I walked into Salon Celine not knowing what I wanted to do with my hair. Lucien asked me many questions about what I would like.He kept asking me questions as he was cutting to make sure I was happy with the length.Then he asked me what color I would like. He suggested some possibilities based on my skin tone. What we decided upon together was perfect. He is a master of coloring and highlighting. The cut was perfect for my face and easy to take care of. That cut and coloring made me feel like another person, a very happy person. Lucien is le maestro. This place is a HUGE SCAM! DON'T GO HERE! I bought a $60 Groupon for a hair cut and single process color. I understood there may be a $30 fee for long hair (I have medium length hair). AFTER they redeemed my voucher and did the entire consultation, they told me it would be a $65 charge because I had "a lot of hair." The woman working the desk had the audacity to tell me "but you understand, you will be coloring ALL your hair." Yeah. That's what I expected when I bought a hair color package. They actually wanted to charge me MORE than the Groupon. I wasted time and gas getting there and back. They easily could have told me this when I walked in and they saw me. Then again, they could also not run a business. I think I'd go with the latter. Luckily, Groupon refunded me. I also recommended they take them off the site because clearly they don't understand the concept. This was not for a discount. I paid for a service, and then they shamelessly exploited the fact that I was already there. Lucien even told me "THIS IS NO WAY YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE!" when I said I wasn't going to pay more than I paid for the Groupon. So incredibly rude. The staff was friendly and helpful, and I enjoyed my time at the salon! Lucien is very attentive to your wants, while also offering his creative ideas, and he and I had a lovely conversation as he worked. I got some red highlights and a trim on my pixie cut. I've read (understandably) angry reviews about upcharges for long hair, but they did warn about that when I called for an appointment. Like several of the posts below mine, I was lured into Salon Celine via a Groupon offer for a cut, highlight and conditioning treatment. My experience was not bad at all. True, they did let me know that a blowdry would be an additional fee, but I am easy going enough to understand that and did not care if I had one either way. I guess my experience differed from others because I was going in for an all over color, not highlights. Lucien successfully matched my roots to the color of my hair, gave me a great conditioning treatment that literally left my hair feeling shiny for days, and then ended the appointment with a small trim and bang cut above the brow. The salon was small but clean, they were friendly, and offered great products for sale behind the counter / around the store. I bought a groupon for this salon a while ago. I came in and was greeted by a friendly woman. I did want to get full highlights and although that's what the groupon said they decided to charge me extra because my hair was long. That wasn't the most desirable thing to heat but understandable. Lucien is nothing short of a miracle worker. After a couple of months with faded color and the leftover bleach and a whole year worth of damage, he gave me the most beautifully blended highlights and left my hair looking healthier than it had in months. Geez, I may be the first positive reviewer for this salon. Disclaimer: I don't work for Salon Celine and I'm not affiliated in any manner. Had to put that out there. Bought a Groupon for color & cut with moisturizing therapy. Location: Plenty of parking. Beautiful interior with open floor plan. Neat product display. Receptionist: Pleasant. Older woman. She offered me beverages when I was waiting for Lucien. She offered again while I waited for my color to set. I opted not to do the cut since I had a trim two weeks prior, so she gave me a $10 off coupon for my next visit as I was checking out. Cleanliness: Unswept hair at one station, but removed before I was led to the chair. Lucien: Personable. Informative. Speedy. I have long black hair. Black black. I actually wanted to get a lighter color. Light brown. Lucien advised me against it since it would mean stripping my hair and that would make it more dry and dull. I've heard this before from a previous stylist so I know he wasn't being "lazy". But I have grays. Yes, I know I don't look a day over 20 (ha!) but I have premature graying. Lucien said that he can touch up the roots & blend everything. Fine by me. He was very efficient with applying the color to small sections at a time. No mess on my head afterward. Shampoo/Moisturizing Therapy: The shampoo lady was friendly and talkative. Sorry didn't quite catch her name, but she was younger with wavy hair. She did a thorough job at washing my hair. She asked about water pressure and whether I wanted a soft or hard massage. I