Jordan has been cutting my hair for years now when he worked at a different establishment and when he told me he's going to Salon Duo of course I followed him and there's a reason why, he knows how to cut a hair this isn't just a skill for him but it's also a talent. The craftsmanship that he does cutting hair is incredible, he knows exactly what I wanted and he knows exactly how to do it and would go above and beyond for it either. I go to Salon Duo exclusively for Jordan, their barber. I am a female, with an undercut, and he makes me feel comfortable and welcome! His cut is excellent. Jordan's precision as a barber is of elite status. For me, this is so important as in the past, other barbers have cut too high and I have found my self in a year long grow out of the mistake. On top of his amazing skills, he makes me feel so comfortable when in his chair and his studio. It is hard as a female to walk in to a barber shop and not be looked at with a puzzled look by others. Jordan knew exactly my concerns as a female with a partly shaved head and I could not have asked for more! But there is! Jordan holds a great conversation and is great company during the service. I can't say enough good things about this place! Beautiful, warm and inviting ,comfortable yet fun! There's the cutest little dog Hudson running around, and I love dogs! He's adorable.. yea, water, coffee tea.. so nice and welcoming and warm reception staff! I went to Colette, and she delivered the most wonderful color and cut! Everything I asked for, and she truly listens silently, then full consultation..then she performs her magic! I've heard excellent things about the waxing at Salon Duo. I got a massage and facial here with Regina. Both services were excellent. My beef isn't with either of those things. My problem was with the front desk staff and with the location of the massage/facial room. In my opinion, a massage is supposed to be a relaxing and serene experience, but the massage room here is located right outside the pedicure area. It is not soundproofed AT ALL. I could hear every word of the obnoxious trixie conversations going on outside and even a small dog running around barking and the UPS guy making a delivery. Nice. I'm not sure if they don't do many massages there or what, but it is absolutely unacceptable. Second, my husband had bought me this spa day to celebrate me finishing the MCATs. It was super unexpected and surprising and he drove me right over there from the exam. He assured me everything was taken care of. When I finished the massage and facial and went to check out, the receptionist says "that'll be $180". I'm like excuse me, i think my husband already paid. They made me call him on my cell phone (they didn't even let me use their phone!) so they could talk to him. He was pissed to say the least since he had paid way in advance and even tipped extensively on top of it. I wasn't supposed to know how much it cost or have to worry about anything. Instead, I was left standing like an idiot with no money calling her husband to come pay. No thanks. For that kind of money, the experience should have been smooth and relaxing, not loud and stressful. read more

Ok I went to Salon Duo since Robyn of "Rbombshellbeauty" works out of that salon. If you don't know about rbombshellbeauty, its a makeup and hair team (both robyn - the hair stylist and rosie - the makeup artist work out of Salon Duo), geared towards brides. so i booked a trial with Robyn, and things started out great......as they almost always do........but then when she realized I wasn't liking the hairstyle, she became inpatient and irritated. this coming from the same person who told me, "if you don't like something just tell me, i have no problems with that". i wasn't impressed with the hairstyle i ended up with......she tried to match the picture i brought in, but as usual she morphed that image into something else. why does everyone always do that? sigh...................i just want someone who can style hair with a natural but "put together" look. why am i paying $75 (or more) for these trials? I really don't think its fair that I have to pay someone $75 to not be able to perform the services they advertise? I am basically paying $75 for a set of plastic hairpins. if anyone needs some hairpins, I'm selling a bundle of 300 hairpins for $500. read more

Overall I have been very satisfied with Salon Duo. I see Regina every 2 weeks for an eyebrow wax and she is phenomenal. I have been going to her for almost 5 years now and followed her to Salon Duo. She also gives amazing facials and massages. Her prices are reasonable compared to other downtown/ Lincoln Park spas and she is meticulous with her work. I also get my hair cut at the salon with Angela. She's very friendly and gives a great cut, though it doesn't always grow out as well as I've had from other places. It's probably my fault because I don't specify exactly what I want... like I said, the initial cut is always really good. I really like going to Salon Duo. It's small and intimate and everyone is really friendly. It's not a pretentious environment at all, but it's very clean and very well maintained. read more

