I've been seeing Yessy since 2006, and that speaks to how much I adore him. I'm one of those people who never knows what they want and can never make up their mind, at least when it comes to hairstyling. Yessy is that rare stylist where I can say "You're the pro, just do whatever you want. I trust you." In all these years of my saying that, he has only steered me wrong once. I recently moved into the neighborhood and was looking for a new salon. I wanted to go dark (my hair was pink) and get a trim. My girlfriend was in from Los Angeles and we spent a few hours walking around the neighborhood and stopping into hair salons. After four salons that all quoted between $260-$400 without even sitting down with me or looking at my hair, we stopped into Salon Savvy Coif. Yesse is the owner and very talkative but he's been doing this for awhile and is extremely knowledgeable. We discussed what I wanted, all the options and he even offered to tell me what to do at home if I didn't want to pay a ton. My girlfriend was leaving that day, so I dropped her off at O'Hare and came back. They were able to take me and I LOVE the result! The color was exactly what I wanted and the trim gave my hair some awesome movement. Yesse cuts hair standing (as Salon Buzz and a few other high end salons), which makes the cut precise and quick. Overall the cut and color was $137! The vibe of the salon is eclectic and and fun, I really enjoyed it. They no longer offer mani/pedis but are working on getting a new girl (so I can't say anything about the one star reviews). They do lock the door but that is also for security purposes, I was able to leave my purse and not worry about anyone coming in and stealing it or robbing the shop. I was in Chicago for the weekend and this was a destination I needed to hit. I knew I was in good hands. This salon is a real, down-to-earth place. You can be absolutely confident in the whatever service you want. The interior design is very eclectic and adds to the environment, quite avant-garde, yet powerfully classic. I went in to convert my bleach blonde hair into a delicate brunette resembling my natural hair color. Maria listened to what I had to say and what I wanted. She applied it with great precision and she was nice to talk to! Yessy explained what the color application process would do and the varying levels that were included in the mixture. He told me all about why the color was blended and what the current state of my hair follicle was like. He knows his color processing. So, naturally, the hair color was nailed. It looked great and I felt like a new woman. The cut was great and meant for volume. I was asked what shape I wanted, U or V for my long layers. It was great to have some much information about what was happening to my hair. I am untrusting of most stylists. I got an eyebrow wax and the shape was the arch I wanted. It set well with my face shape. I was satisfied. Also, I was lucky to get my makeup done too. The process was a lot of fun. The airbrush makeup was explained to me and what each section of the process was doing. The properties and techniques were expressed and I was confident. The end result was perfection. I felt like a total vixen. Julie is fabulous and if you ever have an event like a wedding or just a night out on the town, I suggest you go there and get it done. I came on a Saturday night and as soon as I entered the music was blasting and everyone greeted me. It was like a party. She gave me the samples for colors and we began promptly. Prior to my appointment an hour before I got a call from the nail tech daughter to confirm my appointment. I got a no chip pedi and mani. The pedi chair was broken....so no massage. I was told it broke a few days ago and they were waiting on a technician. For the pedi mani I used a groupon and they do not provide lotion for your feet or hands. Weird it's winter and your skin can get dry. Typically the groupons are the full package.....there is no massage or exfoliation. I was told the lotion can make the no chip not last ... then it would of been a great relief to get some at the end of services. I was cut twice when she did my nails. I'm not content with the look. While there I was offered water by a another person. Nothing made my experience stand out. I probably will not return. Good luck to you on your decision. read more

Do not come here!!! Most unprofessional place ever. My nail appointment was at 6pm. When I got there the door was locked. When I got in I was told to wait bc they were running behind. After an hour and a half the person who was getting her nails done walks over to me and tells me that she is going to start my pedicure water. So what I thought was a customer was actually a worker!!!! So I'm sitting in the chair, which is broken, and the DRUNK owner comes over to start chatting. He is so drunk he's slurring. The lady finally comes over and starts my pedi. The owner process to take his shoe off and tell me that his feet doesn't smell. HE THEN TOLD ME TO SMELL HIS FEET!!!!! I said no. The sad thing is they always told me they are busy, and I even tried making an appointment! Workers at this shop seem to never have the time, and always rejected me! I do not mind paying top dollar for a haircut. I went to a place in Elmhurst IL in a much better atmosphere, plus payed up to 48 for a haircut, and 15 dollar tip! I was never turned away in Elmhurst! If only I could give ZERO stars. Went to Yessy a few times for hair and wax because his prices were decent. Well, good price or no, when someone makes a **deep cut