like it hard. Erg. After a couple of shampooing, she applied the moisturizing treatment to my hair, walked me over to the dryer, asked if I wanted anything to drink before leaving me at the whims of the heater for 10 mins. Then a wash again, but she informed me that she'd rather not wash all the conditioner off so that I would still have the moisturizing treatment in my hair. Blow Dry: It's an extra cost. I've been to salons where blow drying was included. I've been to places where they weren't. This salon didn't include it, but since I didn't do the cut, they gave me 60% off the service. Fine by me. The lady who washed my hair gave me the blow dry. Amazing work! She gave my hair so much body it was ridiculously cool. It had bounce. Just lovely. Product Upsell: Felt a tad pressured. But salons upsell their products just like auto repair shops upsell their services. I did buy a shampoo/conditioner set, not for myself, but for my family. I don't do products with sulfate anymore even if "shine" & "manageability" are advertised on the label. This would have been a great opportunity for them to offer something without sulfate, but the push was for that particular set. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. I almost canceled my Groupon because of it but am glad I didn't. The salon is clean, with a private parking lot. I didn't have any issues with setting the appointment up and the receptionist was up front about an additional fee for long hair, which isn't uncommon. I hate being penalized for long hair, but I also understand the time element of what having long, thick hair means. The Groupon was for hair cut, conditioning treatment, and style. Lucien checked with me every step of the way to see if it was too short and was cautious about cutting too much off. The conditioning treatment made my hair soft without being greasy. I read the other reviews and I found it a little confusing. My experience was great. The salon is in the middle of Silver Spring and easily accessible off of 29 and major bus routes. There is plenty of parking. The salon is super clean, spacious with plenty of natural light. It's a wonderful ambiance. They speak both Spanish and French at this location. The salon owner is very friendly and offers you a drink when you first come in. Like most salons they sell a variety of hair care products such as the Deva Curl line and the Moroccan Oil line at regular retail prices. It's convenient to get your hair done and pick up products at the same time. I made an appointment with Kiara for a blowout. She was on time for the appointment and did an excellent job. She hand dries and then uses a flat iron to finish it off. Her technique is one of the best I've experienced and the finish was perfect. Ask for KIARA if you want to visit and give them a try. read more

Many customers come in with a Groupon and are told they need to pay additional for long hair. I believe they also charge for blow drys. However, to their credit, the haircut I got there was very good. Many months passed before I started to look like I needed a trim again. I think the prices are reasonable for the quality of the cut. This was the WORST salon I've ever checked into in my whole life! I used my Groupon hoping that I was going save something...NOT! The highlight of my experience here was all about the extra charges. I would've thought he'd at least blow dry my hair at the end. But no,he had to tell me that there's extra charge to it. I've never written a review that begins with THE WORST.... but this is my first. This was THE WORST HAIR EXPERIENCE I've had to date. I regret not having checked with Yelp before buying a groupon to this salon and then ruining my hair. Let me begin with the ONLY positive. THe salon itself, located in Silver Spring, is nice esthetics wise. This however, will NOT bring my hair back! I walked in and the receptionist was nice and pleasant. I was seated, offered a drink and then asked what I wanted. I was told that I had a lot of hair and that cutting some of it would be helpful. The receptionist asked if I wanted to keep the length and I said, "Yes that would be great. A few inches to cut off the dead ends is fine. If you need to cut an extra inch to make it healthy that isn't a problem since my hair grows quickly". My hair was very long (about half way down my back) and she showed me with her fingers what she would cut off. Her fingers were about a little above where my nipple line is. I said, "Thats a little too short. Less would be great". So I motioned to her where I wanted which was a little below that. She then gathered huge sections of my hair into her palm, grabbed the scissors and cut straight through. I was a bit shocked because she had cut at about where my chin was and that was WAY WAY above where I'd requested or shown with my own fingers. Not only that, but I've never had anyone grab my hair into a bunch and just cut straight across with so little care. I was so shocked that I wasn't sure what