Paying for pain - Ouch! That could be my entire review, but I'll elaborate. I have thought about getting a Brazilian many times before, but never followed through. Before a trip to Maui, I decided to bite the bullet and get one so that I wouldn't have to shave while there. The booking process was painless. You can make an appointment online, which is fabulous! No one wants to be the one calling to talk about waxing while at work! I booked with Taylor, mainly because she had availability at the day/time I wanted in Scottsdale. I would have preferred Courtenay or D'Lisa, as I saw so many reviews about them, but I was on a time crunch so took what I could get and am so happy that I did. I won't say that the entire experience was pleasant for me...it hurt! I'm not sure I anticipated how much it would hurt! But Taylor was efficient and honest about what to expect and the process was completed quickly! I had a little bit of redness the first day, but it quickly went away! I had no issues during my entire trip, which was nice as shaving + salt water is unpleasant! Taylor recommended that I go back in about 4 weeks for my next appointment and I plan on doing it. Two weeks later & I'm just now starting to have some growth back. I'd love to keep this going! Thanks for making an awkward experience as enjoyable as it can be! Yay! I can finally write a review about this awesome salon and the great people who work here. I have tried upwards of 7 different salons in the phoenix/scottsdale/tempe area in the last 3 or so years that I've lived in the phx area. I am SO picky. I mean seriously picky with the way stylists do my hair (which I am sure many women are). When I lived in NY, I had one stylist that I trusted to cut my hair exactly how I liked it. Finally I found Brett at Salon D'Shayn. I have been going to him for color/cut for over a year now. He is the only stylist I have found that actually knows how to lighten color treated hair with NO brassiness. It's a miracle!!! I have referred many friends to him and this salon in general and will continue to do so. The owner, is quirky and fun. She often frequents the salon and jokes around with the staff and clients. Went here for my first Brazilian wax. Melissa was AMAZING! She's super friendly and kept me calm during the whole wax. She's also really knowledgeable about what she does. Karla is truly fantastic! To make a long story short, I wanted pink hair, and proceeded to go down that road with a different salon I had been going to. The result was not as I anticipated, and it left my hair in a very sad, dry state. Once the pink washed completely out after only 3 days, I was over it, and ready to get back to a healthy, more natural color. I did a very thorough search on Yelp to determine the best "fixer" in Phoenix. That's when I found Salon D'Shayn, and, more specifically, Karla. Karla lived up to every 5 star review. She is confident, considerate, and was very much on the same page as I. The damage I thought was irreparable, Karla nourished back to near perfection. The dead, pasty sheen of my locks, was replaced by vibrant, shiny color. And if that wasn't enough, Karla gave me a beautiful, sharp cut I've tried many times to obtain, but never once received before then. I had my hair cut by Vanessa after letting it go for way too long. I had just moved back to the area and 1) my hair was way overgrown 2) I wanted/needed a haircut asap 3) I didn't want to drive far. Luckily for me I had a week day off to take care of some errands and discovered that I could book a next day appointment online. That was awesome. It's one of my favorite features of a salon I used to go to (near my old work--I would go on my lunch break). Also, I got a first-time client discount! My appointment was on a weekday at 12pm. I showed up at 12, and Vanessa was still working with another client so I had to wait around 30 minutes. She greeted me and offered me water/tea while I waited. I got a little bored, but found a magazine to keep me occupied. My haircut turned out great and overall Vanessa was very laid back, seemed to detail-oriented and was easy to work with. My boyfriend needed a haircut (and he's usually more of the cheap guy haircut type) and went in to see Vanessa shortly after I did. He loved it. He told me that they even have beer available as well! I wish I had known that while I waited for 30 minutes for my haircut....At least now I know for next time, and so do you. read more

Was so happy that the stylist's work I loved from photos here, had an opening. Because I'm not a book ahead kinda guy. In town for a couple days, so had no recommendations. She was awesome. Knew exactly what I wanted gave it to me, served up with great conversation. Such a great experience. I would totes (as the kids say) recommend Brit to friends. I've been Bao's customer for as long as I can remember, dating back to when he was just an amateur. The reason he's stayed my hairstylist is due to his incredible diligence and punctuality. This is a person you can count on when you need an excellent haircut or if you need an opinion on what would look great with you. He's also dyed my hair and my brothers hair several times, the colors are extreme and always involving heavy bleaching. However, Bao doesn't stray from taking great strides to protecting a customers hair. If he knows your hair cannot handle a certain product, he WILL caution you twice or more, unlike other salons. Rarely do I leave a place and pen immediately. However, Leticia deserves it and then some. Hands down best mani pedi I can remember. She's super chill...not a barrage of questioning. Inspects and shapes to perfection. Salon opens at 10:00, and the online booking system wouldn't let me do a manicure and pedicure because it was 10 minutes too long given the other appointments on the books. I showed at 9:40, and much of the staff was there already setting up. They took