Graydin just treated me to the haircut and salon experience I'd been needing. Scheduled me in same day right away. Graydin's very personable and he took the time to help me choose my new, low-maintenance style, gave me a massage during shampooing (my favorite part!), and then, didn't rush through the cut. He even gave me a few hints to help re-create the style (cause it never looks as good after I leave the salon), but he was encouraging (and even admitted it can be awkward to do his own hair---it's really refreshing to find hair stylists who are modest/have humility, I'm usually intimidated/turned-off by attitude). Like a prior review mentions, Salon Rae wasn't trying to be a resort/spa/nightclub; it had what it needed: a nice atmosphere and being reasonably priced! I moved to Kirkland a year ago and was nervous about finding a hair stylist. I was very self conscious about the condition of my scalp and hair (thanks to a horrible reaction to Monat). I phoned Salon Rae on Thursday morning and booked an appt for a haircut that afternoon. Kendall was my stylist, and she was great! She immediately made a recommendation based on the shape of my face, and we took a couple inches off the length and sassed up my hair! She also gave me a really nice neck, shoulder and scalp massage! Loved this place. Was able to make an appointment for just two or three days from when I called. It's tucked away in one of the cute little strip malls in Kirkland. Not a ton of parking, but only cause it seems to be a popular area. Supposedly some good restaurants nearby. Christiana got me and she was very sweet, even though I was a little late. Plus she had a gorgeous haircut - always nice to see in a hair stylist. :-) She listened and did a great job on my cut. My experience at Salon Rae was phenomenal. The Salon itself is great, but Brittany my stylist/hair dresser really made a huge impact on my overall experience. I have been suffering the results of a bad hair cut I received over a year ago. Sure hair grows back and it's not that big of a deal, but the hardest part of recovering from my hair cut was restoring my self confidence. Something about the cut I had received and the time of my life made a major impact on how I felt about myself. I decided to get a hair cut on the spot and found Salon Rae online. I called and asked if they could get me in at like 6 PM that same night for cut and color. Brittany immediately jumped on the phone and spoke with me about my vision for my hair and said she would be happy to stay late to help me out. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a smile. Brittany and another stylist immediately made me feel better about myself by complimenting my (what I thought horrible) mop and began to build my confidence. I explained to her my situation and she embraced where I had been on my hair journey and where I wanted to go. The color - high lights and low lights - came out absolutely gorgeous. No damage to my hair, no streaks, no bleed marks. Very classy and very beautiful. She was able to gauge my personality, my face, and my hair type and cut my hair accordingly. I got a VERY-EXPENSIVE cut and style form "Gem" in Carillion point by Jeffery (who worked in Hollywood on Rodeo Drive for years) The cut was great soo I thought I would have Whitney at Salon Rae in Juanita Village follow the lines. She did a really great JOB.... she chopped off an inch and a half.. tightened the back the way I liked it... and she had a good sense of humor. This place is great--the best hair services (foils and cuts--thanks Shirley and Nicole and Jacqueline) and pedicures (Kerri) I've ever received. Everyone has always been very friendly and I've even had some conversations with other clients--they seem nice and friendly, too. I've been seeing Whitney at Salon Rae for a couple of years now and she has yet to fail me on anything she's done! She's always greeted me in the most polite manner and I've always left extremely happy with my new do. Throughout my time seeing Whitney, I've changed my hair style quite a few times. There have been times when I haven't been able to explain clearly what I've wanted, but Whitney's always been able to turn it into something even better than I was expecting. Unfortunately, I recently found out that Whitney has moved with family out of the state, and I don't think I will be going back. My last experience there, the salon owner came in while Whitney was coloring my hair and pulled Whitney into the back room. Without even closing the curtain, she began yelling at Whitney over a personal matter in a raised voice that the entire salon could hear. She even continued after Whitney asked her if they could save the conversation for later, because she had a client and there were other clients that could hear her raised tone. She kept yelling at Whitney and almost followed her out of the backroom as she walked away to finish coloring my hair. Now that Whitney is gone, I can't ever see myself going back to that place. read more

So I went in thinking my haircut would be 55 bucks... she washed my hair and dried it before cutting and doing layers. It took a while and I was starving so I was honestly ready to leave but when the cut was finished my stylist Sima said," You wanna put some curls in it it will only take 2 minutes" so I said sure that's fine. When I went to pay before leaving she said "55 for the cut and 40 for the curls so $95" i said WHAT. I would have never ever agreed to pay 40 bucks for you to curl my hair and she said of course I charge to style it. I said but you just barely asked if i wanted some curls and it would take two minutes, not "hey would you like me to curl your hair for 40 dollars in addition to the haircut." . I was literally walking home to go make dinner and put my kids to bed because my haircut started at 4pm. In NO way was I interested in a curly style for a night out on the town. Especially for FORTH DOLLARS EXTRA. She proceeded to argue with me about how "everyone knows style doesn't come with cut" but I am not the one who asked for curls. SHE ASKED ME if i wanted some curls and said it would take two minutes (which it did) then tried to charge me 40 extra dollars. I'm in shock. So i called my friend and told her the story and she said the same thing happened to her at this place. Only giving two stars because the cut was okay. Not amazing but it's fine. Unreal situation tho. I was extremely uncomfortable telling her I refuse to pay 95 bucks tho. read more

