The pictures are of a happier experience at Salon Success Riverside. I also was here close to Christmas 2021 and had a great experience. Too bad I used to LOVE coming here; I received the holiday special of $14 for my root touch up and my bangs trimmed. Today my appointment was canceled without notice after I drove 35 miles to get here. The new "Director" called me and repeated herself 5 times. I told her I had an emergency at home and was running late. She said if I didn't get there by Noon they would cancel my appointment. Hours are until 5 pm. So I hung up on her because she wouldn't stop NAGGING me and I jumped in my 1998 Ford Taurus station wagon -- a gas hog and drove 80 to get there by noon. I arrived at 12:51. When I got into the school she said, snottingly that she had canceled my appointment an said I wasn't welcome back. WTH. Who does this?! I will be getting her name on Monday because today the 877 isn't answering and I doubt she would give me her name. What a HORRIBLE experience. read more

Per my review 24 days ago. Someone from Salon Success just called me and asked if I had an appointment this Saturday. I said, no per the way I was treated last time I just put braids in my hair. She then said, per the Owner I'm not allowed to come to their place of business again. The funny thing is the owner never called me to get the entire story. I guess she just listened to the people she pays to work for her. Like they are really going to say I did something wrong to a client. So don't put up a negative review for Salon Success or you will not be permitted back into there business. I will be making a report today with the BBB. Keep placing nice reviews so you can get your next service for free!! It's interesting when you get second hand information. I came in the week before asking for the same lady that had done my hair two weeks prior (she was Latino not black) she was graduating the Thursday prior the Saturday I requested. Look it up! When I asked for her she came out and told me she was graduating and wouldn't be taking any clients past Thursday. That when the young lady I made an appointment with said, she would do my hair. It's enough racism going on today. So you really didn't need to use the race card. Remember you are in the hair business not politics. Secondly I wasn't rude to anyone when I was there. That's why if you really cared you would've called to get both sides not just the side you are partial to. Just for the record I wasn't rude to anyone the last time I was there! I'm surprised I didn't write a review when I first came here in 2019 when I first moved to Riverside. During my first experience, I was able to book an appointment for an evening slot on a weekday for a balayage. Since it was an evening slot, the instructor had to help the students a little so that my hair would be finished in a timely matter. I can't recall the exact time, but I thought it was around 4 ish hours (I get off at work at 5:30 pm and the salon closes at 9:30 pm). They were able to do a full haircut with layers in addition to the balayage. I remember that it was the best coloring services for my hair that I had received thus far since they were able to achieve a nice caramel color for the balayage. I also used a Groupon, so it was a very reasonable price. I also don't recall any additional costs for toner. Overall, for my first experience, I was very impressed with the color of my hair and the price. Fast forward to 2021, and I wanted to try an Ombré style with a blond color (with my black hair, I knew it was unlikely to ever get the color I wanted). I ended up getting a mix of gold, brown, and red for my ombré (I think they did a mix of balayage in there), and I was still pretty pleased with the results. Any time my hair noticeably changes color, I would accept it since I've been to other salons where you pay good money with no change in hair color. My hair stylist was very friendly and meticulous. In addition to doing a good job with the color, he was able to trim my layered hair the way I wanted it. Sadly, the back of my shirt accidentally got bleached. He apologized a few times to me, so that was nice. Other cons with this second experience was that it took much longer this time (around 6.5 hours) even though my hair was shorter and I only asked for a trim this time around, and they also charged me an extra $25 for toner. The first bottle of toner is free but they said they used more this time, which is odd because my hair was actually lighter the first time, and I had longer hair the first time, but yet I don't recall any extra charges the first time. Overall, in my opinion, the students here do a good job with balayage/ombré, and there is enough instructor supervision to make me feel comfortable that I won't leave with green hair. I think my first appointment exceeded my expectations in that the color was exactly what I wanted, the time spent was not excessive, and the price was a very good deal. The second time around, I was surprised it took more than 6 hours for a relatively similar style to the first time, and there was an extra $25 charge. I also left with a shirt that was ruined beyond repair. read more