Dropped in for the first time today to get a Silk peel. Was greeted by the front desk staff who brought me coffee while I waited. This was also my first Silk Peel and Mandi was the absolute best. She walked me through the entire process and explained every step thoroughly. She was very attentive to my skin and made sure I was comfortable with the treatments. I definitely felt like I could trust Mandi with my face. Afterward my face felt extremely clean and smooth. I have fewer clogged pores, and I can already see where my acne scars started to fade. And she somehow managed to brighten the area under my eyes! SPA ASPECT! So I bought an ultrasonic facial for here from www.lifebooker.com/referral/sleopold22 for $29. I figured, I have to try this for the price. Well it was easy scheduling. Yes, you have to put a CC down for an apptmt...pretty standard. On the day of my apptmt, I talked with Mandi about my concerns. Recently I have been breaking out on my face and back...GROSS! I need to be wedding ready in August...GASP! Anyway, she was awesome! She truly listened to me and treated my session like a consultation. What a great business model. Not only that, she offered to let me try stuff before buying...that is really what I loved. I dont like to feel like I have to buy products just to find out that they dont work. That is why I literally have like 100 half used products at home. My family and friends love coming over because I am always giving away all of the products that I dont use anymore. Now, I am heading back next week for the actual facial and some other stuff. I am looking forward to her getting my skin back! I was hesitant about coming here because of a Groupon, but the service that I received from Mandi on my laser hair removal treatment has been terrific! There is a reason why Mandi has lots of referral clients - if you go to her she ensures that you are satisfied with the service she provides. Right now, my legs seem to be hair free from the laser hair removal and I love it! No more leg shaving for me. I appreciated her honesty as we talked about laser lipo, and that I'd have to do maintenance and lotion and moisturize every day to prevent stretch marks. She told me that people sometimes don't tell you that, so I was glad she said something. She knows I'm too lazy and low maintenance to keep up with it. I might have to consider this if my diet and exercising don't work this year. The receptionists here are super sweet as well. read more

I have never written a yelp review before, I made an account just to comment on my disappointment in Salon Duo! WHO CHARGES 40$ JUST TO BLOW DRY YOUR HAIR AFTER GETTING HIGHLIGHTS...ON TOP OF THE $105 CHARGE FOR HIGHLIGHTS?!?!?!? I was absolutely taken aback when the stylist finished coloring my hair and as I am staring at my soaking wet hair he asks, "So did you want me to blow dry it?" .... OBVIOUSLY! How else are you supposed to tell how the color turned out if they have you leave the salon with your hair still wet? So I walk to the register to pay and the receptionist says "Ok that's $105 for the color and an extra $40 for the blow dry which comes to $145"... (keep in mind my hair is just straight shoulder length hair, and there was nothing done special during the drying process) I was speechless! Maybe I can understand and extra $5 or $10 for the drying process, but an extra $40 is insane! I did not go there to get a blow out, which in that case I would understand OK you are charging to shampoo/dry and style my hair...I went there to get my hair colored, figuring like most other salons drying my hair after wards would be included- HOW ELSE CAN YOU TELL HOW THE COLOR TURNED OUT UNLESS IT IS DRIED AFTER WARDS!?!?!?!?!?!?! I recently went into this salon last week for the first time- everything seemed fine until one of the owners (I think Emilio was his name?) started yelling out loud at one of his employees right in front of all of the customers. The employee was completely devastated and humiliated and after they walked away he proceeded to TALK OUT LOUD about the employee to his client. It also made me feel not only uncomfortable but really upset that he humiliated an employee in front of everyone. I feel sorry for the stylists that are there because they seem like good people, but I will never step in the door of this salon again and would recommend you don't either. read more

I go here to get my hair cut since my barber Jordan Miller recently joined the staff and I have never had such a better experience at the barber's. Love this place! I have been coming here off and on for years since I live nearby and am always so pleased with the performance and results. Specifically, I see Regina for massages, facials and eyebrow waxing. Awesome! And, Angela cuts and colors my hair. On two occasions, Rosie and Robyn also did my up-do and makeup for a special event. I've never had a bad experience, and would recommend this salon to anyone. Everyone there is so nice. The facility itself is warm and welcoming and I can almost always get an appointment within 48 hours (of course, it helps that I'm within walking distance...). The cost of services is competitive to any salon downtown. Really, if you are the type to get $15 haircuts...that's great, but this isn't the place for you. That said, a regular salon-goer will appreciate the great combo of results and cost effectiveness this salon provides. read more

