I have been going to Salon Hype and have been paired with Kelly (Erin) for the past 4+ years. She is fantastic at what she does and she LISTENS! Which so many stylists I feel do not... She always makes me feel like I am having a luxurious experience even if she is seeing clients in between my highlight and cut!!! She even makes sure my experience at the shampoo bowl is relaxing and enjoyable... She is great at knowing what will work with your face type also! I have also gone to Dara (twice) and she was great as well and is terrific with blondes! And a shout to Angela at the front desk too... She is always so pleasant and welcoming! I definately feel like a valued client. For the Yelp reviewers complaining about cost, Salon Hype is more of a high end salon/concept... It is not a Great Clips, so do not expect Great Clips pricing... However, at Salon Hype you do get what you pay for!!! read more

Got a no chip Mani and express pedi on groupon for the salon. I honestly never knew this place existed. It was a beautiful salon , very clean and big! Nikki did my nails and I am very pleased she did a wonderful job. I've been avoiding cutting my hair due to a horrible experience at a salon in the city. I decided it was long overdue for a trim..so I made an appointment with Andrea. Andrea was great! She listened to what I wanted and even gave me suggestions on styling. The only improvement would be allowing tip via debit/credit card. I searched high and low for a good hair stylist for years and finally found one! Dana is AMAZING! She is young, fun, and has tons of knowledge and experience. I had had the same bob haircut for years and was looking for a fresh update. Dana gave me the most amazing pixie cut and it changed everything! I'm in my late 20's and finally feel like my haircut reflects my age/style/etc. I'm naturally blonde, but Dana was able to help me achieve my platinum blonde goals! My bleach touch ups are never itch or bother my scalp. The products they use are so gentle and non abrasive which is another big upside of the salon. Being a platinum blonde is not cheap, but I feel like what I get charged is very reasonable for everything that I get done. Even the girls training to be stylists are great and super friendly! Everyone who works there is great, but I can't recommend Dana enough. She is THE BEST! read more

Want to start with Dana is amazing. Go see her if you can. However there is one receptionist that is abrasive. Then you are literally waiting by squeezing in between people getting hair dried and those waiting all in the same area. After going to hype since it opened, just feel like I am a dollar sign. If you are going to drive fancy cars with personalized license plates, park in obnoxious locations, you should probably be aware people resent being overcharged and wont be back. read more

Salon Hype's -- NEW ADDITION -- Burr Ridge I have been literally searching years for a great salon -- have tried them all -- typically, would stick with the high end suburban salons, but, admit, have even tried the low cost chains. I have VERY difficult hair -- fine and thin. Even though I fit into the "senior" category (and, I'm not speaking of High School), I like the very short sporty/funky type of cuts and the blonder the better -- or, highlights. It has been very difficult to find someone willing to take the time with this stubborn hair. Most stylists just didn't want to take the time to foil my very short locks and would do all over color or generally, bleach (I basically gave up asking for highlights since the response was usually -- you have too short of hair). This past December, one salon turned the hair blue -- the problem was corrected on a visit a few days later, but, I lived with it for a few days. On a whim, I called the newest location of Salon Hype in Burr Ridge on a Thursday afternoon. I spoke with the owner who was most gracious and was even able to fit me in that evening at a time convenient for me with her stylist, Kristina. I arrived early and Kristina was ready and waiting for me. Again, everyone in the salon was also very gracious and made me feel welcome and at home. Kristina was willing to take the time to foil the hair and made some most welcome suggestions with the cut! The result was a beautiful color and a cut that is so adorable that it is unbelievable! My search is over!!! Salon Hype in Burr Ridge and Kristina will be "my salon" of choice! No more searching!!! 5+ Stars!!! I love Jen at Salon Hype! Jen has been doing my hair for a few years, and she does a fantastic job. I go religiously every 10-12 weeks, and I always leave with a fantastic cut and highlight. My hair looks nice and healthy, and I receive great compliments on the color. I am a huge fan of this place, both my sister and I followed our long time stylist from another salon in the area to Salon Hype. We always loved our stylist but were not a huge fan of the previous salon. Salon Hype is fabulous, clean, bright and modern and not a lot of fuss. I hit the jackpot on my first visit to Salon Hype in LaGrange. Went on a Monday the salon is beautiful & was spotless. All the girls working there were just adorable & sweet. But lets get to the real reason for my visit. My longtime hairdresser had a meltdown & took it out on my hair. Paula did a fantastic job. She spent extra time fixing & re-styling my hair without making it any shorter. She also did a perfect blow out no easy task on shoulder length curly hair. My hair looks perfect & trust me on this one I'm super picky. She has a great eye for style. Plus bonus points she is a doll. Will be back for more services. For years I was spoiled. My ex was a stylist... I think that may be part of the reason I stayed with her, free cuts. Well, I guess the past is the past right? Unfortunately for me finding a new stylist has been a struggle. So, for almost 2 years I have been bouncing from stylist to stylist and just as I start to feel comfortable with someone they feel the need to get overly artistic or overly zealous and blow the whole thing. Until now. I have been working in La Grange for over 3 years, and had no idea this salon even existed. Thank god for Yelp! I tried Sean Pats to no avail, when I got home I had to re-cut my own hair. I know totally punk-rock, right? Then I found Hype, so far so good. Cuts are consistent and the stylist (Dena) doesn't half-ass her consult. If I'm not sure about length, rather than chopping it all off, she takes a little at a time 'til I'm satisfied. The ambiance is pretty cool too. Vita was nothing short of amazing. Me being African American, I didn't know if the salon could accommodate me. Vita knows what she is doing. She cares for my hair like no other. I love the way my hair feels and looks when I leave. Keeping my hair healthy is really important to me and she does just that. She does services on all hair types. Extremely versatile. I really, really wanted to love this place. I wanted it to be mine. I test drove it with an express pedicure. Monika was running late--two of us were waiting as she finished a third. She was nice and apologetic, but one of her co-workers was eating cookies and counting tips while I was just sitting there, waiting. I was thinking I could have been a) called to be told of the delay b) been started by the cookie girl or c) told the truth and be given the option to leave. I decided to just wait it out, as I had nothing going on, and see how Salon Hype handled a rough spot. Well, over 2 hours later, I left with a nice pedicure. Monika was super apologetic and I think gave me the full treatment to make up for the wait. Then, two weeks later, I called for a hair appointment. I was put on hold and when the music finally went back to a ring on the switchboard, no one ever picked up. I can't really go to a Salon with such poor customer service from the start. I went in. sight unseen, for highlights and a cut because my bachelorette party was the same day. Made an appt. a few days earlier, and the receptionist, upon hearing my story, originally suggested a stylist that didn't happen to be available that day. No problem! She quickly suggested another. When I came, on a busy Saturday, not only did I barely wait, but the salon is gorgeous, an associate gave me a tour, and I was super impressed by the downtown feel of this little suburban shop! Liz, my stylist, was the best- I came in with a general idea of cut and color but she made me look great! She worked with my natural curly/but like to wear straight hair. And, though I was on a pre-wedding diet, the girls had donuts and were taking smoothie orders for a Prasino run! I love this place...I've been to lots of other salons in the local burbs but this is the place I just made another appointment for. read more

