I had my hair and makeup done by Lydia for my wedding and I couldn't reccomend her more for special events! I first did my trial with her a few weeks before and once I realized that the trial hair would not work for me she immediately sent me other ideas and started to work with me on what else I might want. Day of she listened to me and my hair came out beautiful. I had a lot of girls that needed hair and makeup so she brought two other wonderful girls that mainly did hair. They use Alfaparf color which is friendly on the scalp so that's good. They also use Amika hair products so your hair smells fantastic when you're all done. All in all a great salon. I'd heard great things about Salon D'Shayn, so when I needed a last minute blowout for a photo shoot I checked their online calendar. It was super easy and convenient to book an appointment. The client before me ran a little late, but it didn't matter because Nadine was so fast I still left on time with awesome hair. Not to mention the split end salve she put on me made my hair silky smooth and kept me from having to get a trim for another 6 weeks. Needless to say I re-booked with her. The salon itself is trendy, supports a variety of awesome local businesses and artists, and is downright adorable. The prices are more than reasonable for the awesome quality. I scheduled my first appointment through the online portal, and called myself the day before to make sure the details of my appointment were known. Whoever I talked to told me this would be a color correction, not a all over color as I had scheduled (my mistake). I asked if I should reschedule for a later date with more time and they said NO, just show up early. So I showed up 15 minutes early to the ORIGINAL appointment and waited nearly 30 minutes for Karla and ended up having me re-schedule as color corrections need more time anyways? I didn't mention in my original review because I figured no harm no foul whoever answered the phone was misinformed. As for your response to my original post, I'm not distraught because my hair doesn't look like the pinterest photos and I am completely aware color corrections may take more than one sitting, however, my hair is not a science project. I told Karla I wasn't expecting perfection just something IN THE DIRECTION of an ashy tone same level. I was affirmed on MULTIPLE occasions, we weren't even trying to change the level of my hair JUST the tone. So I'm not sure why my hair was bleached for 4 hours (until it was nearly white) and then dyed nearly black when my original color was light when I came in. Level 7 as mentioned in my previous post. I came back to have Karla color remove ALL of the processing from my first appointment to have my hair basically how I came in the first time? Except with even more awful red and gold tones. Calling this groundwork was a bold strategy. Towards the end of my rescheduled appointment she had another client, so she was dual processing our hair. My beliefs are the toner was left on too long because she was busy with a second client. I wouldn't have even been as upset as I was had the 4 hours of highlighting been visible. I could have dyed my hair black for 20 bucks in 20 minutes. When I came back and had the dark colors removed I left the chair another 6 hours later with, "its not that bad". So I hope you understand why a third and maybe 4,5,6 appt was not looking promising. Not to mention she said she would get back to me and quiet frankly I don't think I would have if I didn't post a review. So thanks but no thanks Shayn D Salon! ______________________________________________________________ Speaking of false statements, I don't use box color, and I never said that. I will tell you again that I wasn't expecting a "miracle" in one sitting or even two. But I think the photos speak for themselves. We didn't even take A STEP in the right direction. She over processed my hair at the first appointment while busy with a second client. Bleached it to the heavens and left the color in too long. So really the second appointment when she color removed her work from the previous appointment speaks for itself , does it not? But you can't talk up my request as some lavish and impossible "miracle" when all I asked for was a root shade and some balayage for lightness. At one point Karla suggested we "bleach my whole head" to start over. This is where the I draw the line! I was so overwhelmed by the back and forth I ALMOST thought that was a good idea, then I realized how absolutely insane it was. My hair is absolutely no where near where I originally wanted it, but luckily a different stylist could spare me the embarrassment of how I left your salon. I know you're pleading your case to save your reputation, but pointing fingers about false statements and making your own is pretty childish. I'll let this silly yelp battle speak for itself. ",Another review- as if D'Shayn needs another one! So many great reviews... here is mine: They took me in on short notice thx to a cancellation of another client. I came in with an image of what I would like: "layered bob". Stylist Lydia carefully examined my hair, my face, my head- took a "Before" photo, then proceeded to washing my hair to commence cutting. She probed for ideas on how short I would like, or whether I style my hair each day or not, also said if I do not care for the length she tries she can always go a bit shorter. I was going from VERY long to short, which I highly recommend for women with long hair to do, as long hair can age a person for the worse, as well as being rather out of style, as my hair was. I make a point of not asking "how much do you charge" at these service type establishments as if you have to ask it makes everyone uncomfortable.I come prepared to spend, then after done she quoted a very low cost: may I quote it here? It was in the range of between forty and sixty dollars excluding tip, although even the finest salons in Silicon Valley charge that low end of scale expect to pay more in Phoenix (for reasons I don't know but that's not important now, but you might want to know this for your own information in case just moving here so you will not feel cheated) Hair was shampooed, cut, blown dry and styled in UNDER AN HOUR wow! no half done job either, she is an EXPERT. She (Lydia, my stylist) took an "After" pic, I highly doubt they will use my "Before & After" photo as I do not fit their young, attractive and cool demographic- ; Cutting hair is a skill. Some stylists just have a knack for it, some do not. I told Lydia to keep cutting hair as she is quite expert at it and she replied she plans on doing it forever, which is good. She should keep doing it, as a service to the public. Listen guys, I've never been to a SuperCuts or "Great Cuts" but I have been to beauty school salons to save $$ and it is just not worth it. Those other places are a waste of money and they sell your marketing info, so don't bother with nonsense like chain salons, for a sub par hair cut. GREAT PLACE- no silly stuff, just wonderful cuts, great staff and very nice - they called me a cab too, so pleasant. I adore their placement of healthy Cymbidium orchids on the reception desk when you walk in. At least I think they were cymbidiums from the leaf shape, could be others but I doubt it as nobody has orchids here except the common varieties. read more

