First impressions were not so good, the pizza cheese looked hardened from sitting on the counter as everything was pre-prepped. We weren't allowed to sit down as one of the staff members said that seating was closed for seating at 1AM but it says they're open for at least a few more hours after 1AM? Prices are pretty high as well. However, they pass the pizza through the oven before serving it and I will say that it was pretty good. I stopped at Sal's for a slice after a show at First Ave, as is my tradition, and then proceeded to get mugged on the Warehouse District light rail platform (totally not Sal's fault, though the perps were in line in front of me). I lost my slice in the process, but when I went into Sal's to get a bottle of water to flush my eyes (the muggers used pepper spray), they also replaced my lost slice (a tasty spinach and cheese that I ate in the HCMC emergency room waiting for the cut on the bag of my head to be checked out). After paying $19 for a slice of pizza and a calzone, I was not impressed by this venue. The pizza had decent crust with a good crunch to it, but the flavor profile was simplistic and not tasty. The pizza i got was a triple meat. The location of the pizza is pretty solid, by all means they chose a good spot. However, for sure late at night it will be crazy. The reason why i gave this place a 3 star is because being that it is in the middle of most bar it doesnt take any credit card. So they're basically making you take out cash with a surcharge of $4.25 and then the pizza itself is $8.10. So pretty much a slice of pizza comes out to be about $9 plus tax. That is pretty pricey compared to other places. A slice of pizza shouldn't cost me $9 dollar. It wasnt that good, the cheese wasn't pulling and the meat is a little dry. Curiosity got the best of me, so I grabbed a slice of mac and cheese pizza. It was surprisingly good and not nearly as weird as I expected it to be. The firmness of the crust combined with the creaminess of the cheese and the chewiness of the noodles added an odd sort of balance to it. The sandwich's comes with fries. My boyfriend ordered "Big Fat Greek Burger" and this also comes with fries. The burger was delicious. The fries were crunchy and firm. Bottom line, portions are "big" so bang for your buck, food is good and the order arrived very fast. So fast service. I will order again. We ordered buffalo chicken tenders, a Stromboli and cheese curds. The tenders came with bbq sauce instead of buffalo and the blue cheese was so expired that it ran like water. It was awful. The Stromboli, I asked for no sausage or pancetta... it had both and it was baked until the sauce inside was dry. They didn't even read the order to correctly modify it for allergies and It was disgusting. When I tried to call to have it corrected or at least get a refund for those two items... the phone is disconnected. I've never written a bad review on here but this was a waste of $65. I got there and the very rude and intimidating 1 and only worker said he had no order. So I preceded to explain that I went to google and it shows this app to order pickup. My friend Steve and I went in a walk as the night grew cold and windy. On the way back we took the light rail and it stopped near Hennepin near the Pour House. At 10:30 at night this was open. We went in. Pizza by the slice. But freaking pricy I thought. 2 slices of the Gyros / Mediterranean and a Diet Coke (Steve had a slice, they were big). $17. No credit cards. I've had decent food here in the past, but the customer service is simply non-existent. You're a dollar sign and not a customer. On a Halloween weekend out last year with a 10-min wait, I was handed the order of a customer before me who must have decided against paying and they rang it up demanding I pay for the meal that wasn't mine or even of interest to me. Sal's is a busy stop after bar close, and features a variety of specialty pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, and sides. If you're a pizza lover like me, you adore a good pizza-by-the-slice place. I got a chicken alfredo pizza slice ($4.50 for a specialty pizza slice) and my roommate got the spaghetti meatballs pizza slice (listed as one of the business's favorites). My roommate loved his, but I thought my pizza could've been better. It was good and they put it in the oven for a few minutes, so it was crispy, but the chicken and alfredo did not have much flavor. Another reason why I would suggest going to other nearby pizza places after bar close or at any other time in fact is because this place gets ROWDY. The security man at the door takes his job very seriously, but I have seen many fights and arguments at the doorway of Sal's.