Yikes! I just read the other reviews and I have had a totally different experience. I too, met Robyn through her company RBombshell Beauty and she and Rosie did my hair and make-up for my wedding. I was thrilled with the results and have recommended them to many of my friends since who have also had good experiences. Since my wedding, Robyn now buts my hair regularly. I like going to the salon because unlike other salons, they actually treat you well and it feels like an oasis and a chance to be pampered. They always have some kind of homemade baked goods there and always ask me if I would like a Diet Coke or beverage when I arrive. I've been to other salons and have had to practically beg to get a plastic Dr's office size cup of water. So, I think they understand the salon experience and let you relax and enjoy yourself while you're there. Robyn cuts and styles my hair great and I think she's great to work with. read more

It was an intimate gathering with mini massages, microderms, complimentary drinks (and good drinks-not cheapy ones), free samples and great giveaways. I actually won a wonderful array of make up. The stylists; the make-up artists, the aestheticians and manicurists are all first rate and accomodating and pleasant. I can't imagine a prettier salon and the amenities are unparalleled. It occurs to me that anyone who writes an unkind word about this unique and special salon wouldn't be happy anywhere. To criticize front desk personnel in a busy salon only shows how little the customer knows about the business. The customer on the telephone is every bit as important as the "walk-in" from the building but the salon is geared to an established clientele who must make their appointments by phone. I cannot say enough good things about this salon. As mother of the groom, I was in Chicago for my son's wedding (I'm from NY) and went there with the bridal party for hair blowout and makeup. All I can say is that the result was natural and beautiful - beyond expectation. At 61, I felt I looked at least 20 years younger. Friends told me I looked radiant, like 25! Rosie, the makeup artist, was truly phenomenal. So was Marlena, who did my hair. The salon was also wonderful when it came to replacing a pressed powder compact that cracked soon afterward. I called nearly a week after I arrived home, offering to send back the original. "Keep it," they told me, adding that they would simply send on the replacement. read more

Being the wonderful MIL she is (I'm not sassing, I'm 100% serious) she gave me a gift certificate to Salon Duo for Mother's Day last year. I used it for a pedicure with Bernadette. Pedicure is not enough of a word. I honestly thought I owed Bernadette dinner and dancing afterward my feet felt so good. My second, third, fourth pedicure (etc) were just as well done as the first. I always have happy feet after a pedicure with Bernadette. FABULOUS place to go in the Gold Coast. I live right across the street so it is MORE than convenient for me. I can call for an appointment and get in within 2-3 days. Regina is AMAZING for waxing and spray tanning, I wouldn't go to anyone else. Where do I begin? Shayna is the goddess of color and does an AMAZING job on my highlights!!! I wanted a light brown/blonde color and she killed it! I know she does great work on blondes as well! Her cuts are awesome too and the prices are very fair. Regina has incredible massage technique and can seriously fix any problem you have. She is strong with the pressure and really gets the knots out. She knows what she is doing and has a great overall sense of well being! The entire staff here is super friendly, my next stop is to see Mandi for a facial. Really though, everyone that works there is happy and welcoming! First of all, I have to agree that Regina is brilliant. She is a fantastic waxer, but I wish she would find a different salon. I would follow her. I live in the building where Salon Duo is located. When I moved in, I thought it would be perfect - convenient, reasonable prices, etc. Unfortunately, the front desk staff are terrible. I have worked in customer service for much of my life, and I have rarely encountered such incompetent people. One girl in particular should most definitely not be the first/last person that customers see. I have, on three separate occasions, walked into the salon to make an appointment and not been greeted. Hell, there was not even any eye contact. Just young girl on the phone who seemed oblivious to a customer walking in. I understand that a customer on the phone deserves attention and respect too, but there's no reason that the receptionist couldn't look up and smile; Hold up a finger to indicate, "I've noticed you and will be with you in a moment." So all three times I walked back out - without making an appointment - after waiting SEVERAL minutes. I would love to continue the relationship with Regina, but it seems impossible to even get an appointment. And one other problem... You can pay for services with your credit card, but you can't leave a tip by card. Be sure to carry cash with you if you decide to frequent Salon Duo. read more
