircut. Selah does have a good eye for the latest styles in men's hair and what type of hair cut would be appropriate. My experience with Selah has always been pleasant and I'm very happy she takes her career so seriously. I won't mention the name of my stylist (only because it may make it difficult to schedule with her later...haha...you know who you are!), but she has been one of the best color specialist I've had in my past 20 years of "disguising my natural highlights". She's always consistent and does a fantastic job with haircuts too. I frequently receive compliments on my hair color/style. You can easily see that she really loves her job - and does it well! The other stylists that have worked on my hair, when she hasn't been available, have been great! I really enjoy the atmosphere at this salon.
