I went back to Salon Hype in La Grange today. I had made an appointment with Ross for a hair cut, going from long hair to chin length. The receptionist gave a warm welcome and took my coat. Ross was dying Jim Peterik's hair purple (how cool is that?) as I walked by the washing stations. Ross really listened to everything I asked for and gave me a gorgeous hair cut. I am quite happy to have met him. I was surprised to find out he opened another branch in Oak Brook. May be I will have to check out the new place next time I make an appointment. He said he works at each of his branches throughout the week. read more

I am originally from the south suburbs and have since moved to Des Moines. I have been searching for a hair salon since I moved here (almost 5 years ago.) Needless to say that search failed and I decided to make an appointment with Dana Owens while I was home for my Chicago wedding shower. Dana fit me in bright and early Saturday morning before my shower. She did an amazing job-cut and color. Since my wedding is in August, she preserved the length for my up-do and did an amazing ombre!! I have never been this happy with a stylist. I received so many compliments at my wedding shower and had people asking for Dana's information to make an appointment. Nelson....what can I say about about Nelson? I've been going to Nelson for at least 15 years and I cannot say enough good things about him. He's seen me though good and bad, and let me tell you there has been some bad times when I've felt the need to stray from Nelson, and I paid the price. I've learned my lesson, and now I do not stray, I make the drive from the city to LaGrange. Recently, another hairdresser said she would be adding a "little red" to my color. Okay, it was not a little red. I looked like a fire hydrant. I called and got in the next week, and Nelson took as much red out as he could and I was back on track to being my normal color brown. Nelson is very popular, so I recommend calling in advance for your appointment. I do not know about any other of the stylists, as I've only ever seen Nelson. I highly recommend him. The staff is always very friendly and will do their best to fit you in. I hope you will like Salon Hype and Nelson as much a I do! read more

I have been coming here for years and absolutely love how much attention they give to even the small things. I used to just come for trims on my curly hair but when i wanted a big change they walked me through every step. Jordan brought my very dark curly hair to a beautiful blonde after a home DISASTER that you can actually find in their Instagram page! I went for a manicure with Connie and she did a fabulous job. It's the dead of winter and my hands and nails are so dry! Connie did great work conditioning my nail beds and cuticles and the manicure looked flawless. She is an expert in nail care and I was very please with my manicure. More than I usually pay, but for special occasions and when I want a great manicure I'll be back. I went to Dana/D. for and eyebrow wax and she was excellent as well. She did a great job shaping my brows and recommended some good tinted spf 30 face lotion. I would go back to her as well. The salon is modern and clean as well! Asked for an inch to be cut off she took about 3 inches off and did not show me as she was cutting or after the cut was done either she did not show me in the mirror and it was time to leave. When she moved to this location, I moved with her. She does a terrific job on my hair, is fun and funny to talk with, and has never missed a single appointment. I went to Dana this week after 14 months without a haircut, mainly because I hate getting haircuts. I explained to her how I barely wanted anything cut off, but I still desperately needed the dead ends gone (a completely contradictory statement). Dana was just wonderful- before cutting she stopped to ask me if this was the amount I wanted cut off. I absolutely love my haircut- the layers are cut so beautifully. I was referred to salon Hype by a friend. I was skeptical at first as I was already a loyal customer with Mario Triccoci and for a long time it was what worked for me. I was a surprised by the interior design and to have two floors and with a sense of youthful vibrance that was quite was enjoyable. With helpful and friendly front desk assistant Angela who gave me a tour of the salon. The design as I would like to put it, very bright post industrial decor. On the main floor, where the hair styling artists at work, where my coiffeuse Kristina was putting finishing touches to her client. As I continued my tour with Angela took me upstairs where the salon showcases its spa services. Busy as any other, I had a brief a quite charming conversation with spa artist Vaiva, she seemed pretty content about her work. As my tour came to its end, descending down to the main floor Kristina, my hair stylist awaited. A pleasant person, she is highly recommended by my friend. She is extremely a true meticulous person, her attention to detail as I asked for the usual boring professor style haircut. I watched her cut my hair like a conductor orchestrating a symphony. She is very warm and very engaging as she loved to listen to my uneventful day. As she was finished, I looked the best I have ever. I was overjoyed and text-ed my friend thanked her for the referral. I've been a client of Ross' for a few years, but don't review often...this is long overdue. He is top notch, as is the rest of his team. I started going to Ross's Salon Hype sometime during his first year in LaGrange after reading an article about the salon in the neighborhood newspaper. I had been looking for a new hairdresser for several years since my previous one retired after 25 years of doing my hair on Oak St. My hair is very difficult to work with since it has always been fine, straight and thin so when I found a stylist who could work with me I was delighted! Ross, the owner, has been cutting, styling and coloring my hair ever since. He is fantastic! In fact, all of the stylists that work for him are excellent and I've never seen anyone leave there dissatisfied. The salon is very tastefully done. In fact, it looks like it belongs on Oak Street! There is a second level which is the spa area where manicures, facials, and other spa type services are performed. If you happen to be physically challenged as I am, they are quick to accommodate you by bringing some of the services, like manicures or pedicures down to the first level. In fact, the entire staff is very accommodating, friendly, talented and helpful. You will not be sorry if you give them a try. They are definitely the best in the area! read more