me early and gave me the add on manicure that I wanted. Having been a lady that contracted (and conquered!) a nail fungus from a reputable, but thank GOD, now defunct spa several years ago, I am militant about who and where I get my nails done. Nail funguses are easily spread - but it's not gonna happen here! They take every precaution for sanitization: lined buckets for the pedicures, sterilized and wrapped implements, and they even cut their buffers into individually sized 1" squares to avoid any cross contamination. The vibe of the salon is really great. Downtempo, chillax if you will. I do wish the esthetician and the nail tech also took pride in their hair so that they could be a cross referral system to the stylists in the salon. Not that this affects the service I received, but one of the stylists came to work totally unprepared. She had to borrow gloves from Leticia and a foiling comb from another hairdresser to do her first client. They were a kind and supportive team, but I can tell they rent because everyone has different branded items they were using...thus making the sacrifice from them beyond gracious. FABULOUS!!! I had an amazing first time wax experience! I was pretty nervous about doing a Brazilian, but D'Lisa is freaking awesome!! Not awkward, she explains as she goes. Definitely did not hurt as much as I expected! I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for this service! I look forward to future waxes and other services. THEY LIED, THEY DISCRIMINATED, THEY RETALIATED, THEY MISSTREATED ME. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. I have very long brown (level 3) hair, I'm talking past my waist long. I take very good care of it and it is my pride and joy. I would never do anything drastic to my hair that could potentially harm the health of my hair that I have worked so hard to achieve. Kristen from Salon D'Shayne was recommended by two women who also have similar hair length as I. After years of debating if I should color my hair, I finally decided that Kristen would have the expertise I could trust with my long hair. THEY LIED: I was interested in minimal brown (level 4-5) highlights focused towards the ends of my hair, something that looked extremely natural and sun kissed, as soon as the hairstylist Kristen took a look at my hair she quickly concluded that it would be impossible to lighten my hair. Claiming it was too saturated with brown hair dye I used YEARS ago, she began to discourage me from even trying (unknowing to her, I had attempted test strands at home and was able to lighten my hair to a level 11 or 12 almost white color ). I still requested she do a test strand, after 25-30 minutes of having strong "bleach" in my hair she came with a tiny spray water bottle and removed the "bleach" from my hair ( if the strongest bleach was used on my hair wouldn't it make sense to wash that section of hair, instead sprinkling water and removing it with a towel?) she showed me the wet strand of hair which showed little to no difference in color ( I thought it was odd that she did not dry my hair after bleaching to show the results, but instead said "i told you your hair wouldn't lighten." I questioned her on how it possible that there was no color lift, I even questioned what type of bleach she used. She then told that that Salon D'Shayne only uses top quality products and that the bleach she used was the strongest and best on the market. THEY DID NOT USE BLEACH ON MY HAIR TO TRY AND AVOID DOING THE WORK. Confused and disappointed I told her I only wanted a trim my hair and blowdry. THEY MISTREATED ME: She trimmed by hair, and began to blow dry my hair. Half way through blowdrying my hair she became extremely irritable and suggested that next time I would like to have my hair done I should look for a Blow Bar instead, at this point she became carless with what she was doing. As soon as she was done, she rudely threw all my hair aside as if it where trash, she didn't bother to brush it back into place, put any finishing product on it, or verify that the length was even everywhere, but most importantly she never asked me if I was happy with it, instead she quickly asked for $75 payment. I got up, struggled to get my belongings while trying to fix my hair back into place (which looked like I had just gotten out of bed due to her throwing it to one side) it was CLEAR that she was in a huge rush to get me out and that she was purposely going out of her way to make me feel so uncomfortable that I never returned. THEY DISCRIMINATE: I am a 30 year old HISPANIC woman who based on what I could see during my 3 hours there does not fit the profile of their average client. Through her attitude and her unwillingness to provide me with proper service KRISTEN MADE IT VERY CLEAR I WAS NOT WELCOME AT SALON D'SHAYNE THEY RETALIATE: after my awful experience I left there in shock and wanting to cry, I was so humiliated and did not understanding why I was treated in such a disgusting manner. I decided to write an honest review about my experience, 10 minutes after posting the review Kristen contacted one of the girls who referred me to her and told her that she would no longer be doing her hair because of the complaints I had posted on the internet. I arrived a few minutes early and was greeted by my aesthetician Melissa. Her previous appointment was running late so she called her and got the OK to take me a bit early - NICE! She took her time with my appointment and we had great chats. She treated me like HER CLIENT, not just another customer coming through the door. I'm usually the type to shop around for wax appointments to find the best deal. I wanted to go ahead and do a quick update/edit. After I left this review I also started getting spa manicures with Leticia.. I definitely recommend the "spa" version of anything she does.. Most relaxing massage ever! She has done vinylux polishes (which last a week) and Gelish for me. Always very satisfied and she is very easy to talk to. She's gone out of her way to reschedule to me and has responded to me late at night if I had chipped the polish and wanted to come in and do something different. It's really sad to say that I have since moved from the Phoenix area, but yea.. Whenever I visit home I need to visit! read more