Recently I went to Sima for a root touch up and haircut. When I called I was told total was going to be around $100 total. I told Sima several times my hair was too dark and asked if we should do a foil instead. She said my hair wasn't in good condition to do one right now I was ok with that. She pulled the color through which I knew was going to make my hair even darken. When she was done sure enough my hair was now black. I told her AGAIN it was too dark, she said"it will lighten up".After a few washing my roots lightened to an orange color. When I went to pay it was $150.00 and she said "I didn't charge you for the color". While I was there the other girls sat around eating and when I went to pay one of the stylist sat in the chair next to the reception desk and was in the way but just sat there looking boarded. I had been here along time ago and was looking for a professional salon. This salon has really gone down hill and I won't be going back. read more

Amazing salon! I have Kerrie for my nails and Kelsey for my hair. Both ladies are awesome and take the time to find out what the client wants. Kelsey gives the most amazing haircuts. Fortunately the friendly staff helped me get an appointment for the next morning; and when I walked in the salon on the day of my appointment it was again very busy! I went into Salon Rae not knowing how I was going to look when I walked out. I wanted a balyage ombré hairstyle but I had never put a different color into my hair that wasn't close to my natural hair color. Kendall was my hairstylist. She was a very friendly, inviting person and I felt very comfortable. I walked out of the salon with a brand new hairstyle I loved! Kendall did a great job and I was happy with everything! Charlie is an excellent colorist. I have blonde BLONDE hair. I have seen colorist in the past who have fried my hair to the point where when I woke up the next morning my hair was broken off and laying on my pillow! My experience here was below satisfactory. I can't speak for all the stylists, but I was not too happy with my outcome. I came in for a partial foil and haircut. The haircut was OK. The layers were uneven but the stylist told me that since my hair is parted on the side, they can't be identical due to uneven distribution of hair on each side. I've never had an issue with this before at any other stylist, but I didn't feel like arguing. I knew it would just grow out. The worst part about the service was the highlights. I came in because it had been a long time since and my brown roots were coming through. Long story short, the stylist left about an inch between the new highlights and my scalp, so I left with my hair looking pretty much the same as when I walked in. When I called to ask about coming in to get it fixed, the stylist sounded irritated and not interested in fixing the issue, even though I was not satisfied with my service that I paid almost $200 for. I felt like I was being a burden so I never did get it fixed. I'll just make sure I don't return here next time I need highlights done. read more

This salon is in my neighborhood, so I thought I would give it a try. Since I had never been before, I let the receptionist select the stylist. I arrived on time and waited 25 minutes, which was a little annoying, but not a big deal. I sat down and told the stylist what I wanted - 3 to 4 inches shorter and some light layering. He gets to work and take FOREVER to cut about an inch. I reminded him that I wanted 3 to 4 inches off, and he says he'll make it shorter with the layers. It was painfully obvious that he was very new. He held the comb awkwardly and seemed very hesitant. So he starts to layer my hair and right away I can tell that he doesn't know what he is doing. He seems to be cutting very haphazardly. I am trying to be patient and let the guy do his job, hoping that it will look fine in the end. But then he starts on the front layers. His first cut lops off a big chunk of hair. I stopped him and explained that I wanted light layers around my face. It was almost like he was trying to give me chin-length bangs. He then asks the stylist next to him for help. She does one side and shows him her technique. So he tries to copy her technique on the other side, but he can't get the hang of it. At this point I had been there for two hours. He dries my hair and it is clearly uneven. One side was about an inch longer than the other and the layers are still a mess. I point this out to him and he starts cutting random pieces of hair to even it out, which makes it worse. He offers to fix it but I was done at that point. I ask if someone else could help, or I would just need to go somewhere else. I was trying to be as nice as possible because I could tell he was trying, but he just didn't know what he was doing. Then he gets defensive and tells me, "You don't know how to cut hair." Umm....true, but anyone can see that this is a bad haircut. Also? That's really not the appropriate response to an unhappy customer. Finally, a senior stylist stepped in and basically had to redo the entire cut. Even so, there were parts that still uneven. The senior stylist said that he would camouflage those parts, but it would need time to grow back in. I have to give it to both stylists - they tried their best. Unfortunately, their best still resulted in a really bad haircut. I spent over two uncomfortable hours of my Saturday in the salon, and left looking worse than when I walked in. read more

