Checked out Sals while in the area. This is a family style restaurant. It's casual and welcoming, you walk in and sit anywhere. Our waitresses was nice and quick. We ordered a gyro and a Greek skillet. The skillet was just what I needed. High in protein with gyro meat and topped with two Sunnyside eggs above a bed of smashed fries, feta cheese and tzatiki. Came in on our Saturday exploring Michigan. We were seated immediately (pick your own spot) and greeted as soon as we walked in. The waitstaff is outstanding. Super on it. We ordered and received our food so fast! I was super impressed because I ordered a side of fries as our food came out and it was delivered to the table within mins. Our coffees were replenished often and we were very attended. It's what I imagine most diners to be, casual, nice ambiance inviting with friendly people. I've not seen a restaurant run this smoothly in quite some time. Communication between the staff, customers, the rate they turn tables was all very impressive and showed the level of service that's provided. Such a cute brunch spot. As visitors from Texas to see the Michigan/Ohio State football game, we stopped at Sal's for breakfast before leaving for home. This place was absolutely amazing! You could tell that it was a popular locals spot because the waitstaff knew others as they came in.We were welcomed and made to feel at home. I checked out the reviews, and they were spot on. No wait to be seated in this open dining setting. My Cod entree included soup, salad, and potato--excellent, light and delicious breading. The server was correct about it being the best cod in Monroe County. It also was a welcomed surprise to get a bread basket with the meal. I also saved room for their famous Banana bread pudding. The ambiance is straight up diner. We were greeted and seated quickly. There is an extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. We had the jumbo shrimp dinner and chicken sandwich basket with chili and fries. It was nice to get a bread basket, soup or salad with fries. The food was very tasty. The server friendly. We happened upon this place while seeking out a restaurant for breakfast. On our way home from a trip to Ohio. After getting off the expressway in Monroe, I looked on yelp, and this came up as a very popular hole in the wall which is exactly what I was looking for. I got my usual egg white veggie omelette with American fries and rye toast. My friend got the two egg special and with bacon, hash browns and toast the price was only $6.99! You don't see those kind of prices very often! We both enjoyed our food, the waitresses were very helpful and friendly and service was fast. We are back again and I have forgotten how good Sals is. The Ruben.grinder is the best! We asked for crispy fries a we got piping hot very crispy fries! It was a strange surreal experience! We were in town visiting family, and whenever I'm in the MI area I seek out a gyro skillet for breakfast - Sal's provided! It was PACKED when we arrived but were seated and served very quickly. We were told Sal himself was in the kitchen! The skillet was good but the hashbrowns were a little mushy. I honestly tend to eat all my food (all the time lol) but I left most of my hashbrowns. Probably better for me in the long run ;) And they had the BEST tzatziki sauce which the waitress said was made in house. YUM. My husband ordered the coney omelette. Kind of odd but he said he wanted eggs and coneys so it seemed like a good idea. He said it was pretty good and scratched all of his itches. I feel that their breakfast has really gone downhill. Biscuits seemed microwaved and if you don't eat immediately are hard as rocks, and the gravy taste like flour paste. And bacon is cooked to death, it crumbles as soon as you pick it up. Lunch however is much better. Soups are homemade and taste pretty good. Today I got the lunch special which was beef vegetable soup, chicken gyro and fries. Gyro was good, fries were crispy and hot. I have had the chicken Cobb salad before which is also very good. Nice choice of home cooked meals. Goulash, chicken pot pie, cabbage rolls, lasagna, etc. Great service with hardworking servers who don't forget about you once you get your food. The size of portions is generous. A good family dining spot with a somewhat crowded space. Booths against the walls with many tables between. You can easily carry on a conversation with your friends, so it's not overly crowded or loud. They make you feel like you're a valued customer. Great little place. I got the perch dinner, it's enough for two, too bad I'm by myself I had to eat it all. Hand breaded perch. I got the coleslaw, which I liked, thin sliced cabbage and slaw dressing, simple and delicious, you get the slight horseradish flavor when you don't try and put extra stuff in it. Staff was very busy, but still friendly. I did take out, my order was ready in less then 10min. The place was about half full, with a steady take out. My only complaints are my salad had water in the bottom, they must not have had time to let the lettuce drain after washing. The wait staff and kitchen staff were at all hands on deck when I was there. The corn meal breading on the perch is almost perfect, I would like a slight kick, but maybe that would over power the perch? read more

We love Sal's Place! It's our local breakfast diner & Coney Island. The staff is super friendly and the food comes out quickly & piping hot. We love the blueberry pancakes for breakfast- they're loaded with fresh blueberries, so delicious! The portions on the breakfast skillets are over the top! You will be bringing some home with you. Shabby in appearance and service (the wait staff, not knowing who I am, treated non-binary me with thinly disguised disdain), and reflected the same with their food - shabby. I'm pretty sure they used commercial grade ground beef because the chili kept coming back on me for hours afterwards. And the hot dog I had with it? Plain ordinary and overpriced at that. The high rating here might be explained by hometown loyalty as this appears to be the only diner in this little town. If you're traveling, look further down the road. read more

They have placed as many seating as they possibly can in this tiny establishment. It's very loud. Plainly decorated yet clean. The service is friendly, attentive and quick. I want to eat here everyday. The breakfast items were the bomb and I wanted to order dinner to go because it was so cheap. So we came about 1pm. I don't care what time I wake I want breakfast. Very simple. For half order of French toast with bacon homefries with cheese. Babe gor a western omelet with home fries and toast. We could have shared his portion with the size. Check the pics.