to say. However, it got worse because a few seconds later she grabbed the second half of my hair and chopped it off, unevenly and up to my ears. I had the right side of my head at my chin and the other half by my ears. Two different lengths and about 90% of my hair was gone. DEAR GOD! I managed to exclaim and utter my concern. The woman said not to worry that the gentleman doing the lady's hair to my left would fix it, make it even and that it would come out great and "longer". I had no idea how this was going to happen. I explained to her that I had curly hair and that the length would only decrease. I also explained that an extra inch or two was ok but that there was a HUGE discrepancy in distance between my nipple line and MY EAR! The receptionist walked over to the hair stylist and whispered to him that I thought it was too short. He finally came to me and said, "Oh the length is great for you. You had a lot of hair before and this will decrease the time it takes for you to get ready". THen he proceeded to even out my hair. Of course in order to even it out it got even shorter and he saw that I was really upset. He then said that there must have been a miscommunication because I said my "hair grows quickly" . I explained that I never said to cut off all of my hair and that I even showed the woman with my fingers where I wanted the length to go. In the end I walked out with a BOB. I wish I could say that it at least looked cute but its a bob in the year 2012. Im not one of those people that cry because of an extra inch but when you're talking about almost 12 inches thats just crazy. My hair could at least have gone towards Locks of Love or something. I walked out incredibly upset and the hairdresser went to open the door and help me with my baby's stroller. He finally admitted he tried his best to fix the mess the woman created but that he couldn't do anything about how short it was. Its so short that I can't even pull it back in a pony tail. I have to use an entire bag of hair pins in order to keep in away from my face. I told myself that it was only hair and that I would not cry in front of my baby for the first time over that. But when I got home and straightened it and realized that I could barely run the iron over the nonexistant length I got more upset. I had hopes that straightening it would have helped and that I could have managed. I called and spoke to the receptionist. She apologized and said that she felt bad and even worse so because I'd been so nice the entire time. I told her I felt horrible complaining but that this was just so drastic. She offered me a free visit to the salon and I declined politely. I did not want to step foot in that place again. I requested my measly 20 dollars back and she called me back to tell me that she couldn't but that I could call groupon's customer service line. I did so and Groupon refunded me my money. I urge everyone who has been to this place to call Groupon and prevent this salon from ruining someone else's hair like they did mine. I'd post a picture but I'm too embarrassed. These place wasn't the worst i ever had. Lucien was pretty helpful to me and my hair situation, but i will have to admit, he did chop off a good length of my hair. I wasn't too happy about this but he did give me a free shampoo. I got a haircut and color, and they are really under-staffed. Why I was waiting for the color to process, he was doing someone else. He seem really really rushed to complete one person and move on to the next. very particular fellow ( and not in the good sense) Will i ever come back? no. The only reason i gave two stars was for my free shampoo after hacking away 3 inches off. I used a Yellowpage.com coupon, sort of like Groupon, for this salon. Lucien and the guy were very nice when I came in, but I should have known something was up when the salon was completely empty of customers. I wanted a basic trim, and warned her that my hair is curly so it looks long when it's wet, but shrinks up when dry...and she totally ignored that whole piece. I was very disappointed with the length, and knew within minutes of the snipping there was no going back... It was really awkward with just the three of us there...both of them were hovering over me and I felt like I wasn't able to object to anything because they kept talking about their expertise... Def not going again! I should have checked out the Yelp reviews before going, but I guess that's the price I pay for impulse buys!! read more