with hot wax on your right inner labia,** you'll never go back. Who knows what he was thinking, but I walked home in shock and crying. He told me over an over to keep it dry (WRONG) and checked in via impersonal texts and a bunch of "gosh, girl, I just don't know HOW this could have HAPpened!", rather than a frank, sincere apology. When I finally went to an acute care center a few days later out of worry (not to mention the fact that things were looking worse), both the doctor and the nurse gasped when they saw the cut. They told me I really should have been sent straight to the emergency room and gotten stitches. So thanks for that, Yessy, as well as the several weeks of pain and uncomfortable cleaning sessions I had to undergo. If only you'd admitted you had no idea what you were doing when it came to Brazilians... Re hair on your head, you ask? Simply put, he'll **make your hair look like a middle-aged soccer mom's.** A couple friends finally admitted that was the real result of his few cuts on my hair. He also gave my sister the worst cut of her life and refused to acknowledge he hadn't listened to her AT ALL when she'd told him what she wanted. One last point, in case the above two points didn't quite clinch it for you (though this is the weakest of all arguments, perhaps), he has **zero respect for appointment times**--you'd think he doesn't even keep a book of his appointments. So be prepared to wait for up to and sometimes over an hour in the company of only his vapid waiting room literature. Oh, and **if you use a credit card, he passes on the $2 merchant charge to you.** Real nice. Wrapping up: will cut your vagina, will mangle your hair, will keep you waiting, will charge you extra. I love this salon. I have been cutting my hair with Yessy since I was 19, I'm now 32. Well it's been a while for sure. I no longer live in Chicago but every time I go visit family I try to make it a point to go get my hair styled and cut by him. And it always feel like I never left. I'm very picky about the way I like it cut since I don't style it at home. It has to be a cut that looks good right after the shower. :) His upside down method I think is the secret. Yessy always fits me into his schedule which is always super nice and very appreciated. One thing though if you are looking for a quick in and out this is not the place for you. Maybe one of the other stylist can take you. Because yessy works to his own beat of the drum. I don't mind. I go prepared and expecting to be there for a while. And it's entertaining. I started going to salon savvy coif over three years ago when I first moved to the neighborhood. I quickly came to realize that jessy was an incredibly talented hair stylist that never disappointed me. Now I won't trust my hair with anyone else. He is a wizard with highlights and won't allow me to do something drastic to my hair on a whim. I really appreciate that! He says, "if you still want to do that to your hair next time, then we'll do it, but think it through." god bless him! Even now that I live miles and miles away from this salon, I make a trip just to have him do my hair. He is reliable, extremely good at hair, and the service is always great. It tends to take a little longer than many might expect, but it is always flawless, and I would gladly wait for the peace of mind that I am going to love my hair! Wish I could give this place less than one star. This review is for the nail part of the salon, not the hair part. I had an appointment scheduled for a manicure and pedicure at 3:00pm. I was out with a friend earlier that afternoon and I called, just seeing if I could get my appointment pushed back so I could hangout with my friend longer, since it's been over a year since I've seen her. Once someone answered the phone at the salon (Jasmine) she promptly told me "no." In a rude manner. So I said that's fine and showed up to my appointment around 2:35. Once I was in, Jasmine was already working on someone and said she was running a little late but that she would be taking me next and not to worry, and I said fine. She proceeded to redeem my voucher off Groupon, so I couldn't get that back anymore. After time passed and it was 3 o'clock (my appointment time), someone else walked in and Jasmine immediately took them and told me to wait and that it wouldn't be much longer. Again, my appointment was at 3 o'clock and she already took someone else in before me. Then when it was around 4:00pm, a mother and daughter walked in and again, she told them it would take 20 minutes and they would be next. So, not only was I cut in line by one person, but by two and again, my appointment was at 3. And a reminder, I asked her if I could be moved back to a later appointment and she told me no. Once it hit 5:20ish, I had enough. I waited close to 3 hours just to get my nails done. Jasmine came up to me, apologized and said she could do my nails really quick. I told her no and that I had to go because I wasn't expecting to wait close to 3 hours after my appointment was booked. I even asked to be moved back and she told me no, yet I waited close 3 hours just to have nothing done. She claimed those people were in before me, but if that was the case, why make an appointment for me at 3? Would not recommend the nail service to anyone, unless you enjoy being disrespected like this. And I also lost nearly $50 because she decided to redeem my Groupon before she even did my nails. One day we decided to look though the window.....and to our surprise it was a salon. My 17th birthday was a few days ago ( the 