I knew I wanted a big change and had a few ideas (a fun shag style but able to be air-dried and low product use) but wasn't sure of what would work with my face shape and hair type. My mom has been going to this salon for years, since they were over by the UofA. And has continued to go even though it's not convenient location anymore. And even though every time she often sees a new stylist because the previous stylists have left. This is the second time this place has treated my elderly mother like crap, refusing service and wrongfully claiming she has lice. The first time I believed them and took her to the doctor and was told it was dandruff buildup. That was on her birthday and I was not going to be in town for long, we spent her birthday stressing and wasting our time. She didn't get to get her hair done. She doesn't drive anymore so me taking her was part of my visit. This time the same male stylist made the same wrongful claim. My mom by the way looked so sad. I let them know oh no don't worry it's dandruff buildup. Because she fell and broke her arm last week (she was still in her cast) so we are here so you can get a cut and a good wash. He said to go get a doctors note otherwise he would not service her. And no matter how much I explained the situation, he refused. Same male stylist both times. Either he doesn't know the difference between lice and dandruff, which he should then probably not be working at a hair salon. Or he's being discriminatory because he thinks my mother isn't as rich as the rest of their customers. Or he doesn't want to work on an older woman's hair. Either way I'd never go to this salon again, my mother will not be going, and I am telling everyone I know in Tucson if you're not rich and didn't just wash your hair that day avoid this place. Go some place with kind empathetic stylists who wouldn't treat an elderly woman like so awfully. Update: we had an another salon fit my mom in last moment the next day. That stylist said there's no way anyone could think she has lice. She has some very minor dandruff but that's it! They were so kind and welcoming. Update time! My last review was in 2020, during the pandemic, so it makes sense to post an update. Since then, my stylist changed again but through all the stylist changes I've had at Salon Salon the owner Jessica, is so thoughtful and has always paired me with someone that is a great fit! My current stylist is Mayra. She is such a gem. Not only is she super sweet and conversational, but she has made an effort over the last year to really get to know my needs and shows it. Recently we changed our approach to my root touch -ups and I really appreciated her taking the initiative to look into the other options and educate me on what the process will look like. I find that overall, Salon Salon brings in stylists with different experiences and approaches, but all have their strengths, so it's not hard to find someone that you'll enjoy. I've been going to Salon Salon since 2015 and still love going there! read more

sad day- got a super cut style at salon salon price. Stylist did not listen at all, would go back but all they'd do is cut even more off- it's a mess and I will need to pay someone else to fix, or just wear a hat for months. Had to hold back tears as I forked out big bucks. When did the quality change at this Salon? Heard jessica wants to go part time, but wondering if her chairs are still filled with people she can trust. I no longer do and will not return. read more

I was very disappointed with the customer service. The employee (or owner) was very, Very rude! She was thin, wearing tinted glasses. She threatened to call the police as I gathered business cards. My review is based solely on my general experience of spending time in the salon and with my particular stylist, Mae. I moved to Tucson several years ago and it took me a while to find a stylist and salon that I felt comfortable and confident trusting with my hair. I'm not typically the type of person to be hesitant about trying new haircuts or colors, it's more that there are a lot of mediocre salons in Tucson. Then I tried Salon Salon and I'm hooked. I found Mae on instagram so I was able to see very clearly the type of haircuts and colorings she specializes in. I really hope I'm able to have her take care of my hair for a very long time. The salon space is open and airy with modern decor. They do stock a few select product lines, however it seems each stylist is free to make their own recommendations and they don't try to push products on you just to make a sale. Somehow I seem to luck out and it's usually pretty mellow in the salon during my appointments which I really like. read more

I recently moved from California and spent a few evenings looking at salons online and reading their reviews. I ended up selecting Jessica at Salon Salon to cut my hair. It's always hard when you leave a salon you've been going to for many years. I'm over the hump! Jessica made me feel very welcome. She offered tips and recommendation for services in the area. More importantly, she really paid attention to my hair. I left with a great haircut and am looking forward to my next visit. Side note: scheduling was easy and a reasonable amount of time to get in. The text reminders were appreciated for reminders and confirmation of the appointment. I was nervous reading about the parking situation, but that was easy too. Honestly, I haven't liked my hair this much in years and I didn't really realize how much I didn't like it or how long I've been settling for a less than great experience and cut until I saw the amazing cut Alexa did. It was an eye-opener! I don't see how I could ever go back to a different salon. The space was fresh, airy, open and had a tasteful boho minimalist modern look. As for Covid, the space and their policies invoked an overall feeling of safety and cleanliness. Not only was the space spotless, but you also wash your hands as soon as you arrive and they scan your temperature as a precaution. The products used were top-notch and Alexa has her techniques down to an art it seems, as she has a very keen eye for details. What I loved most is that she explained what she was doing, why she was cutting my hair in certain ways and what the expected outcome of it would be as far as appearance and caring for my hair later on. Jessica completely transformed my hair on my first visit! I was so impressed with Salon Salon and I will be returning. I really liked the location and aesthetic in the salon. They support other local businesses and artists, WHICH I LOVE. I first found out about them online and attended a pop up they did in the salon. I ended up winning a gift card to the salon through a raffle they did at the pop up! I was a little apprehensive at first to make an appt, but now I can't stop raving to my friends about how great of a job they did. It's really important to me to feel a connection with the stylist and the space and I felt this as soon as I walked in the door. Because of Covid, I didn't get my hair cut for a year, just essential rookie split ends trimming. Everyone has masks on and they asked me to wash my hands first thing before I got in the chair. The salon is safe, spacious, classy and rustic. I was able to communicate with Mae exactly what I wanted and she delivered, in addition to being very personable, warm and on point. Love Salon Salon. The space is open and bright and next to the train station! It's great that the colorist and stylist discussed my haircut and color together to decide what will look the best. Prescillia colored my hair correctly and gave me suggestions. Jessica took time to cut my hair wet and dry. I highly recommend this salon and I've tried many in town. Being as the stylists are independent, I can only share my experience with one of them. I had sent pictures, talked to the stylist prior to going. She washed my hair, we were talking and before I knew it she was already cutting my hair. No discussion on how short. So, I now have too short hair, a perm that fell within two weeks, it sticks out everywhere and I have to use multiple clips to keep it out of my eyes and off my neck. And that folks is what I got for $135 plus $25 tip. I have never hated my hair more. Worst hairstyle ever! I'm going back to Cost Cutters. Just because you pay more, doesn't mean you get a better cut and style. read more