Blow Drying for an extra charge is nothing new at any nice salon as a good blow dry, on medium length hair, takes at least a half hours time. Folks just need to understand that more or badly maintained hair takes more time to do and/or repair. Purchased the groupon deal, and made a few attempts to make an appointment. I was told several different stories when attempting to make the appointment. 1- that it would be an apprentice working on me, and that they were only there on certain days and 2- for highlights I would need to block off at least 3 if not 3+ hours. When an appointment was finally made, I show up to find that no student/apprentice would be working on me, but someone with 10+ years experience (at least that is what he said) so I'm not sure what the deal with the rescheduling was. But was also told that I would need to be charged additional for the length of my hair, and because additional product would need to be used on it. The product, which I was told, was of the utmost quality. I attempted to forgo the additional "conditioning treatment" in lieu of additional charge, but was told that was not allowed. Quite simply it was all lies. I was charged quite a bit in additional to what I was charged for the groupon. While I was told that it was for the product, the "high quality" dye they used was nothing more than powdered bleach, as I could see this the several times the stylist went to the back room to dump more in. I was also never given any option as far as color for the highlights, and was simply told that to get the desired color we would leave the foils on longer. The cut was mediocre, nothing impressive. I made sure not to allow too much to come off. But the color was disasterful! Far too streaky and cthe color had bled through and started far from the root. It was terrible! Horrified I left as soon as possible and sought someone else to fix it, as I did not trust Salon Celine to do so, after they thoroughly ruined it. I ended up going to Ulta in downtown Silver Spring, originally to purchase an all over at home color kit and go back to dark brown, but the stylists in the salon took pity upon me, and showed how they could fix it. They were fantastic. Showed that with a toner, they could bring down the drastic mess that were the highlights. Because the job done was soo terrible we had to do a few lowlights to even out the huge streaks, but they were able to fix it perfectly! The ladies here very much knew exactly what they were doing! They also shared that as light as my hair color was, there was no reason to go with harsh bleach for my highlights, and that a good quality blonde hair color would have worked much better for my highlights, with the harsh damage. Overall suggestion- STAY AWAY FROM THE SALON CELINE groupon. If you are looking for a good deal, get the deal for the E Harlan Scott salon. They offer the exact same deal, but a MUCH better quality service. Its for first time customers only, but they do a fantastic job, and utlize both much higher quality products as well as much more well trained specialists. Ulta beauty salon is another great option as well. Incredibly affordable, and they can usually find a solution that works well without having to use too drastic of products. read more

We love Salon Celine. Both of my children get their haircut there as well as my husband. My husband goes to Lucienne and he will not go to anyone else-- Lucienne is the only hair stylist that he trusts! The salon is clean and organized and they are very friendly and accommodating, always asking if we would like water, coffee, or tea. It is a bright, airy and relaxing environment for a haircut and they sell some wonderful hair products there as well. The only reason that I don't get my haircut there myself is because I get a specialized curly haircut at a curly salon...otherwise I would go there too! We highly recommend this salon. read more

I got to know salon Celine through a google offer. With no expectation, I thought that I would give a try to this new salon located in silver spring. Lucien, the owner was my stylist. Before he did any work on my hair, we had a brief consultation about the hairsyle and color I would like to achieve. It took me a while to figure it out but Lucien was very patient with me. He mentioned that he has over 25 years in the hair salon industry. He has a good eye on selecting color according to the person's face shape, style and requirements. I was very happy with the result in terms of coloring and hairstyle. I got a lot compliments at work next day. I am so glad that I found this place. I would recommend everyone to give a try ! My great hair stylist moved out of state, and I've been searching for someone who can handle my type hair. A month ago, I saw Salone Celine listed online and made an appointment. Lucien styled my hair. I was very satisfied, but I've held off reviewing to see how I'd feel after a few weeks at the beach. Wow, this is a great cut. Lucien asked me lots of questions and got to "know" my hair before he started. My hair looks and feels fuller and is easy to style. I'm happy even after a sweaty exercise session. I had received the groupon deal as a gift, because I am always up for trying new things with my hair. After looking it up, and reading these reviews, I contacted the salon, and plainly asked if any of this was true. No, I'm not kidding. I came right out and said, 'Why have people said these things?" Needless to say, I went ahead and made an appointment. Before