We've been here a few times with family when we come into town. Restaurant is large and they do a good job accommodating our large parties (10 to 15). Food is reasonably priced and pretty good. The chips and salsa is your typical Mexican restaurant fare. Burritos and tacos are good, but I do prefer their Carna Asada. It's very tender and usually cooked correctly. My fiancé also enjoys the fried ice cream, which is huge! read more

Food is generally good and filling, price is decent. We usually eat in. Did a takeout yesterday, gift for an ailing friend, ordered and paid for extra tortillas with the two large soups. Bag was tied shut, got it home, no tortillas or any chips among the napkins in the bag. Disappointing. And, 35 cent container charge for every ordered item. This thing I'm forcing down my throat makes me feel like a cheap hooker that is late on rent. Even though I'm starving I still feel like eating moldy bread and wishing for the best. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Amazing food at a great price with unbeatable customer service! Food always comes out hot and fresh within minutes of ordering. This time we had Olvin as our server, and let me tell you he was on it! He was very attentive and checked in with us many times to make sure we didn't need anything. My wife, daught, son and I entered the establishment to have lunch today. I informed the gentleman in front that we had two adult's and two children in our party. Our son is only two-year-old so understandably he only grabbed three menus as he proceeded to seat us. As we flowed him to the table he threw the menus down and walked away. This representative of Salsa's Mexican Café did not greet my family and I, nor did he say anything after taking us to the table and throwing our menu's down. As a result of this we elected to not dine at this establishment and walked out. We are a mixed race family whereby my wife is from San Luis Potosi S.L.P, Mexico. We had eaten at Salsa's Mexican Café several month's earlier. The service was less than desirable then, and this was us giving them a second chance to redeam tgemselves based on the less the desirable dining experience we had with this establishment previously. The only thing my wife and I can surmise is that there are not any real Mexican restaurant's here in Southern, Maryland Salsa's Mexican Café being the closest thing to Mexican food aside from a few other flyby night TexMex establishments. To the unknowing who think they know or do not know Salsa's Mexican Café does not serve authentic Mexican food. They serve the same store bought garbage that any person could prepare in the microwave at their place of adobe! The owner's or representatives of Salsa's Mexican Café realize that they have the residents and other's hoodwinked believing they are having a Mexican food dining experience. Because of this their r go's gave preceeded their own britches as they believe they have a Monopoly in the Mexican food in distress not realizing that there are those of us who know better. I am disappointed that on two occasions my family and I have had such horrible dinning experiences at Salsa's Mexican Café. We will never again patronize this establishment nor recommend anyone else dine there. read more

No, no, no. You're better off going to chipotle or even Taco Bell for Mexican food! Don't listen to the locals who tell you this place is good. We found a hair in our salsa (the irony of the restaurant's namesake was not lost on me), the food left us feeling sick and bloated and they gave us the wrong bill. Stay home and perfect your own mole or favorite Mexican dish. It will have more flavor and less hair in it. read more

Nice menu variety and price. Had some unusual menu items like bean enchiladas and mushroom enchiladas. Don't know how authentic they are, but kudos for creativity. Ingredient quality was fine and service was great. My only complaint is that my enchiladas themselves (I had cheese, beef, and chicken) were a little bland, and the cheese was white American (instead of Queso Fresco, or Monterrey Jack, I dunno, anything but American, please!!) Overall, I liked the restaurant and I'd go back if I lived here. This place us awful. It is cheap because it is cheap and terrible food. The food is bland and does not resemble Mexican food at all. You are better off getting the cheapest burrito from the frozen food section in a supermarket because that is 5 star gourmet compared to the food here. I ordered chicken nachos and my wife orders a traditional steak burrito. The nachos were chips ( some stale and most soft and squishy) covered in shredded chicken with no flavor or any seasoning and what I think was a tablespoon of tasked cheese. It had to have been prepared in a microwave . The burrito was no better . All it had was steak, nasty canned sauce , 4 small pieces of onions and some cheese. No rice, no beans, no peppers nothing. My advice if you want cheap Mexican and want to actually get some enjoyment out of it is hit the supermarket or Taco Bell. read more