I went to this salon twice in the past two days (craziness, I know). I went yesterday for a mani pedi with the Groupon deal and today for waxing. The salon is very cute and modern, with local art hanging on the walls....very inviting. Let me start with the waxing *this part should be skipped by family members* I was waxed by D'Lisa who is the owner of the salon and she was really great. She was personable and really knew what she was doing. We chatted about different topics and she kept my mind off of the waxing, which could have been very awkward (but wasn't). She did the whole job in less than 20 minutes, I was thoroughly impressed. Also, the waxing room feels a little more comfortable than others I have been in....it was still clean without having that doctor's office feel, so I like that. *Ok family members, you can come back now* So yesterday I came in for a mani pedi and I will say there were some high and low points. High Points: the job is nice and hasn't chipped yet, the color selection was good, and the nail tech was fairly personable. Low points: The nail tech ran about 20 minutes late for my appointment (now, I understand that they have been really busy due to the Groupon, but that is a significant amount of lateness), everyone in the salon that day was complaining about the Groupon (again, I understand that there were issues with Groupon, but as a customer coming in with a Groupon it made me feel a little awkward...also, the owner wasn't in yesterday, so the stylists and techs may have felt more comfortable complaining to each other...I thought it was a little unprofessional), my nail tech happened to complain to me about other customers or otherwise talk about other customers after they had left (again, somewhat unprofessional...makes the customer think, what will she say about me when I leave?), and, finally, the pedicure stations aren't what I expect when I go in for a pedicure.... it is a long bench up on a platform with large removable bowls on the platform. This looks cool, but functionally isn't awesome. The tech filled the bowl with warm water from the hair washing station, but due to the length of time a pedicure takes, the water got cold quickly and was no longer comfortable. Also, the bowl was just a regular bowl, not like most mani/pedi places that have massaging pedicure chairs/bowls. Then, to complete the services, the client puts their feet on the half lid to the bowl that is a little too short for the nail tech to do all of the service, so she had to have my foot on her leg at times.....it just seems like an awkward set up for everyone involved. I know D'Lisa told me she reads these reviews and takes them seriously, so I would suggest thinking about the set up for pedicures to try to make it more functional. Anyway, I would consider coming back here for a manicure and I would definitely come here for waxing, but I probably wouldn't return for a pedicure. read more

I first visited Bao Do at the Salon D'Shayn Scottsdale location back in March. I have been back twice since then. Now I will follow him as he relocates to the new Phoenix salon when it opens in July. My search has finally ended for a men's stylist that can create a look that is equally as flattering in the office as it is out at dinner or social events and even holds up during outdoor activities. His attention to detail is unmatched as is his ability to take some basic guidance and use that to create an individual style that is contemporary and personal, yet timeless. I started going to Bao almost a year ago after moving to AZ and could not be happier with my hair. He is incredibly skilled and attentive and gives a perfect cut that lasts for months and is easy to style in a variety of ways. Prior to moving, I had gone to the same stylist for 8 years because I was too afraid to trust anyone else, but Bao consistently impresses with his careful layering to bring out the best my hair can look. In the past few months I finally took the plunge to get my hair dyed, which I had never done before. His balayage techniques are impeccable, leaving a very smooth transition from my brunette hair to the lightened parts so it grows out and fades without requiring a ton of maintenance. Each time, he has used different shades of pink to achieve my "vision" for pink hair, and i have truly loved the experience and experimenting. On top of that, he is a wonderfully kind and insightful person, and I enjoy our conversations and laughs while he is working his magic. Can't thank him enough!! I got a haircut with Lydia a couple of months ago and forgot to write a well deserved review. I have very thick and curly hair and it had not been done in awhile. I had some color issues that she was very kind and honest about and pointed me in the best direction. She spent a lot of quality time talking with me and doing a fantastic job and I left feeling like a different person with more confidence. Lydia truly reminded me of what a difference a good haircut can make in how you feel about yourself. Salon D'Shayn came to the rescue as one of the few salons downtown/midtown that is open on a Sunday. I was able to squeak in same day for a much needed haircut. It was my first time in and Brittany did a great job taking her time to get things right. The shop is very clean as well as they offered me a choice of beverages as soon as I walked in. There was an inviting bar top where they did manicures. Were also rotating the art installation since my cut lasted after business hours.