hand, I picked an appropriate hair cut idea, and was excited. I went in, and met Lucien. He was very nice, and gentle with my hair. After a long consultation, I selected the hair color, and then had my hair washed (the wash wasn't the best only because the sink basin wasn't really at 100%). After getting back in the chair, my cut sort of turned into more of a trim (which was good), the color looked absolutely amazing, with a small side bang cut. Lucien gave me a fabulous blow out, and I can truly say it was one of the best I've ever had. ****************************** Words to the wise: I had a good experience, because I was prepared. In addition, it is important to note that if you want to try a new salon, and utilize a discount of any sort, you should know and be clear on what you are doing. The groupon deal was either for partial or full highlights (they were separate deals), and that does not mean corrective color (i.e. changing dark brown hair to light blonde, etc.). Only because I have gotten my hair done many many times for several years, do I know what I am capable of doing and what my hair needs/does. Unfortunately, many of these reviews are from people who wanted drastic things done. Highlights (partial or full) are not drastic by any means, and should really be more of a sprinkling of color in your hair. It is not a way to really change your hair. That is the point of the deal. In addition, and as previously mentioned, I really know my hair. I have very fine hair, and immediately discussed this with Lucien. He commented on how I know my hair very well, and as someone who goes to many salons, I really ask that women get to know their hair, and ask various hairdressers (especially those you frequent) about tips, types of hair, etc. ****************************** Overall, it was a great experience, and sometimes, you need to be proactive and just ask the salon why people have felt a certain way. I got this through a groupon. I referred it to a friend and my friend said no way yelp reviews are awful! Oh no too late for me. I still went with great hesitation. I had to pay additional for the thickness of my hair which I believe to be true. They were very pleasant. I gave him freedom to cut my hair as he saw it fit. It is definitely shorter, but I like it. My hair is still wet so it is hard to say. So far the experience was pleasant. I think business deserve the good reviews as well. Considering the reviews were so bad, that I almost didn't want to go; I feel obligated to give a true review on my experience. Everyone deserves a second chance and I do not regret going there. I don't think there are enough adjectives to describe this experience: horrible, awful, ridiculous, grotesque,etc. The worst salon I've been until now. Stay away from Groupon offer about this salon, it will save you money, time and getting mad. The hilarious part was when Lucien told me I had to pay 25$ extra (not included in Groupon offer) to get my hair blowed dried after I have had my highlights done. What??? Each respectable salon does not make an offer without including such stuff. Anyway, once I agreed to pay, he made me a bizarre hair set and not only I was pissed off how my hair looked, but when I asked for explanations he answered me that his "arm was killing him" and couldn't do my hair because it's too long:)) I have never heard of a more stupid excuse!!!! If u are not able to set a medium length hair then maybe it's the case u should change job!!!! I also used the groupon, and since there are a lot of negative posts about this salon, i just wanted to mention that i had a nice experience with my groupon here this morning. i have longish hair and got a cut and blow dry without any hassle or extra charges. i like the cut and the color. i think there is a lot of sour grapes about the groupon, but honestly, read your groupon, and don't expect what isn't listed. i've bought about 10 groupons this year, and i never expect more from the business than what they list on the groupon. a styling is not included in the groupon, so why were you all expecting one? he had this assistant blow dry my hair while he moved on to the next customer. she did a competent job, and they were both pleasant. read more

I must say I was surprised by the tenor of most of the reviewers here because the experiences of both my teenage daughter and I were very different in September of 2013. My daughter's hair is long. She got a really nice, fresh look to her hair cut plus a great color treatment. She is normally fussy and was very pleased with the outcome, having brought in a photo of what she hoped for. I too was very pleased with both the color and cut I received. Neither of us were asked to pay extra for a blow dry nor for any other things, although Lucien did mention that the blow dry was normally extrra. I did find it a bit bizarre that it was not included in the Groupon package price. What professional wants a client to leave with wet bedraggled looking hair?
