Over priced and lack of flavor in ingredients, cheese and dough. We ordered a "Chicago" Thin Crust Pizza and with all the toppings on that pizza, it still tasted like nothing. No amount of crushed red pepper, Parmesan or hot sauce could add enough flavor to make it enjoyable. I'm so disappointed in this place. Was hoping this was a good mom and pop shop to order pizza from. Our large pizza was $30. Biggest waste of money on pizza! Wings - now their wings are good! I asked for sauce on the side so wings were dry. They were not greasy and skin was crunchy. They looked to be air fried. The BBQ that comes with it is delicious, not too sweet and seems to have a vinegar base just more towards the sweet side. Sal's is decent pizza compared to chains but the people acting like it's incredible must have never traveled outside of the suburbs for pizza. It costs an arm and a leg too. I love good pizza and this place is right next to my house and I hardly ever order it, which I think says it all. read more

Didn't get a good photo before devouring the pizza. I got a medium thin crust and it was honestly big enough for 3 people. I just had 2 people and leftovers I ordered the Sals special without olives and it was amazing. They definitely give you all the toppings! I would try again and prob just do a couple toppings next time to get more of the crust. definitely thin and crispy though. Would try the wings next. Fabulous carry out thin crust pizza! The first time we ordered from here it was a loaded meat lovers pizza for the hubs. And it was terrific! So I wanted to see what they would do with a thin crust pepperoni and it was just great. What I really like is that the pizza is perfectly done but reheats - perfectly! Good stuff! read more

Behind a very unassuming store front, in back of a 7-Eleven off Algonquin Road, you'll find a beehive of pizza activity. On a Friday night, I counted three adults, and a dozen teenagers (not including delivery dudes), making, baking pizzas, sandwiches, answering the phone, taking orders, waiting on walk-in customers at the counter. After thirty years in the pizza business at a couple of different locations in Chicago, Sal packed up his family and moved to Algonquin. He purchased a local operating pizza delivery biz in 1996, rejigged the operation, put in his family recipes, and the rest is history, as they say. Sal's is frequently listed on every "best" and "favorite" list published in the Northwest suburbs. As I have been grazing my way through area pies, I had yet to try Sal's, and I had the opportunity last night. Not sure if they delivered to my side of the tracks, I called in an order and was told it would be ready in 20-25 minutes. Westbound traffic crossing the river at the end of the day is horrific under the best of circumstances, so I wasn't worried about dawdling on my way over there. I was surprised to arrive to a full parking lot, and an even fuller 8X8 waiting/pick up room, crammed with customers picking up pizzas, sandwiches, pasta , chicken dinners, and food of that ilk. I had ordered a large sausage pie and an Italian beef/sausage combo sandwich with fries. An enthusiastic teen (or six) asked if they could help me, I told them my name, order, they told me how much, and money changed hands. They said there running a bit behind, and it would be a few minutes. It was more than a few, but no matter, I am happy they are prospering, and they (unnecessarily) comped me a six pack of soda for the "inconvenience." I didn't really feel inconvenienced, but most every woman I have ever been involved with has told me I get "this look" when I reach a certain level of impatience. I'm not sure what it looks like, and it's involuntarily. I understand that "things" happen in a small business. In any case, food in my paws, along with free soda, motored home to dig into my pie. Wow. Really. Wow. This being Chicago, you have a pizza place on practically every corner (right next to the hot dog/beef shop), and that's not even including the national chains. Sal's deserves all the accolades its receives. And your business. With a flaky, chewy thin crust, flavorful sauce, and handsome sized pieces of hand-pulled Italian sausage, and a very generous serving of real cheese, this is a great pizza. As you know, I think the true test of a good pizza is how it works out for breakfast the next morning, having sat on the counter all night, and Sal's passes with flying colors. Good job, folks. O. M. G. !!!! This little mom & pop place that is takeout or delivery only is my VERY FAVORITE place for thin crust pizza IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. PERIODT. (lol) Seriously, You need to get your next pizza pie from Sal's. Their Chicago style deep dish is comparable to DiGiordano's and Lou Malnati's (fight me!). Many trivia goers tend to order Sal's and it has always smelled delicious. Being that the kids were out of the house and I was way beyond tired to cook, I thought it was just about time to try Sal's. We ordered a small pepperoni thin-crust pizza to split (yes... we accept that we have no portion control with pizza... thus the small) and 8 hot wings per another reviewer. I am a fan of hot wings and am very particular with the style. It can't be too greasy or have too much breading. Also, the sauce has to be hot. Like, hot hot. Not an arbitrary spice that "makes" it hot, just heat with a good flavor to bring out the taste of the chicken. These wings met my high standards, and I think next time I'll shake the container to disperse the sauce a little better. The pizza had a tasty cheese and covered the pizza from crust to crust. The sauce and pepperoni were tangy... basically, this pizza had no chance. It was absolutely demolished and I don't have a single regret. I'm very pleased with the overall quality of Sal's. There are many pizza places in the area, and many are either inconsistent in quality or don't exactly meet what I'm looking for in terms of price or taste. I'll have to keep Sal's as my go-to for my pizza cravings. read more

Pretty sure I tried it in 2022, and thought it was ok. Fast forward to late fall 2023, saw Bar stool sports review it, and thought oh I know where that place is. OK so like all the social media fools I tried Sals because of Portnoy. I have lived in the area for 20 years and never gave this hole in the wall a chance and i love a good hole in the wall. I ordered this past weekend and am I kicking myself for not jumping on board sooner. The pizza was cooked to perfection with a very generous amount of fresh toppings and I really liked the sauce. It was ready as promised and was piping hot. Young man at the front was super courteous even though they were getting slammed. The price as in comparison to other local spots was great considering the size of the pie and the quality. Finally tried Sal's tonight. The stuffed crust, very good pizza and the family said yes to the "should we get it again" question. The thin crust southwestern pizza - I didn't ask the question, didn't even care what anyone said. There's no question I'm getting this again. A near masterpiece of a pizza!