First time I've ever been. I ordered the Cream Enchiladas, they were delicious. Perfect portions for me...I was full, but not stuffed. Very affordable (killer lunch deals!). The service was very friendly and eager to please. Chips, salsa, and guacamole was brought out very fast. Reminded me of Anita's chips...but the salsa was better (not watery). The food was prepared and brought out within 10 minutes of ordering...very fast service :) This place makes great food! I will look forward to eating here again in the future when I am in SoMD. Say what you want about Salsa's, but I am a true devotee of this restaurant ever since my best friend (a local) introduced me to it three years ago. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal here! Sure, maybe it's not FULLY AUTHENTIC Mexican food, but please keep in mind the region where you are dining! I think it does the trick just fine. The service is always great, and the chips and salsa come IMMEDIATELY to you as soon as you sit down - which is important, because when I come here, I usually have chosen to fast all day in preparation (I get a bit hangry). Service is also crazy quick, too! The wait is never long. The burritos verdes honestly haunt my dreams, they are delicious both with chicken and steak. Pro Tip: If you aren't trying to gorge yourself, consider ordering off of the side dishes/a la carte section. You can get yourself a lil enchilada and a quesadilla for around five bucks. Our waiter Julian came to us to get our drink order, food, and checks. Didn't come back one time. Not pleased with the service I got today from him. The pros: Super cheap ($5-6 for lunch entrees), large portions, delicious seasonings (I had the chicken chipotle salad), and fast service. The cons: I live in Baltimore and can't eat here daily. I have previously visited salsa's when visiting a friend and the service was absolutely great! The 2nd time not as much. I was visiting from out of state where and there was apparently an issue because I use a vertical ID. The state where I live does not require you to update your horizontal license especially if it hasn't expired. My server was very rude when I was trying to explain that I was 22 and that I didn't have to update my license(I have visited many other states where I never had a problem using my ID). Still after many attempts of trying to explain my point he threatened to cancel both our drink orders because we were simply trying to explain our point. After that, he never came back to check on our table and was very rude and dismissive. We had to flag down other servers to get our bill. Next time I'll bring my birth certificate, and passport, and have the doctor who delivered me on speed dial just so I can prove that I am of age. Food was delicious though!! read more

My family has a strange (but fun) tradition of going to Mexican restaurants on Christmas Eve, so we were happy that Salsa's was open this year! It seemed like quite a few other people also had the same idea, because it was pretty busy when we went! Although we generally drive closer to Waldorf to go to Tequila Grill, I enjoyed Salsa's food, service, and prices. The most important for me is that Salsa's had white cheese (queso blanco). I really don't like Mexican restaurants that use cheddar or similar cheeses on their tacos....the queso blanco really pulls it all together. To start, we got cheese dip and enjoyed a ton of chips, salsa, and dip. The chips were a good medium. They weren't incredibly light like Chevy's, but they weren't hard either. The salsa was tasty and the melted queso blanco...well, how could you go wrong with that? I got the Speedy Gonzalez lunch deal for under $5, so I got a hard taco with ground beef, lettuce, and white cheese, as well as a cheese enchilada and beans. The ground beef in the taco didn't have much flavor of its own, so I added in some salsa. The enchilada had more flavor because of the sauce on top, and the beans were good (regular refried beans with some cheese on top). Overall, I was satisfied with everything. There wasn't a whole lot of flavor, but it's what I expected and the focus was on the cheese anyway :) All the prices at Salsa's are incredibly cheap, but you definitely can't beat the lunch specials. My boyfriend got the lunch fajitas, which he said were well-flavored and enough food to fill him up. I don't remember the exact price, but it's definitely under $10. The service was good - they were attentive without being annoying, and they got all our orders right. We also got regular refills on all our drinks. Overall, this was a good choice for our Christmas Eve Mexican food -- we all left satisfied! read more