For years I drove the distance to the city for a great hair experience. A friend of mine told me about Salon Hype and Ross several years ago. I gave it a try and have never looked back. Ross is amazing at both color and cut, but if he's not available---he books out months in advance--then any of the stylists can knock it out of the park. Maureen, Caitlyn, Kelly, Jessica, Dara....well too many to name all---have handled one member of our family at one time or the other and delivered fantastic results. BURR RIDGE location: I must say I don't write many reviews, but excellence deserves the time. I lived in the Chicago area my whole life and have been on a lengthy, not to mention costly, quest to find somewhere I could get a great cut with a healthy color in a professional, kind environment that can keep up with the times and freshen my look every so often. Finally, my quest to find the perfect salon with an amazing colorist/stylist who gets it and knows how to take care of my hair and give me that extra edge is right here in my backyard in Burr Ridge. From the minute I called and Kelly picked up the phone, I could sense I was in good hands. She so kindly set up my appointment with Liz and for my aunt an appointment with Lauren. When we walked in we were greeted warmly, the atmosphere was impeccable, yet cozy, not to mention the excellent products on display. My colorist/stylist Liz immediately gave me full attention and had patiently obtained a clear understanding of what I was looking for during our consultation. I had been highlighted for years and was not looking for a repeat of the overdone washed out blonde highlight you see out there every day (don't stylists/colorists need to attend continuing education on new styles and techniques?) Liz was amazing, her technique gave me such a fresh new look and gave such dimension to my hair because her method and expertise in coloring was right on. Everyone noticed my hair and wanted to know where I went. Liz, thank you for taking what you do so seriously and providing such high quality of work. You have a client for life. Brittany did a great job with my hair. My first visit was a "I've got to get my haircut TODAY or I'm going to cut it myself" situation ... got a very nice cut - I brought in a couple of pictures and got good feedback and recommendation based on my hair type and texture. Went back a couple of weeks later to correct over-box colored hair and add a few highlights. Really nicely done - my hair doesn't look highlighted (something I hate hate hate) and the color has held up remarkably well. Love that Brittany cuts and colors - so I don't have to see multiple people and ONE person gets to know me and my hair. VERY glad to have found Salon Hype! read more

I have been to the salon twice, both times with Dana, and couldn't be happier with my hair! The first time I came in was for an express keratin treatment. Only took about 1.5 hours and my hair is thick and coarse. I really loved that it made my hair so shiny and took the frizz out. The second time I was in I decided to chop about 5 inches off my long layered look and try a long asymmetrical bob. I am still loving this cut as it grows out, can wear it curled or straight. One of my all time best haircuts. I have long struggled with finding a good stylist to manage my massive load of long, very thick, wavy-to-curly hair, so I tend to put off haircuts as long as I can get away with it. I was way overdue, and a friend had given me a gift certificate to this place, so I decided to try it. I called and was offered an appointment the very next day (a Saturday, which was a bonus for me, since I work M-F). I had no idea until I walked in how big this place is. It was packed in there, but they seemed to keep things moving pretty efficiently. Dara and I had a fairly quick conversation about what I was looking for, and then she dove in and spent an hour perfecting my hair cut. Cutting it wet, drying it, then continuing to refine with more cutting once it was dry, and finally styling. She didn't talk much, but wasn't unfriendly, and honestly, I tend to embrace silence anyway. It was seriously one of the most thorough haircuts I've ever had, and I loved the result. I know toward the end of our session, her next client was waiting, but she never rushed to get me out of there, and she totally nailed it. I will definitely go back. I tend to have a history of finding a stylist I like who then up and leaves on me, so I hope Dara sticks around! So glad to have found her. read more

Started going to Dana last September/October and it was just the change i needed!! Had a horrible ombré experience at a local salon and Dana turned it around and freshened it up for me!!! My mom also started going to Dana and loves her!! I usually just tell her to do whatever to my hair and she hits the nail on the head every single time. Phenomenal cut and color job!! My hair appointment was cancelled 2 times in a row. I have a small child who I have to schedule care for, so Salon Hype was not only wasting my time, but the time of others who were scheduled to watch my son. They cancelled on me about an hour before each appointment. The first time I thought no big deal, I'll wait a couple more weeks, the second time was unforgivable. My stylist, Dana did an okay job when I saw her, but my hair wasn't so mind blowing-ly fantastic that I would continue to go back. There are too many great stylists out there for that. I've been getting my hair cut and colored by Jen since I lived on the north side of Chicago and she was with a very trendy and high-end salon in the Bucktown/Wicker Park area. I cannot imagine anyone else touching my hair - she's thoughtful and considerate of my personal style and also what works well on me. Her years of experience show - she's confident, but consultative with her clients. I have never once left her chair feeling like she didn't listen or that I would have been in more capable hands somewhere else with someone else. More than anything, I appreciate what a wonderful time I have when I stop in the salon every 6-8 weeks. I'm a fairly new mom and my time away from home to do something like this is an absolute treat.