Erin is my go-to for my hair and does such a great job. I've been coming to her for a couple of months now and she's always fabulous. She's great to chat with and knows exactly what I want. I can always count on her for advice on hair troubles and things I don't like about my current style. She has helped me really change up my look and I love her for it. I've been to SalonSalon twice for myself and once for my dotter. We both saw Sandy for haircuts. She's fantastic. I have hair that can look like a hummingbird is flying around in there if it's not cut right so I get nervous. But I showed her what I wanted, she told me what my hair was capable of, and then compromised between the two. Now I look less bird-infested and more human. Plus, she's incredibly sweet to both me and younger me. She takes the time to listen to my dotter - who is 15 and cranky. But she really likes coming to Sandy and trusts her. That's saying a lot for a 15 year old girl. The only person she trusts right now is Snapchat. The vibe in Salon Salon is super chill. I actually like hearing the train roll by every so often. I'd like it even better if they had a special and every time a train went by, you'd get a scalp massage for as long as it takes for the train to end. That would be awesome. Anyway, the parking is super easy (especially if you time your visit right) and I love the historic feel of the building. Just outside their back window is where Wyatt Earp shot and killed Frank Stillwell (who had murdered his brother). Pretty sure there isn't another salon in town where you can get that kind of history close-up. History aside, I'm still advocating for the train-induced scalp massages. read more

I went in here to see Mina for extensions and to fix my hair that was blonde green and blotchy orange, I am absolutely amazed by her work. She is so amazing and professional she did an awesome job on my hand tied extensions and the color is perfect!! I would highly recommend her to anyone! Laura and McKenna did my hair and my wedding party's hair for aTucson wedding, and they were amazing. I live out of state, so I was a little worried about how to organize the appointments for myself and my wedding party but they were very helpful and kept us on schedule. The Salon had a comfortable waiting area, and the building is so airy and bright - it's definitely a nice atmosphere. McKenna styled my family members and maid of honor with stylish loose curls and they looked so beautiful for the ceremony. And I am so happy with the up-do that Laura did for my hair!! Not only is the salon beautiful, stocked with outstanding products but the staff are so wonderful. Amirah cut my hair today and I was so impressed. The first thing I noticed is how she approached the consultation. She sat down and spoke face to face with me about her thoughts and gave her professional input to expand on my ideas for my cut. Incredible space and vibe. I moved to Salon Salon from the local Tony & Guy when my stylist, Sandi, made the move. Initially, she was the reason for me to drive into downtown, but Salon Salon itself is reason enough! Friendly open urban atmosphere greets you as you walk in. There is bar space and comfy sofa seating and Wifi! The styling chairs are comfy and the urban/industrial feel is spot on. Pricing and products are on pair with quality salons and the ability to get your hair did and then step across the street to a long list of establishments for a bite to eat or a drink is worth the mild traffic issues. If you are tired of the "Tucson is just urban sprawl" feel of the foothills, take a journey downtown and check out this place. You'll love it! read more

I had my hair cut by Jessica a few weeks ago and it was one of, if not *the* best, hair cuts of my life. Prior to my shampoo, Jessica gave me very helpful and honest feedback about what haircuts, colors, and styles would work best for my face shape, hair color, lifestyle, etc., and we decided on a plan. She then cut my hair in the most precise, methodical, and beautiful way while she talked me through the whole process so I understood her techniques. Unlike some stylists I've had in the past, she really understood my hair and what products to use in it - I ended up walking out of the salon with 3 products in hand, which I nearly never purchase. I've chatted with three of the stylists at Salon Salon now, and all of them are not only incredibly knowledgeable, but some of the most lovely people I've ever met in the industry. Haircuts by stylists who are great listeners are cheaper than therapy! As long as I'm in Tucson, I won't go anywhere else. read more