I came home this afternoon for a quick second and happened to look in the mirror and talk about disheartening. My cute hair, makeup and outfit was being ruined by my swoop bang being two weeks to long. Not long enough to tuck behind but long enough that when i tried to salvage them with a curling iron they were making an Eastern WA tube which will never be acceptable! I sat in the mirror scissors in hand and I just couldn't cut them as I knew something even more tragic would happen if I tried to cut them myself. My stylist works out of Fremont and there was no way in the next few days I could make it down there for a complimentary bang fix me up. Then the light bulb went off and I swung in across the street at this cute salon. I asked if they had time for a bang trim and by gosh Betty let me sit right down! She complimented my cut and color and asked who did it, I explained how I get it cut in Fremont and just have not had time to get down there. She even spritzed my hair with a finishing spray she thought I might like in the future. But here is the absolutely incredible amazing part of this whole story. SHE DID NOT CHARGE ME! I did not buy a single thing in the salon nor had I ever, there was no promise of coming back to have my hair cut or colored, and even knew I was happy with my stylist. She simply said that she was sooooo happy I had broken the urge to do it myself. I did not have cash so I asked her to run my card for a dollar so I could tip her. She refused!!!!!! Things like this just don't happen in America. However she will now be seeing me for future services! read more

I came in and asked the receptionist/stylist about getting a trim and one of the other stylists who was a little more than 5 feet away (and within clear view) talked through the receptionist to turn me away as oppose to addressing me directly. I heard every word she said. The receptionist/stylist was very nice, but the other woman gave off a bad vibe. I offered to come back at a better time because I was only inquiring and I could see that they were busy at the moment, but was sent to a different place. So I have been going to this salon for 3 years now and never ever had a problem. But of-course, times change and hairstylists change. I got a hair dye done recently and the stylist was Lyda. Let me narrate: Me: Hi, which color are u using? and which brand? Lyda: Im using dark brown Wella products. Me: Oh! but i wanted a dark black. its my first time for a complete dye. Lyda: (Angrily) I am doing dark brown. I know my job. Me: Well, okay but will there be a difference. Lyda: (Angrily) Don't you trust me? I know what I am doing. If you talk more I will get confused. She started the color all the while pulling my hair and breaking them like she enjoyed it. Me: It hurts! Lyda: Why are you asking so many questions. I know my job. She was supposed to let the dye stay for 20 minutes, but being this super smart women she pretended to be, she left it over for 45 minutes. I mentioned to her that it itched and that the smell was tooooo strong to bear anymore. She did not bother to even check. After 45 minutes she washed off the dye and broke more hair. She then gave a full swing blow dry despite me telling her that it was too hot on the scalp. Honestly, I do not know what revenge she was taking. ---This is not even half the story. 30 hours later I developed a rash on my scalp, ears and back. I knew immediately that something went wrong with the color as I had not used any other shampoos or conditioners. I went back to her with the reaction and asked her if she knew what had happened. She was scared to death but her ego was too high to accept. Lyda: Oh! it's nothing, you will be fine. I went to the doctor the next day with a scarred back, neck, ears and an almost fleshy, ugly, stinking scalp. Obviously some chemical reaction. Well I was given heavy medication and ointments to subside the itch and burn. A week passed and my face swelled up causing my eyes to shut completely, unable to eat, breathe or sleep all the while taking heavy medicines to sleep. 2 days later I couldn't walk without panting and was at the Urgent Care. I went back to Salon Rae and they had Kerrie at the reception. Although, I could not speak I tried to tell her to give me the product details so I could have an allergist test them and give medications accordingly. And what a reaction! This lady "Kerrie" just denied that it happened because of her stylist. Infact, we had an hour long conversation during which all she said was "I" was lying and that they are not responsible to conduct any patch tests and I was shouting during her business hours. She also added that her I should leave because all her customers were watching. Being silent I heard all and just asked her to give me the details. Now the twist. For some reason she had an army of people who all seemed to say a story that was rehearsed. Lyda was not allowed to answer any of the questions I asked and the best part - they changed their story saying they used Matrix and not Wella. We were so lost. Kerrie was more concerned about her salon reputation than a customers life. For a $80 dye I am paying 1000's of dollars to the doctors. Not once did they even apologize. It's been a month now and although I have been on a strict diet and medicines I still cannot eat anything that would cause internal inflammation, use any makeup products, had to chop off my hair, have a blurred vision still taking medicines, still scratching myself and now I have been losing hair and I'm petrified. In short: Salon Rae ruined a lot in my life and they have no regrets or remorse for it. I have posted my pictures as well. Kerrie and Lyda just ruined my health and I am still suffering. They still haven't given me any details on the product or even bothered to. read more

They are friendly, quick, & efficient. My only complaint unfortunately, is they have some sort of aversion to returning voice mails. I have left 7 voice mails over a 2 year span, and only one time, has someone called me back. I understand they are a small salon, and it would not be unusual to get voice mail, but I have no idea what their problem is concerning returning the voice mails!! I don't have to spend nearly as much time styling my hair as I have in the past because her haircuts are so great (and seem to getting even better). This salon is HORRIBLE!!! The ladies are total snots and people are totally judgmental. Also, if they feel they have made their quota for the day they will not even answer the phone to help you. The stylists are the cheapest the owner can get and are seem like they have hardly any experience... the main problem...this is THE most stuck-up salon I have ever been to.... from the employees to the clients... I am a regular client at Mode Salon in downtown Seattle and decided to try out Salon Rae just for fun and it was a HUGE mistake...HUGE!!!! Seriously, stay away... HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SALON.