My hair is super curly and hard to deal with, but she cut and styled it expertly. I recently had a pedicure done by Stephanye and she did a great job. I'm new to the area and wanted to find "my salon," a place I can go to get pampered and take a break from my adorable children. Well, I'm happy that I tried out Salon D' Shayn because it was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I was greeted as soon as I walked in by D'Lisa and she read my mood perfectly and offered me a glass of wine (YES PLEASE!). I enjoyed my wine and conversation with Stephanye as she did the pedicure. Stephayne was very sweet and let me talk her ear off. I was so pleased with my experience that I just scheduled online with Sarah H. to have my hair cut and colored tomorrow. I will absolutely be back on to review after a second experience in the salon! I've already raved about the Scottsdale location but feel the need to tip my hat at D'Lisa for another successful venture. I used to complain about driving all the way to Old Town for my personal grooming needs so she listened and opened a Phoenix location! Anyone who knows me knows I am a cheap SOB so I tend to do my own nails and eyebrows (for a few years I even cut my own hair!) but now I have no excuse to not head over to this incredible local business. I read that funky nails are all the rage these days and the few times I've rocked them I got crazy compliments. And who doesn't love compliments?! D, as always, I love the work you do and the passion you have for improving the world around you. Nobody puts more effort in to their career than you and it shows. I was recommended to this salon by a coworker who has gorgeous hair so my experience is not the norm. That said, I went in for cut and color both of which were kind of a bizarre mess when I walked out ($200+ poorer.) I had the haircut (crooked back) repaired at sports clips for $10 this morning and I'll have to wait a bit to repair the color. My experience is probably a fluke, but its all I have and based on that I would not return or recommend. read more

I started out coming here a year or so ago for waxing from D'Lisa. She's awesome and amazing. (I've also seen Taylor and Courtenay, and would equally recommend them as well!) At some point, I thought "gosh, why am I not coming here for other services?" So I had an express mani/pedi from Leticia. I love her. I have never had a regular mani that lasts more than a week without chipping until I met Leticia. Now, I have to actually go in for another mani because my nails are growing out!! And hair...Karla is great. I only recently went to her, but it's not a surprise that she too exceeded my expectations. I really just love everything about the salon...from the fact that they use cruelty-free products to the fact that they have snacks and refreshments to the fact that D'Lisa works her ass off to give back to the local community! With Salon D'Shayn, I look forward to Salon Saturdays! As an update, Karla has now been doing my hair and has done fantastic dye jobs! I wanted pink; she gave me pink. I asked for purple, she gave me purple. It was a great color -- I only wished it lasted forever!! But like love, fantastic color does not last forever. I can't say enough good things about this place/Taylor. I recently moved to Phoenix from New Hampshire and had been going to the same esthetician for years. I tried one other (horrifying) place before stumbling upon D'Shayn and I'm so grateful that I found this place sooner than later. For whatever reason, some places are extremely painful, but there are a few out there who know what they're doing. It's definitely not pleasant, but it's bearable. The salon is beautiful, the wax room is adorable and well lit, they use individual wax holder rolley things that keep the wax at the correct temperature and prevent double dipping into the pot. Taylor was professional, fun, inviting and an overall cool person to hang out with under otherwise awkward circumstances. She's quick and does a great job. I get a full leg and Brazilian and it took less than an hour total. They offer half off waxing to first time guests, but honestly for the quality of service their original prices are very reasonable. Especially since they package quite a few things together if you're getting more than once service done. Overall great experience - Glad I found my new wax place. read more

Unfortunately, she was on vacation when I popped in during lunch to see if it could be quickly fixed. But Lydia was there and saved the day for me. Lydia just quickly did a snip snip in between her scheduled clients so I couldn't be happier. She also is a fabulous stylist. I started taking my little girl to her. I've been seeing Roger exclusively for several years now and have followed him to several salons. He's always bent over backwards to accommodate my husband and I and he's super freakin talented with hair and color. He just moved to Salon D'Shayne and I'm pleased with the choice. It's a hip, vibrant salon, but is not at all uptight or pretentious feeling. Just a really cool space in a convenient part of town. Roger is also really great at fixing my "errors in judgement" such as: botched Great Clips "bangs", that time I tried to dye my hair brown and it turned green, that other time when I did the same thing, and recently when I dyed my hair a decent color, but it was fading super fast. He's super fair with rates, and when you're a repeat customer he will hook you up. Put simply, Roger Montoya is the illusive chanteuse of hair. read more