Since I was in Leonardtown, I didn't want to travel far for some delicious Mexican food. Being from California and having Mexican food at just about every corner makes me spoiled. Salsa isn't overly authentic but it is so delicious. The prices are bomb. I got a lunch enchilada meal for $4! Add the chips and salsa, and you got yourself a delicious little meal under $5. Do I think it is better than the California, MD's Monterrey? Yes, I do. First time I went, got take out. Place was CROWDED for a Friday afternoon, however, I think it was because school was still out for summer. Went back again during the lunch hour for sit down service. The prices here are stupid. Stupid good. The food here is serviceable. It looks like Mexican, tastes adequately Mexican, but if you want you can still order a burger. The crab enchiladas I had were edible, but were definitely lacking something. My dining companion's shrimp burrito was better. The chips and salsa spread was good and was lacking the unexplainable white dip I've seen in other Maryland Mexican joints. The decorum is that kind of cozy you can only get from a multi-purpose strip mall outlet. You look around and say "Yeah, I could totally see this place as an optometrist office. A Mexican optometrist office. ¡Antiojos magnífico, Muchachos! The place was jam-packed on the Tuesday night I was in there. I'm not sure what the rush was, but the place is popular. Always great service here. This place is packed in the evenings, and on the weekends. So, if you're planning to dine there at those times, you may have to wait for a little bit; but, because they turn tables quickly, you shouldn't be waiting long. The Pollo Fiesta is my favorite dish. It's a massive portion, so be prepared to take some home or to share. I eat there regularly, and have done so for several years now. I can't recall EVER having a bad meal. I am perplexed as to the draw of this place. Outside of the hostess, everything else was subpar. Most of the food was barely okay. The Texas fajita was the only standout. Although, I've never had a fajita w/o cheese?! Don't order the wings...I think they are frozen Tysons wingettes. Our server was awful.... we were seated and given no utensils even after receiving food. This only happened to us and another family seated near us...I wonder why??? This is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant! You always get the same quality food when you come and I've been going for over 8 years and have had the same waiter multiple times. The food tastes amazing and is incredibly affordable. The service is super fast and there isn't much else I could say. 3 out of 5 stars--the menu choices are what I'd expect from a Mexican joint like this. The atmosphere is good, place appears clean, and doesn't leave you smelling like a kitchen after you leave. The one thing that could earn this place a higher rating would be to give the food an extra kick! I had the quesadilla verde and noted that the chicken lacked seasoning. Also, unlike other restaurants with similar cuisine there was not much in the way of peppers and onions served with the quesadilla. We've been eating here since moving to Maryland and while it by no means is authentic Mexican food (from San Diego I know good authentic Mexican food) it's good for a night when I don't feel like cooking. Food has always been decent nothing outrageous and I've never felt the need to review it because that would be like reviewing a McDonald's lol However that all changed tonight. We went for dinner had our usual fajitas but tonight as we ate a Filipino ukulele trio came to our table soliciting $$ for their Filipino children fund. It was the absolute most awkward thing ever! I'm not sure the table next to us realized it was donations because they had them play and song and when they went to collect the $ the people said "omg we don't have cash" they looked at each other totally perplexed as the wife quickly stammered "can we write you a check" O M G sooo odd. Standard Mexican menu with cheap prices. The hostesses look like they would rather run across the busy road, never smile, look annoyed, and just miserable looking. They could have smiled when we walked in. The chips are good, white sauce tastes like mayo, salsa is bland- I put a lot of salt and pepper in it to make it taste a little better. The service with getting chip refills- very slow. Service could be faster, waited 25 minutes after getting drinks before we got to order our meals. The meals came out amazingly fast but every one of them was wrong. Had to send back my quesadilla because they put chicken on it, I'm a vegetarian and they apologized and brought me a plain cheese one back out.
