Thought I would review this hair salon, if only because reviews helped me a ton when deciding where to get my hair done. I live in St. Louis and am from California (aka where all the famous expensive hairstylists are), and haven't really found a place that is super experienced on asian hair in St. Louis--for anyone (asian) in St. Louis, if you're really paranoid about hair like me I would get your hair done in Chicago. I was looking for a place that offers balayage, babylights, and Olaplex, and this salon does just that! For a great price as well. And for anyone new to dying hair always get Olaplex, it does wonders for damaged, bleached hair!! I've been in twice so far. During my first session, I got a haircut, ash brown balayage + Olaplex on virgin black hair, with Brenda. I have weird naturally poofy, voluminous, frizzy, and wavy hair (weird for an asian), and this is the first time I've worn my hair natural (without a straight perm) since I was in elementary school. So I was super ambivalent both about cutting my hair and bleaching my hair. Brenda did an amazing job both cutting my hair, and lightening it up to a nice ash brown. And she was super sweet! During my second session (~3 months later), I opted for babylights + Olaplex to a super nice ash blonde, with Savannah. Savannah was also super cool, and did a great job. I've gotten so many compliments since, which always feels nice right? Haha. If I could do it over again, I probably would have gotten babylights first, just because if the end goal is any shade of blonde, babylights lightens up much more of your hair than a balayage does, and makes the end result a little more blended than balayage. Lastly, if you get lucky, there's easy free street parking on the side streets on either side of the salon. Otherwise you're stuck roaming around for a while and parallel parking. read more

I made the mistake of box dyeing my hair. I wanted to dye my hair pink balayage, and all the places downtown either hadn't tried a pink color or were offering it for $400. At a friend's request, I came here and got my hair dyed at a normal price and had a friendly hair stylist! Monica was really thorough and gentle with my hair. It was easy to make an appointment and I got a hair color close to what I was looking for despite my having box dyed it two weeks prior. Also, being Asian, my hair is not one that many salons downtown seem to know how to work with. The Beehive Salon was so professional, friendly, and still realistic about what I should expect. Wow!!! Sunny rocks! I came here on a recommendation from a friend and am so happy I did. I have serious trust issues with hair stylists especially doing color and Sunny did an amazing job. She is very knowledgeable and knows what formulas to use to get the exact look you want. I went from brown with blonde highlights to a cherry coke color. She told me she needed to double process the hair color so it wouldn't fade too quickly. I appreciate that she thought about not just the color but the maintenance. I was also apprehensive because I have Latina hair which is thick and reacts to color differently( tends to turn orange). Sunny gave me a great blow out and overall look. The Beehive puts the B in Blonde! :) I have gotten my hair done by Sunny for awhile now, mainly because she is so talented and knowledgable when it comes to coloring hair, but also for her uplifting attitude she has while working her magic. Her salon definitely makes me feel at home and happy. The space is very intimate and you really feel like you're getting the V.I.P. treatment. I always feel like a model coming out of the salon. I thought I was gonna be happy with this. I'm not. After looking in the mirror with better lighting I see I didn't get auburn highlights. I have blonde. I don't wanna go back because I don't wanna bleach my hair again. I also don't see I have many layers like I asked. My hair was curled so I couldn't tell. None of the top of my hair was dyed. I got my hair done here once last year (i dont remember who but it was an asian girl) and was in love with my hair. I came back last month in order to touch up my roots and blend my hair again. I got Melina as my stylist and i explained to her i wanted a BALAYGE to blend my hair. I even showed her instagram photos. She said okay we will give you some low lights/ foilayge to blend your hair. As she was blow drying my hair I see the choppiness and strands of highlights from the 90s. Do you see how uneven, choppy, blotchy my hair is in these photos? I was so embarrassed to walk around as nothing blended in, rather STOOD OUT. Then was charged $190 for this crap. Supposedly they use "guy tang" products so they charge a hella lot more than before. I had to wait a month to redo my hair somewhere else and the stylist took pictures for me and found blotchiness in my hair. **WARNING**I would never recommend anyone to go here as they are gonna mess up your hair. They probably wont even give me a refund cuz i read the owner fried someones hair off and she went through alot of trouble getting her refund. My sister also had a horrible experience with savannah as she splashed her face with dye, talked on the phone with her bf cuz he opened some credit card. This experience was horrible for the both of us and would NEVER go again. Your stylists need to go get some more training to color hair PROPERLY. Beehive please hire better and stylists. I signed up for a hair appointment with my fiancee. We said two haircuts at 11am on a Saturday. We walked in, they took her right away, asked her by her name. They didn't tell me anything, so I took a seat. After waiting 45 minutes I asked someone if I would be taken care of for my 11am appointment... Now, here it gets good: She said "yes, I'll be taking you right after your girlfriend". I asked when that would be. She said around 1:15. Yes, 2.25 hours later after the original appointment. I was a little taken aback and I said "after 1? I made an appointment for 11am". She did not say anything or offer any apology, but rather said "yes, I was doing both of you. you made an appointment for two right?" This was both our first time at this salon. So, this greedy girl wanted to take us both..while her counterpart sat behind the counter with no appointment or hair to cut. This was our FIRST TIME as I stated. We did not ask for you by name. Nor did we want to wait a combined 3 hours or two haircuts. When I told the woman this, she did not offer an apology. Rather she said, "there's a barber shop right down the street. Why don't you try that?" She requested us to go to a COMPLETELY different place, instead of having someone cut my hair. Terrible terrible experience. I had been searching for new hairstylists since February and since you don't find much talent in the suburbs, I started looking on social media. This is how I discovered the Beehive. The owner of Beehive took care of me. Before washing my hair, she completed a mini consultation on my type of hair, what look I was going for, and asked me what my hair goals where. It didn't occur to me that I needed to have this conversation with her because I cannot remember the last time a hairstylist asked me these questions. (THANK YOU!) I booked an appointment for a haircut. My hair is naturally thin and wavy with soft curls at the ends. My hair was cut in a shoulder-length asymmetrical bob and I wanted to shorten the length and capture the same look. She cut 3 to 3.5 inches and I was so excited because she gave me the exact same look but with sharpness. (I was so happy with the outcome I forgot to take a picture). Originally, I wanted the cut below but because I am overly sensitive about my hair and trusting yet another (new) hairstylist, I wanted to test the waters. The best thing about my hair appointment was the owner's dedicated time to my appointment; I was not a double book client. I arrived on time and she began working on hair. Thank you for not having a wait time! She also took the time in getting to know me and made me feel relaxed, almost as if I was in my own home. Before she began blow drying my hair she asked me how I wanted it styled and because I am very open in trying new things and rarely commit to a certain style, I let her fix it to her liking. I had soft waves that made my hair have volume. Woohoo! Lastly, when two younger ladies walked in asking for bayalage pricing she welcomed them and told them to have a seat. The owner didn't leave me waiting for her to attend to her potential new clients. She walked me to the counter and scheduled my next appointment for color. I can't wait until my next appointment! The only thing I would like for her adjust is the amount of pressure when shampooing my hair. I could feel her soft hands gently massaging my scalp but I would have rather had a stronger scalp massage. It makes me feel that the entire gunk is out of my hair. Also, I tried contacting Beehive through Instagram messenger and I didn't receive a response. (Do you use this for scheduling? ) Beehive is definitely better at scheduling appointments through text message than phone call. The Beehive is small boutique, picture going on a DIY picnic in early fall and capturing all the color changes of the season, you just want to sit there and embrace nature's beauty. read more