Have gone 4 different times and left with out services. 2 times I had called 2 days ahead to schedule an appt. Got there at my appt time and nothing on there records. 3rd time scheduled a mani pedi and got there and they didn't do that service on the day. 4th and last time (I will not go back). Go there at my appt and stated they are short staff but taking walk ins. I left. After waiting 45mins just to get checked in and told that. Don't recommend going there. read more

SO DISAPPOINTED WITH MY HAIRCUT !!! i came today for "free haircut friday" i had beautiful LONG HEALTHY HAIR , the girl "madison" convinced me to get 3 inches off (she showed me a pic of 3 inches and it didnt look like too much) she cut off WAYY MORE THAN 3 inches. i asked for regular face framing , no layers just STRAIGHT ACROSS and it came out SO CHOPPY, not blended at all‍‍ they tried fixing it but it just took off more of my length. they blamed it on my hair being "too thick" i guess this is my fault for trusting a student, never again ! read more

Even though I've been working across the parking lot for over a year, I didn't know that this place would take customers! I finally decided to call one day and schedule a service. I came in on a Friday evening and got my haircut by a girl name Anna Lee? (Sorry) And I love it so much! To be fair I only get my haircut once or twice a year, and with Covid I was even more overdue. So it was getting really damaged and frizzy looking. I am so much happier with the length and the ease of styling it! Now I kind of wanna go back and have them color my hair. I am 53, there's plenty of silver to hide. I'm also looking forward to scheduling a Mani-pedi one day! I really enjoyed everyone's energy and great music! I had my hair done it took two days since I had a lot done to it. First Yo Sveryany did my root touch up and haircut. The next day I went back and Daisy did partial highlights on my hair. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures however I am very pleased with the results!! He an appointment at 2pm. Arrived and had to pay up front. Was seated for 30 mins and they kept whispering like something was wrong. Then they announce BREAK TIME extremely loud. I told them I have been sitting here for 30 mins and how much longer. The girl started talking to everyone else and whispering and left through the front door. I waited a few more minutes in case someone would give me an answer and of course no one did. I asked the lady who was sitting in an office for a refund and she said sure. No questions nothing. I told her that I have been sitting there for 30 mins. She has the nerve to tell me that I came in at at a time where the students have had so many clients throughout the day and are taking their breaks and lunches now. Hello.. you guys are the ones who booked me for this time and didn't have anyone available. Then I told her it was unprofessional to speak through me when I asked a certain question about how long. No One addressed me or told me anything. Very unprofessional behavior. Students or not, they have to talk to people. If not, the one "supervising" should step in. I ended up leaving and going somewhere professional down the street that charged me $4 more for less headache and was done in 30 mins. Do not recommend. What a waste of time and unprofessional staff. Had a full color service done today with a cut and style. My stylists were Crystal and Gilbert, and they both did an excellent job. My color and cut turned out beautifully, and it was a big change from blond to chocolate brown. I would definitely recommend this academy...happy students, knowledgeable supervisors, and positive energy. i came to this salon for some highlights added to my hair, my stylist's name was Ixy she was really nice and talked me through each step, she did a test strand and my hair was too weak for highlights but we ended up dying it black and i love it! she did a really good job. 10/10 recommend, the prices are very affordable. read more

Alonzo wasn't very comfortable with textured hair (3c/4a) but his attitude was amazing. He genuinely wanted to learn. Gabby who is also a student walked him through the process and explained to him not only how to work with curly African American hair, she went a step further and explained why it should be done a certain way. I initially thought she was a student-teacher. As a customer patronizing a school you need to understand that it won't always be done perfectly. There's absolutely no way 5 stars can describe the service I received from Salon Success Academy. Everyone was great with great customer service and all helped each other in their respective roles. But I personally had a great experience with one individual in particular and that was Jo Jo . Talk about hands down immaculate service, and I'm just not saying this she delivered excellent service exactly like she stated and exactly what I asked for she made every moment very entertaining and comfortable. She is the definition of a perfectionist when it comes to her craft and talent. Her energy was amazing, she walked me through her process step by step and ensured me of the quality she provides and she didn't miss a beat. Yes this is a school but the students here are definitely above and ahead of their game and time. I really can't find the words to describe my experience other than just simply amazing.
