I have been really struggling with my long hair. I decided to stop coloring it for a while, and then I went to a salon close to my office to try extensions and I had a horrible experience. Both my prior colorists and the person installing the extensions were just not confident cutting hair and it made me nervous to say I was ready for a big healthy chop. My hair has been over processed for a while and I knew it needed to be done. I saw the reviews about Erica and I knew she was the person I needed to talk to. And man was that the case. She is so highly skilled and experienced, by the end of the consult I completely trusted her to cut my hair. I would leave six stars if I could. Just had an appointment with Erica today, and WOW! I came in for a perm, but she recommended a deep conditioning treatment and a haircut (which combined, were cheaper than a perm) and the results are incredible. Not only did I leave with my hair looking EXACTLY as I wanted it to when I went in, but it was softer, healthier, and shinier. As for Erica, this was probably the most attentive and detail-oriented haircut I've had in my life. She was knowledgeable, a great conversationalist, and incredibly kind. Just got a spiral perm from Erica at this salon! I absolutely love it!! My hair is so much more full of life! Erica is a hair goddess, I swear! My hair was decently damaged at the end from pervious perms so I was nervous about breakage and more damage, but I didn't get any at all! And the product she used is amazing as well, my hair is so soft and shiny. I have lived in Houston for going on 5 years and never even looked for a hair stylist, because I've been scarred before. My hair is often hip-length straight (waist length curly) and very thick, and I can't tell you how many times I've had stylists cut if off and claim that 'it's still long', even when I specifically stated no more than a couple of inches. Erica was recommended to me by a friend, and I am SO glad she was. She was wonderful. She even cut less than I initially said, just to make sure I was sure, given my prior experiences. She also took her time on my hair, and it came out beautifully at the end. I received a ton of compliments on my hair after she cut it, and it looks so much healthier now. This all started a while back when I was caught on a Sunday needing a haircut that day. So I called around, and the only one who answered the phone was Diano at Salon in the Heights. So I go over there, it's basically the bottom floor of an old house down a dirt drive. Haircut was solid, Diano is chatty but clearly skilled and cares about hair. Then he saves my butt again later when my wife got repeatedly cancelled on by her stylist (different place). So he gets her in the door, takes his time talking to her to find out what she wants for her hair, and she walks out with a great cut. It's more than I'm used to paying, and they don't offer beer or wine, but Diano makes it worth it. Again, chatty but he's a good guy and really passionate about what he does. read more

I am so glad that my search though yelp landed me in Erica's chair at Salon in the Heights. I had a bad experience at another salon years ago, and I have been looking for my salon 'forever home' ever since. I am excited to say that I think I may have finally found it! The salon itself holds all the charm of The Heights, and the people are fantastic; you immediately feel like they're close friends who you've known for years. The salon is tucked away, so slow down when you're driving by, or you'll miss it! I called the salon this morning, and thankfully I was able to get an appointment the same day. My initial call was to cover some grey hairs (thanks, aging) and they assured me that they could help me out. Erica gave a great consultation. She listened to what I wanted, and gave me helpful suggestions at my request. I was in desperate need of a trim since I've been avoiding having anyone come near my hair with scissors - but the thing about Erica is that she is welcoming, knowledgeable, and she has a calm and cool energy that makes you feel like you can really trust her. My hair is curly, and she is a fellow curly, so that also made me feel better about my hair being in her hands. Curly hair can be so temperamental, and requires different care than straight hair. We talked about cutting off about a half inch or full inch of dead ends, and that is exactly what she took off. I really didn't want to lose any of my length that I've been working so hard for, and she made sure to get rid of only the bit I wouldn't miss/notice. We settled on a warm deep brown color, and I could not be more pleased. It was close enough to my natural color that I won't notice too much when it starts to grow out, but it gave my hair dimension, a subtle reddish hue (which I asked for), and lots of shine. She gave me some very nice, long layers that took my hair from being mildly boring, to actually having a shape! I am thrilled with my new hair! read more
