Just moved to the neighbourhood and was excited to give a try to this place as I live within walking distance. I was trying to schedule an appointment for their teen express facial that's done by the owner. Turned out, my daughter is too young (12) for her. Ok, not a problem. Then I decided to schedule it for myself. She was about to schedule me but then recalled that she doesn't do express facial for adults anymore. But it is on the price list? No, she replied, it's impossible as it was taken down a long time ago, accusing me in lying. I've attached the screenshot from her own site that's linked to this Yelp account. It gets worse... She ended the conversation by adding that I probably should not be coming to her salon. At this point, I'm glad I never did since this was the worst customer service I've seen in years. She will benefit from hiring help to answer phones, someone who doesn't insult people for no reason. In response to the comment below... It's clear now why this business owner thought it was Ok to accuse me in lying on the phone (which is she is denying now). There's a reason they say, "Everyone sees the world through their own prism". Liar sees liars, pushy people feel like it's them who are being pushed around. To clarify, this person never offered scheduling this treatment. This doesn't even make sense, as why would someone be "rude and argumentative" (?!) after being offered services? Not to mention, it was another way around. As a business owner myself, integrity goes a long way. I hope at some point they'll find a way to improve. read more

BAO is the best hair stylist and human! He has been doing my hair since I moved to Arizona almost ten years ago. He is amazing at always getting the color I want, which is difficult to do with my type of hair. I should be packing for a 7am flight right now but I dislike my haircut so much I felt compelled to say something. I should have paid more attention to Samantha M's review where she noted that Lydia cut way too much off. Instead I thought it was a one time thing. Wrong. First of all I have ethnic curly hair, and it's challenging to find a stylist who can work with it. This was the reason why when my stylist moved out of state, I didn't touch my hair for a year and a half. Reading all the reviews I thought Lydia would have experience with curly hair, instead I walked out with one of the worst haircuts I've had in a while and burst into tears in my car. While discussing my hair, she combed it out so that it was flat against my head and straight and said she would cut what looked to be 2 inches off so that it would be mid-back. Keeping it longer was important for me since when curly hair dries naturally it's much shorter than when it's wet. I said yes since 2 inches was a good amount. Lydia didn't clarify that after she styled it by adding volume and curled the ends it would be much much shorter than mid-back. Once she was done, I did tell her it was much shorter than I thought it would be and she said the styling shortened the length. She also seemed preoccupied so maybe that was the reason, my hair was shortened way more than was understood. Her attitude was also one where she just kept asserting she didn't cut that much off rather than trying to fix the situation. It's not flattering and the moment I wash it and let it dry naturally, it'll be a nightmare. I really miss my old stylist right now. Lydia was nice enough but she definitely doesn't understand ethnic curly hair. Hair is personal and something you have to live with while it grows back, it's important to have someone who understands how to make you look and feel good. Candis is amazing! And here's why... I found Candis on Instagram after searching for a hairdresser that would help my sister-in-law. My sister-in-law had recently lost a lot of her hair due to Covid... during a very emotional night she cut her own hair. Afterwards, I convinced her to allow me to find a hairdresser that can help shape up her hair and do an undercut. After some Instagram stalking... I message Candis and explain to her the situation. She immediately offered to help my sister-in-law... I was so touched, I needed to find someone that would not only do a great job but would also make my sister-in-law feel very comfortable and secure. During our visit, Candis did her best to make sure that my sister-in-law was comfortable and supported. She made recommendations on her hair and even brought products to make her hair look thicker due to her recent lost. She was incredibly attentive and made our visit super fun. Went in for a wax and came out with a wax, hair color and cut! First of all, this place is diligently following Covid precautions. The owner is lovely and ensures the safety of all her customers and staff. I recommend D'Lisa for waxing! She was very thorough, great to talk to, and her studio was very clean. I ended up also getting my hair color toned and cut by Tanya! She was lovely and was able to accomplish exactly what I wanted. I am so glad we found him, I had some color correction to do and was looking for a low maintenance coloring, he took the time to go over my hair as it was and go over some ideas for correcting. I have been getting my hair done by Grace for years now. She is practically the only person I will allow to touch my hair, let alone take the reigns on any creative ideas she might have that should anyone else try suggesting, I may be apprehensive. Not only has Grace left me feeling beautiful each time I have left the salon, she has an amazing eye for color with regard to what looks good and what might not. She is incredibly honest and her work is beautiful. In addition to her miracle work, she is thorough in explaining the fading process and how to best care for whichever color