21st to be exact ) and I wanted a change . We weren't treated with respect and were made fun out of . Little did they know that my mother was Mexican and as well and understood every word they said. But anyways to the point , the lady was so nervous to cut my hair and did a less the decent job . I didn't even look like I got a haircut. I was disappoint. My mother and I called and made and appointment and they were so kind and hyper. One guy yelled that they had a birthday girl and my mom fell in love instantly. We got to the salon and I love the inside decor. Its so unique and antique looking . There was a comfy vibe . I loved it just as much as my mom. They also had a patio for the customer and I assume some wine ( VIP ???) glasses back there . I saw that they had a table for those gel manicures you can get at Ulta . Same price too. They also had a room for waxing . My stylist was named Iran . She asked me what I wanted and me being the forgetful person I am , forgot my picture. I'm only 17 . Don't judge :) She was kind enough to let me use her ipad and listened to what I wanted and used the picture as a reference. I was also offered water which I thought was nice . She washed my hair which I enjoyed . I felt bad though cause I have a lot of hair and it is a workout. Same with the blowdrying my hair I was really worried that she would cut too much off , like other places I've been too . She assured me that she was going to keep it as long as possible because she loved my hair length and also because she loves long hair. I felt very confident with her as my stylist when she said that so I told do whatever she felt was necessary . She was glad and said she wouldn't let me leave unless she was satisfied. I LOVE MY HAIR CUT AND I LOVE HER !!!! She was so nice and my hair never looked so good!!!!! I am definitely going back ! I told them I wanted to dye my hair ombre and they said that they loved my hair color and would do as little damage as possible and make it look as natural as possible. I like to think I'm a pretty flexible and understanding customer but this salon pushed me to the edge. I originally booked an appointment at 4pm on a Tuesday. When I got there I sat to wait for Yessy who I believe is also the owner. I totally understand waiting up to a half hour before being called but I waited ONE HOUR without anyone updating me on time. Finally I realized that he had 3 women in front of me that he was still working on so I walked to the front desk and asked how much longer it would be and was told at least 2 more hours. HOW IS THAT EVEN NORMAL?! I wouldn't be seen until 7pm when I had a 4pm appointment. I decided to rebook for Saturday at 10am (his first appointment of the day, what could go wrong?). I got a call a day before my appointment telling me that my appointment was moved to 11am but that I was still his first appointment. I came in at 11 and there was no sign of him. One other hair stylist was there and it wasn't until I asked for an update on his status at 11:30 that she texted him. At 11:45 there was still no word from him and I was so frustrated that I just left. I have never had such terrible customer service and wasted a solid 2 1/2 hours sitting waiting on someone who doesn't even have the courtesy to update their customers. I can't even tell you if they're any good at what they do because I wasn't given the opportunity to even speak to the man. Yessy (the salon owner) cuts hair beautifully, but he acts as though his time is more important than everyone else's. He arrives when he's good and ready, and often leaves customers waiting while he chats on his smartphone. So, if your time is flexible, and you want a great haircut, Yessy might be the man for you. Otherwise, make an appointment with one of his employees, or go elsewhere. So glad I happened to run into Yessy( the owner) at the right time, 5 years ago. He and his team there are awesome!! They did a wonderful job on my hair and makeup for my wedding. I have continued to take the hour plus drive to get my hair done there because he is just that good. I have always trusted Yessy to do whatever he thinks would look nice on me with color, highlights, and cuts, and I have never been disappointed. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair and even have people asking me for the contact information. Everyone there whether you have a service scheduled with them or not will constantly make sure you are taken care of whether it be getting you a magazine to read, some water or coffee, to asking you how you are doing and getting to know you, not just treat you like you are just the next person in line. I had a horrible experience, very un professional. I came here with yessy. I had a appointment at noon and once I get there he is nowhere to be found and the receptionist tells me that he will take me in a hour because he has someone before and is busy which didn't make sense to me when he confirmed my appointment with me the day before. So I still end up staying and waiting. Once I'm in the chair I tell him what haircut I want and he tells me okay I got it. Later on when I see my hair and it's super short and completely different from what I told him to do he says oh well I already cut it off there's nothing we can do but to finish the haircut, I told him that's not what I wanted and he's like oh I know I just wanted to do it this way. I'm so upset because I was still charged for a haircut I didn't ask for and won't get a refund for it, but now I have to grow out my hair again and go somewhere else so they have fix it.
