I can appreciate this type of venue so much more as an older person with kids. Haha. The diner vibe has been beckoning to the nostalgic part of me as I grow with my kids so give them the same experience. I love this location way more than Menlo Park. I'm bummed they took away the options to add your own produce as I didn't like that option pre covid (tastes and opinions have changed). The burger bowl with the ahi sauce is so filling and delicious. I wish they sold that sauce separately so I can put on my breakfast. Seriously consider it, I'd buy it by the bottle. Amazing food and ambiance! Came here for lunch and really enjoyed it. It has a retro vibe, which I feel is pretty rare for the Bay Area. It was super empty when I arrived (late 11am ish) but it picked up really fast. There's tons of seating inside, including at the counter. The staff is also great and the food came out super fast. The food was really good. I'm quite picky about my burgers, and theirs was amazing. The meat is tender and flavorful, the bun is soft, and the dressing compliments everything well. In addition, I got a milkshake and chili cheese fries. The milkshake felt like 3 servings, so there's definitely a ton of value. We visited this place two times. Both times we got our food to go. The first time, we ordered a mushroom burger and French fries with chili con carne. We loved the burger, but we didn't like the fries. Not because there was anything wrong with the preparation, we just didn't enjoy the style. The second time, we ordered the same mushroom burger again, and I also got the teriyaki pineapple burger. This time we chose the garlic fries. Unfortunately, the second visit wasn't as enjoyable. My husband said the mushroom burger was pretty dry and not as good as the first time. As for the pineapple teriyaki burger, I might have had higher expectations, but I didn't feel any distinct flavors. It was kind of bland, and one of the buns was very wet and soggy, which wasn't pleasant. The garlic fries were okay, but as you can see in the picture, there was a lot of garlic piled on top. I wish it had been distributed more evenly, because grabbing fries along with chunks of garlic by hand isn't very comfortable. Overall, the prices are affordable, which is a plus. I have driven past this for years and never stopped by so this week I was in San Mateo and had to kill some time so it was suggested to me by a local business. I didn't do anything special just a burger with everything and it was a tasty burger for sure. I was thinking of In-N-0ut earlier as I was next door to one but the parking lot was a mess so decided to head to San Mateo. I was immediately thinking when I saw that burgers were starting at $11 that I should have just done a double double for $6 bucks, but I was pleased when he asked me how I wanted my burger cooked. Good, this isn't a fast food. Burger was solid medium rare and toppings were excellent. It was $16 for burger and drink, skipped the fries and onion rings so cannot say anything about that, but I will for sure try it again sometime soon. read more

One of the best burger shops in the Bay with many locations. They have reasonable prices, not to mention their delicious milkshakes which are big enough to share as they fill up two containers. Their bacon burger and pineapple teriyaki burger are my favorites. The diner-like interior has booth seating and a good corner window seat. I've been to this place only twice and in only the past year. I think what mostly bothers me about this place is that the price is a bit steep. A single burger is $10.99 and I believe a single cheeseburger is $12.99. If you want to add an extra patty, it's $7. The patty is quite small to begin with. So seven bucks for an extra one is a little outrageous. This last time last week I ordered the bacon burger and my wife ordered the avocado burger and a side of fries. I think it came up to about 42 bucks and change. As like the first time we were here the patty was very small for what you get. They're chinsing out which is what I don't like... The french fries were nice and hot but they were twice fried and not made to order, so they didn't have the good flavor. The burger itself didn't have much flavoring but the bacon was really good. Also, hers and mine were cooked the same. I asked for medium rare and I believe she asked for medium. Both burgers were also very messy, they need to squeeze out some of the juices prior to serving. It was just dripping all over the container. I can't remember if this was the case the last time I don't think it was. Like the first time I was leaving feeling a bit hungry still... This place seems to have a following so to each their own. I definitely think there can be room for improvement. The staff was very nice. The location's clean. There's a parking lot adjacent to the building. It was a little cold inside. And we didn't wait long for our order. They do use fresh ingredients which is a positive. And I do like to see a business that hires a good amount of people. I don't mind paying what I paid for because of that fact. But I shouldn't be leaving hungry and and the burger should be a little more substantial in accordance with the price. I don't think we'll be coming back. That's not just sway you away from not coming here. Like I said they do have a following so it's worth at least checking it out for yourself. read more

This review is solely for the burger bowls. Service was fine, and I was able to order ahead so picking it up was fairly smooth. The bowls are relatively inexpensive (roughly $13) and filling. I got the veggie option and didn't mind the garden burger patty. I wasn't a fan of the greens though, and wish there was an option for darker leafy greens, like arugula or kale. The toppings are also a bit lacking, although I did opt for avocado. I probably would not recommend the burger bowls, but will need to try other items on the menu. read more

Can't believe I haven't reviewed a San Mateo staple! This has been here forever. I came here after I graduated from Aragon which was a whiiiiile ago. Safe to say the quality of the burgers never changed! I went with a patty melt with pepperjack cheese and mushrooms which was surprisingly filling. Sweet potato fries WITH the spicy aji sauce was the highlight of the meal. My wife and I LOVED the aji sauce, we wanted to order a bottle of it but not sure if that's sold separately. I was told that the sauce was made in-house! Perfect amount of kick. It was like an avocado crema kinda? Hard to describe, really good on the fries and burger. My wife scarfed down her pineapple teriyaki burger in less than 5 min, a testament to how great the burger was. And how hungry she was lol. I didn't get a milkshake this time around, but from what I can remember, their milkshakes are bomb too. Wasn't too busy on a Sunday afternoon. They have a covered outdoor seating area in the back. This was a really good burger! Diner decor, nice and clean with a good retro vibe and the food was awesome. I had a burger with swiss cheese and I have to say, the tomatoes on this burger were hands down the best burger joint tomatoes I've ever been lucky enough to get, ripe red all the way thru and tasting like fresh off the vine. Really the perfect kick if you like tomato on your burger. I did not try their sides this time, I was not hungry enough that day, but I will be trying them next time. You order at the counter and then sit down and they bring it to you, and the counter people and wait staff were all super friendly and nice to chat with. You order at the counter and grab a number to sit anywhere you like. The water station is self-serve. Their burgers are huge, especially the double cheeseburger. Even though the mushroom burger only had one patty compared to the double cheeseburger, it was more than enough food. The burgers are super juicy and hearty. The garlic fries seemed to have more cheese on top than garlic. Although the garlic is quite spicy if you get a dollop of it on a single fry. You can tell a a lot of locals eat here.