you receive. She has taken me from red hair to blonde hair within just a few visits, blonde to pink then back to blonde and even from blonde to a more fall-like light brownish (leaving me with some blonde highlights) for this fall season. At the beginning of my transition from red to blonde, she was very up-front and clear about the expectations that this would be exclusively a transitionary process, not something achievable in one visit. Despite this being transitionary, I left loving my hair each and every time. When toning my hair into a pink tint, she let me know not to wash with hot water and to avoid washing as much as possible considering the color would fade extremely quickly and potentially stain my clothes, my skin and my towels. Grace is one of the most approachable stylists I've ever been fortunate enough to have work on my hair. Her energy is always light and she is incredibly thorough. Regardless of the task at hand, she invests vast amounts of time and effort to ensure she maintains her standard and quality of work giving you only a result she, herself wouldn't mind walking around with. While I am sure all of the stylists at this salon provide quality work, I would never seek out service from anyone but her. I am so thankful to have found someone I can rely on and actually enjoy being around during the often times lengthy processes. On another note, for those of you worried about venturing into the world during this pandemic, this salon also practices amazing cleanliness and follows all of the CDC guidelines to a T. This is sort of a weird compliment but we live in a weird world theses days... the bathroom is even incredibly clean, full of nice, entirely no-touch surfaces including the soap dispenser, the water, everything. I also notice grace taking the extra few minutes to thoroughly clean and disinfect the sinks, the chairs, and any surfaces we might touch during the visit. The receptionist is always sweeping and cleaning as well so no worries, they're COVID free and you're safe here! In addition to this, the salon has ever-changing beautiful artwork from local artists adorning the walls, which I enjoy browsing every time I visit. All in all, I love this salon, the environment and the people that work there. I would highly recommend visiting this place if you're new to town, in need of a nice change or even in need of a new stylist. I will continue coming here as long as my favorite stylist works here! I test drove a visit to the Phoenix location when my super favorite Scottsdale Salon D'Shayn aesthetician wasn't available. Booking online was a breeze. (The salon owner even returned my despondent voicemail in less than an hour. But I had already booked and was en route!) Taylor rocked my brazillian wax. She's a pro! And in matters involving that area, this is muy importante. Even though I had broken the cardinal sin involving the bikini area (I had shaved recently) Taylor worked wonders. I wasn't given a lecture, nor did any finger wagging go on. It was a pleasant visit. The salon is appealing to walk into, as is the waxing room and bathroom. Artfully and tastefully decorated. There are snacky treats to help tide you over, should you be in sugar or protein crisis. As this was my first visit to the the Phoenix location, my service was 50% off! Squee! Note: I would budget scheduling time judiciously around mealtimes. The parking for the salon is shared with a number of restaurants. My experience was great! I went in for a gelish manicure on my lunch. I already have a salon that I go to & love but I happened to work downtown that day so the drive to Pinnacle Peak was too far for me & I had an event coming up so my nails NEEDED to be done. My manicure was good. I went in for a nude color but they didn't have any nude colors. Am used to having like over 150+ colors to choose from & the colors at this salon were really limited, which is no biggie, I just went w/ a different color, GOLD (see pic). My nails look wonderful minus the fact that one chipped 4 days later, I'm used to a 2-3 week flawless job on my nails :-( BUT, that's okay, I just filed it down & it's all good. I also loved that the girls there were able to do a consultation on my hair while I was getting my nails done. I feel comfortable coming back to get my color done as soon as I can workout a good date! Actually, I feel comfortable coming back for anything because I really loved the atmosphere & the people we so nice & casual, which is wonderful. I made an appointment in advance for a haircut I was super nervous about since I hadn't had my hair cut in years. I took a chance on Salon D'Shayn though I'd never been here before. I showed up early and as I waited, I got a text message from Kristin about 30 minutes before the appointment that she forgot to mark herself as being off that day and she wasn't coming in and though she did apologize, she didn't try to make up for it or offer to have someone else fill in for her or even try to reschedule my appointment. I was feeling very bad about the situation being a first time client but luckily Sarah happened to be working that day and offered to take the appointment and I'm so glad and grateful she did! I waited to give my review of my hair cut, color etc. I have had a bad experience with the last person at my old salon. I was going to sing his praises after the first appointment but he slowly went downhill. Anyway, I figured if I was getting my manicure, pedicure, massage at this place, I might as well try my hair as well. I chose Bao. And I am so glad I did. I LOVE him and my hair. Karla is amazing. She took my boring, limp hair and gave it life! I wanted an extreme blonde with an a-line cut. I have very thin and fragile hair that I've been trying to grow out forever.