I recently moved to the area from Lincoln Square and wanted to find a new place to have my hair cut and colored. I booked an appointment simply from the cute facade and look of the salon and I wasn't disappointed! It's very hip for a suburban salon, with a very sleek and comfortable interior. My stylist, Kristina, did a fabulous job and I will definitely go back. Their prices are comparable to a city salon but you get what you pay for. I absolutely cannot say enough praise for Salon Hype and Jenna. By my second visit, I was at the level of blonde I wanted and my hair feels amazing. I first came in with dry hair and darker blonde hair that needed to be toned desperately. Jenna always takes her time with my hair and is such a sweet, talented stylist! The whole atmosphere is welcoming and everyone is extremely friendly. I left the salon very happy and everyone was complimenting my hair. It's worth every penny. I haven't gotten my hair cut in months prior to coming here, I told my hair stylist what I wanted but also gave her the freedom to do what she thought would look good and was in style, I'm not picky. All she did was barely trim and blow dry my hair- no styling, nothing special. I ended up having to go to another salon a week later. They apparently put more thought into the interior design of the salon than into the stylists they hire. Very disappointed. read more

I had been driving into the city for several years for haircuts and color. I found Salon Hype quite by accident, and after reading Yelp reviews, scheduled an appointment with Ross. When I arrived, the very friendly woman at the desk gave me a tour of the salon (great space) and introduced me to Ross. He spent a lot of time with me initially to talk about what I wanted to achieve, then explained throughout the session what he was doing. The result? Best haircut ever! Lucy has been cutting my hair for several years now and does an excellent job. She considers my hair texture, wave, and weight and cuts it perfectly every time! I am completely satisfied and happy with the haircut which lasts for a long time and still looks good. She has recommended changes to grow into a different style and helped my hair look good as it changed styles. She also does bang trims in between which makes the new cut last. This is a great salon with talented hairstylists. Not only the best haircut in the western suburbs, the best customer service - anywhere! I've been coming to this salon for years and there's a reason for that. A really high caliber of stylists that you generally don't get in the burbs. I continue to walk out of Salon Hype feeling gorgeous. Also, on the very rare occasion that something has been a tick off with my service, the owner Ross (as well as the lovely ladies at the front desk) immediately does whatever it takes to correct the situation. My experience here was worse then going to great clips! I went based on other reviews and man are they off. I love my hair and pride myself on having a good cut and color. My usual stylist was out for a few months and I needed to find someone to do my hair in the mean time. I called and the girl scheduled me with Dena. I arrive there and not only are several of the other stylist rude and stare at you like your trash I waited 15 minutes after my appointment. I then get into the chair explain what I want and she starts. By the end of my color I have color all over my ears and face. Which any experienced stylist should be able to avoid (she said she has been there for 5 years). Then I sit and wait for 20 minutes while she takes two other clients. She washes my hair and fails to get the hair dye that is everywhere. I then remind her to please remove it. By that time it has left a stain and she is scrubbing my face. She then cuts my hair etc. I go to pay and it is 140 dollars!!!!! Which is insane. I pay go home and wake up the next day to get ready for work. I go to fix my hair and see several pieces are much longer then the rest not to mention it is choppy and uneven. For 140 dollars my hair should have been perfect. I do not suggest going here! Awful people, awful service, and awful prices!!!!!! read more
