Came in for a pizza, and the service was spot on. Nice and crispy was the crust, good and thin and still piping hot when we grabbed it to go. We were out in the area and I wanted to stop by since Portnoy gave them a good score. We were about 25 minutes out and the food was basically ready when we got there to pick up. Horrible order. Food was 30 minutes late for a pickup. They added onions to one of my pizzas and it was supposed to be sausage only. I hate onions. Pizza was supposed to be no cut and it was clearly written with red marker on the receipt. They cut it into TINY squares. We threw it in the garbage. Other pizza had almost no sauce and the little sauce on it tasted like water. Our order of cream cheese poppers were cheddar cheese, which we don't like. They were cold and the cheese was hard like they were sitting out for an hour. They didn't include any ranch for the poppers. They just lost a long time customer for good. $82 down the drain. I have always said that Sal's is the only decent Pizza place in the area, especially when people new to the area ask. Now I will be telling them stay away from Sals. I ordered a sausage pizza and chicken parmesan. The pizza had sausage pieces in casings that looked like leftover italian sausages from sandwiches. The pizza dough had a weird taste similar to being in a smelly fridge too long or freezer burn - we know, your dough is made fresh daily. What is wrong with me, I've haven't talked about Sal's? There are many things wrong with me, and that 4000 page book is for another time. The little pizza places are what I always look for. Sal's is a staple. Don't be fooled by it's location and exterior appearance, this workhorse is around the corner of a 7-eleven building. The appearance is small but internally, thanks to the hard workers doing their thing, they produce some great pizza. Their tavern style is classic, thin (but not cracker thin) crust has generous, tangy sauce, and hearty, fresh toppings. I like that the sausage isn't too salty like other places. Don't sleep on their wings, they are meaty and done right. Sal's is 100% pickup or delivery. They have other options for pizza, appetizers, hot sandwiches, pasta, ribs, salad, etc. Dave Portnoy recently put them on an extended map..beyond word of mouth from locals. I never expected him to show up near my neck of the woods, but if he was in search of a "real deal" or "go-to" tavern-style pizza, he made the right decision. Best pizza in town!! Great service and great deals. My family drives over 30 minutes to get Sals, they are our family's favorite for over 3 years. Their pizza is fresh and tastes like no other. Even if they mess up (only occurred once), they make up for it and treat us like valued customers. The workers also appear to enjoy their job and want to be there. Ordered an Italian beef for the first time with this location compared to Huntley, They literally put 50% less beef in the sandwich at this location for the same price, I called to complain about it, and the guy who answered, says that Huntley isn't abiding by their new "standards" And claimed they were in the wrong, but I believe this Algonquin location is in the wrong because Huntley has been perfect for over two decades. It's been a while since we ordered and glad we went back to our favorite. The medium deep dish cheese , sausage and green onion was utterly over the top..
